I enjoyed the opportunities to reflect within the chapters and the end of each one. The affirmations at the end of the reflection pages are great reminders and I returned to ones that I connected to even when I finished with that section.
Incredible book to help reshape the brain and automatic reflexes. It's great for people who've already done much c-PTSD work and are in a situation needing a mental-positivity booster shot. What I most appreciate is that it has practical mindset exercises; it's not just a "here's something to think about" or simply telling reader to analyze their best and then you'll be good. It guides analysis through skills to create internal change. I read and reread chapter by chapter, though it doesn't have to be done sequentially and there's tons of space for writing notes.
I loved this books as a Therapist, but even more so as human being who is healing from her own stories. Schwartz did an incredible job sharing easy, but meaningful activities, questions and tools to guide the reader in growth. This is a book I know I will refer to often as well as recommend to my clients.
So great. Very tangible, non-judgemental and useable for practitioners or for oneself. A great primer for how developmental trauma or shock trailing work, different effective responses to it, and how to heal. Arielle Schwartz is fantastic.
