Coffee addled, twitter addicted, A disabled romance author based in the UK, Stefanie Simpson has written multiple contemporary romances as well as fantasy romance.
Most of her work contains angst, healing and conflict. Expect strong adult content and themes, language, explicit material, love and a HEA.
Stefanie Simpson has a way with writing character that, honestly, a lot of the rest of us writers could learn from. She takes a nuanced, deep look through the eyes of the characters and presents that perspective to the reader in a way that encourages an understanding that sticks with said reader for the entirety of the story.
In this story, the tone of the writing feels like it exemplifies Heidi: how she perceives, reacts to, and interacts with the world around her. Heidi, a sub who sometimes struggles with the world around her, just wants to live her life. Julian, a dom, is organized. Neat and tidy and smitten with Heidi and the loving chaos she represents (and, perhaps, smitten with the idea of curbing some of it).
Above all else, My Keeper feels like a story about redemption, both for Heidi and for Julian. For Heidi, it may be about understanding that she is enough. For Julian, it may be able being able to keep Heidi safe and in his arms. Overall, it's an HEA that is completely satisfying for everyone involved, and I would definitely recommend it.
This is my first time reading a dom/sub story. I really fell for Heidi. The disability rep was written beautifully. And I’ll never think of chain restaurants quite the same after that steamy scene. Plenty of heat balanced with sweetness and heart. I can’t wait to dive into more of Simpson’s collection.
I liked this book Very short and smutty, but also with a lot of heart and good representation! Writing was a little choppy, but I didn't mind too much since it's short form.
Rating: 4 stars What I Liked: This was so cute and sweet. It put a smile on my face, especially towards the end. For such a short story, I think that the author did a good job at developing both characters as I felt I really knew them by the end. The writing style in it was quite interesting - I wasn’t sure I liked it at first because it was quite clipped and literal, but by the end I barely noticed and I think it suited the story overall. Heidi was a lovely main character. I liked seeing her perspective on things. Whilst she was soft and sweet, there was a determination to her that I really appreciated seeing. Julian was a nice hero - I liked that he backed off when asked to and that he genuinely wanted to help and care for her. Their relationship was lovely, too. They had good chemistry and the sex scenes were well-written, but I really enjoyed how loving and gentle the relationship was. I liked that they actually talked everything through - not just the sex, but their feelings and experiences, and made sure that they were both on the same page constantly. It felt very mature and sensible. I also liked Heidi’s boss, Penny - she was a wonderful character and I’m so glad that Heidi found her when she needed her. What I Didn’t: There was nothing I really disliked. If anything, I’d have liked it to be a bit longer because I was enjoying the characters and their story. Overall: This is a really lovely little novella. There’s a really mature and sensible side to the relationship that I loved seeing depicted - they talk about everything and consent and comfort of both participants is always at the forefront. It’s also really sweet and adorable in a lot of parts and I found the ending quite heartwarming. Would I Recommend It?: Yes, if you want a quick, sweet but sexy second chance romance with a Dom/sub relationship. Would I Read Something By The Author Again?: Yes. Content Warnings:
I absolutely adored this book! Not at all a surprise since I adore everything Stefanie Simpson publishes! But this book felt really specially because of the representation. Heidi is a sweet and caring soul with a learning disability and some minor execute dysfunction. This of course isn't anything to be ashamed of, but she's been mistreated for a lot of her life because of it sadly. She finally finds a lovely and doting man named Julian. Not only is he hot, but he's a caring and attentive dom who adores her.
But one day they have a misunderstanding. Poor Heidi is left on her own to struggle through some serious life mishaps, but she's amazingly strong and triumphs. I don't want to give anything away, but there are some wrenching emotional scenes and some steamy love scenes too, and a lovely HEA. And it's set during the holidays, which makes it extra festive! Highly recommend to anyone who wants a sweet, heartfelt, emotional and steamy holiday read!
This is an adult romance. A misunderstanding drives Heidi and Justin apart, but they eventually find their way back to each other.
I really enjoyed this captivating short story, and was particularly taken with Penelope, a secondary character, who helps Heidi when she is most in need.
