“As the atmosphere changes, as encounters become more alive, suddenly we find ourselves thinking differently.” – Bill Johnson, Senior Pastor, Bethel Church, Redding, California. In this book, we will explore what the “alive encounters”are that Johnson speaks about, what it means to “think differently”, and how the influence of the New Age and its unbiblical, occult practices have invaded and infiltrated the body of Christ. You will have a bird’s eye view into one of the fastest growing “Christian” churches in the world - Bethel Church in Redding, California. Bethel Church is home to Bethel Music, and the very popular band, Jesus Culture - whose music is used in almost every church around the globe. As a Christian believer in Jesus Christ, you will find that this book provides important information that will help you to also be aware of a very subtle and deceptive movement called the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) that is drawing in millions of unsuspecting Christians everywhere. Likewise, it will leave you with vital questions to help you discern the beliefs and practices of Bethel Church, the New Apostolic Reformation and beyond. The book, A Hidden Path, contains many quotes of leaders in the movement and is backed by 30 videos that the reader can watch via the links on our website. It is a powerful tool to give to someone who is currently in the movement or for someone who is unsure about the activities happening in his/her church and wants to learn more. A Hidden Path is the third publication of Sound Word Ministry - a worldwide group of believers who have come out of these movements, and are committed to uphold the integrity of the Word ofGod and its sound doctrine.
At a time when the cancerous and unscriptural teachings and practices of Bethel Church of Redding are infiltrating the church at a very alarming rate a book like this one is greatly needed, especially among young people. The author refutes these teachings and practices with scripture at every turn and shows how and why Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotin are false teachers and how the music of Jesus Culture helps to spread the wrong message and make it that much more popular. Bethel Redding poses a genuine threat to the church at large and so many Christians are unaware of this and unaware of the New Age influences within Bethel and the church's Supernatural School of Ministry. Books like this not only sound the alarm but equip believers with truth. I very highly recommend this book.
Well documented, especially with the videos available on their website. This helped confirm for me that what is coming out of Bethel Church, overall, is not biblical and not from God. I was already troubled by many of the topics covered here, including: the Passion Translation, the teaching of Bill Johnson and others, the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, Sozo. I appreciated learning some of the historical information surrounding Bethel. However, I felt they were primarily writing to people active in the NAR or Bethel as an audience and not to a wider body of believers. Worth reading if you want to know more about the NAR or Bethel Church.
This is a great book of you are interested in the New Age teachings that come out of Bethel. Because of the number of links within the book I recommend that you bye the Kindle edition, you can click on the YouTube link etc,.
An excellent book exposing the deceit of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and New Age practices which are entering our churches these days, lead primarily by Beth Church in Redding, CA.
+ Great investigation. The book shows a much more dramatic picture than assumed.
+ Very important discernment on Jesus Culture & Bethel Music:
"We have heard it said that Jesus Culture is the 'gateway drug to the supernatural'. Another has described Jesus Culture music as 'Hansel and Gretel's crumbs' that is used by Bethel as a way to lure and indoctrinate unsuspecting people, especially youth, into the New Apostolic Reformation's cesspool of deception."
CONS
- Endorsement of Todd Friel, who is a Calvinist.
- Some outdated links, even in the Kindle book.
QUOTES
"Even the children at Bethel are trained to 'go to heaven' and are reported to 'hang out there'. They are being taught to pray for arms to grow out, and they practice raising people from the dead. Bethel's Children Leader, Deborah Reed confirms this practise: 'Yes, we take our kids to heaven, who doesn't? People who know how to do heaven things take our kids to heaven. We also have 'tour guides' who take our Middle Schoolers to heaven.' Some followers of the NAR take these trips on a daily basis."
"... people lining up for their next zap, seeking after thrills and being biblically illiterate, because it feels good and seems right. G-d wants us to be under the control of the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit means being humble and submissive to the authority of the Lord Jesu Christ - not drunk.
"WARNING: We, as disciples of Christ, need to recognize some sobering truths with regard to Satan and his undertakings. [...] We would be remiss in not simultaneously pointing out that his assaults come embedded with thousands of years of experience at deceiving the souls of men. As followers of Christ, we must recognize that his most piercing and cutting assaults will come under a chameleon-like cover—in the form of a pseudo-Christian masquerade. He will not appear draped in a conspicuous red leotard-like outfit exhibiting pointed horns and a pointed tail while sporting a pitch fork—but rather as a prominent evangelical figure! This especially includes the host of NAR leaders we see flooding the spiritual landscape of present day American Evangelical Christianity. They appear postured as some of the most popular so-called Christian leaders while operating undercover as agents of hell."
