Kim Fielding lives in Oregon and travels as often as she can manage. A professor by day, at night she rushes into a phone booth to change into her author costume (which involves comfy clothes instead of Spandex and is, sadly, lacking a cape). Her superpowers include the ability to write nearly anywhere, often while simultaneously doling out assistance to her family. Her favorite word to describe herself is "eclectic" and she finally got that seventh tattoo.

I love short little sweet holiday stories...and this was exactly what I was craving to fill an afternoon.
Adorkable meet-cute with a spark.
Two neighbors brought together by a tragic accident.
Candle making gone wrong = fiery whoopsie.
Uri and Oscar hit it off instantly.
They made me smile and I couldn't help but let an 'awwww slip a time or two.
Fielding's holiday stories are always a must for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this tender tale.
Not much angst but lots of fluff.

Uri regrets making his own menorah candles. He's never been very crafty, and playing with fire leads to disaster.

Fortunately, his neighbor Oscar is there to save him, even if Uri insists he doesn't need saving.

I liked this story, which mentions both Hanukkah and Christmas. We get some background information about the MCs, enough that I was hoping Uri would accept Oscar's invitation.

I did wish the ending hadn't been so rushed and tentative. I'm rounding down for that reason.

This story! So damn cute with the banter and Uri’s inner musings. Uri’s craft challenged and when he attempts some holiday homemade magic he burns his condo down. Bless his heart, but he is a hot mess in the most charming of ways.

He gets to know his neighbor Oscar thriugh his klutziness and lucky him! The two of them are a total treat together and they fall hard and fast, but in a believable and pretty reasonable way. Oscar’s efforts to learn about Uri’s faith is heartwarming and Uri’s appreciation is humbling and adorable. I just loved these two together and this story was a humorous warm hug wrapped up in just a handful of pages.

Rounded up: 2.75*

It's a short fic that starts of funny and sweet; but I did feel when it came to wrapping up the story it became rushed as regards plot and writing.

While much of it is heartwarming the sentiment at the end, however nice, fell flat for me - it's a jigsaw piece that doesn't fit with the rest no matter how I try. Meant while I enjoyed the little festive short my end emotion was largely 'huh?'

Happy holidays !

Uri, 32, is set to celebrate Hanukkah alone. To make it special, he intends to make his own candles. Being well known as a klutz seems to curse his crafting, too. His neighbor, Oscar, a city engineer, helps him after the fiasco.
They become fast friends, where each one helps the other celebrate their festivities, without their families.
Charming, sentimental, and heartwarming holidays.
Enjoy !

Burning down one's apartment while trying to make Hannukkah candles is one way to meet the sexy man next door! In just a few short pages, Kim Fielding gives us a sweet holiday story that combines latkes and menorahs with tamales and luminarias and brings together two men who honor their parents and family memories with their holiday traditions.

This low-key low-angst story illustrates the simple truth that when "You enjoy the other person's company, you back them up when they need it. You think of ways to make them happy." I love the charming story about Uri's mother and her credo "I'd rather waste my life on wonderful possibilities than on boring certainties" and how Uri is willing to finally do the same and embrace the possibility that he and Oscar are at the beginning of a life together. 4.5 stars for "Get Lit."
But candles and stove flames weren't the only kind of lights. A different kind could be kindled in the heart and soul if you allowed yourself to fall in love with the right person.

I think the blurb of this short story had me with the word "klutz" *laugh*. What can I say, I love people who are a little bit un-coordinated. I'm a dropper, myself. I drop a LOT of things, so I can connect to them.

The story starts with Uri covered in GLITTER *double laugh*. I was charmed immediately. Things moved from there with Uri making other mishaps and well, his sexy neighbor helps him got through the disaster. And overall, this is pretty sweet. I loved Uri and his resignation about people wishing him Christmas. I loved Oscar for not letting Uri celebrating his Hanukkah alone, and that he was curious and respectable enough with Uri's faith.

And despite what seemingly a very fast progress between Uri and Oscar, but the holiday charm -- and the fact that they have been neighbor first rather than complete strangers -- soothes my complaining self.

I think we could all use more sweetness at holiday time, right? And more Hanukkah goodness. Plus, for those of us who are klutzes, perhaps we need a character we can empathize with. This story offers all three.I enjoyed writing it, and I hope it helps set the right mood for you!

Making his own candles for Hanukkah did sound interesting, but not really, when Uri burned his apartment and must stayed in Oscar's, a neighbor he had crush on for a while.
Blessing in disguise.
Uri's crush was not a one sided crush. Oscar had crush on him too.
Well yeah, all ended well after the fire.

Get Lit was an adorable holiday short featuring cute neighbours who are drawn together by an unfortunate event. I found klutzy Uri charming and loved how strongly his and Oscar's hearts of gold came through. I also liked that this story celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas. Though the start of Uri and Oscar's relationship is a tad unconventional for a feel good romance, I couldn't help but fall for these two and enjoyed seeing them find hope and home in each other. Get Lit is definitely one that is sure to leave readers smiling.

Uri and Oscar were adorable!

Neighbors for a month, they'd seen each other often, but nothing exciting had passed between them until an emergency broke out with Uri. Oscar was there, caring, comforting, and perfect.

The MC's were so sweet. Both of them knew there was a spark, but neither wanted to push too hard or fast and ruin everything.

As a novella, I felt like I read enough into their personalities and their story that it was believable and sweet without feeling like I'd missed out. Overall, a fun holiday read.

Uri has had a crush on his neighbor, Oscar, since the man moved into their complex. Uri might be a klutz, but he is determined to do some home-made candle dipping to help his family celebrate Hanukkah, but when even that goes pear-shaped can Uri and Oscar make things right?

Being a klutz myself (especially when it comes to anything fire-related) I found myself equal parts commiserating with Uri burning half his flat down and struggling not to laugh and laugh. A completely understandable (and for me, personally, relatable!) mishap with melting the wax for the candles on the stove and a rather out-of-date fire extinguisher had me actually pause my reading, go back and re-read this early scene all over again just to enjoy it immediately a second time. I can’t recall the last time I’ve done that and laughed so hard.

This is a really heart-warming story about two completely different men finding not just a lovely romance together, but opening their minds as well as hearts. Uri celebrates Hanukkah – not Christmas – and Oscar is feeling wistful and missing his family back in Mexico, so watching these two men build and explore some new holiday traditions together was delightful. I really enjoyed how the short length of the story meant we could see Uri and Oscar finally act on their long-standing attraction and I loved seeing how the two men meshed together so well. Despite their many differences they complimented each other really well to my mind, and there was certainly plenty of chemistry between them.

I was a bit surprised that twice Uri and Oscar agreed to take things slow and not make a fairly natural progression forward with the intensity of their relationship. Reading looking for something strongly erotic or explicit won’t find that here. While I would have enjoyed a bit more steam between the two men I can’t fault the author for making Uri and Oscar’s relationship believable and the purposeful intent of taking it slow to make a solid foundation for them to build a lasting relationship together was sweet and enjoyable to read.

Full of humour, fun antics and narrowly avoided disasters, this is a great and enjoyable read. With a really snappy title that I loved this is an excellent holiday story and an author I plan to keep an eye on.

A gifted writer is evident from the opening scene. Kim Fielding’s Get Lit starts with a glitter bomb disaster, and we just know trouble is a-brewing.

Clumsy Uri only wants to light the menorah his parents gave him. There are no candles in its size, so he’s at the craft store getting candle-making supplies when he’s glitter bombed. It doesn’t help when everyone wishes him a Merry Christmas. “He wasn’t the type to get tied in knots when people wished him well for the wrong holiday,” Fielding informs us. “Still, it would have been nice to receive an occasional Happy Hanukkah.”

It’s harder to make candles than expected, and soon Uri has destroyed his apartment. He finds himself relying upon the kindness of new neighbor, Oscar Cortez. But a klutz who courts disaster can’t expect the gorgeous, generous Oscar to be more than a benevolent stranger.

Or can he? After all Oscar offers him a gift. “Viewing oneself through the eyes of someone who saw the best in you.” How does Oscar do this? Here’s Oscar’s reaction to the fire. “‘That’s really sweet. Not the conflagration part. But you made an effort to honor your parents and your family memories.’”

‘Get Lit’ is a story of respecting our heritage while risking new friendships with different cultures. And with the deftness of a caricature artist, Fielding captures the essence of two men in 33 short pages, showing why they meld so beautifully.

If you’re filled with self-doubt, need a smile, or want to experience the miracle of Hanukkah, Get Lit” is for you. My only regret was that it wasn’t a full-length novel.

A festive short story with a different type of heat to it when Uri catches his home alight when trying candle making for the first time. His neighbour, Oscar, offers help and it's a chance for them to grow closer.
Poor Uri! He has a lot of trouble with clumsiness, he has many examples to provide, this one though may be the worst, leaving his home inhabitable over the holiday season. His first Hannukah alone since his divorce does not go the way he hopes but definitely takes a turn up when the neighbour he's been fancying since he moved in offers food and shelter. Oscar is really kind and wants to help however he can but Uri struggles with confidence and putting himself on others which probably comes from his years of causing accidents and injuries to himself and others. Oscar takes it all in stride though and it makes for a heartwarming romance that is just getting started.
A good, quick festive read with both Hannukah and Christmas decorations, two lonely men who get the chance to celebrate and be together.

It was amazingly well-done for such a short story. I laughed at Uri's clumsiness, it seems he was plagued by a case of bad luck that brought Oscar, the super-nice neighbor, into his life.
They were adorable together, imperfect people that are perfect for each other.

They have tried to take things very slow but fate played it's hand to expedite matters when Uri landed in a hotel room from hell. Things started progressing at the break-neck speed but they were charmingly done, so no complaints from me.

I loved that Uri and Oscar have ended up celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas and were respectful of each other's traditions. They have found hope and love unexpectedly and made the best out of worst circumstances.

All the klutzy stars.

This is a pretty cute story and the author does an awesome job of endearing you to Uri. I mean here's a guy who's spending his first Hanukkah alone and wants to bring something special to the tradition by making his own candles...and burns down his house in the process. He's so sympathetic and loveable that of course his neighbor Noah falls for him. And Noah is just such a nice guy too. Despite that, their romance does feel pretty fast (even though they agree to take things slow). It feels like they're all in with each other only days in and that felt kinda fast. And aside from that, nothing much happens here...it's totally a fluff story without any angst or drama.

I loved Uri and his klutziness but you can see what a kind heart he has. Then there is Oscar, not only did he go out of his way to help Uri, but he wants to do things 'right' in starting a relationship with him. His steps to make Uri's Hanukkah special not only made Uri swoon but me as well. Oscar seems so sweet that you just know that these two are going to end up with a super sappy forever.
It's Kim Fielding people, just buy it!

It's always a treat to see the season's other holidays get some recognition - Christmas isn't the only reason for the season. Peace, love, joy, and miracles aren't reserved for only one faith grouping.

This was a unique, fun and sort of funny romance. I shouldn’t be laughing at Uri’s klutziness because it was kinda dangerous, but everything works into a hea in the long run. It is a Hanukah story and I like that there is other holidays presented.

Uri and craft projects reminded me so much of myself. Although, to give him credit, he at least seems to keep trying whereas I gave up attempting to do anything with a glue gun after multiple incidents involving me gluing myself to various items and myself. I could certainly relate as he tried so hard to get the candle making project to go smoothly. Personally, I would have given up as soon as I was covered in the glitter bomb at the craft store.
