Running is Chelsea Golby's escape. Literally. She runs to get away from the pain of being rejected after asking the love of her life to marry her. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, or a pint of Ben and Jerry's, she heads to the Crystal Kingdom to hang out with her sister Avery, the new Elf Queen. With Avery busy being queen, she decides to go on a run to see the magical lands. Maybe what her grandmom said was true and Chelsea has magic in her blood too.

Zaos Firefoot, the right hand man to King Gorwin, knows his people are fading out. It’s too bad he can’t tell the dumb-ass leader exactly what he thinks about how he rules the kingdom. As much as he hates it, Zaos does what he's told. Until the day he’s sent out to question and kill a light elf. When Zaos finds out that beautiful light elf is his mate, all bets are off with the killing thing. He'll protect Chelsea with his last breath if necessary. Afterall, she's his.

The surprises don't stop at finding a mate. Someone forgot to tell Zaos he's the son of a dragon and a Dark Elf who are mortal enemies. The drama explodes until the realm is at risk and everyone's life is at stake. But Chelsea isn't one to sit idle and watch. She’s about to learn that saving a world can get a girl killed. And it'll destroy Zaos to know there’s nothing he can do to stop her.

I get why this book exists. It's the transition book to introduce a new trilogy, a spin-off called "Crystal Kingdom, New Worlds". These books will be starring Avery and Chelsea's cousins.

I just feel like Chelsea, the heroine of this book, popped up seemingly out of nowhere. Was she even mentioned in Avery's story? I honestly don't remember.

Frankly, I could've skipped this book because the storyline, imo, feels so forced.

Love this series!

This is Chelsea and Zaos's story. Chelsea is just coming out of a breakup that left her humiliated and broken hearted. Zaos is a dark elf who isn't what he appears to be. When Chelsea decides to go visit her sister in the fae realm all she is looking for is down rest and relaxation. When Zaos sees the woman he knows immediately she is his mate. With the battle between the dragons and dark elves getting worse can these two find themselves among the rubble? When Zaos finally tells his mate there truth about himself will she run? Can Chelsea get the dragons and elves to work together? I absolutely loved this book. I loved Zaos and Chelsea. I love the fae world I can't wait for the spin off series.

Always anticipated new release from the talented Milly Taiden, she brings us Fire King book 4 of The Crystal Kingdom Series. Milly being true to her style gives us sass personified in Chelsea a no-nonsense beauty that will need all her talent as a mediator to pull off a truce between some long angry folks. Zaos will have your pages overheating, ah but he brings mystery to the mix and when chem sparks between Chelsea and Zaos stand by to stand by. It's the easy good vs bad but rides the rails of a true fairy tale. Dragons and Dark Elves oh my. magic and fairy realm oh my. A mix of detail, passion, and heat, a bit of scary and magic!! If you're a believer in book magic grab Milly's latest release and enjoy.

Enter a world on a different plane where elves, dragons and magic are real. Though Chelsea was raised on the Earth realm she has elven blood and magic in her veins. When she visits the magical plane she finds distrust, unrest and love. This is a sweet tale of love in troubled times. I really love this authors heroines. They are stronger than they know and smarter than they think. I really loved Chelsea and Zaos’ tale and look forward to new adventures

This is Zaos and Chelsea's story . Chelsea is not feeling the love right now after being rejected she heads to visit with sister and tries to find out more about herself . Zaos is so fed up with things and wishes he could just tell his leader what is needed to be done but instead does as he is told and heads to learn what he can and to kill the light elf . Every thing can change on a dime and let me tell you it does ! I adore books that have your emotions pulled and this one will do it ! We have a strong woman and a male that will stand by each other no matter what ! This is well written and recommended to all ! I was gifted this story and just had to leave a review because it is so good !

This is a cute paranormal story, but it was just a bit too far-fetched for me (even for a fantasy!). It was an entertaining read, though, and I liked that it featured elves and dragons, instead of just the usual aliens or shifters. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.

The thing that I found the most unbelievable was everyone on the alien world where Chelsea went spoke English. No mention was made of them having universal translators or anything like that, but she was able to talk to all of them immediately? That was a bit ridiculous.

I did like that Chelsea was such a take charge person, and didn't seem to have much fear of the elves and dragons. It did get her into trouble a few times, but it was fun to read. I also enjoyed how she was always using human slang, and how most of the elves and dragons had no idea what she meant a lot of the time.

I liked both Chelsea and Zaos, and thought they were good together. I also liked some of the secondary characters.

Even though this story was a bit unbelievable, I will continue the series -- because it was a fun read.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Yet another unbelievable romance where they fall in love after knowing each other for less than a day.

Have you ever seen a typo that takes you so completely out of the story that you have to reassess if you even like what you read up to this point? That happens here. A few times. I mean, the book is littered with small typos that I can get over, then we get to page 50:

"“There are no parents,” he said as if that was a normal thing.
Wait. She didn’t understand the plural “we.”"

I know that this is taken out of context, but trust me, more context won't help. Was this book even proof read?

Carrying on, we get to the monstrosity on pgs. 53-54. There is 5 whole paragraphs repeated, with a slight difference as if it was meant to be a second draft. Five whole paragraphs. How do you miss that?

Aside from the awful typos, I really didn't like Chelsea. Her and her cousins have no respect for this new place and laugh it off as "lol we can't take them anywhere." Love that. Also Chelsea has so much attitude, mostly unprovoked:

"His lips twisted. “Yes, but they don’t live in a demon’s hellhole with nothing but dirt around them. They’re not worried about their children dying from rocks smashing them in their beds at night. They are not concerned about their magic vanishing.”
Chelsea stepped back, searching for something to say. “Sounds like you have some issues to work on.”"

So disrespectful. Some might find that funny or endearing, not my cup of tea. The other characters are just unrealistic and child like.

There so many inconsistencies. Like Chelsea willingly stays with the dark elves while her cousins are...what? Trapped and the light elf village because Chelsea has the stones? Or did someone else send them back? Why are they not mentioned when Chelsea first makes contact with Avery? Another one that really distracts me is the grandmom was like "Don't tell ppl that your a human," then Chelsea makes it very clear that she's not from around here every chance she gets.

Falling off

This one took me a while to get through. I usually finish Milly Taiden's books within a couple of hours if I have a clear schedule. But this book seemed out of place and like a scramble/push to continue a series that could have ended at book three. There were jumps in knowledge that hadn't been addressed in previous books, which left holes in the storyline because they weren't effectively explained. When I say holes, I mean things from Chelsea's awareness of her mixed race heritage to Grandma's ability to go back and forth between dimensions to elf characters understanding the terms and phrases specific to Earth. The latter matters considering the previous three books have everyone including the male mates completely baffled by how the women speak, granted it seems no matter what world you're in sexual references are universal. The elf characters were inconsistent in what they understood and didn't, even using words that they seemingly shouldn't have known. There's also a serious editing issue: an entire scene is repeated. The only difference is the second time it's in italics. So maybe I'm shifting interests / expectations of writing and looking for more depth, but I know Taiden can do better. I've seen it. Unfortunately, many times I felt there was no way the characters, particularly the women, were believably real. Adults talk with much more varied complexity and variety in their speech. Finally, there's at least one moment where the story completely contradicts another part of the story. I can't remember specifically where though I feel it's near the end, but it definitely should have been caught by the editor. Along with a lot of other errors throughout the book; it's like whoever edited this hit a point and just stopped trying, figuring people wouldn't pay attention anymore: I did because the shift made small problems that much more obvious.

Fire King is the fourth book in the Crystal Kingdom series. In this book we're introduced to Avery's step sister Chelsea & dark elf Zaos & follow them on their path to happily ever after.

Chelsea is a runner. She runs to clear her head & get away the pain of rejection. When her grandmother offers her a chance to go see her sister, she jumps at the chance. When she decides to go for a short run, she ends up much farther from her sister, way too close to danger & smack into an elf that says she's his mate.

Zaos is second in command to the dark elf king, even though he privately doesn't agree with everything his king does. Zaos still does what his king demands until he realizes one of those demands is to kill the woman that is his mate. He'll do anything to protect her, but will she reject him when he tells her the truth about himself?

In this book we meet some new humans that travel to the Crystal Kingdom including Chelsea, the female lead in this story. She's strong & level headed but seems a little off balance somehow. Zaos, the male lead, is a typical warrior type hero that comes with a bit of an inferiority complex. The supporting cast is well crafted including including an adorable little hero-to-be & the deliciously evil Tel. The story line was interesting - a bit slow to start but picking up speed & excitement as it goes. It also includes three more women that just might be appearing in future additions to the series. All in all, this is a great read for a quiet evening.

Great story - Chelsea just wanted to visit her sister Avery and her Elf King with her cousins. Love was the last thing on her mind as she had recently been dumped by her beau. After she proposed. Oh well. She found the king of her heart and he's no weakling. Protective and loving, Zaos will have to keep her safe from the other Dark Elves and her own foolhardiness. But Chelsea is determined to help the wretched king even if he doesn't deserve it. The people deserve better and her gorgeous elf will not sway her from her self-appointed task. No matter how good a kisser he is.

A cast of mostly great characters, even down to the baddies who played their parts with gusto. The MCs have instant chemistry, setting the sheets on fire with their passion. Little Ryo was so sweet, standing up to Tel to protect Chelsea. Tel got what he deserved, though I wish Zaos had dragged out his downfall a little more. T'would have been no more than the bully deserved for the wrongs he did commit and those he had planned. Turns out King Goran was cranky 'cause he longed for his mate. He found his perfect companion with the enemies that weren't - the dragons. Guess he shouldn't have been so stubborn about maintaining pure Elf bloodlines. He'd have been happy a few hundred years sooner. Food for thought.

I listened to the Audible version. Great narration.

Book 4 of Crystal Kingdom by Milly Taiden
I will admit I wasn’t expecting more in this series and I wasn’t sure how MT was going to keep me interested but I should have trust one of my favourite authors to always satisfied me.
This book is about Avery half sister and her cousins visiting and getting into trouble basically.
Chelsea is Avery half sister (even though I don’t like that description) and she visits her but while on a run she travels further than planned and ends up in dark elf part which is slowly dying and collapsing. While there she finds a child and while trying to figure out what to do with him dark elf’s find her and think she’s kidnapping him so they kidnap her. That when Zaos find out she’s his mate and everything gets massively complicated between them. I love that Zaos doesn’t just mate her straight away he courts her and tries to get to know her before officially mate but he does mess up along way.
Absolutely loved this little gem which I wasn’t expecting and now so looking forward to finding out what happens to cousins.
MT is always a winner for me. If you love YA MT has started writing the Crystal Kingdom as a YA Fae Queen is first book definitely check it out.

This was a nice addition to the Crystal Kingdom series. Chelsea loves to run, it's her escape. When she visits her sister in another realm, she discovers running in a new realm might have some interesting surprises. Zaos is a dark elf, second only to the king. His people are dying and under constant threat, but his world is about to get more complicated when he meets the woman he's been waiting over a century to appear. I liked the flow of the story and the connection between Chelsea and Zaos. Their relationship was really fast, but since it's a fated mates trope it was expected. I wasn't surprised by most of the "secrets" in the story, I mostly saw them coming, but they were still entertaining.

I would recommend reading the previous 3 books before reading this one, especially Elf King as Avery makes an appearance in this story. It will be interesting to see what comes next in the series.

Chelsea & Zaos

Chelsea missed her sister. The one who is now a Queen in another world. Her magic grandmother has the same idea and sends her along with her three cousins for a visit as a birthday surprise for the new queen. The visit turns into a dangerous adventure--meeting a super hottie who says she's his mate is one of the benefits. Maybe.

Secrets. Old feuds. Misunderstandings. Curses. All combined make for people who suffer life-threatening situations. As a mediator in her other life can Chelsea help find answers and arrange a truce to discuss the problems?

This is another adventure and romance in a Fae world. The world-building is amazing. The characters fun or evil. I enjoyed Chelsea and her fire dealing with the Fae and Dragon shifters who were not ready for a fierce female. A wonderful love story. Don't miss it.

Chelsea was happy for her half-sister. Really she was. She was now a Queen for fracks sake! In another Realm! That's what she was getting used to! But on a visit to Avery and Tylen, Chelsea manages to get caught up in a turf war between Dragons and Dark Elves! She never thought her work as a Divorce Mediator would be used this way!

Zaos has all sorts of delicious secrets. He comes from an actual love union and...well he has more than a few talents. And just why does he sound more "Earthling" than the rest of his kind???

I loved Zaos and Chelsea together. Chelsea is the calm centre to the whirlwind that is Zaos. But he too is a calm voice among his kind. But it just goes to show that racism and bigotry isn't just Earthbound sadly. Great little read!

This is Book 4 in the Crystal Kingdom series. Chelsea’s sister is a Queen in another world. Her grandmother sends her and 3 cousins for a visit. Things are way different there than they are on earth! She is even supposed to have a little magic of her own but she has no idea what it could be. She’s gone for a run that takes her a long way from the village. There she gets in trouble trying to take a lost little boy home. Trouble isn’t too bad though because she does meet Zaos there. This is such a good book! I couldn’t put it down until I had read it all so I could see what happened. It’s definitely an adventure to experience. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Booksprout

Chelsea and her cousins went to the Crystal Kingdom for her sister Avery's birthday. While Avery was busy, Chelsea went for a run- to burn off steam- of betrayal by her ex....but bring part fae, she has magic-making her lightning fast. Before she knows it, she's gone far beyond the lands of the light fae, and into "enemy" territory. Captured by the dark fae, thinking she was there for nefarious reasons, Zaos, the king's fight hand man is sent to kill her- the fae. Meeting Chelsea, Zaos finds her- his mate. She's not exactly what she seems, but neither is he. Another fabulous book in the Crystal Kingdom series by Milly Taiden!

This is part 4 of a series and while it can be read alone it is so much better as the group of books. I have to say this book surprised me in all the good ways. Chelsea leaves earth to go visit her sister and her new mate one of the Elf Kings. While there she goes for a run and fate steps in. I knew I would like her tale and I did so much. I love how the author gives us something to think about as far as our world goes. This is a must read and i am looking forward to reading more of this series. I read/review as a thank you to the author for their gift of words.

Loved it! I love to read books from Milly Taiden. This is the fourth book in The Crystal Kingdom series. This is Chelsea and Zaos's story. Chelsea is just coming out of a breakup. So she decides that she needs to visit her sister in the fae world. Zaos is a dark elf who isn't what he appears to be. This story has it all from passion, and heat, a bit of scary and magic!! I loved Zaos and Chelsea. I could not put it down at all. You NEED to grab this story. It's an amazing journey in this series. Keep up the amazing work Milly! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Ok so the book was well written as always. The characters were interesting. One hiding who he is, the other also on defense from her emotions. Now his character was interesting- 1/2 dark elf 1/2 dragon and not knowing he was the actual key for a truce. Neither race was aware of the issues each group was facing and she was the fighter who didn't give up despite her emotions in getting everything fixed as that's just what she does. Curious as to what the next book has in store and will fall into place.

Chelsea visits her sister Avery in the Crystal Kingdom and discovers her own magical connection.
Her magic manifests in her ability to run at lightspeed.
And it leads her to her mate Zaos.
It also leads her into trouble, right into a feud between the dark elves and the dragons.
Chelsea uses her work experience as a mediator to defuse the feud and bring the two groups together.
Chelsea also helps Zaos uncover more information on his parentage.

Zaos is definitely one of my favorites. Having a secrect about his past that he feels no one will understand he carries around the burden on his sleeve. But he is a kind a gentle soul with some serious power behind it. Chelsea is a mystery all within herself that will have you rooting for her from day 1. Everyone loves a strong willed woman and Chelsea is definitely 1 from her run with Tel you will love her character. This story is a good read with all kinds of twist and turns love it.

Quite amusing and enjoyable.
Found the heroine Chelsea believable and likeable. Zaos was just yummy.
These two being mates really will bring balance between the light and dark elves and I loved how Chelsea sorted out the dark lands.
This was better than I expected. I read book one and didn’t find it to be what I wanted to read. Having read book 4, I may just have to go back and read the intervening two books.
This is my honest review of this book kindly offered to me.

Enjoyable and entertaining read and a great addition to the series. I loved the nonsense heroine and the alpha males who loved them in spite of their strange human slang it made for a very interesting read. Add-in action, suspense, and of course steamy romance and you have a helluva read. Love these no nonsense ladies and the men who have chosen to love them in spite of their strange language lol. With a recently broken heart Chelsea is given the gift of getting away from it all and visiting a whole new world. Zaos has been told of a mate but when suddenly blown over by it he now has to fight to hold on to it.

Way, way too nice

Zaos let Tel get away with a whole lot concerning his mate, even the unthinkable. (no spoilers here unfortunately). Although I liked the story, not loved, I have to leave something to the imagination and I have to say Zaos isn't much of a hero in my book, but this story has it's funny moments, so that makes up for the lack of heroes in this read.

I liked the Fire King. Chelsea is visiting her sister, the Queen of the Light Elves when she suddenly finds herself captive of the Dark Elves. Luckily her mate, Zaos finds her quickly.

Some danger to Chelsea from another dark elf who is jealous of Zaos but she is saved and she also manages to help bring the dark elves and dragons together.
