This is my new favorite shifter series! SEXY. WOLFY. FLUFF.
It gets Dani's No Angst for Miles guarantee.
Jamie first meets his mate Chad when he's in wolf form. Chad rescues the big white dog from Animal Control, names him Murray, and decides to keep him. But soon enough, Chad realizes that Jamie, err, Murray is not your average dog.
So Chad isn't entirely shocked when he catches Murray peeing in the toilet, nor when Murray turns into a gorgeous blonde man. Who's naked. In Chad's bathroom.
There are two main plot lines here: Chad and Jamie figuring out how their claiming each other will affect Chad (there's surprisingly little info on human mates) and working together to try to find a man who doesn't want to be found.
Chad, as it turns out, is a private investigator, and, as those of you who read the first book will remember, Jamie wants to be a detective and is studying criminal justice.
Coincidence or FATE?
Chad and Jamie are totally made for each other. Jamie teases Chad about his penchant for all things 80s, but, hey, who doesn't love The Breakfast Club?
Of course, because this book is about WOLVES, or a human and a wolf shifter, things heat up quickly.
It's all insta LUST, followed closely by insta LOVE. But it works. Because MATES.
The steam level, while lower than in the first book, is still high, and the sweetness factor approximates that of a Starbucks Venti Caramel Frappuccino.
The HEA is totes sexy & feel good, and the epilogue sets up book 3 (I do wish there had at least been a mention of Jamie and Chad, seeing's how this is their story and all).
My minor complaint is that parts of the book, like the guys' loooong plane and train ride, dragged a bit. It was nice to see Tanner and Finley again though.
I do not recommend reading Patience as a standalone; Jamie plays a significant role in book 1, so you'll be missing a lot if you do.

Patience was an excellent addition to the Forbes Mates series and was even better than the first book in my opinion. Book two is based on a character we met in book 1- Jamie. Jamie was lonely and despaired he'd ever meet his destined mate. While he was stuck in his wolf form, he runs into his mate Chad.
What I loved:
*The beginning. It was perfection. It was funny, endearing, and utterly adorable. Talk about hooking you right from the start!
*Chad & Jamie. Adored them individually and as a couple. Great people who were meant to be together. Grace R Duncan made believe these two were intended to be together.
*Steam. Just like in book one- heat index was high in this one.
*Pace. For a majority of the book, it had a great, steady pace.
*The secondary cast of characters added to the plot without overtaking it which happened in the first book. I was stoked that she showed great balance between the protagonists and secondary characters.
*The story is told from a dual POV.
*This book also had a low angst, feel good vibe.
*The end was awesome! Had me smiling like a crazy person.
The book did lose some momentum after the half way point-, but it quickly gained back it's footing.
As far as this being book 2- do you have to read the first one? I guess you don't have to read the first book, but I'd recommend you do for the maximum enjoyment of this one.
I have to say I was impressed with this sequel. I saw growth in the author's writing, and it was just a fun, loving read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 4.5 Stars.

This book was written far better than the first one, and it was more enjoyable too. I love the excerpt of the next book that I got. Can't wait to read Miles's story... ^_^

When Jamie Ryan goes through a forced shift and cannot return to his human state, he's caught in the city with no real way to get out of sight. Just when he is about to be caught by animal control Jamie is saved by his destined mate, Chad Sutton. Chad's an ex police officer and current private investigator and he realizes that his new "dog" is more than meets the eye. Chad takes Jamie (dubbed "Murray" the dog) home with him and the two bond quickly.
Once Jamie is able to return to human he explains to Chad about destined mates. I love that Chad is so chill about the whole thing. He is just immediately on board and there isn't any teeth gnashing or putting it off because "werewolves" don't exist. Chad accepts the proof in front of his eyes and settles in to their relationship quickly.
It's hard for the two, because there aren't any records in the United States about having a human destined mate, so the two work together to solve the mysteries they need to in order to be together.
Side Note: Someone needs to find the Alpha Prime and kick him in the nuts. Seriously. In. The. Nuts.
Told in both men's POV, it does have a couple of points when the flow slows, but it eventually picks up pace soon enough. This is a sweet, low-angst series that's really enjoyable to immerse myself in. I like the world-building, the characters, and the hot sexy times.
I enjoyed this installment in the Forbes Mates series and look forward to more to come. I also liked that like in Devotion, the epilogue sets up the next couple in the series. I can't wait for that story!

The kiss was soft, slow, and said so much. Jamie let his worries and fears out, his budding feelings and fledgling dreams, putting all of it into the kiss and the care of his mate. The emotions he got back from Chad took his breath away.
When they broke apart, their eyes met, Chad’s wide. “Mate,” he whispered in awe.
Jamie swallowed and nodded, reaching up and cupping Chad’s face. “Mate.”
I enjoyed this installment in the Forbes Mates series and look forward to more to come. I also liked that like in Devotion, the epilogue sets up the next couple in the series. I can't wait for that story!

4 Wolfy-Fun Stars!
In book one of "The Forbes Mate Series" we met Jamie who was looking for his mate and recently moved across country to join Tanner's pack -- to find the home he never had. As we catch up with Jamie in this book he is on his way to the pack lands on a school break and has been suppressing his wolf for a while due to inability to shift at college. This has made his wolf unhappy to say the least and his is forced into a change in the city, during the middle of the day. He lays down to take a nap hoping his wolf will allow him to shift back after being wolfy for a while.. however, when he wakes up he sees something no animal in the city every wants to see. Animal Control! He also notices the best scent he has ever smelled.. and as he attempts to evade the dog catcher while looking for this scent he sees someone step out of a shop. Some quick thinking and hope on his part he runs up to the man hoping he will play along so he isn't taken into the pound.
Chad Sutton is surprised to see a beautiful tan wolf running down the street towards him as he walks out of a coffee shop, one morning. He "knows" however that he must protect this dog from the dog catcher who is chasing him. When asked, he states that it is his dog and he must have lost his collar again. Chad ends up with a ticket and a wolf - which he aptly names Murray. Chad quickly realizes that Murray is not a normal dog, as he sees him stealing bacon, drinking coffee and even using the toilet one morning. He knows something is up.. but he never imagined that Murray would turn into a gorgeous naked blonde man in his bathroom.
Once everything is on the table and everyone knows all the secrets about each other.. Jamie explains to Chad that he is his mate. Chad takes this extremely well - however the two must figure out if Jamie can claim Chad as wolves do with a bite or if his bite will be fatal to Chad.
The two end up traveling to Europe in search of answers and find out more than they bargained for about Chad.
Overall, this is a really fun book. I loved the characters and getting to see the characters from book one again was great. Ms. Duncan has written a great second book in her Forbes Mates series.. and I cannot wait to read book three!!

I was really looking forward to Jamie's story and it didn't dissapoint. I had a lot of fun reading this one ;)
We've met Jamie in the previous book and I instantly loved him ! Right now he's half living on campus and half living at Finley and Tanner's house. When he's out with some friends, he starts shifting unexpectedly. Being so close to the full moon, he gets stuck in his wolf form, which is not a good thing to be in in the city. He hides in an alley and the next morning he tries to figure out how to get out of his predicament. This is not an easy task however, because he gets spotted by animal control and has to run for his life (or balls hehe). When coming around a corner he's hit by a delicious scent and imagine his surprise, when he looks up into the eyes of his mate....his very human mate.
Chad is a former cop turned PI. When he sees the dog looking up at him, he knows right away, that this isn't an average dog. He does however know that he has to rescue him from animal control. Which is what he does. He takes the dog home and names him Murray ;) They get along really well, but Chad gets more and more suspicious, because Murray is showing very not dog like behavior.
Ofcourse Jamie isn't stuck as a wolf forever so after 4 days of being a wolfy, he shifts back into his human form...again right in front of his human mate Chad. Chad is very surprised...but he already knew something was up. He's also very attracted to Jamie.
Jamie explains everything about shifters and mates to Chad. They are both extremely drawn towards each other, but Jamie wants to give Chad some time to adjust...he is human after all and things don't usually go so fast for humans. Chad is perfectly fine with going fast, because he can feel their bond just as clearly as Jamie can. The only problem they are facing now id the claiming ritual. Jamie doesn't want to just claim Chad, because he doesn't know what his bite will do to Chad. Together they try to find out what the right way to procede is....
I really liked this one. Both the MC's were extremely like-able. There isn't any douchebaggery, like there was in the previous book from Tanner. Jamie does want to claim Chad, he just doesn't want to take any risk that will lead to Chad hurting or even dying. I also found this one pretty funny, especially the part were Jamie is stuck in his wolf form...laughed my ass off :)
It was a bit less steamy than the previous book, but there is still plenty of it to enjoy. I just wish that the steam wouldn't have lessened throughout the book. We go from very descriptive scenes, to a lot of fade to black....and I hate fade to black scenes.
A plus however....there is knotting !!
I think the part about them trveleing to Rome could have been a bit shorter...it got a little bit boring..We also get an intro into the next book, which is Miles's book, the redhead docter of the pack. His story should be interesting, since his destined mate is a jaguar...and I love feline shifters !! Can't wait to read that one, although I do hope that Miles gets a bit more sparky, because he seems a bit dull...
Anyway..4 stars from me, I liked it better than the first book !

I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried when I realized the original narrator for Devotion wasn't returning to voice Patience. But I needn't have worried because I am in love with the narration for this novel!
WOW. Chistopher Boucher's narration of Patience was phenomenal! He knocks this out of the park with great character voices, emotional nuance, fantastic pacing and timing, and a great flow. This was such an absolute pleasure to listen to.
I love the destined mate trope, and it's done so well here. There's a bit of the comedy in that when Jamie Ryan initially meets his destined mate, it's when he's literally stuck in his wolf form. Chad Sutton, to his credit, takes it all in stride, helps out a clearly not-just-a-dog, and winds up finding everything he ever wanted.
I love that Chad is so chill about the whole thing and is just immediately on board and there isn't any teeth gnashing or putting it off because "werewolves" don't exist. Chad accepts the proof in front of his eyes and settles in to their relationship quickly.
Told in a dual POV, this is a sweet and sexy series that's really enjoyable to immerse myself in. I like the world-building and the characters - but Chistopher Boucher definitely knocked this up a notch.
While Patience is my favorite book in the Forbes Mates series, I really enjoyed reading the whole series and I'm looking forward to revisiting the Forbes pack through the audiobooks.
I am desperately hoping Chistopher Boucher will return to narrate Acceptance - because his character voice for Quincy is awesome with that sexy purr!

What a sweet sweet story. I do love me some shifter novels and Patience does not disappoint! I cannot wait for Miles and Quincy to get their story.

Cute. Standard shifter romance, the romance itself is adorable and for the most part smooth sailing.
This is what I consider fluff-read, nothing substantial or moving. I won't remember this story in a couple of hours, but while I was reading it I was charmed and entertained.
I'm personally a lot more lenient for shifter-romances because ultimately I read them for that love-at-first-sight, insta-love, fated mate moment, the instinctual pull, the possessiveness, and of course the loved-knotting scene. The rest, I can forgive. There is an attempt at creating a mystery/PI element, but I found it... inconsequential. Overall, this was a relatively decent read.

This is my new favorite shifter series. I just love this pack of wolves and all of their shenanigans. This book shouldn’t be read as a standalone, though - I mean you will get the gist of the storyline, but I think you firstly need to read and/or listen to book one, "Devotion", to get the full impact of the wolf pack and the beginning of Jamie’s story, since we see him a decent amount in that book too. I really loved book one and didn’t think it could get any better than that, but with this book it definitely did, and I loved all parts of this story and how well it all came together.
It was really fun getting to know Jamie and Chad as characters and seeing their personalities come out. Not only did they have great chemistry but they were hilarious together as well. Jamie pretending to be a dog and Chad playing off of that - I was laughing at their antics for a large portion of this book. And we did get some insta-lust/love, but I think it was warranted since they were very obviously fated mates and they were bound to have a quick-forming bond together.
One part I thought was really interesting was the fact that the pack as a whole was as un-informed about their pasts as Jamie and Chad were, and about the entire “human mate” aspect. I really hope to see some more follow-up and conclusion to that in the next books, since they obviously have a lot to more to learn about their species. I was a little confused as we went through this book regarding the guy Chad was trying to find, but ended up happy with that aspect since we got a conclusion and more information and it led us perfectly into what we will obviously be seeing in book three. I really liked this book just as much, and maybe just a little bit more, than book one. I will be adding these to my re-read and re-listen list.
Audio – OK, first time listening to a book narrated by Christopher Boucher, but it will NOT be my last. He did such a great job. I was completely entertained by his voices for all of these characters. He really got into the roles and made them come to life, even when they were in wolf form and the characters were in Rome with their accents. I am really impressed with how well he did and really do look forward to hearing more from him. I will be keeping an eye out for more of his narrated books in the future.

Reading the description for 'Patience', book two in the 'Forbes Mates' series, and having thoroughly enjoyed the first installment, I was looking forward to Jamie's story. My appreciation for the author's sense of humor was confirmed when Jamie meets his mate, Chad, while in wolf form and running from animal control. I laughed out loud at the two of them in the pet store, and I knew I was going to enjoy reading about Jamie and his mate.

Holding back his wolf for too long at school is causing all sorts of issues for Jamie, such as involuntarily trying to go furry in the middle of a group of humans. He manages to get away from said group, only to be confronted with any stray’s worst enemy - animal control! He scents something amazing on the wind and discovers that he’s found his mate - only said mate is human, not shifter. Zoinks!
Chad is a former police officer turned private investigator, so he’s used to out of the norm situations, but being confronted with a very large dog who seems to understand his every word is definitely a new experience! Convincing the animal control officer that his newfound furry friend is actually an established furry friend, he takes the dog home, decides to call him Murray, and happily settles in. What a shock to see his dog disappear and a human crouching at his feet!
This story had so many hilarious aspects that I spent a great deal of time laughing out loud, something that this jaded reviewer doesn’t do a lot of anymore. The premise is fairly standard insofar as fated mates for shifters, but with a twist in that biting humans generally results in death, leaving the two men trying to find a way around this inconvenient fatal conundrum. Traveling across the globe to the wolf leaders is an adventure unto itself! Ever seen an intoxicated wolf on a plane? Wolf elders named Mario and Luigi? You’ll crack up – guaranteed!

Chad is a former police officer turned private investigator, so he’s used to out of the norm situations, but being confronted with a very large dog who seems to understand his every word is definitely a new experience! Convincing the animal control officer that his newfound furry friend is actually an established furry friend, he takes the dog home, decides to call him Murray, and happily settles in. What a shock to see his dog disappear and a human crouching at his feet!

This started out really strong. I loved how Jamie and Chad met and felt they were destined mates.
I was really hoping for some emotional MINE MINE MINE smexy times, but instead we got doubts and insecurity. Not about each other, but how to claim (bite) each other as mates because Chad is human.
These guys go off to Rome to research human mates and find out how to claim each other without Chad dying. And that’s where I lost interest. I am just not fond of a ‘let’s do research’ period in my books. And because that was the entire plot, I was a bit disappointed.
It’s still good, and it did pick up at the end, but the whole trip to Rome could have been left out for me.
I think I was hoping for more emotions. Jamie and Chad were so even tempered, it got somewhat boring.
This can be read as a stand-alone.

If you've read the first book in this series, you'll surely remember Jamie Ryan - he who befriended Finley when Tanner couldn't pull his head out of his ass, and was sort of vying to take Tanner's spot in Finley's heart, even though they weren't destined mates.
So, after Tanner and Finley got their HEA, Jamie feels kind of left in the dust and doesn't believe he will ever find his mate.
While in doggie form, and coincidentally trying to run from Animal Control, Jamie happens across Chad Sutton, ex-detective who's now a private investigator. His mate. Tongue lolling, he runs up to Chad and tries to convince his human to save him. Chad's no dummy - while he doesn't know that the dog he names Murray is not quite canine, he senses something and pretends the dog belongs to him.
I really liked how the author created their immediate connection, giving us a great visual of the human Chad interacting with this very smart dog Murray aka Jamie, who seems to understand every word he says. I giggled a lot during this part, especially at Jamie's thoughts.
And Chad has no idea that the smart doggie is actually a man - well, until he finds him naked and peeing one morning in the bathroom.
That scene was just precious.
Their relationship seemed strong from the start, and since Chad is trying to find a man who doesn't want to be found, and Jamie is studying Criminal Justice, the two team up as dog and master as Chad pursues all leads, all the while having wild monkey sex, because mates. Also, knotting. Which requires some explanations from Jamie, of course, but Chad doesn't seem to be fazed by anything he finds out about the dog that wasn't.
There are two actual plots that merge/converge - the plot line about finding Chad's assigned target, and the plot line about Jamie being afraid to deliver the mating bite to a human, because nobody in their pack history has done so, and there's nothing in the archives anywhere in the country that will tell them if Jamie has a chance to succeed.
So, the two embarge on a trip to Italy, where the wolves' most ancient pack lives, to find out more.
I really enjoyed this book very much - from the instalust to instalove, bc we're talking mates here, the knotting, their easy banter, Jamie ribbing Chad about his strong affection for all things 80s, the trip to Italy, finding out that the grand Poobah wolf in the USA isn't as honest as expected (and I sure hope that'll be addressed in a future book), the actual mating (because HEA, y'all), and even the setup for the next book in the series - it was all very well done, and kept me interested from start to finish.
I don't recommend reading this book by itself. With as much screen time as Jamie gets in the first one, it would be better to start there. And you're in luck since both books are now available - read them one after the other for full impact.
Absolutely worth your time. Hot, sexy, fluffy shifter romances are so much fun, right?

Not bad but not nearly as interesting or as hot as the first installment. The middle dragged on and on. Ever been on a really long bus ride? Exactly. The love story was like a nice 'baby' Swiss. I love that cheese. Anyway, I'll give the next installment a go. We're talking a wolf and a panther. Lots of kicks I hope.

Here’s the review no one asked for but I’m writing anyways.
In this book we have Jamie and Chad.
We previously met Jamie in Book 1, when he adamantly wanted to be Fin’s mate, they did some touchin’, kissing and jerkin’ but ultimately Fin wanted to be with Tanner. It was a whole mess, if you like mess that no one really finds messy and they all wanna hug and live together go read the first book!
So since Jamie couldn’t have Fin they tried to set him up with Miles, who he doesn’t have a spark with but they turn into fuck buddies, occasionally fucking. Miles is going to be one of the MCs for book 3, I’m convinced this author likes to link characters by having them be physically intimate it’s not enough that Miles was already important in book 1 because he’s a doctor and was present in a decent part of book 2 also for his doctorness. 🤷🏻♀️
I guess these things have happened to cause the brief sparks of jealousy through the bonds but it never feels like real jealousy, it’s just mentioned and glazed over.

I wanted to like this book even tho I wasn’t a big fan of Jamie in the first. I actually had a smile on my face for most of the beginning. I really liked seeing Chad and Jamie interact while Jamie was in wolf form, it was fun and silly.
It got weird for me at the mention of “wolfy” boner.

Chad was a bit too perfect
He was very accepting, he was very on-board with being mates, he was always reassuring Jamie.
It was actually a nice change to read about the human feeling the bond as well as the shifter and I liked that Chad was immediately on board to be with Jamie- this isn’t a book where I’m expecting realistic situations. I have a soft spot for sweet and tender characters and that was definitely what Chad was, always wanting to touch and care for his mate, it was adorably sweet. I’m sure others might find it too sweet but I loved Chad. 🥺
Now we’re on to Jamie. He was jealous of the bond that Tanner and Fin had, he wanted his own mate. He was worried Chad wouldn’t want/accept him when he found out he was a shifter. Totally normal to be worried about.
But then we have Jamie using his past with Fin as the base of his fear of rejection + having to leave his family cos they didn’t accept that he was gay but it was mainly the Fin thing. I don’t know if this was the route the author chose because they wanted to tie the books together or maybe entice the reader to also read the first if they chose to start with the second book but I personally found it ridiculous. Fin very clearly told Jamie about his FATED mate, Tanner and Jamie still chose to pursue Fin. Even when Tanner showed up for Fin he was still holding out hope that Fin would choose him over his FATED MATE? That he has known for 2+ years while he and Fin knew each other for what, one/two weeks? What???
Jamie you put yourself into that situation 🙄
We also learn in this book that sharing bodily fluids is correlated to the bond. So how come Tanner and Fin’s bond wasn’t completely severed in book 1 when Fin released his cum on Jamie and Jamie used Fin’s cum to get himself off ? Was it because Fin and Tanner’s bond wasn’t solidified ? Doesn’t that just mean that there was an even bigger risk to breaking the bond because of what they did ? Regardless if they didn’t touch each other’s dick it was a lot of fluids. Or was it cos Jamie’s release didn’t touch Fin? That sounds like a loop hole 🤔

Jamie is in constant need of reassurance and it got pretty annoying with Chad having to be the one to reassure him instead of him just trying to show how good they could be together. There were times it seemed like Jamie was really willing to push Chad away but Chad always held firm. We even get a little bit of comparison about how Jamie was thinking about holding back like Tanner did with Fin.
Did I mention that Jamie now lives with Tanner and Fin ? At least now that it’s been some years it’s more believable that Fin and him are best friends, I guess.
Ok cool cool.
We get some stuff about Panther (obv another MC on it’s way)
I liked that Chad and Jamie would be able to work together just not a fan of how easy it came together - this was a pretty long story where despite the length I still think that things were very simplistic but it’s ok, it’s supposed to be light-hearted and fun. I REALLY liked the idea of the human PI with his wolf side kick. I wish we got some more of that.

I like endearments. I even really like the “baby”endearment but even for me, as someone who likes it, I think it was used too much. 🙈 AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON JAMIE CALLING CHAD “PUP”.
After that started Chad no longer had a name, he was always referred to as “Pup” from Jamie. EVEN WHEN SHARING ILYs. It was awful, I was so sick of it I wanted to throw my kindle out the window. 😤
In conclusion, I really liked Chad and Jamie was just okay. I liked it enough to keep reading the series, I’m too deep to give up now, it just goes to show that if the writing is decent and the story has time spent with established couples it’s enough to keep me on the hook. ~

Jamie Ryan is out for a night of fun and drinks with some of his college buddies when his wolf decides he wants to come out a play. He barely makes it to a dark alley before the shift takes hold. Not only does he have to leave his phone, wallet and keys in the dumpster and pray they are still there when he can return as a human; but now he's being chased down by animal control. It comes as quite a shock to Jamie when the person he runs into that helps him evade being caught by animal control is his mate, and he is human. Jamie never thought he would find a mate; they are rare among same sex couples. Even more so is a destined mate, but that is what Chad is, Jamie can feel it.
Chad Sutton is a former cop turned Private Eye. He has seen a lot of things in his line of work that some people would question. He realizes from the start that there is something about the dog that ran to him for safety that doesn't add up. The animal is too smart, and Chad could swear that Murray, this is what he names his pup, is answering his questions with head nods, gestures and huffing and puffing. After Murray spends a couple of days with Chad, then shifts into Jamie right in front of him, Chad is more curious than shocked.
Everything happens fast, but it’s a steady progression. That, and the fact that this is a Shifter story where Mates are most times decided by the fates, so my usual disdain for insta-love stories never questioned this book. As I said, there is a steady progression in a short amount of time. Chad learns Murray is actually Jamie and a shifter and they are destined mates. The attraction is mutual and the chemistry is evident from the start. The problem these two will have to face is not attraction or chemistry, its physiology. There are no known cases of human mates; furthermore, the wolves of Forbes pack are of the belief that Jamie’s bite could actually kill Chad. Jamie and Chad travel across the globe to a more ancient group of wolves to try and learn more about their mating and if it is even possible for Jamie to claim his lover.
I am a lover of paranormal romance, especially when the Author can take the story and add enough reality to it to make me think it’s plausible. Jamie as Murray almost had me in stitches with the way he would nod for yes, shake his head for no, the tail wag thing and licking Chad’s face when he was excited. Then there was the bond they shared and how they could sense each other. There were some questions they wanted answered and limits they wanted to push that weren’t elaborated on in this book, I’m hoping that is explained more in the next book. There was a bit of angst that was borderline too much for me, but it was also somewhat understandable with the fast progression of their relationship, so I’ll overlook it.
Overall I really enjoyed this read. There was just a bit of drama and uncertainty, with a whole lot of passion and even some romance. If you like Shifter stories, paranormal romance, intense connections between your MC’s and a well written story with visible world building, then you should definitely consider this series. Start at the beginning though, my opinion is they should be read in order.

My first Audiobook with this narrator and I really enjoyed the story. Each character got their own unique voice and his tones and inflections were spot on. I liked the way he put emotion into his voice when it was called for in the story, truly bringing the story to life.

Poor Jamie is so stressed because of finals that he is forced through his shift earlier than expected and completely unprepared. Stuck in a city and away from safety, he's unable to shift back, and knows it will be days before he'll be back to walking on 2 legs again.
Life is about to get more complicated for him when he's running from the dog catcher in broad daylight, only to run smack dab into his mate. Jamie has always been doubtful that he'd find his destined mate. Odds stacked against him, he's more than surprised when he accidently runs into his Mate on the street.
First things first, he'll have to get the dog catcher off his back. Luckily for him, his mate is a quick thinker, and able to save Jamie from the dog pound, just in the nick of time.
Chad wasn't expecting to bring home a new dog when he went out for coffee, but it looks like he has one now. He can't put his finger on it, but he knows there's more than meets the eye when it comes to "Murray"/Jamie. This dog is way too intelligent, and there is nothing normal about a coffee-drinking dog, who answers his questions by nodding yes or no.
His suspicions are confirmed when one moment he's watching Murray use his toilet (neat trick) and the next there's a gorgeous man in Murray's place.
Now there's talk of Mates and shifters; all of which Chad takes in with calm acceptance. He doesn't know what's going on between Jamie and himself, but he feels the attraction and knows he doesn't want to give it up.

Chad wasn't expecting to bring home a new dog when he went out for coffee, but it looks like he has one now. He can't put his finger on it, but he knows there's more than meets the eye when it comes to "Murray"/Jamie. This dog is way too intelligent, and there is nothing normal about a coffee-drinking dog, who answers his questions by nodding yes or no.
His suspicions are confirmed when one moment he's watching Murray use his toilet (neat trick) and the next there's a gorgeous man in Murray's place.
Now there's talk of Mates and shifters; all of which Chad takes in with calm acceptance. He doesn't know what's going on between Jamie and himself, but he feels the attraction and knows he doesn't want to give it up.

We met Jamie in book one (not required to read, but highly recommended as it explains a lot and gives a much better background on Jamie.) Jamie was a short time love interest but never a fated mate. When Jamie ends up stuck in wolf form one night, he meets his actual fated mate, Chad, a human.
There are a lot of hurdles for these guys to jump: Jamie introducing himself as a human, Chad learning about shifters, both men concerned what happens when a shifter bites his human mate, travelling to find out more information, why the North American shifter leadership is hiding information, and more…
In the end, we get an absolutely amazing story that was as good as or better than book one!

I loved book one and this is a fantastic sequel!
From start to finish I was captivated by this story. Jamie and Chad are so adorable as a couple! Chad is easy going in a way that is totally believable. Jamie and Chad’s time together when Jamie was a wolf was hysterical and sweet. Then, while working out the kinks of their relationship Chad never let Jamie down. They are essentially together as a forever couple from the very first moment they meet and I LOVE THAT!
(Chad names the “dog” version of Jamie “Murray” after the dog in Mad About You – which I loved!)
Using the "shifted" side for crime solving is brilliant and I really hope we see more of that in future books.
The time spent in Italy was well done. It had moments of humor, sexiness, more back-story, and some local color. I really liked how the deities were brought in to fill out the origin story more for us.
It was great seeing Tanner and Finley again – the whole family/pack thing is a nice continuation of the story.
This is a book about these two building their relationship. There are a couple very small “mysteries” built in, but most of the page time is devoted to these guys and their relationship. I love that! It was intriguing from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down. I am absolutely in love with this series and I can’t wait for more and hope it comes to audio – Nick J Russo would be an excellent choice for this – hint hint!

Well - Nick didn't narrate this but Christopher Boucher totally NAILED this! He did SUCH a great job! I loved the accents, the growly voice he chose for Chad, the Italians, the females... all of them! He also really did a great job with the emotions as well as the humor and smexy times! This is a fun new shifter story. College student Jamie meets his mate Chad when he’s trapped in wolf form for the full moon. After Chad rescues him from Animal Control and invites him home as a new pet dog, the whole situation becomes a little bit awkward.
This is a cute, sweet romance. Chad and Jamie are fated mates, but Chad’s humanity prevents the relationship progressing easily. I enjoyed the chemistry between the man and his dog and I enjoyed the relationship between Chad and Jamie.
When they men first meet as wolf and man, the writer explores both perspectives with a wicked sense of humour. Jamie’s packmates and Chad’s mother add warmth and a sense of community to the story. Chad’s role as a private investigator and the mystery of a human fated mate both add mystery and conflict to an otherwise simple story.
I know that this is a little bit too fluffy and the shifter world-building is a little bit too conventional, but for readers fancying a sweet, gentle romance with a good sense of humour and a little bit of heat, this is a great little story.

Oh man, I had been waiting for Jamie's story and I'm glad I finally read it.
In book two of the "Forbes Mates" series, we have Jamie from book one. The poor boy who I thought was treated pretty poorly, totally used. So of course I was cheering for him to get his own mate, which he got in Chad Sutton, who is a detective.
I actually really liked this pairing. I thought that it would be the human, Chad, who would hesitate to mate with a wolf, but most of the hesitancy came from Jamie. He didn't want to get hurt again and Chad was taking him being a wolf very...um, smoothly. Unbelievable actually, but hey, it worked for me. I adored Chad, I adored jamie, I adore this book. lol

I really like this series and the world Duncan has created. Jamie is stuck in his wolf form when he meets his mate Chad who is a human. The few days of Jamie being a dog (Murray) is really cute and enduring. I would have expected at least a minor freak out when Jamie goes from being a "dog" to a hot naked man. It doesn't phase Chad. He is even more clam when he finds out that he and Jamie are destined mates.
Duncan's world building kicks in that this point. She builds a government type structure and much like our own it doesn't always work. Chad is a human - what happens when Jamie claims him? Will the bite kill him? The local official is old and uninterested in offering help. They must travel to Rome for answers. Duncan incorporates an ancient religion complete will century old books. However, the book at its heart is about Chad, Jamie and what they go through to be together. The relationship with Chad and Jamie is hot and emotionally fulfilling.

The only time insta love/lust works for me is in shifter books. It's the animalistic quality it brings. This is book two in Grace's Forbes Mates series. (you should read them in order in my opinion) I actually loved this book even more than the first one. So, we have Jaime who pretty much keeps his inner animal stagnant for so long that it takes control and he basically bursts. Jamie turns into Murray (his wolf/dog) and that is how Chad finds him. To Chad Jamie is Murray and I absolutely adored Murray's antics. The two of them were absolutely hilarious! I thought how Jamie/Murray finds his mate (Chad) was written perfectly. It is so very clever how these two come to be.
There's comedy, fluff, and even some angst in here. But it's just the right amount of everything and it worked very well with the story.

This was a really good book, and I am glad I read the second installment of Forbes Mates. Chad was just awesome, and I thought Jamie and Chad was a really nice pair.
The humor was more present in this book, compared to the first. Also there was more 'action'. This was not merely a story of the mating between Chad and Jamie, there was also a 'mystery', and a trip overseas, that explained the 'universe' Forbes Mates is set in, better.
I loved the characters, and the friendship. And even though it is insta-lust/love (it is a shifter story :-) ) it worked well. The first 20% was FREAKING AWESOME!
Yeah, I will definitely read the next one, and this one will probably be read again.

I've been on a binge with the Mates trope. Especially the gay-werewolf kind and this book is the longest and one of the cutest so far. also the funniest. it was just so awwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!
but I don't think I could've gone from thinking of someone as a pet to thinking of them as a love interrest...no matter how hot.
these authors tend to use being mates as an excuse for poor relationship-building and istg it gets old real fast. the damn insta-love...
I mean how do you fall in love with someone within fourteen hours and how do you decide that you like a dog's personality enough to determine they would be a good life partner?

Nice shifter story of Jamie and his newly discovered human destined mate. I liked this but I am afraid the visit to headquarters in Italy and the change to Wolf were a little too reminiscent of Twighlight ..
oh and the gun thing.. please authors stop it.. a private citizen cannot just bring a gun into the UK on a commercial flight!!

Jamie Ryan literally runs into the man of his dreams. Jamie has shifted to his wolf form earlier than he expected, and while it’s rare, it’s dangerous in the city where humans may see. It’s also dangerous for the wolf when authorities spot him—authorities in the form of the local animal control officer. In his effort to creep away from the man with the long, looped pole, he’s gobsmacked by the scent of the human he meets.
Chad Sutton is a darn good detective—a former cop and now PI—and he reacts quickly to help the dog when his instincts tell him he needs to save the poor guy. Little did he know his wolfie-looking dog is a cute young man who happens to be a shifter. Chad doesn’t react poorly when confronted with the evidence as Jamie shifts to human. In fact, he’s quite accepting of everything Jamie tells him—including the fact that he’s Jamie’s mate.
The two get along very well immediately and Chad is totally accepting of the concept of a mate and the fact that it’s a man. The main thrust of the story is whether or not a mate bite will harm or kill Chad. Together, they research whatever they can find out from pack leaders, past and present, and ultimately the headquarters in Rome. Though Chad immediately emotionally accepted Jamie as his mate, whether or not he can handle the physical bite is something Jamie worries about. Actually, I found it odd that he easily accepted not only Jamie’s bond with him but he adapted to man-on-man sex quite easily. There was a bit of an explanation later in the story but for a man who never considered either a mate or sex with a man, this was a bit difficult to accept. And add to that the fact that Chad’s mother was also totally accepting and even enthusiastic, that segment of the audiobook required a stretch of the imagination until the author later explained his mother’s background.
Without going into further detail, I’ll simply say that this is one of those stories without a lot of outside conflict—inner turmoil? yes—outer conflict?—no. It’s a sweet tale and a smooth ride to love for these men. Christopher Boucher did a great job with the variety of voices and gave both Jamie and Chad distinct voices so it was easy to follow on audio.
This can be read as a standalone, even though a few characters from book one return in cameo roles. Their presence is fully explained, making it easy to follow on its own.
