Short, sweet, and to the point. Read it in 2 sittings and left me glad and… recentered? Definitely worth the read.

The one caveat is that it’s as reformed and Protestant as you’d expect. Some would benefit from supplementing this with a sample of NT Wright or something a little Eastern Orthodox or something. This book is meat and potatoes for sure, just don’t forget your side salads.

The True Gospel

I've heard the most popular "gospel" which the majority of people seem to accept. I "asked Jesus into my heart" when I was very young (around 7), and ever since then, I'd been as far away from Him as I could get. I was into everything, until He opened my eyes and caused me to break down, not because I feared going to hell, which had caused multiple breakdowns years ago, but because, looking back at my sinful life, I had seen nothing but Grace and Mercy. Every single time I had sinned, He had shown either mercy, or grace, or both, every single time. It upset me because I realized that God HATES sin, and that no matter what good He did for me, I did nothing but mock Him and spit on Him. I realized that I should be DEAD right now, but God is full of mercy and grace, so He not only allowed me to live, but He showered abundant blessings on me, which I should not have received. He truly loves me and does not want to see me perish, and because of all He did for me while I was still a wicked sinner, I am living for Him.

Definitely worth the hour. Not only to understand what you’re handing out if you decide to offer it to others—but it’s equally valuable for encouraging your own heart. In this short book is a wealth of reminders, promises, and even warnings—not only for explaining the gospel, but for continually washing ourselves in it as believers. I read it through mostly to take in the content, but now I want to go back and meditate on many of these truths more deeply. I honestly think I might place this in my “read once a year” category. Sometimes we can get so buried in study that we miss the beauty of the One we are studying.

While no book can serve as a substitute for an in-person sharing of the gospel, I was looking for a short little book that I could give to non-Christians that would simply and succinctly lay out the gospel. While I have read a lot of books on Christianity, I find that many of them are too complex or intimidating for most non-Christians to want to read. I decided to give this book a read, and was very pleased with how it presents gospel truth. I have great respect for Paul Washer, and I think he has given the church an excellent resource. Short enough to be read in one quick sitting, written with simple language, and filled with Scripture, this will be a go-to for me.

A concise, thorough overview of the Gospel of the Scriptures. Washer does an excellent job of talking through each detail of what we as Christians believe. This book is beneficial for those new to the faith, those who still have questions, or those who believe and need guidance on how to preach the whole Gospel. Loved this little book!

Great afternoon read explaining the gospel in-depth, yet succinctly! A booklet short enough to be read in one sitting. I would highly recommend this to give to a non-believer interested in learning more about the faith. Nothing replaces word of mouth personal evangelism, but this could be an effective tool.

This book was a great little book on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a quick, but expansive book on the Gospel and genuine faith. I loved all the Bible verses quoted and how easy of a listen the book was. The self-examinations in the book were good as well.

Solid, simple, thorough explanation of the details of the gospel written in a way that will appeal to an unbeliever to trust in Christ and also refresh the spirit of the believer with the truth of salvation.

Concise, clear explanation of the Gospel making the distinction between the gospel and our response to the Gospel. Good resource to walk a new believer through or someone who wants to grow in understanding the gospel.

I recently entered college ministry and am looking to build up my collection of brief, biblical resources. This is a highly readable, brief, and (most importantly) biblical overview of the gospel. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this. Whether you’re completely new to learning about Jesus or, like me, have grown up knowing Him, this book offers a fresh and powerful perspective. Washer does a great job of laying out the core message of the gospel in a way that’s both clear and deeply convicting.
What stood out to me most was how he explains the depth of God’s holiness, our need for salvation, and the incredible grace offered through Christ. It’s not just surface-level teaching, he really digs into Scripture and challenges readers to reflect on their faith and what it truly means to follow Jesus.

Short but thorough booklet on the gospel! Covers questions such as "What is the gospel?" and "Who is God?", "Who are we?", "Who is Jesus?", "What is our response?"/"How can we be saved?", "How do we know we are saved?" and "How do Christians live?" I appreciate that the booklet goes through the character of God and our state as sinful humans before jumping into Christ's character, and it doesn't do it in a way where he lists out all of Christ's attributes, but instead reveals those attributes through statements of what Christ has done for us in his life, death, and resurrection. The self-examination questions for "Are you repenting?" and "Are you believing?" sections for both repentance and faith were useful, as were the assurances of salvation stemming from 1 John. I love the 7 points mentioned as the benefits of salvation - reminded me of the sweetness of what God has given us in Him. The characteristics listed in the section "How Then Shall We Live?" regarding fellowship with a biblical church are helpful for those considering what they should look for in a church and for those who are church members to examine how their church is doing in these areas and how one can grow. There are multiple Scripture references quoted in their chunked entirety throughout the book, which I really appreciated. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

15 years ago I wanted a booklet that I could give someone about the gospel, not just a track. I also didn’t want a book because I noticed most people didn’t like to read and I could find anything, I emailed close to 20 different seminary professors in three different seminaries because I did t know what to get (looking back I can’t believe I actually did that since it was completely random). I saw the suggestion from the 4 or 5 that actually responded but I didn’t like it (John Stott “Basic Christianity” 189 pages) because it was too long. This week I read a wonder little booklet “ The Gospel of Jesus Christ” by Paul Washer, it only has 32 pages and it deals throughly with the gospel message with questions after each chapter. I highly recommend it, I know I will be going through it again at some point, but this time with my children.

This is a booklet, not a book. It is excellent for what it seeks to accomplish: explaining the gospel in great biblical detail without being too long. No fluff at all here...only verses & Bible explanation. I would use it for somebody who is seriously asking about Christianity & studying the Bible. They have to be serious to read it since there are no illustrations, etc. A good example of having Scripture, gospel explanation & helpful illustrations is Greg Gilbert’s “What is the Gospel?”

I appreciate Washer’s clear faithful explanation & how he even gets into assurance & what’s next (prayer, Bible Study, a Church, evangelism & missions, etc). The booklet as a whole was helpful to me as a refresher for articulating the gospel.

Are you struggling with your Christianity? Read This Book!

I’m struggling with my Christianity. I’m a Prodigal. I Truly Believe In The Lord Jesus Christ. However, I don’t act as if I do!

This book goes over The Good News of Salvation. I know it already. This is a refresher course with salient pointers. It regularly pauses to help you assess where you are on your spiritual journey. This is a very helpful feature.

There is a structure to your next steps. There is no criticism or condemnation. It is very encouraging - but it’s left to me to apply myself! It’s not a lost cause, God’s desire is for all to be saved! That includes me (and you too, if you buy this book)!
