Rick Gualtieri loves to write adventure, mayhem, and snarky dialogue. His bestselling Tome of Bill series combines all of this into a world of supernatural danger with hard-hitting action and plenty of sharp-tongued geeky humor.
Rick lives alone in a dark, evil place called New Jersey with only his wife, three kids, and countless pets to both keep him company and constantly plot against him. When he's not busy monkey-clicking out words, he can typically be found jealously guarding his collection of vintage Transformers from all who would seek to defile them.
EVERYDAY HORRORS is the second novel of the Bill of the Dead series, sequel to the extraordinarily funny and entertaining TOME OF BILL series. Bill is a obnoxious geek who has been turned into a vampire. Twice.
While he's slightly matured given his steady relationship with a witch, semi-adopted child, and owning his own building--he's recently brought back magic into the world. Having epically screwed up by doing so, he's trying to rebuild the vampire race's structure to keep them under control and turn them all into vegetarians (in the vampire sense). Unfortunately, his ex-girlfriend is now possessed by his dead best friend and he has a new romantic rival in a handsome wizard.
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more Bill Ryder books. He's always entertaining and while I'd like to see him hook up with different characters, I'm enjoying his current relationship. I'm a fan of the fact Sally has returned and while I hope she becomes a vampire again, I was entertained by the developments throughout this book. I also like new characters Char, the new vamps, and meeting some of Tom's family.
Fans of the previous books will love this and those who haven't read them? Well, you'll probably be totally lost but that's why you should read the originals.
What more can be said then Rick’s characters are a refreshing change of pace from the everyday banality found in most books. Bill’s sarcasm and constant diatribe of inner dialogue keeps you wondering, “why did I buy this book? More to the point, why can’t I put the damn thing down”! Love ya Bill! Rick, thanks for keeping them coming!
Well, I won’t lie to you. A small part of me is angry with Rick Gualtieri for this book. No, I’m not angry with how it turned out, the characters, plot etc. What I’m annoyed with is that it offers so many questions yet so few answers. Don’t get me wrong. I'm sure the author was tempted to sprinkle some in here and there but, in the end, it seems that the pacing of the story was really what kept it from happening. And it was easy to see that along the way, certain plot points really needed - nay, deserved - the details they received.
OK, in the words of Tom-Sheila, The Icon With The Power of Ninja Turtles Action Figures at his-her beck and call: that was kind of a d*ck move. You see, I literally copied - albeit with some subject or verbage changes included - that entire first paragraph from the author's "note" that awaits you at the end of "Everyday Horrors", his 2nd in the "Bill of The Dead" series… which may or may not end after the upcoming third book. Safe to say, I am not betting the rent money on either possibility, that's for sure (you know, if 3 is it or we're going to get one of those George Lucas like "see you in 15 years for the rest, y'all")! My sincere uneasiness about the projected length of this series arises from the simple (?) fact that Gualtieri did indeed bring up A LOT of new mysteries in this story, that were only added to the ones not yet disemboweled or otherwise scooched off to the side in the first chapter.
I won't say I wanted more in this book as a criticsm of the author, though I will confess that I did indeed want more because so much was happening and quite frankly I'm a greedy little (?) fuck. So sue me (I'm poor, so go ahead, let me know how it works out for you). But having to hang on and actually patiently wait to LEARN some stuff along the way is a skill that is rusty at best for me. Ah, instant gratification, thank the nether gods you didn't exist when I was in college! It's just there are so many awesome and delicious fantasy bits flying by in this story. I wanted to yell TIME OUT several times along the way in order to have some of them worked out to a degree of satisfaction and closure. But nope, not even at the Kumbaya meeting of the new Coven Kids ("don't worry boys and girls, Sally will only kill SOME of you…") do we find out much more than, yes, the scheisse that's been building up like a backed up sewage pipe in a rent-controlled Bronx apartment is about to blow. And no one will be spared its splattery goodness when that happens!
Yet oddly enough, I so want to be there when it does! And that's what makes this particular middle child so deserving of all the accolades you can throw at it, even if some will no doubt hit like a wrench at a dodgeball training session. Gualtieri's writing style, sense of drama, appropriate timing of excellent cursing and insults as well as the best references to modern culture that you'll find anywhere remain right on target! Heck, you have to appreciate even his chapter titles which will give your bulging mid-section a good shake what with all that guffawing you'll be doing. I love it all in a totally non-creepy but yeah still a little kind of way!
Onward and, um, clickward (?) it is then, Book 3 starts bright and early tomorrow! Watch out kids, things are gettin' wild craaaazy up in here! Woo woo with your bad selves! Ye gods, no wonder I identify with a nerd as our hero...
It really shouldn’t be possible for things to get stranger than the first series of Bill the Vampire books. As we know, if you speak your fear, the fear appears then tries to kill Bill Ryder aka The Freewill vampire.
Reading about how Bill and his friends discover their powers was like watching a fiery train wreck as it flies off the track and into the woods. You just can’t look away, no matter how bad it gets because you know it’s only going to be worse the longer you stare at it as you drive into a ditch. Bill is so gifted in his inability to be a competent hero that his stories are addictive.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention how un-PC the humor is. If you’re sensitive to adolescent humor and genitalia jokes this book is NOT for you. Reading this book transported me to the 1980’s where, “That’s what she said,” jokes were in their heyday. I think. Maybe? Who knows really. I’ll have to go on my own private quest to find out its origin story.
That being said, I’m ready for book three. I know my life is not that bad because Bill’s is so much worse.
I’ve read so many other books until I came back to this & to be honest I was getting a little fed up with all the talk, pointless banter & and he story not going anywhere.
Then towards the end it picks up well with a great ending !?!!
I’m sorry but after all he’s been through Bill still shouldn’t be that much of a idiot vampire? Why didn’t he bite the bloody (SPOILERS) werewolves?
Now to see a Star Wars esk return of the Traveller though.
I will continue the series, but not until I run out of other things to read!
With this book we get some answers at the beginning some many questions that feel like there is another story going on behind the background the main characters aren't aware of and more interactions with new characters that's give me spice to the story is Bill in his group try to figure out what the heck is going on with the world and all the new monsters that is showing up while trying to find out where they're missing friend add disappeared to.
Absolutely loved this book, one of my top reads. Though I'm a bit annoyed at Tom, he seems to have gotten dumber and more immature as the books went on. Sure he was an idiot in the beginning but it seems to me he's gone done hill mentally. But I can forgive him his idioticy in lue of comic relief as he tries to figure out a women's body, the first period scene was absolutely golden as a laughed so hard it brought me to tears. Looking forward to the next book.

Bill's back and he's a vampire again! Bill is try to survive life (or un-death) the best he can. Most of the old gang is present and accounted for and there are new characters as well. Some are fulfilling new roles. There are new adventures and screw ups a plenty, hand on because it's going to be a bumpy ride. That really shouldn't be a surprise.
Another great story that brings me back to this world
No spoilers. I love being back in the world of Bill. But it’s great that it’s not the same and we are getting a lot of new things brought into the world to give us a fresh take on characters I love. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Awesome book! If you are a series reader from Tome of Bill you will definitely enjoy this. Rick continues to surprise with his vast imagination for creatures of pure fantasy! Can't wait for the next book to come out! This book picked up right where the last left off and was hard to put down.
𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑯𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒓𝒔, Bill of the Dead, Book #2 by Rick Gualtieri
Another great adventure with Bill Ryder and his eclectic group of friends. Solid plot, good pacing, stellar editing and proofing, characters that long-time readers have grown to love and new readers can easily relate to, plus a nice, solid ending that still manages to leave the door wide open for whatever comes next.
Other than leaving me with more questions than answers, and wanting to smack Bill (as usual), this was a fun read. I can't wait for book 3 to see where this takes our merry band of bad asses.
Can't wait for the next installment, this one left me hungry for more. If I say more I might start spoiling others but I recommend it to those who love Rick's work. He is getting better and better at telling Bill's story and surprisingly Bill is learning, who knew.
It was fun for the most part. After a while the foul mouthed dialog for a bit old. I did enjoy seeing Bill get curb stomped numerous times. A good time for all.
Bill and the gang are back (mostly). In true Bill style, there's lots of action and idiocracy. Tons of sarcastic humor and truly messed up scenarios leave you laughing. The strange days keep coming and I couldn't be happier.
Love it the old gang back together in strange ways I love the forthright humour and banter of these characters but can't help hoping turf returns😂😂 going back to book 1
