“After a global pandemic and the loss of those closest to me, i used a time machine to try and save the world before we run out of time. There's a problem. One wrong move can cause a ripple effect and harm rather than help.” James
James didn’t want to see his partner die like this.
But, when a mysterious disease comes and wipes out over half the human race, including his long-term partner, he knows what he must do. When he travels back in time though, James realizes that the actions he does do affect the future. But, will he be able to understand and work through all this.
It’s a race against time, against the actions he does, and when James realizes who the real patient zero is, he knew for a fact that the future would be determined by whatever move he’d make next.
Will James figure out how to eliminate the threat in a humane way? And will the actions he does really change the future for the better?
With his time machine he built as a hobbyist project years ago, James has the power to travel through time, but what he doesn’t realize, is that sometimes, when the past changes, the future can get a whole hell of a lot worse as well.
Deadly unknown disease. Kills your friends, associates, love ones Mysterious Disease threatens entire world population. Do you go back in time and find patient zero and kill them? Is there another way? If you change the past, in what ways will the future be changed?
Interesting quick read, only about 55 pages. The plot gives you some answers, but not all answers raised to satisfy putting an end to this story and going on to next.
Warning: Profanity used 20-25 times including F*Bomb. NO sex, NO gruesome violence.
The story of the time machine keeps getting better. James, the main character, goes to the past to change the future for the better, but it doesn't improve things; it makes them worse! He thought he could wipe out a deadly disease by killing patient zero before it spread, but the people in charge were Moore diabolical than even he dreamed. This story will have you hooked from the first chapter!
First time author for me! The book was interesting from the beginning but towards the end I was a little confused but hopefully the next book will shed more light!!
A book that is based on the concept that everyone of us had in our minds during the COVID-19 Pandemic, 'What If we could create a time machine and undo all the loses, Stop the virus from spreading?'
It is a small book, but don't let the number of pages mislead you. The author has done an amazing job at introducing the world to the reader.
Writing about time travel is a tricky task as there are chances of many Plot holes to pop up. But the author did a brilliant job at writing the book.
What would you if for those you love? What would happen if you messed with the past thanks to a time machine? Other than a few typos throughout the story it was coated in suspense and a good short story. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next to fix an even bigger problem.
James needs to go back in time to change just a few things. What he doesn't realize is that just a small minor change will create a major ripple effect. Get ready to journey back in time on one heck of a ride. Elisabeth Martin has swept me away with her first book and I can't wait to see what James gets himself into next. A great short read.
This is the first in a series of time-travel books and has the exciting and scary premise of trying to survive a global pandemic. A man, James, figures out a way to go back in time when he sees so many people around him dying. Humanity is in serious trouble. He must go back and find patient zero but then kill her. If anything with his plan goes wrong, the consequences are unthinkable.
When James goes after the unfortunate young lady at the root of this, people do not know his real motive and go after him. James can feel time breathing down his neck. His adventures into the past are interesting, and the people he recruits are important to his end goal. It’s a short story, but we get to know some of the characters enough to worry for them and their future. This story is painted with inventive details that push the plot forward. The world building is well done, and the moral questions brought up will have one thinking. Even if James succeeds in his task, will the future really change for the better? That is another sticky question.
This quick read was entertaining and worth a look for fans of time-travel stories.
An intriguing idea, let down by the writing and overtaken by events
You have to feel sorry for someone who writes a sci-fi novella which includes a global pandemic and releases it at the end of 2019, just before we all get to experience what that might be like. Unfortunately, while Martin intended her story to be about time travel and consequences, she did not put quite enough effort into researching and imagining how society might react and deal with such a situation, so the pandemic in this story comes across as laughably naive. There’s no panic, no conspiracy theories and political games, no superstitions, no lockdowns, masks, social distancing, or other government responses, no overwhelmed hospitals, no supply-chain problems, shortages or panic buying, just a confused population carrying on as usual while people fall down dead.
If you can get past the hokey description of the pandemic, the time travel elements of the story do have a bit more to say, as a grief-stricken inventor travels back to stop the original “patient zero’ but ends up making things worse. It’s just bad luck that the author decided to start this series with a pandemic and got it so wrong.
Having read every time travel book I could get in the past, the present and (planned) the future, I feel confident in saying this is a jewel. If you desire a complicated story with plenty of science jargon, explanation of how a time machine may work, and pages and pages of explanation of the grandfather paradox, then this is NOT the book for you. I enjoy all that stuff too, but found this little book, getting right to the story, simple plot and all-mankind threatened, go back in time, do something, come back and find it made things worse....simple, enjoyable, quick read. AND I enjoyed it enough I plan to go forward into the future and read more of the series. Give it a try. You will lose very little time in respect to the enjoyment you will gain.
Time travel with a medical twist....this is intriguing from the get-go...you're going to have to wrap your mind around this book a bit. A medical mystery needs to be solved in the past in order to protect humankind from a fatal disease in the near future. It's also complicated because of the duality of two selves, James #1 going about his business in his present and James #2 viewing events from a future lens. Unfortunately, it's hard to know what to do as James #2 begins to make alarming discoveries. He needs to avoid triggering the wrong "butterfly" or ripple effect, but events keep unfolding in unexpected ways. Fast-paced and an enjoyable read!
This was an okay book, but not much more than that. A deadly disease is running rampant and it seems the only way to stop it is to go back in time and prevent the outbreak before it gets a chance to take hold. But of course, it is not as simple as all that... The writing here all feels a bit too basic and simplistic and a lot like it is aimed at a much younger audience. I kept reading, because I wanted to know what was going to happen, but I wouldn’t say this was particularly well written and the plot feels a bit too ‘seen it all before’ for my liking.
Time travel, we all wish we could go back and change things we did in the past. Would it help? Or would it destroy? This story shows how complicated time travel can be. We may think we are doing the right thing, and changing the path of the future to a better one; but will it really be better? This is a great start to a series that I cannot wait to get back to reading. You will find this book an interesting study in future technology. I highly recommend it.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Fast paced Time travel. There's a disease that is killing all humanity , James goes back in time to find patient zero ...but can he stop the disease before its go late?. Want to read more of this series ..good storyline
This is a time travel book. It moves along very fast and is probably most suited for teens. It glosses over most of the nitty gritty details that would likely bore a younger audience but be expected by an adult.
It's a mystery with a cliffhanger ending! I hope to finish the whole story. It does need some polishing though, many typos and missing words. Reminds me of The Butterfly Effect and others of that type.
A brilliant first book in this exciting time travel end of the the world series! Can't wait to read the next one! I like the ideas, plot & characters & would recommend this writer!
A great start to a new series about time travel. James is a research scientist and has developed a time machine. When people around him start dying from a virus, he heads back in time to find patient zero to try to prevent the spread of the disease.
