The Bell Witch #4

Spring Slaughter

Rate this book
They thought the harvest was over. But a darker evil is about to be revealed…
It has been more than a year since the offspring of Black River’s oldest families made their final stand against the evil Bell Witch. Their victory took a heavy toll, and left the survivors scarred and estranged from their blood lines. But now, as they return home to their small, quiet town, they are shocked to discover a new evil, festering among the shadowy trees…

Without the threat of the Witch’s bloody harvest, the family elders have fallen into chaos. Internal squabbling has left them blind to this new enemy in their midst. Local legends have barely begun to fade, when a group of tourists go missing. Some say the Witch has returned. But Basheba, Mina, and the others believe it could be something even worse.

As the survivors dig deeper, they discover that one of their own may have been corrupted by an ancient evil—a power greater than anything they have faced before. But is the Bell Witch behind all this? Has she returned once again, to wreck vengeance on the families she cursed centuries ago?

Or does someone else lurk in the shadows, plotting to seize power for themselves?

A year after Basheba, Cadwyn, Ozzie and MIna defeat Katrina, the Bell Witch that has been terrifying their family members for generations, there are signs that she might be back. The quartet have been seeing strange things once again and the private investigator that they sent to Black River is missing. When Mina calls the estranged family members back together to discuss what might be happening, they learn that Katrina may have never gone away, just attached to a weaker link. However, Basheba believes that this entity might just be pretending to be Katrina and whatever this new thing is, isn't playing by the rules.

Spring Slaughter is the fourth book in the Bell Witch series and I would definitely recommend reading these books in sequential order to get to know the characters, their relationships and the history of the Bell Witch. As the book opened, I was glad to see Basheba and Cadwyn's relationship enduring even if it is highly unconventional. Mina and Ozzie have grown a lot since the first book and have proved themselves useful to the group in unexpected ways. The threat for this book isn't as direct as the other books. It seems as if Katrina is back to her old tricks in a different way, but the relationship with Claudia is confusing. The suspense is masterfully built as with the other books in the series with the horror creeping in and then crashing down in gory glory. I liked that we learned a little bit more about Basheba's Kraken as well as some of the feelings of the family elders. It was interesting to see Basheba and Cadwyn put at a bit of a disadvantage while the others had to come to their aid. The ending might have taken care of the immediate threat but left everyone with a lot more questions than answers, I can't wait to dive into the next book.

I can't rave highly enough about Sara Clancy's BELL WITCH Series, currently a quadrilogy. I read SPRING SLAUGHTER as an ARC, and boy, did it blow me away! Deeper and deeper in each volume we go: don't stop now! These four protagonists have become so much a part of me, as have some of their family members. Be prepared for shock after shock after shock!

Awesome! Love this series! Can't wait for book 5! Bashaba is one bad ass chick! Even all broke down her wit and intuition and her basic need for survival are phenomenal!!! Cadwyn is changing though, into a fury of revenge that may match that of his wife... the teams abilities are strong and they make for a unstoppable force!!! The families are suspiciously making themselves the enemy of this group of four rouge leaders for reasons unknown yet... barabys affection for Claudia is just plain weird and given his pathetic parenting style for his own children something is a miss between the two... he seems to detest his own daughter as her powers grow... however, that said, the ending was, well, not satisfactory in my opinion... too much was left unanswered... I hope that book 5 helps to clear it up... who was this evil force that entered their lives and what is it's end game? And where are Whitney's bones? Keep a close eye on baraby and Claudia they are clearly behind this unseen force of evil that will continue to haunt them all... again, I hope this is further clarified in book 5...

After the events of the last book, the gang has to once again enter their home town cause things are happening that point to the witch being back, but Basheba thinks that it isn't her. Things feel different!

This started slow but once it got going it was non stop. So much happens to each of them that I had to stop listening to just try to comprehend what was going on. The plot was fast paced and exciting and I can't wait to see how everything wraps up. The best thing about this series is the characters. Basheba and Cadwyn are my favourite. While their relationship is unusual, it's also awesome. They really care about each other.

I'm not sure how many more books are left in the series but I'm looking forward to reading them. I have my suspicions about certain characters and I need to see if I'm right!!

Once again the narrator was awesome. He reads this so well and I'm impressed with his tones and voices.

The Bell Witch series is my favorite of Sara Clancy's work. I love the characters, including those with flaws (Hi, Basheba). That said, I thought this book started off a bit slowly but picked up the pace as it went on until it reached an OMG conclusion. It still merits a solid five stars because, well, Basheba.
The protagonists in Spring Slaughter are still recovering from the horrors of the last book when they are required to once again enter the realm of Katrina. They thought Katrina was killed in the last book but there are signs that she is still around. But wait, things are a bit different this time. Maybe it is not Katrina after all but something even more scary. You'll need to read the book to find out, and I suggest you do so.

Starting To Slip

I read all 6 books in the Bell Witch series. The driver to do this was primarily for the characters, and secondary for the plot. But the plot started to fall apart or get too muddled for me after the 3rd book. In a way it was disappointing. The main characters started to get too far out there about the 4th book. I honestly believe the author should have left both the plot and characters alone. The scene settings were fairly decent and remained constant throughout the series. All in all it was worth the time and effort, and I found it enjoyable.

Great to escape with

I read the series while I was sick, one right after the other. I felt the books improve, maybe because I started caring more about the characters, maybe because the plot thickened. But I really enjoyed reading all of them. I felt so lousy, I needed some excitement in my reading to keep me awake. These books delivered excitement. My cold thanks you.

O jeeze,

Another book? The first 3 were remarkably similar, I got the 4th with little enthusiasm. I was fairly pleased with half of it. Upon nearing the end I got the feeling Clancy was milking it. I was right. Soon to be yet ANOTHER Bell Book. How long can this carry it's self and keep fans?

Not so great

This novella shouldn't have been published as it is. I haven't read the next novella in this series yet but they probably should have put this one and the next together in one book. Because that's what it feels like, the first half of a book. I'm enjoying this series and so far this is the weakest. Hopefully things p puck back up in the next one.

What is really out there?

Katrina is gone... Or is she? What is after our group of five (plus Buck)? Demons? The Kraken? Another witch? Something else? The group keeps getting battered, but they keep getting up, and as long as they do - and as long as there's still something to fight - I'll keep reading!

I really enjoyed this book. I felt like it wasn’t at the same level as the first three books in the series, but it was still a good read. It seemed more like a transition book to get into the new plot away from Katrina being the main villain. It introduced a lot but didn’t explain much of what was brought up.

This is book number three in the series but could be a stand alone but wouldn't be as good without the character building. Sara builds her books on one another. You have torture, death. So much action with twists and turns along with shear horror. I highly recommend this book.

Old threats or new

Each book I read leaves me looking forward to the next. Each book is well written, blending something from the last book with new threats. I love the way each character grows with every book.

This book carries the torch the box set of 1-3 put in front of us. Racing forward nothing is what it seems and blam, upper-cut to knock you on your butt! Fantastic read I cruised through in several heartbeats.

Spring Slaughter is here, written by Sara Clancy. This is what we all have been waiting for, to see how it would all end. This series is fantastic and I for one was drawn in from the very first book. I had no choice but to binge read this and thank you kindle unlimited for allowing this!.

The author is incredibly imaginative and came up with yet another plot that is so completely different from the others yet fits in perfectly with the series. It is a true nail biter and keeps you glued to the pages. I just basically just set aside the time needed and read right through it, and trust me it was well worth it.

Our 4 main characters are at it again, and are facing yet more evil. They are not quite certain is it still the Bell Witch or is it something more sinister, something that was behind that witch? Well you will have to read to find out since I don't do spoilers. All I can tell you is that you will love it if you are into this type of genre. In this final book it all comes together to a big final climax and you will have to read it yourself to see who will prevail, good or evil.
