Ward Gibson had spent his entire life living by a certain code. Growing up in a motorcycle club, with a stint in the military, he had always taken the responsibility of protecting others seriously.
There had always been one weakness for him, though, in the form of a vibrant, beautiful redhead - Leah. As the new president of the Rebel Aces, the entire world is now on his shoulders. When old threats resurface, Ward will do everything in his power to protect and keep safe those he loves.
Leah Martinez’s entire life was turned upside down when tragedy struck during her teenage years. To her, life could end at any time, and she vowed to cherish every single moment.
Twelve years later, the peace she and her siblings had found becomes threatened again. With those she considered family being in the line of fire, including the man she loved.
Together, Ward and Leah embark on a chaotic journey in order to protect those they valued and loved. Bonds will be tied. Loyalty will be stretched. Family will be strengthened. But will it be enough? Can sheer determination and control keep the demons at bay for both of them and the club before it all is yanked from their grasp, including their love?
DISCLAIMER: This book is 18+ and does contain sexual situations, strong language, and violence.
This is the first book in the Rebel Aces series, and it is NOT standalone and does have a mild cliffhanger. No cheating, couples do have a HEA - the overarching plot of the series continues on into the next novel.
K.D. Latronico may be brand new to the romance world, but she’s been writing her entire life. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, by way of Long Island, New York, K.D. is the office manager for her father’s plumbing company, where she’s been working for the last decade and is helped by her family cat, Molly. Family and friends are very important to her, and she lives with her boyfriend and their cat, Zee. A pro-wrestling and Harry Potter enthusiast, she’s also submerged herself into the world of contemporary romance, which has completely reignited her love for reading.
This started out pretty good. But... there are some things that annoy me to tears in a first person, present tense narrative, like when a character describes something they DIDN'T notice. How are you telling us about it if you didn't notice it? This happened a couple of times in this book. Why write in first person if you're going to offer details the narrator doesn't witness? It's especially irksome when the present and past become interchangeable, so the narrator doesn't notice it NOW but will LATER. Oh, so they can see into the future? Or did the author inform them this will happen later? Either this is happening now- in the present- or they are telling this story after the fact. It can't be both!
There was also some really weird phrasing and wording in this book, like:
"the flames were being distinguished by the fire department" (flames are EX-tinguished),
AND: "lower your weapons and we'll lower ours first" (huh?),
AND: "this entire situation alone was a mess" (using the word 'alone' would signify a small aspect of the situation was bad enough, but the entire thing was just too much),
AND: "it would halt to a stop" (halt means stop, making this sentence, "it would stop to a stop"?)
AND: when Crow says, "You think I still don't know what's going on in my club?" (it should have read, "You think I don't still know what's going on in my club?" The placement of that word changes the meaning of the sentence.)
All of this weirdness interrupted the flow of the book and was distracting.
I also found it strange that Ward's whole 'I can't claim Leah as my woman, because it will put her in danger' thing was resolved less than a third of the way through the book, without too much convincing from Leah. That made it seem like the decision to distance himself in the first place was just some arbitrary choice he made and that he never really put a lot of thought into it. Specially since he changes his mind when bad things are actually heating up and the danger is a real possibility! How does that make sense?
After that, the book just felt like it focused mainly on establishing interest in the stories of the side characters for future books in the series.
I wanted to love it. I wanted to gush over this great debut novel from a new author like so many others did, but the longer I read, and even though I feel it had some serious potential, in my opinion, this needed a bit more thought and better editing to make it worthy of all the acclaim.
I have never read an Mc or any romance for that matter that the hero and heroine didn’t make mistakes . They always have misunderstandings or cheat, or resist one another past the point of annoyance . This is the fist book that I’ve read by their author and she has done it . She has written the perfect romance . There is drama and conflict but none of it is caused by the hero or heroine . Neither wavier in their love for one another and it was just perfect . Ward was perfect and worshipped Leah . Leah was made to be an MC presidents old lady . I have never read a perfect couple like this . It was so refreshing . This ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read part 2 .
Leah and Ward were destined to be together and she fought for it. Leah is a strong but sassy individual with a strong sense of self. She knows what she wants and fights for it. Ward is an Alpha that tries to protect everyone by not getting to close until he finally let's Leah in. They are great together and can't wait to get more of their story along with the rest of the MC.
First book by this author. First in a series, so there is a cliff hanger with Lana. Which is a lead in to Lana and Jokers story that is suppose to be the next book. A great start in this genre. Plot is cohesive and flows smoothly. Characters are well rounded. Did notice some minor editing, that needs to be addressed. In all, this is an author I am curious to see what she brings to us in the next book.
What a great start to this series. If you like strong and feisty woman, this defiantly got them. Leah's family goes threw tragedy at a young age. Ward's family take them in. Ward tries to fight his feelings for Leah. But he needs a strong woman to stand next to him in time of war. She makes the perfect old lady. I can't wait to read more.
This world is full of gritty alpha males and strong opinionated females fighting for the life they want to live. There are dangers around every corner even when you think that you are doing everything you can to keep your family safe. Looking forward to reading the second book. This is a MUST READ if you like Alpha MC romance!
I absolutely loved this book. I love the love that Leah and Ward have. I had to laugh when Ward was trying not to be with Leah. The story was awesome. Define Katy can’t wait to find out what happens
I loved this book and I usually don't get this into really dark books. But I loved this one. There was just enough vibrance a light to make it wonderful.
If you know me, you know I can read a book in a solid day if I get into it. This book hooked me from the start and had me plowing through up until about 50 pages left. I struggled to finish, but the story of these two is capturing! Definitely need to read about Lana and Joker next!
For a first book in a series this was done well. It's a great read with a really good storyline. Ward and Leah will take you for a ride with their story. A page turner with action, suspense and so much more.
3 stars at the very most. While reading, at 18%, at 45% I am dragging trying to stay into the story. It’s slow and a lot of in the head talking which I am not a fan of. The sex was long and drawn out with a lot of head talk so it was hard to get into those scenes. At 50% it starts to pick up a little with threats against Leah’s family and the MC, they go on lockdown but it didn’t get better, it was a really slow read with a lot of skipping pages, just skimming. At pg 195 my kindle words turned to a dull cream color and made it hard to read! Thankfully on pg 201, the print went back to normal! This book took me a bit because it just didn’t keep me interested. Too much talking to themselves, the story was bland except for the last few chapters which were better because there was a little action going on but I wouldn’t read this book again and more than likely won’t finish this series
This author needs an editor, but for a debut novel? This is pretty hard-hitting. Leah and Ward have danced around each other for years and just when they finally get together, everything else starts to fall apart. While I wasn’t sure if their story would hold my interest at first, I found myself unable to put the book down by the second half. There’s so much going on (that manages to not feel totally chaotic and “all but the kitchen sink” because the foundation for the next story (or stories, I hope) had to be laid) that I was upset when I hit the end. Now I have to wait to see what comes next.
What a debut novel!! I saw this on FB and one clicked straight away! The chemistry between Ward and Leah is pure fire and reading their back story that is weaved through the beginning of this, broke my heart. Ward has worked so hard to keep Leah at arms length, to keep her safe that he risks missing out on a beautiful thing. When the past comes calling though, all bets are off, life is too short and he is grabbing it with both hands, whilst doing his very best to keep Leah right where she belongs. With him. This book had me gripped from the start and I loved meeting the brothers of the MC. That ending though?!!!!
I just saw this on Instagram and thought to give it a try since I love MC books. You definitely will love this. The drama and the characters are wonderful. I love how there was so much going on but not enough where I couldnt keep up (if that makes sense?) There are plenty of storylines to lead off of with this book and I can't wait to read the next book. I loved Joker and cannot wait to see what happens next!!
I normally don't read MC romance, but Ward and Leah story got hold of me from the beginning. It's sexy, keeps you engaged and you can't put the book down. I feel like I got to know all the characters and felt what they were feeling. Please, please I need Lana and Joker story asap.
Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the authors writing but you could tell it's her first time publishing. It could do with another edit,a few errors throughout but nothing that detracts from the story. Really looking forward to learning more about the characters and club.
Really enjoyed this book. It was a page turner and the main characters had great chemistry. I’m waiting not very patiently for the sequel. It will hit my kindle the minute it’s released.
Ward and Leah got my attention from the first line. They have an attraction for each other for years and when Ward finally pulls his head from his a** they finally have their ever after. I like they way you get their back story als in the book.
I really enjoyed this first of a series. Great characters, great chemistry and for a first book it's pretty darn good. Can't wait to see how this series progresses.
