This is a story about a brahmin girl, who lives in the chandala’s colony. How and why she lives there and what is the revenge she seeks is the story all about.
Shatvari is a Brahmin girl who is the daughter of well-educated Sastri ji, a renowned and wise person. Due to various social limitations the happy family of Shatvari faces a lot of problems. She leaves her husband, looses her parents and her good friend, Gunjan, who is a cart driver. For all the misdoing of the society she seeks revenge against the society heads.
In a parallel story, Neel, king of Mekal, a small kingdom who is facing a much bigger kingdom of South Kosala. Neel and his friend enter the kingdom of South Kosala as students to understand their strengths and weaknesses so that they explore and win the war against South Kosala kingdom. While staying there they learn a lot about the kingdom and the revolution inside the kingdom.
What I liked in the book:
The best part of the book is the book has more of resolutions than battles. There are solutions given for the issues that people faced, which is actually nice since the better solution of resolving an issue is to discuss and find a peaceful, agreeable solution instead of war.
What I did not like:
The book has some lost links in the mid of the book, like the yaduvnashi’s role in the story is not clear. The war plan of North Kosala over Mekal and South Kosala kingdoms was not justified. However, these do not actually disturb the main stream story so these little misses really do not impact the actual story line.
My Rating – 3.5
