Rebecca Stravokraus was the premier publicist in the professional sports. She was extremely smart, capable, and could spin a story like a spider spins its web. She also didn’t lack in confidence.
But there was one thing she couldn’t do.
L.O.V.E.
It was the ultimate dirty word, the one emotion that made men, women, and all variations in between turned into possessed, insane beings.
Humanity was not built to love. They were built to work, to play hockey, to fuc—
Cough. To have a great time between the sheets.
That was enough—it had been enough.
Until Kevin declared that Rebecca was what he wanted, until they spent several glorious nights in bed together . . . until she began to feel.
That couldn’t be. Not now. Not in the future. Not ever.
But Kevin had decided on her and if there was one thing she’d learned about stubborn, alpha hockey players, it was that they didn’t give up.
And Rebecca had to admit that in this case she didn’t want Kevin to give up.
USA Today bestselling author, Elise Faber, loves chocolate, Star Wars, and hockey (the order depending on the day and how well her team—the Sharks!—are playing). She and her husband also play as much hockey as they can squeeze into their schedules, so much so that their typical date night is spent on the ice. Elise changes her hair color more often than some people change their socks, loves sparkly things, and is the mom to two exuberant boys. She lives in Northern California. Seriously, I have got to find the time to #bingeread this series from the beginning!!
First, I’d like to say that nothing pleases me more than a cover that delivers. This cover delivered in spades! When I look at a cover like that, I expect serious heat. Even tho this journey is a slow burn, these two sizzled and it just made me so damn happy! However, that’s not what made this story stand out. THE FEELS PEOPLE! What an incredible story of courage and passion and living and breaking down barriers and happiness. SO MUCH HAPPINESS! Man, you guys are really missing out if you don’t grab this one :)
Breakout by Elise Faber is book 6 in the Gold Hockey series. This is Rebecca and Kevin's story. Wow this book has alot that will have you glued to the read- age gap (Woman 34/man 24), sports romance (hockey), slow burn romance, angst, twists, heartbreaking love, passion, tons of feels, push/pull, emotional rollercoaster ride that will take you places. This is in a series but can be read as a standalone book. Really enjoyed Rebecca and Kevin's love story. Started off slow but wow did the story pick up the pace. Loved the chemistry and the sweet HEA.
Elise Faber I predict that you and I are going to have a long and beautiful relationship from this book forward. “Breakout” was my first book by you and it most certainly will not be my last. It ticked ALL my boxes (and some I didn’t even know I had): ✔️Reverse age gap ✔️Sports romance (specifically hockey - the best kind) ✔️Slow burn ✔️Sexy as sin hockey playing god ✔️Strong, opinionated, ballsy heroine ✔️Supportive friends and family ✔️Toe curling happily ever after. All this plus so much more. But what makes this such a phenomenal read is how fantastically well written this book is. The words jump off the page and you can’t stop yourself from gobbling them up, in fact, I did not put this book down until I finished it. TBR this book right away and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I usually don't read older women with younger men, but this one was so good! the hero is 10 years younger than the heroine, but you couldn't really feel the difference because he wasn't super mature and because they didn't mention every single time that she was older.
if you would like to give a chance to this kind of romance, this is a good one to see if this trope is for you.
I think this was one of those $0.99 Chirp deals that I'm so fond of jumping on. You had me at "hockey romance". 😂
Rebecca is the PR person for a professional hockey team and is very vocal about how good she is to her job. Kevin is a 24 year old hockey player for the Gold and knows exactly what he wants - 34 year old Rebecca. She's not interested in some young kid, but Kevin is persistent and Rebecca decides to give him a shot, but can he handle her big secret?
This felt like a short story and not so much a novel. It was maybe 3 plus hours long and I felt like I kept waiting for a plot that was more than "will she let him in or not?" Meh.
Breakout is more than just a May/December romance. It is a journey of self discovery that tugs at your emotions. Faber delves deep into the insecurities that plague the human psyche. Through the eyes of Rebecca and Kevin, we learn what it means to be courageous, how it feels to be vulnerable and what it means to fall in love. From sensory overload to impactive emotion, Breakout is in a class all it's own.
I have loved this series and this one was no different. Rebecca is not okay with the fact that she is 10 years older than Kevin and he wants her. This book was one heck of a emotional roller coaster that had my head spinning. Poor Rebecca has been through so much and she doesn't think she wants Kevin to know but she finally breaks down and tells him and he takes it in stride and he truly only wants her. And he proves it over and over. Super sweet ending!
Book 6 in the Gold Hockey series where each one can be read as a standalone. An older woman/younger man romance that will hit all the right spots. Loved Rebecca and Kevin. They were such a great couple. I really need to go back and read the rest of this series. Great story.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Kevin has had his eye on PR manager Rebecca since his rookie year and after signing a contract extension he knows the time is right to go for it. Rebecca is a little gun shy when it comes to love and seems to think the ten year age difference is a problem. I enjoyed watching their relationship bloom into a friendship and more. Rebecca tried to shut Kevin down on every turn but he remained persistent and they found their HEA. Another hockey hit for Elise Faber!
As a fan of sports romances I was thrilled to discover this new-to-me author and her sweet and sensual tale featuring an older woman fighting her attraction to a younger man determined to win her over. Add in appealing friends and teammates and you’ll find a book series that will put a smile on your face while falling for a slew of charming and endearing hockey players.
Rebecca Stravokraus has been in the background of this series from almost the beginning so it’s about time readers learn her backstory...and what a heartbreaking backstory she has. The loss of her parents and her broken hopes for the future have closed off her heart and keeps her focused on work. Work she can control and with her put-together looks no one will figure out her past or feel sorry for her. She just wants to keep going but it’s clear that the team’s newest player has no intention of being ignored. With each turn of the page he takes her on a merry chase that slowly wore her down in a heartwarming journey to HEA. Through it all Rebecca’s a likable heroine with friends reminiscent of my own friends with both playful and supportive moments. She’s a strong-willed heroine who stood by her parents too, but when it comes to herself she’s determined to take care of things on her own and each time Kevin did something caring for her it threw her for a loop while completely charming me.
Kevin Hayes is at the top of the hockey ranks, a young man in age but wise beyond his years as he has decided that he’s waited for Rebecca long enough. The death of his father may have helped drive him to winning The Cup, but it’s his parents long-time marriage that’s pushing him to finally tell Rebecca how he feels. Her feelings regarding his being ten years younger have her pushing him away while he forges ahead with sweet words and deeds that show her she’ll never be alone as long as he’s around. She may feel unworthy of a HEA with him, but Kevin knows what he wants and as he won her over so too did I become enamored with him. On a whole Kevin’s sweet with a kind heart he’s not afraid to unleash. He loves his mother but is quite talented when it comes to flirtations in this quick yet satisfying romance.
Though this is the sixth installment in the Gold Hockey series it stands strongly on its own courtesy of its likable main couple. It’s a fast-paced read with very little angst, a slow-burn journey teeming with sexual tension that kept me rooting for this pair to finally couple up. I enjoyed glimpses of previous characters, and a few yet to find their own HEA, in this tale with action both on the ice and off that I definitely recommend.
Publicist Rebecca Stravokraus lives and breaths for her work, when she isn't in the office working, it often follows her home. She knows she is a workaholic and she likes it that way, because then she doesn't have to admit to herself that she is lonely, and craves the attention of a man.
But letting a man in would mean the possibility of a relationship or taking a step towards the dreaded word "love"... and she doesn't do love. Her life has too many "what-ifs" in it to promise anyone forever or give her heart to them... it just wouldn't be fair to them.
But then a handsome hockey player named Kevin waltzes through her office door and insists on a date, and at first she turns him down, and uses their age difference as an excuse for her answer. But he continues to come back, send thoughtful gifts, and begins to wear her down... eventually earning himself a date. After that one date it's evident that there should be many more to follow... but that would mean she would be letting someone in, and that scares her more than she cares to admit!
Breakout is a story of healing, finding love, conquering fears, and finding to courage to live without excuses. With each page I turned I felt their pain, passion, and apprehension, but all of that was no match for their hearts and the connection they had. Now that was electric! What they brought to the pages squeezed my heart in all the right places, and gave my feels a major workout... anticipation is at an all time high with these two. I loved every word of this one, it was sweet, steamy, and kept me captivated from beginning to end! Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it pages hold an unforgettable literary escape!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
This part is about Rebecca and Kevin. The book is about the age — gap when the man is much younger. (That's mine too, and I think that's great :). Kevin wants to win Rebecca's heart, but she does not dare for many reasons. Elise Fabers style of writing is fantastically clear and direct as usual. I'm impressed, that Kevin never gave up on Rebecca, he's so straight forward. This time the erotic scenes are inconspicuously woven into the story but these fantasies made my head cinema go crazy and the book something special. Because they wish they would..... I really enjoyed this pairing and now I'm looking forward to Dr Gabe Carter and Nutritionist Rebecca.
What a touching story. I was bawling at times because my heart just ached for Rebecca. She’s been through so much and has pretty much closed herself off from any serious relationship. But now, she’s starting to feel things for he super hot hockey-god Kevin that make her want to forget her walls and all the reasons she has for staying away from him. Too bad that Kevin is determined to make her see him, really see him. He was smitten with Rebecca from the first time he saw her and his intentions are very clear. He wants everything with Rebecca. Can he make her forget her issues especially the age gap between them that she’s obsessing about. He’s sure going to give it all he’s got.
I loved the plot and the issues that were dealt with in this story. There’s a powerful reason that Rebecca is so resistant to dating the oh so young Kevin. It’s truly gut-wrenching and made me so sad for her. But I love that Kevin just loves her and is not willing to let her go, no matter the obstacles. I love their love. The ending was SO romantic. I’m also anxious to read more about the other Rebecca, Nutritionist Rebecca and Gabe…that relationship sounds intense. Given how this story concluded, I think there’s a hot story there.
This was a heartfelt, feel good novella. PR Rebecca is an amazing woman who has been through so much loss in her 34 years. Kevin is the younger man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. And he wants Rebecca; not for a night, not for a few weeks. No he wants her for forever. Kevin is such an amazing alpha gentleman. He walks her to her car, carries her bag. Hell he gives her a little surprise every day. He also won't take no for an answer because he knows she wants him too. I adore him for that. He's willing to fight for what he wants. Rebecca has walls up and she wants them to stay up, though Kevin makes it real hard. I love her for fighting. I understood why she did and my heart broke for her. And even though I wanted her to make him fight harder (yeah that was the evil side of myself) I love that she finally gave in to him and knocked her walls down. I think it made her stronger. This was a wonderful feel good story with little to know drama. Just what I needed. Great read and now I wait patiently for the next book in the series. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
This book is amazing as a woman who was also told at a very young age I won't be able to have kids of my own being able to relate so much to Rebecca was amazing. The author did an excellent job at getting that strong gut punch feeling when someone would bring up kids for me. Honestly, I kinda wish I could say that I had the patience or grace the author gave to Rebecca in sharing that part of herself. I can simply say I'm crude when it came to that topic. The last thing I will say about why I loved this book is my husband of now 6 years did the exact same thing as Kevin even though I tried to scare him away. So basically, I love this book because yes it's a romantic fiction novel but for me is 2 huge parts of my real life that I don't get to read about even though it affects a huge amount of women around the world. PS: If you're one of the women like me who knows about their fertility issues or something like this; just know get more than a few opinions when it comes down to what a Doctor tells you and when you met the right person for you they will not run away no matter how hard you try to make them.

4.5 Stars for Breakout This is the first book by this author and it certainly won’t be the last in fact I need to check out the previous books in the Gold Hockey Series. This may be book 6 in the series but it can certainly be read as a stand-alone although I’m sure like me you will be left wanting to pick up the previous books. This is an emotional read that will certainly tug at your heartstrings, it’s a romance that’s full of insecurities and vulnerability with characters you can’t help loving because this author’s writing makes it so easy to connect on so many different levels. This book will appeal to all romance lovers as well as lovers of sports romance. This is a well written entertaining read that ticked all my boxes, Rebecca and Kevin’s journey captivated from the first page to the last line and once I started there was no putting it down so please make sure you have time to finish what you start when you one click this entertaining must read. Looking forward to reading more from Elise Faber.
Hockey player Kevin Hayes was always interested in Rebecca Stravokraus, the public relations director of the San Francisco Gold but until he knew he couldn’t do anything about it until he signed a new long term contract because he knew that Rebecca wanted to stay in San Francisco. Kevin decided to figure out what Rebecca wanted and find a way to her heart. Rebecca always liked Kevin but since he was ten years younger she didn’t think anything would come of it or it would end when he wanted children and she couldn’t have any. Kevin knew that he had an uphill climb convincing Rebecca but the whole team was helping him try to win her heart because that was the way the team was.
It helps to read the series in order before reading Breakout but it can be read as a stand-alone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Elise Faber heats things up with Breakout (Gold Hockey #6). This is Kevin Hayes' and Rebecca Stravokraus' (PR Rebecca) story. I have been looking forward to their book. It lived up to my expectations. This novel takes place in San Francisco. It is suitable for adult readers.
I enjoyed this story. Kevin is ten years younger than Rebecca. He has been incredibly patient in pursuing her. I appreciated that Kevin and Rebecca could relate to one another; they both lost loved ones. They had similar experiences. As a result, their age gap wasn’t such a big deal.
Elise Faber does a great job with this book. The story is heartwarming and realistic. The hockey scenes are well executed. You could read this novel as a stand alone, but I suggest reading the previous books where Kevin and Rebecca are mentioned. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book.
After three years on the team, Kevin is settled enough to finally go after everything he wants. And what he wants is Rebecca. And while Rebecca has definitely felt the attraction between her and Kevin, she sees him as too young for her. At only 24, he's ten years her junior. On top of that, she's closed herself off emotionally after losing both of her parents. Kevin, though, is not willing to back down without a fight. He's been biding his time for three years, and he is NOT giving up on his dream.
Rebecca and Kevins story is so sweet - the lengths that Kevin goes to in order to prove to her how much she means to him. And since Kevin is all in, the teams right there with him. Helping him where they can, which highlights just how much of a romantic Kevin is. He's sweet, compassionate, caring. The perfect man to break through those closely guarded walls around Rebeccas heart.
Rebecca is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her career but when it comes to men she is determined to keep her relationships casual and short. That has worked well for her up until this point, but she wasn’t prepared for the determined pursuit by Kevin.
Kevin is a professional hockey player who was attracted to Rebecca from their first meeting. At that time he was in no position to pursue a relationship with her but now that his future is secure he is determined to win the heart of the woman he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about.
This is a sweet and sexy story about two people who have both suffered losses but have reacted differently to them. Kevin knows that Rebecca is the only woman he wants so he is filling to give her time to realize that all he needs is her and that the rewards of trusting him with her heart is worth the risk.
This story was super sweet, completely tugged at your heart strings. Definitely shed a tear or two with the tough topics that are within this book. (please check you trigger warnings!
I think both mc were set up perfectly, their relationship was a great one. Yes they had their issues, but they were talked about fairly quickly and resolved pretty quickly as well. I'd say this wasn't an insta love, they both had be secretly pining for one another since mmc got on the team.
There is some spice, but not as much as I thought based off the cover of the book lol I listened to the audio-book, both voices fit the characters very well!!
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I wouldn't mind reading/listening to more of the series. I got this book off of Chirp, it was on sale!
Finished this book in one sitting and really enjoyed it. Kevin maybe 10 years younger than Rebecca but he’s not your average 24 year old, he knows exactly what he wants and that’s the sharp mouthed team PR Rebecca. Rebecca doesn’t agree that age is just a number, Although she really wants to she’s reluctant to give into her desires for Kevin believing she can’t give him all he deserves in life. Kevin notices all the little things, he really puts in the effort and I’m not sure any girl could withstand his pursuit. Rebecca is lonely and really need to trust and let someone in could that someone be Kevin regardless of his age. I was routing for Kevin all the way thru this book, a man as observant and with his gift buying skills is definitely a keeper.
If you have been following along with the Gold Hockey series then you know who PR Rebecca is. I love her. She is fabulous at her job. I love that she gets a chance at love since she has been right along side all the couples in the Gold Hockey series. Breakout is just fabulous. I love Kevin. He is super sweet and knows what he wants and that is PR Rebecca. I love how the age gap doesn't stop Kevin at all. He is very mature and set in his ways for his age. I love the battle within Rebecca when it comes down to Kevin and accepting she is not alone anymore. This book may bring a few tears to your eyes but it will also bring lots of smiles and maybe a giggle or two. I have loved every book in the Gold Hockey series so far and I can't wait for more.
I just ... it was published in December 2019. I get some women feel this way - if they can't have a baby they're "broken." HOWEVER to let it affect THEIR ENTIRE LIFE. [Do they judge other women then too? Or ones who choose NOT to have a child?]
... that they can't be in a romantic relationship EVER because they'll never be able to have a child? Yo some people DON'T WANT to have kids.
I really do get feeling "deficient" in some way - but not to let it basically control your [love] life.
Rebecca works as the PR for the Gold Hockey team. She's focused and comes across as scary to those who meet her. What happens when a hockey player 10 years her junior sets his sights on her? Will she succumb to his advances or will she push him away? Kevin might be 24 but he's been around Rebecca enough to know that he wants her, and for keeps not just a one night stand! Can be get her to give him a chance? Can be show her he's mature enough to be what she needs? This book was a truly adorable read that had hints of sadness but also of strength and true love! Elise just gets better with every book!
Rebecca heads up the PR for the Gold hockey team. She is still heartbroken over losing her parents so young and she really just wants to be happy. Kevin is one of the players for the Gold who has had an attraction for Rebecca for 3 years but she has blown him off every chance she got. Yes she uses the age difference but there is more than that .. Can Kevin finally get her to break down her walls?
I enjoyed this book. It is an older woman/younger man romance. Kevin was an epic book boyfriend. He may have been younger but he knew what he wanted and was willing to do the work to get it. I really loved his sweetness and determination. Rebecca had heavy emotional baggage and many fears and reservations. I thought that these two made a great couple and I found them easy to root for. Of my own accord I am posting a impartial review.
Breakout is the next saga in Elise Faber’s Gold Hockey series. We get to meet Kevin and Rebecca, an older woman, younger man romance, love to see this in a book. This book is more than just your typical romance, Ms. Faber really delves into her characters minds and feelings, their losses and loves. Kevin in an alpha male, Rebecca is heartbroken over a loss in her family, I think Kevin comes in at just the right time, and they make one heck of a couple.
Breakout is a fantastic older woman/younger man hockey romance! I loved it! I couldn’t get enough! Rebecca and Kevin were great characters! Rebecca has reservations about getting involved with Kevin, but Kevin was going to do everything he could to prove to Rebecca that they are the perfect for each other. Breakout is a well written, entertaining, emotional, heart tugging romance. I enjoyed it so much and I’m sure you will too! I can’t wait for the next book in the Gold Hockey series!
BREAKOUT is the sixth book in the Gold Hockey series. This is an emotional and engaging story about a young hockey player and an older woman. They both work for the same team and shouldn’t get involved, but can’t seem to help the attraction. They have to overcome some issues and work through the obstacles in their way to be together. I enjoyed this heartwarming s story and can’t wait to read more in this series.
