Unable to escape crushing grief, Kate needs an outlet to channel her anguish. Turning to Luca, she pleads to be trained to fight like a warrior, but such a thing is in direct violation of Shade's commands.
If she can get Luca to agree, her training must be done in secret.
Unfortunately, any training is too little too late. Intent on crushing Shade, the Aries coven is pressing in on him from all sides. Shade's only weakness is Kate, who becomes their perfect bait.
While Kate has been made stronger, as long as she's mortal, her life is in peril. But going through the turning to become immortal would be a big gamble to her survival.
Emily Bex is the International Best Selling author of the epic six book Medici Warrior Series. As she says, “Why start small?” She worked for over twenty years in marketing, developing ad campaigns, catalogs, product launches and promotional literature. She figured if she could write creatively about products, then surely she could write something about these characters that were rattling around inside her brain. She currently lives in Virginia, but has used her extensive love of travel, both foreign and domestic, to create the backdrop for her characters to play out their story.
"...an eternity didn't feel like enough time to share it all, or to express to him how deeply she loved him. She'd die for him. She'd kill for him. There was nothing she'd ever let come between them..."
In The Turning, Emily Bex picks up her epic vampire romance where she left off in the Blood Covenant, with Kate fighting the demons of Hell to complete her journey to immortality and remain forever with her mate, Shade, the King of the Medici Warriors. But their path to fulfilling the formal mating ceremony is filled with treachery from within, and another Master vampire may soon lay destruction to all Shade holds dear...
The Medici Warrior series is filled with all the drama, action and smexxy romance I've come to expect, and I can't wait for the next installment! Would recommend to fans of this genre!
Another winner! I loved this book as much as the first one! It is cram packed with action, adventure, love, pain, and almost every other emotion you can conjure up, not to mention off the charts sex scenes (blush). I had a hard time laying it down, drawn to these characters and their story! It is very well written, the story-line is intense, and you can 'feel' the characters emotions! I am already well into book three and there has never been a dull moment in any of the books so far! My only concern is that there are supposed to be three more books to this series, if I understand correctly, and I am going to hate having to wait on the next three! Emily Bex has one heck of an imagination, and I, for one, am impressed! Hurry up and write, Emily!
Really enjoyed this book 1&2 I can not wait for the rest of the series I loved the passion and the love they shared for each other The description of the family home, winery & landscape, Italy was so vivid it allowed to see it in my minds eye I loved the experience.
In book two of the series, Kate and Shade continue their romance. Rissa’s old lover makes an appearance and causes much havoc to get her back from her current mate, Alec. Rogues are on the loose everywhere and are coming out in high numbers. Shade must bring in more help, his own warriors to help keep them in check. He is still working for Alec, and they wonder who is behind the rogue attacks. Kate has made Luca promise to train her in the art of fighting behind Shade’s back. She does not get to see too much of Shade because he is on nightly patrol with the rest of his warriors. Her friend Shannon and Luca have special vibes about one another…but can and will she accept his world? The time for the turning is coming fast and Kate must be ready for the transition. This book has more action, more love interests, and delivers another side to many characters found in the first one. Plus, there is a war occurring where no one knows who the mastermind is! All of these things are tied to one woman and one man! The cost of betrayal will come high, many underestimate Kate, new warriors arrive, new killings happen, and so much intrigue…you will not want to miss the latest installment of the Medici saga! Emily Bex managed to outdo herself with book two of the series! I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
There is something to be said about this series....IT IS OUTSTANDING! Emily Bex has raised the bar high on paranormal in the genre. The second installment is filled with everything you could possibly imagine but more importantly....you can't put it down. Be prepared to stay awake all night...and it will be a staple you will read again and again. Thank heavens there are six books in this series because I definitely NEED these characters, these fantastic journeys and this vampire world. Action packed with stunning and hilarious characters. An epic love story that builds bolder and stronger with each installment. JOB WELL DONE! I recommend this entire series...holding my breathe for the next installment.
This is the second book in the Medici series. I think that I like this one better than the first one! There are so many emotional twists and turns. The reader feels like they are actually going through the same things that one of the main characters Kate are going through. I feel much more connected to the characters after reading the second book. Emily Bex will pull you into this world that she has created and you will love it!! Another awesome read! I can't wait for the next one in the series!!
I’ll admit. It took me... like a week after reading this, after cradling it to my chest and trying to digest the saga that I’ve been reading.
I lived in book 1. Happily. I own a hard bound copy of it. But 2... two wrapped its fingers around my heart and I was afraid to put it down.
Follow Shade and Kate into the world Emily has created, because even though there is beauty there is also danger, horror...can they overcome the odds? Will they have there happily ever after?
This is a hot page Turner that will keep you up long into the night. An intricate plot keeps your interest and the characters seem to come to life and jump right off the pages. The steamy scenes are enough to make you forget where you are and what you are doing. You definitely hate coming back to reality when the last page is finished. I can't wait for book 3 for the continuation of this not to be missed vampire saga.
Share Shade and Kates story. Shade has to turn Kate so that she can be safe from enjmies. When they have a disagreement it's awesome how they talk and work things out. When Kate looses her baby she needs something to take her mind off of jt. She starts training like the vampire she will become. In secret Lucas starts training her. The loving sex they have will have you wanting more. I got very hot just reading. A really great book to read
Emily Bex have outdone herself. If possible, The Turning is even better than her first book. I loved seeing Kate grow as she overcame her grief at the loss of her son. The book may be long but it keeps you engaged and wanting more with every turn of the page. The introduction to new characters just builds the suspense more. A highly recommend read! I can't wait for book three to continue immersing myself in the lives of these characters.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is second book on The Medici Warrior Series. Kate and Shade continue their romance. This story has more action, more love interests and you will see other sides of characters found book one. There were things I didn’t see coming. I really feel it’s one of those books you have to experience for yourself. I will say the characters are phenomenal, they are all so well written.
Totally awesome read. This 2nd book has taken everything from the first book up a notch. The characters interaction is superior. I love where the series started and looking forward with anticipation to the rest of the series. In other words, I CAN'T WAIT.!!!!!! I will recommend this serier to everyone.
I absolutely love this series and this is my favorite book in the series. Its got everything love, sex ,danger, betrayal, hot vampire with intrigue and mysteries can't wait for the next one .
Once again I couldn't imagine this book being shortened and still give everything that it does...and every single word had me craving more!!! I can't wait for the rest of the series!!! Happy reading : )
It's been done again! Kate & Shade are an irreplaceable couple. You just can not get enough of them. I absolutely devoured this book, in one sitting. You dont want their story to end.
I loved watching the characters develop and evolve. Some you love, some you hate, but all are interesting and well written. Looking forward to the next volume in the series.
The Turning $4.99 / KU 607 pgs ***** 6/1/24 Shade & Kate
After the loss of her baby, she fought long and hard to get past the grief. Once she did that, this book starts with her determination to become physically strong and to learn to defend herself and her mate, Shade. Luca agreed to teach her after she begged, even though Shade had forbidden him to do so earlier. Shade treated her as a porcelain doll so she knew Luca had to be the one to teach her to fight. I loved every single minute of her training too. She worked so hard, even being mortal, she made tremendous progress in her “little warrior” training, as Luca called it.
Even though I hate Rissa and Alec, there was quite a bit of story with them in this book. I did like having some background, it made Rissa a little more tolerable, not much though. We are introduced to Max, her boyfriend before Alec took her from him because he refused to turn her into a vampire, but he did love her. This created much conflict with the high and mighty Rissa and Alec. Jacks, another new character that is hired as Rissa’s protector brings Rissa’s worst sides out. Alec is still a total JERK.
Luca & Shannon, (Kate’s best friend) became closer and their love story unfolds for the beginning of their romance. I couldn’t really get into their relationship as much as the others for some reason. The war with the rogue vampire group became more volatile. The hunt for their Master, Angel, was very difficult as no other masters or warriors have ever heard that name. Angel, had a spy so to speak that kept him one step ahead of Shade and his warriors.
Shade believes he killed his son to save Kate. Since he took the powder from the pills that the fake Dr. gave her in the previous book and replaced it with sugar because it was killing Kate. He has much grief and sadness that he had to choose that action. Kate is not aware of any of that. Kate’s turning was so good, so well written. I have a feeling she will be more than just a turned human in the stories to come. I think she will very strong and have more than just one special ability, or I hope she is and does. They have a lot to prove to the vampires that have little respect for turned humans.
“Lover” still irked me every time Kate said it, which is a lot. This book was very good. There are some slow spots and plenty of sex scenes but overall, I loved this 2nd book in the series. I love how long the books are because I can just settle in and know it won’t end in just 250-300 pages!
2.5 Stars!! The Turning is better than The Blood Covenant. Not by much!! This story seems to have 4 different storylines running throughout it. With 5 couples. Alec and Rissa switch partners throughout the story Rissa and Max, and Alec with Jacqueline. There are the main couple Shade and Kate and Shannon and Luca. Having this many couples leaves you with a choppy read. I also, dislike Alec and Rissa, when are they going to get there just due for being responsible for killing Shade and Kates unborn baby "Little Warrior"? When are Shade and Kate going to find out that Alec and Rissa were the culprits responsible for the baby's death and not them?
I keep reading this series because I want to meet "Little Warrior". I think he will be reincarnated and reborn to Shade and Kate. I want to me meet Sophie who has not even been conceived yet but communicates with her parents.
I also, have a problem with the trashy elements of the writing such as Alec referring to Rissa as Baby Girl. Alec and Rissa having detailed sex with different partners. I dislike the cigarette smoking YUCK. How can you drink wine but not eat food? Some of this makes no sense. I find Shade not very bright a few minutes after detailing his plans for the night with Kate to Thomas. They are attacked by 19 vampires who knew they were alone in the house. But Shade doesn't put it together that the only one who knew was Thomas!! He blames someone else!
This one was actually better than the first. Not a whole star better. But better. The pace was better, it was less repetitive, and there was some conflict! Yay! Things still went entirely too easy for Kate. Warrior trained on the DL in a couple weeks. Tired after one mile of running but pushes to five… then does ten miles the next evening. 🤨 Still. I like Luca and Shannon better as a couple than Shade and Kate. Rissa’s drama was decent. And the turning itself was surprisingly descriptive and interesting. Then there were little details that bothered me. Medici crest? WHY NOT DESCRIBE THE ACTUAL MEDICI CREST?!? We don’t need a different Medici crest! There were numerous typos and a few continuity errors. Alec says Rissa doesn’t know about the place in Paris and he’d like to keep it that way after giving it to Shade, but later discusses it with Rissa as if it was already promised to her and she’s sad to lose it because she has plans for it. 🤷♀️ Anywat, this is like a 2.5 star, not quite a 3. I cant justify a 3. Where the first one was more like a 1.5 star with a grade curve to 2 for the sake of Medicis.
A chapters long build up to a siege at Shade’s mansion ended anticlimactic. A gruesome, battle-hardened villain was introduced to the reader, only to be killed immediately off-screen by a cross bow.
I would describe a subplot featuring Ryssa and Max as bipolar. One minute she loves him, the next she doesn’t. Her final choice was disappointing and a let down. More wasted book space.
Overall I found Kate whinny (“Lover, stay with me!”) and weak-minded.
The endearments continue to be nauseating: Lover, Savage Lover, Savage Warrior, My Walking Sin (wtf does that even mean?)
I did find the descriptions of the vampire beasts interesting. And the “turning” had unique components vs other traditional vampire lore.
The book has no real ending it just stops.

I absolutely loved the continuation of Shade and Kate’s story. It ended on a cliffhanger so I’m glad book 3 is soon to be out. The story has well developed characters that experience twists and turns that are definitely unexpected. I have enjoyed following Kate’s character from being Shade’s boyfriend to actually becoming Queen Kate. It was great book that took me through a roller coaster of emotions. I loved Kate and Shade more and really became attached to Luca and Shannon. Luca finding love and being allowed to pursue Shannon made the book even better. It ended in a spot that felt unfinished and I need to know how it ends (book 3 is preordered). It is absolutely fantastic and worth the time to get lost in this story.

This is book two and continues the love journey of King Warrior Shade and his mortal mate Kate. I am enjoying the pace of the romance and happenings of this couple. All the main characters return to continue this romantic drama. Alec is still working towards his bid to become President. Larissa, Alec’s mate, is trying to recover from the rogue’s attack. Luca is happy with Shannon. I have to just add that they are well matched. Marco is so protective of Shade; it’s hilarious and honorable all at the same time. The enemy is still at large and most unknown except for a few traitors. Even though the story continues in book three, there is a happy for now ending. Read On!
The Turning: Book Two in The Medici Warrior Series
First, I love the fact that this was a lengthy book! This is the kind of book where you can never get enough and the Authors attention to details will really make you a believer. I have read numerous Vampire books but this one has so much detail in it that you actually “live” in the story. I hated to see it end but hope the author will write more books from these characters. You feel like you are leaving a friend when the book has ended. This is a MUST READ book for all supernatural book lovers. You sure won’t be disappointed in this series. You will want more just like I do!
This story has me so wrapped up in it... Shade the vampire King/Warrior has found his Queen! Kate is a mortal that fell so hard for her vampire warrior! They go through so much before she is even turned! Females vampires are not happy that this little red haired mortal has caught Shade! With her protector Luca, she learns to use weapons and learns her strength. She's going to need it as she becomes Queen. What others don't know is all the staff and warriors that have dealt with her already love their Queen! I've got to read on and see where Kate goes from here and where does Luca and Shannon go? NEEDS MORE STARS!!!
This is book 2 of this series and it is explosive! It does tell a remarkably visual and stunning story. I am afraid I might start word vomiting if I say to much! But I suspect that if you have not heard of Miss Bex yet? Well you are in for one heck of a surprise! This series has depth and is created with finesse and adds a bit of mystery and suspense within this gripping and evolved story! Get this series! It has what every vampire reader wants and needs! It is a saga worth your time and your love!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really love this series. Yes a couple of things get on my nerves. When the author describes teleportation like flying when it's clearly not. Plus the nickname"Lover" is still grating. I want everything perfect in the books I choose. Very few ever obtain a 5 star from me. These books are very close to that 5 star. The small things that bother me does not take away the fact this is a great series. Everyone should love this and I plan to check out all the authors books.
Still really enjoying the plot of this series. The dialogue still tends to ramble like in the first book, and there’s a lot of fluff. I think the only thing that has annoyed me is the intense habitual jealousy of the FMC. Like I get being jealous of old girlfriends and I understand she’s been cheated on before, but at some point she has to accept that MMC has given her zero reason to mistrust, and neither have the women around her. It’s too much and is cringe to see.
Book two is much like book one. Great storyline but a whole lot of unnecessary words. There’s also grammatical errors, missing words, scene descriptions that don’t line up with a previous scene (like in one scene she’s wearing a skirt that the MMC looks up and in the next scene they’re both fighting to take her jeans off), and the constant repeating of the same phrases and descriptions. Besides that, this series seems interesting and the characters fun. I plan to continue the series.
