The essays in this book have solid, practical tips to make your life better, happier, and more fulfilled. My favorite articles are "10 ways to stop your smartphone ruining your life" and "How to be happy (nearly) all the time."
Heavy with quotes, rich in references to relevant literature, straightforward and clear writing style--this book is something you will want to keep coming back to.
A lot of the advice is super helpful for business owners, so if you are one then do check this book out.
(I received a review copy from the author via Booktasters in exchange for an honest review.)

Bang! Covid-19! And time just stops. Everybody stops. Everything stops.
This is the time to test ourselves about the concept of time itself. In stay-at-home situation, are we going to spend the abundantly free time being depressed, watching TV all day, glue our eyes on the phone; OR are we seeing this situation as an opportunity to learn, to evolve, to get ready, and be prepared of what is laying ahead.
Jodie Cook makes an entrance with a loud wake-up call of the book. Everybody knows that time is our only finite resource. Everybody understands that once it’s lost, it would never be found. Yesterdays are lost forever. And yet, most of us still think and act that we will definitely to see the sun rising tomorrow.
This pandemic should have wake us all that our time is literally limited. We are not going to live forever. End of story.
But we are still alive. Again, are we going to sit and let everything just goes by until the clock stops ticking or we are going to make the best of our time and live our lives to the fullest?
Reading these 36 articles is like sitting on a comfy couch with your best friend and enjoy a simple but deep conversation. When you finish, you’ll have a different perspective of the things commonly taken for granted. That’s when your life changing starts.
Stop Acting Like You’re Going To Live Forever is meant for a business book. But don’t expect heavy business technical materials in it. In fact, you can change the business concept into life in general. But if you still take it as a business book, this book actually provides the basic foundation you need to know before you go into more technical sides of any business.
Chipping those articles is really enjoyable. They are written simple but powerful. Talking from how to be happy all the time to how to live a miserable life. From alternative ways to be rich to how smartphone is actually ruining your life.
Every article, this is my favorite part, ends with a quote taken from Grandmaster Jose Raul Capablanca to Winnie The Pooh. It just shows that motivation to be success, to be our best, can be from anybody. Either famous people or a cartoon character. Listen to what they are talking for more, not only seeing who is talking.
This is not a book that after you finish reading, you just put it on the shelf. You can read it again to remember what you need to do in the pursue to your success. The more you read it, the more you understand, the easier you apply what you have understood. Then success is just around the corner.
As Jodie was also included in Forbes’ 30 under 30 social entrepreneurs in Europe 2017 and gave a TED talk with the title ‘creating useful people’, the book comes with a handy guided journal. The readers can apply what they have read and understood into their personal life easier.
James Clear said,”Don’t put in average effort and claim that you want exceptional results.” Let’s work exceptionally and claim an exceptional success. Happy reading!

Really good read, easy and with just enough repetition to truly reinforce the key concepts. Dismantle the false dichotomy between "living well" and "working hard" because they can (and should) be one in the same.
Definitely worth the read, only took a few hours to get through and contains countless nuggets of wisdom.

Stop Acting Like You're Going To Live Forever: 36 articles to help you think differently and achieve your version of success, now, by Jodie Cook
JayBee Media Limited. 2019
237 pages.
Genre / Thematic: Motivation / Entrepreneurship
This book is a compendium of thirty-six excellent short articles on how to develop and manage a successful businesses; how to make your interpersonal relationships more satisfying, your life fuller and calmer, and your projects more meaningful; and on how to find balance, peace, control and happiness in your day to day and in your future. In the author's words, "these articles have been written to help you create the reality that matches your personal version of success."
Challenging ideas rooted in the minds of the majority (that "being busy" will lead to success, that your competitor is your enemy, that a successful businessperson is one who daily improvises, that pleasing everyone will lead you somewhere, that visualizing means getting, etc.), J. Cook explores and shares smarter ways of being, thinking, and working, while also providing tips for focusing on what matters and letting go of what makes noise, distracts, and just gets in the way.
Stop Acting Like You're Going To Live Forever is a very enjoyable, documented book, with a very clear and focused logic, and I think it is a totally recommended reading for anyone who is willing to leave behind the pretexts and grow as a person and as an entrepreneur.

Jodie has managed to read *a lot* of personal development books and has taken some of the best ideas and quotes out of them to mix into her series of essays.
The book should not be read all at once. You could drip it out over a month and a bit (there are 36 essays altogether), reading one essay a day, or read 2-3 a day if you'd like to get through it faster. Either way, you're going to get a lot of value from this book, not because she's discussing ideas you've never heard before (though she does deal with some issues that are not much written about) but because she's talking about life and business in short and powerful shots that ask you to thoughtfully examine what you're doing.
My favorite essays are: "Should You Start a Side Project?", "Make Saying No Your Superpower,"
(quoting Rob Hallmark) "If you were given £500,000 right now, would you spend it on the business you're currently running?" (p. 147)
"You can always be the bigger person; you can always choose to forgive. you can always opt to get on with your life and hope that some day they can get on with theirs." (p. 77)
"If you allow yourself to work only 20 hours per week, you'll make ruthless decisions and be forced to prioritize only the essential." (p. 131)
"A dream without a plan is just a wish, and wishing is not a strategy for success." (p. 71)
"When you have nothing to prove your only competition is your former self. You carry out actions because you believe them to be the right thing to do, which is enough. You find it easy to show kindness and you seek no reward in return. You hold no grudges. You seek no revenge. You forgive anyone who has attempted to hurt you or who wishes you harm. You feel sad that others waste their time and energy proving themselves or justifying their actions but you hope they find happiness regardless. You look forward to the day when they feel how you do, because it feels peaceful and calm." (p. 223)
On the comment culture:
"...you might think that everything is there for you to comment on. But it's not." (p. 40)
"...opinions don't make you happy. Start avoiding opinions day-to-day and you will realize how often they are aired." (p. 205)

When I started reading this book I did not know that it’s focus was entrepreneurship/business, I thought it was simply a self-improvement book. After realizing this, I wondered if I should keep reading. I was not interested in any of those at the time. I decided to continue reading because the advice given was relevant to my life, no, I was not working on any business project, but I was working on many things.
I am grateful I read this book because it made me feel confident and gave me a push to focus on my goals. I love the way the book pushes you to not self-sabotage your life and to take responsibility for your choices and lifestyle. The book is very honest and straight to the point which I appreciate because it makes you take action in your life as soon as you start reading (if you really want to become a better person). For me this book became a mentor, I read it almost everyday for a least 20 minutes, it was like I had a meeting everyday with someone who was teaching me how to be human and love being human. During my time reading this book I noticed that my attitude began to change in a positive way; I was beginning to feel motivated or ready each day. My moods also started to be more stable. Maybe this was not a direct result of reading the book but I can say for sure that each day I felt that I had the power to do whatever I wanted.
Reading this book also helped me to be patient. Not directly, let me explain: the book is very simple and direct so as I kept reading it I began to leave expectations behind and focus on a good way. At the beginning I thought this was bad because I was not feeling entertained by the book. I felt that everything it said I already knew. However, the approach that the author uses to say these things kept me engaged. The words made me feel reassured and confident to take action in my life and projects. I definitely recommend this book if you need inspiration and guidance in your life or projects. I don’t think it will solve your life, only you and God have the power to do that, but it can definitely give you perspective on the life you want to live. Thank you, this book was a journey.

This is my honest review!
Wow! This book serves two purpose on me, one as a great motivation in how to deal with life's problems, and second as a spark for growth in how to turn things around my business.
Number one. I learned some great lessons in this book on how to get on with my life no matter what people think and say about me. And it taught me how to grow as a person and how to reach my potentials. It motivates me to keep my head up and get on with what I truly believe is true and will bring change in my life and the people around me. It also taught me why I should ignore the constant nagging and uncomfortable feelings that I am not doing things the right way, that I should focus on how to correct myself and build a long lasting relationship with my life. This book has taught me how precious time is and what it means to waste a second idly, that time cannot be recovered when lost. It taught me how to stay at the big dreams I have and visualize myself and take action. It taught me the negative effect of how I use my smartphone and at the same time the positive effects and also gave me an idea on how to have a balance relationship with my smartphone.
Number two. This book is spark for growth in handling business problems. It taught me how to maintain a long lasting customer relationship and how to grow and become unique in my career. There are lessons that words can't describe them because they are too big and impactful for words to describe. This book has taught me that experience and determination are the keys to building a long lasting sustainable business. It gives me an insight on how to perfect my interpersonal skills and improve my life.
I don't know what more I can say about the author of this book absolutely the best in the business.
Thank you so much. And also to booktasters.

THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN FOR ME! I cannot count all the "wow" moments I had while reading these articles. The examples taken were so relevant to me and what I am going through. I am really grateful for this book.
"Stop acting like you're going to live forever" changed the way I consider Time. It's one of the best assets we have in life and yet we waste our it in doing things that we're not interested in or in stuff that won't get us anywhere. "Busy is not an indicator of success" and time is our only finite ressource, once it's gone, it is gone. The best moment we have is now, yesterday is gone and we don't know if we'll see tomorrow. This is why every second is an opportunity to do our best and live our best.
By reading this book, I also realized how much I valued the opinions of other people, mostly the negative ones and how this has been affected my life. "There are those that do and those who watch in awe". I only need approval from me. I realized that whatever I do, some people will always trash talking. So now, I am focusing only on what I can achieve and my definition of success. Because"I can be their obsession, but they'll never be mine".
Even it is a business book, I mostly find advice and tips that I can apply in my own personal life. I love the fact that the articles had a lot of interesting book recommendations and the quotes were super motivating. My favorite articles are :
1- Read this and they will never break you
2- Make saying no your super power
3- Should you start a side project?
This is not a one-time to read book. It's rather a tool to keep near you, to go through whenever you feel the need to. There are articles that I read everyday and I don't think I will get rid of them. This book is worth reading! I recommend it!

Create your own version of success, Now!
Jodie Cook wrote 36 amazing articles aiming at achieving your full potential not only in business but in life. I believe that if you have successfully developed your interpersonal skills, your life will be more satisfying, balanced, and meaningful.
The big question that captured my attention from the introduction was “How do you sustain your drive and keep going?” followed by another Ahh moment “Time is our only finite resource. Once time is lost it is never found.”
I reflected deeply – Am I doing the right thing in the right time? The answer came up in the following pages. It was like I am facing a mirror “Stop, you are not going to live forever”.
This book is useful for everyone not only businessmen or entrepreneurs as it addresses the mindsets, beliefs behind our actions and most importantly the rooted ideas in our system.
Jodie Cook equipped her book with quotes, and references with a straightforward and clear writing style. It is a kept book, highly recommended if you need to push yourself a little further to start living your best life.

At the point of writing this review I hadn't finished reading the book. I did not read it traditionally from front cover to back cover. instead, I read the chapters I felt were most relevant to my life at the moment.
I like how the book is practical in the suggestions and advice it offers. instead of just saying think positively and everything will work out the essays engage your thinking in a way that invokes introspection and deep thinking. It is not a hand guide approach saying step 1 do this. Step 2 do that but rather a "consider things this way" and "think of things from this angle" type of approach I got from the book. This helps because it can be adapted to different contexts.
If you're heavy on self improvement and always want to present the best version of yourself to the world. This book should be in your collection.
It reads like It is written for entrepreneurs though so keep that in mind. The only time I have for reading is nights and off days so maybe if it was shorter I'd rate it 5 stars instead of 4_or maybe I just need a different 9 to 5 that can afford me reading time. Great book.

Jodie Cook in this compilation of 36 articles, wrote words that will propel you from resting on your potential energy to using your kinetic energy in full force.
Every article resonates the two important elements between us and our success: YOUR TIME and YOU, teaches you how to navigate your thoughts and create your own version of success.

I came across this book by a random notification and never thought it will be one of the best books I've ever read (so far). Throughout the book I never felt like I'm reading a book, it was more like a personal conversion that I was having with the author as if the author has written the book just for me.
I was planning to start a business for some time and was dealing with this very lazily but yes after reading this book I know I'm gonna start it.
You can win was the first book who raised the interest of reading a self-help book and this is the first book that raised the interest of reading books on how to start a business.
One more thing I must mention, the author has really read a lot of books as you'll find references to many books throughout the book.
I'll be looking for more books from Jodie.

The book is a reflection of our present society and how to tackle the challenges that are holding individuals and business owners back from living their best lives. It’s more like the extended version of “The Subtle Art of Not Given a Fxxk”. It’s a great book for boundless visionary who want to make a difference in today’s world, despite all forms of opposition from different spheres of life. Quite relatable and easy to read.

Really enojoyed reading
Each learning is practical and easy to apply. I find that the teaching from the book can be applied to personal as well as professional life.
The length of each chapter is not very long, which made the reading experience even better. I prefer shorter chapters as that allows to absorb the message. Helps me retain things better.
Some of the lessons sound obvious, but are actually very meaningful.

I was so surprised after reading such dark title to discover a very inspirational content, vivid and full of energy. A very good read, not only for entrepreneurs but also for anyone in need of a positive perspective in life. I started applying some tips already!

Reading this book was the best decision I ever made. Such an eye opener, this book changed my perspective about time, money and business. I loved the motivational quotes at the end of each article. It’s a must read for business related people as well as the students studying business.

Enjoyed reading this book and felt like the promoted principles were laid out in an easy way to understand. I did often get confused as to whether I was reading a book for small business owners because this kept getting referenced. However, I would still recommend the book.

Joodie has written this book to help the entrepreneur and business person. Sometimes we loose the motivation and basic fundamental values and this book reminds us of it.

We are, each of us, a product of the stories we tell ourselves. Forever is a short time for any human from almost all aspects abound, it's a clear challenge to live both purposefully and cheerful enough to have done so. We should train ourselves to see in almost every set of circumstances, opportunity instead of a problem. Each of us is leading a difficult life, and when we meet people we are seeing only a tiny part of their complex, troubled existences. Since we have the time we should learn as much as we can and take-up the challenge of being the best version of ourselves.
I like how every main point in the book is highlighted and the fact that it makes the book easy to follow and read, it is one of the easiest books I've read so far.

My favorite from now. And the best I can advise to those who want and need some pure advice and motivation especially in this time of quarantine days.
The thing we love about the book is that it speaks about the real life situations and relatable issues of business environment.
It discusses the issues which are common everywhere and hearing it's answers from others makes is irritated sometimes. To them we answers : I know that, why r you telling me that again and again? It's so common sense. But we overlook those issues in practical life and makes the mistakes which may result in permanent damage to our business and which may not be able to be reversed.
It also challenges us about what we believe, is right? And if it is right, will it be be helpful and growth full in the success of our business?
Every page is like a 'try not to read' challenge. There are some chapters like, 'How to stop caring about what others think; Two mantras to shape your year; Can your business survive when you going on holidays; Consumption is killing your success; Be exceptional today; Visualization is not a substitute to hard work; How it feels when you have nothing to prove' are few of those chapters which are my personal favorite. And this is the reason I read them three to four times.
Time to time references throughout the book makes it more relatable and easier in few words what the chapter really teaches us.
To be honest, I did only waited for movies in my life but I'm waiting for books too now. This just made me fall in love with reading books.
