After years of never having things go my way, I've finally taken control of my own life and built something that's just my own. That is until my good fortune catches the attention of the worst kind of people and every freedom I thought I had is stripped away.
I'm being held against my will without explanation, but I won't stand idly by and wait for someone to come rescue me. Life had taught me to only count on myself and that was just what I planned to do until the Fabled Four insert themselves into my life.
As tensions rise between me and their leader, I have to choose between trusting them and doing what I believe is best for myself. Though, if I can't get my witch magic in check first, I might ruin any chance of escape all on my own.
Let the games begin.
*This is a complete MF paranormal romance series and recommended for ages 16+ due to content and language*

This book could have been a 4 or 5-star read had it not been for my dislike of the heroine, Cara. The writing and plotting were fantastic! The overall flow of the novel was steady and engaging. Unfortunately, the main heroine took a bit of its shine away.
Cara was a very frustrating character to get to know and it was even worse being in her head 24/7. She lacks any sense of self-preservation and likes to repeat on a loop about everything that's going on and how she feels at any given point in length. She made idiotic choices after being explained to/asked to not do just that. It was like the author wanted this to be a quirky personality trait of hers but all it accomplished with me was taking away the shine from a very good and well-written story.
The guys (AKA The Fabled Four) were your typical alpha-holes until the author decided to switch their names 40%+ into the novel. To say I was frustrated and confused is putting it mildly. It got to the point where I had to keep referring back to my notes when every guy was mentioned so I could keep them straight in my head. That also took away from the story.
Each guy has their individual personality and they did stand out from each other. Gunner/ was my favorite! His wisecracks were great by the end. Hawk/ was very annoying due to Cara's inner monologue and his need to throw temper tantrums when Cara did something he didn't like or agree with. I guess having an adult conversation about how they feel for each other is expecting too much out of him.
By the end, I was going more towards Team Owen than Team Hawk. I know we don't know anything about Owen or what his intentions are but call me crazy if I like a guy who treats women in a respectful manner.
I hope Cara loses her quirky personality trait of not listening to anyone ever in book two because I'm curious as to what happens next with the Fabled Four, the Luccovino's, and Owen.

Elite Supernatural Trackers: Initiation by Heather Renee is the first book in the new series.
Being sent Mandora Supernatural Prison for breaking Witch Law, Cara has no idea what she’s done. As the story unfolds you’ll be turning the pages quicker than you’ll want, as the story is intriguing and captivating. Plus Cara is awesome character, who can surprisingly handle herself in difficult situations. But she’ll luckily fall in with the right crowd at the prison.
I loved the way that the story unfolded, and the way each character was added into the story.
Side note: This story has some darker/bully elements which are fitting for the overall storyline. Also I thought for a moment this might turn into a reverse harem story, however as per the blurb it definitely isn’t.
Don't get me wrong it was good, kept me engaged. But, I have read it before. All these academy/ prison stories are starting to run together for me. Maybe if I had read this one before the 25 or so others I have already read I would give a 4 star. For me, now, they have to be really unique. Still is a recommend if you are a fan of the genre.
Gah! I literally could never get enough of this book! Seriously...I kid you not it is fan-flippin-tastic! I knew from the moment I heard about this one that I was gonna love it. My excitement levels were something akin to the girl from Despicable Me lol. You know how she gets overexcited that was me.
The easiest thing I could say to you guys would be just read the damn book! Like by whatever means necessary...work that book into your schedule, even if you have to do something like this.
Just try not to get caught that's the key lol. But seriously guys this book was so incredible in the way that it just demands your attention. It tells you what to do, it demands to be read and demands that you do not put it down until it is well and truly devoured. When it comes to this book, sleep is for the weak.
So have that caffeine ready for the next day coz you're probably going to need it or, maybe you could try something like this lol.
I'm certain Heather's mission in life is to own her reader's hearts and soul... and it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly talented she is. I'm certain that with each new book of hers I read, the stakes get higher and the stories just keep getting better. Sometimes I do find myself questioning in my mind
Coz truly all her work just has a unique kind of magic to it... and I think it's a little of good magic mixed in with some voodoo magic as well lol...Coz nobody should be able to tear up your heart like that and control your emotions through words so easily...who knows? Maybe as we read the magic seeps into our bones and takes effect, and we get lost in the moment not knowing who we are anymore... just like Ron Weasley.
But alas she can, and it's either magic or she's just that dang good.
Nah just kidding she's just that good.
Wow okay, I haven't even got into the description of the book yet and I've already rambled a fair amount...but guys I can't help it!...everything a book needs, this one has got it...A chic that takes no nonsense, is sassy as all get out and is bound to make you laugh, is only just the beginning. Feisty little fairy friend...check ✅...four sexy, overbearing and possibly jerky males (not RH)...check ✅....Enemies to lovers ....YES check ✅...Paranormal Prison...check ✅...one prison warden you may want dead...check ✅...and a killer story plot and great story development...triple check ✅✅✅
The characters are everything and you will LOVE them! You can't help it. I automatically was in love with Cara, her fighting spirit had me from page one. But it wasn't just that, everything about her I loved, her sassiness and the way she didn't let her bad situation knock her down...nope she just continued being her awesome self. And then when she finds and helps Nixie, a fairy, things only get better...those two together are seriously just meant to be. They are like soul sisters or something.
Then add in the Fabled Four and you are bound to just love the tension as things slowly begin to unravel. But it isn't all smooth sailing coz it takes those four men a teensy bit of time to learn that bossing and pushing Cara around won't get them all that far...coz she will fight back at every turn.
Now that I probably have you all thoroughly confused, let me give just a wee bit of background. It starts off with Cara, a witch who hasn't had an easy run and small things start happening that make her feel like her luck has changed over...but it definitely has not.
Anyways, this tracker fairy turns up along with some mysterious men, telling her she's broken Witch Law and is being taken off to Mandora Supernatural prison. See
But the problem is she doesn't believe she's done anything against the law and that it's all just a mistake...but to make matters worse the Warden will barely talk to her because he's "busy" and won't be around for a couple of days...and to make matters worse she's placed in with the men. Which is decidedly not good. The poor chic can't catch a break.
Now its time for a survival 101 crash course.
From here this is where she starts learning some new things about herself and her power that were always classed as weak....she is definitely anything but that. The longer she stays in the prison the more her powers start to emerge and she just became a whole lot more important in the games being played by different parties.
This is a random piece of information but one thing I really looked forward to while reading were these funny little prison rules she'd make up as she went...and they would entertain me to no end. Here's an example.
"Rule number five of prison: Other people's rules were lame"
Anyway, she's lucky enough to be roomed with a decent guy named Anthony who takes her under his wing and tries to teach her some survival rules but well one thing you should know about Cara, she doesn't do so well with rules. This is her outlook.
“She kind of makes a point, Siren. You don’t listen very well,” Blake said. My eyes narrowed at him. “I listen just fine. It’s just sometimes we all have different opinions, and mine is usually better, so I choose to follow that one.” Mason groaned. “This is a pointless conversation.”
So although she automatically agrees with Anthony and following the three rules he gave her...that all goes up in smoke when she actually meets the Fabled Four...the ones that had been at the prison the longest - part of their punishment was working for the warden as trackers...and they tend to mess with the other prisoners...but well her fiery ways didn't take too well to their methods and well she got under their skin.
The Fabled Four decide to help her, although their method of 'help' initially is a bit weird lol and its hard for Cara to accept their version, and she may just fight them pretty much at any turn she can...but in time bonds start to grow between them and even though friends aren't a good thing to have in a place like this, that's what happens. And maybe something a little bit more with a certain strong-willed moody member of that group ;)
And because men are a tad special and a little slow, it takes them a little while to realise that maybe the way they went about it wasn't the best of ways...but hey they get their eventually lol. I'm with Cara and Nixie with this.
Nixie grumbled next to me. “I don’t understand men.” “It’s better that way. We’d lose our sanity if we did,” I replied.
It doesn't take them long to work out there are a lot more things going on behind the scenes, at the prison, but they are determined to work it out and hopefully, before anymore people are killed. We want them to escape the prison, not leave in a bodybag...that would be tragic!
Okay, I'm officially finished on the story matter because my self control is slipping. And I think I might start babbling soon like a looney. So instead this can just be me.
But please do realise this is more me in real life when it comes to books
So lets just hope that I'm not kept waiting too long for the next book in this series because I know that I will devour that up like a person craving all that chocolate cake. And oh how that cake will be eaten.
All I can say folks is this is a book you do not want to miss. For me, this book had so much to offer and it really took over my world. A book that can do that, is a book that should be read. Heather has really outdone herself and is setting the book bar high.
If you love strong lead characters with sassiness running to their core, you will love this book. Not only that It has an awesome enemies to lovers buildup that I really enjoyed...seeing and being apart of all that angst was pretty dang cool.
In a world where literally anything can happen be sure to take a chance on this book and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime. It is sure to be one hell of a ride.
Thank you so much Heather for another amazing read! I thoroughly enjoyed this new world to which you created. I found this gif below and it really is true. I know some of you may not understand chronic illnesses but some days everything just feels dark and negative and books like this really do bring in a positive light...so thank you for that.
Also thank you for keeping me around to ramble on and on about your books. You are an amazing author and person and I feel so honoured to have had the chance to read this book in place for an honest review.
Okie doke...that's all for now peeps. So Happy Readings and Happy New Year!! <3
First off - USA Bestselling author???? Are they handing out this title in cereal boxes now, cause it feels like every second book I read the author is making the same (increasingly lame) claim.
The writing as such, isn't bad. Character development is there (or getting there)
But this is a DNF for me at the 40% mark. Mainly because the author has chosen to use several of the most loathed tropes/hooks known to man. First off, the four males, who start off having nicknames, then give the h their real names, but tell her in public to call them by their code names. So h thinks of them in her head as one thing, but in public calls them something else??? Cue the name game. Yeah, not the smartest of ideas.
Second - I particularly loathe when the H's know the rules of the world but the h is left stumbling around, getting in to trouble because the men can not communicate. So the h is set-up to look like a clumsy, rash idiot again and again. An the exasperated males have to pull her butt out of the fire again and again - even though it is their fault she's fumbling around making the mistakes in the first place.
I know I said I stopped at the 40% mark but it was painfully obvious who the snitch/bad guy is going to be. And one more complaint - our feisty, loner h happily makes all these friends in prison, yet keeps going on how out in the real world she never trusts anyone and is always getting betrayed - so why the hell does she think a bunch of felons are her friends or can be trusted? That makes no sense to the character or her backstory.
This was a freebie - and am very thankful I didn't waste any money on it. Oh, look, I did have something positive to say after all.
Didn't much care for this book, my first issue is knowing these guys names then they switch to their "real names" and then I was lost, who was who again? And why the importance of the name change? Cara makes no sense, she in a very messed up predicament and yet she more concerned about finding out who these four strangers are? There is also way to much going on, it's a lot of story that seems to be to much to fast. And I'm left wondering what kinda book this is, jail book? mob book? What is really going on? But we get more of this odd push and pull with cara and the fabled 4 which the name is so over used it breaks on insanity. Cara is strong but not, hard headed, but meek, I got tired of w.e games the author was trying to prove with w.e this groups emotional mess was, so I skipped pages, and continued on hoping for the best, and yet it didn't quench my thirst, just left me unsatisfied
This story and book had a lot of potential but due to it's length, it doesn't really get fleshed out. On the bright side, though, due to the limited world (prison), things move fast.
This isn't a very dark bully romance; as the books moves to fast for that to really happen.
Cara is a character you can't really love or hate; because she is admirable in that she stands up for herself but she is also very rash and naive. Her embarrassing insta-attraction to Jaxon is a bit cringey to read.
Not sure why the MC insists on being so damn stubborn for no reason. Like purposefully obstinate. I found her wholly unlikable and hated the whole insta love vibe going on. Ask didn’t buy her backstory.
Annoying things like having to memorize their real names vs their nicknames, her lack of care towards others while demanding they bow to her wishes, etc made this book difficult to read. I really do wish someone would smack her.
Lastly could use some light editing to fix things like parallel structure.
This series is so creative! I love the mixture of supernatural species within the core group, and the way they use their powers is really different to other books. Cara is a fun MC, though a bit too stubborn. But she develops really well through the book as she learns who to trust. I adored Nixie, I really hope she gets a bigger role in upcoming books. I'm excited to see where this series goes!
This is one series that has it all!! You'll be instantly pulled in by the Fabled Four who are utterly dark, delightful and delicious!! I just can't decide which one to dream about!! Cara and Nixie are one fierce force and nearly unstoppable together! You've never met a fairy before quite like Nixie. I'm terribly jealous of Cara as I'm totally girl crushing on her violent tiny bestie. This is girl power in a whole new light! The banter and stinging one liners will keep you glued to this unforgettable book!! The tension between Cara and Jaxson is delectable and such a huge part of this. Will they or won't they!? And oh yes!! Hello to Mr. McDroolWorthy Owen who could be the worst thing to happen to Cara. I'm so excited to watch sparks fly in Capture as Hawk and Owen clash more over our girl. This plot is fast paced and will knock you over!! Heather Renee just keeps writing these captivating series with rich details that are absolutely breathtaking!! Just when I think I've read her best work yet, she releases another and it's one huge love fest!!!
I absolutely loved Initiation. Cara turns 18 and finds herself being arrested and thrown in the supernatural prison for reasons unbeknownst to her. To make matters worse, she is put in the mens’ cell block, again with no explanation. On the agenda? Stay alive and figure out what the Hell is going on. Enter The Fabled Four ** Swoon ** These guys are sex on a stick! Too bad they are total asscracks (Cara’s words, not mine). They think they own the place and all the other inmates are scared spitless of them. She needs to stay far away from the FF. They are trouble that she doesn’t need. Too bad Cara doesn’t scare that easy and she attracts troubled like bees to honey. This book is soooo good. Seriously, I devoured it in like 3 hours. I cannot wait for book 2 🤗
Heather Renee has out done herself with this brand new series. I started reading this book, and I just couldn't put it down. I think could become my favorite series of hers. The chemistry between Cara and Hawk is out of this world. The mystery surrounding the rest of the Fabled Four is so intense and intriguing that you can't help but be sucked in. Not to mention the mystery with Cara herself and why she ended up in prison, let alone why she was thrown into the men's side. And then we have the mysterious Owen, and all the rest of the Fabled Four....I just don't know which one is going to be my newest book boyfriend yet. Seriously, you need to read this book
I could not put this book down. I absolutely adore Cara and the Fabled Four. Without giving anything away I love how Cara takes no nonsense from these alpha men and is full of fire. It was a very thrilling read and I can’t wait for the next one. Also, I know heather is our queen of cliffhangers but this one is a major drop off.
Initiation- I really enjoyed this book. I first download it because I assumed it was Rh and when I discovered it wasn’t I was so disappointed. But that was my fault because I didn’t read all the blurb. But I still enjoyed the book. I absolutely love all the characters and I soo want it to be Rh. Cause I couldn’t choose she belongs with them all lol. I’m exited for the next book
This paranormal series made me chuckle, cheer, and wonder WTF a few times. All in all it kicks some serious fairy butt!!!! In a world of different paranormal beings Cara knows she ISN'T at the top of the heap. At most she's a semi powerful witch that can't always count on her powers even working. She's also a loner since her parents passed away, and without many friends. Nothing usually goes her way, but SMALL things have recently been going her way like getting free coffee and a door opened for her. Hey, I did say small things . Until of course she was accosted while out and about, informed she'd broken Witch Law and unceremoniously portalled to Supernatural Prison. Thrown in with all men and no answers, Cara has no clue what's going on. After all... As wonky as her powers were she KNOWS she hasn't broken Witch Law. What the fairy wings is going on?!? Luckily her cell mate seems nice and is trying to look out for her. Of course, proving just how uncharmed her life is the four giant oafs that dragged her here have taken notice and let it be known. The Fabled Four keep annoyingly calling her Siren and act like she's their cat toy to play with. She STILL hasn't spoken with the warden to learn what exact rule(s) she'd supposedly broken. What she DOES know is something it's VERY, VERY WRONG and she'd darned well figure it out. Unless of course her mouth and stubbornness get in the way LOL. Look forward to a book filled with interesting characters, layers of intrigue, all surrounding one fierce, oft potty mouthed, stubborn female. Something is definitely rotten within the walls of this prison, but is everything and everyone as they seem? I fully enjoyed every bit of this read and can't wait for the follow up!!! I ADORE this author and everything she releases.
I really hope in the next book the team comes together. I don’t think I can take multiple books of grown individuals pouting or otherwise behaving like toddlers. The guys have their faults (Hawk in particular), but Cara wow.
She proclaims to anyone in hearing distance she’s more capable than they think and can take care of herself then proceeds to do stupid things just for the sake of rebellion. She agreed to their terms then just does what she wants. If she didn’t like the terms be an adult and say that but don’t risk others who are trying to help you. Not to mention for all her comments on who she is, she needs to be bailed out frequently because she is not as badass as she’d like us to believe and doesn’t take into an account the consequences for other people. You would think after what happened with Anthony she’d be more thoughtful with her actions but you’d be sadly disappointed.
Final thoughts: I’m all here for a MC who makes a good decision that turns out wrong. I’m not here for one making decisions that make me wonder if she’s TSTL and wonder why these other people are still trying to help her. Decent foundation for a good series. I’m just hoping for a step up in everyone’s character development and teamwork in the next book.
Heads up people... cliffhanger ahead! So Cara is taken and placed in a supernatural prison for reasons she has no knowledge of. When she is placed in the men’s section, she realizes that she’s in a very bad situation, and right now it’s survival of the fittest, and everyone for themselves. When she is befriended by the fabled four, a powerful group within the prison, she realizes that not everything is as it seems, and that includes herself. This is the first in a serialized set of books, with an ongoing storyline, which means cliffhangers. The one at the end of this book wasn’t super-bad, but pretty much nothing is resolved, and very little knowledge has been given. It was, however, a good book, fairly well written, and with a unique, if a little odd premise. My singular complaint would be that the heroine acts a little more like someone in her mid twenties rather than an eighteen year old, and there were some places that this jarred. As an urban fantasy, it performs well, the universe it is set in is an alternate one to ours, and is intriguing if not described in depth.
I wasn't sure if I would like this, but have liked other books by this author, so thought to give it a try. Prison books aren't my thing either. But I actually liked it enough to want to watch for book 2 when it releases. I think there were a few places that didn't quite make sense (but that may be the mystery that will unfold in the series), and a few places that seemed to not flow smoothly. But the 5 main characters were interesting & had me wondering how this will go down. I wasn't sure what to make of the Fabled 4, I kind of wanted them to end up as a RH for Cara cause I can't decide who is a good match for her & all the guys seem to be interested in her to a degree, but on Amazon there's a note at the end of the blurb that says that this is not a RH. (Darn!) Then the addition of the new guy (Owen) into the prison towards the end, had me wondering about how he will affect the story & the original 4 guys' relationship with Cara. I found the names were definitely confusing, calling the 4 guys-Hawk, Yeti, Ace, & Gunner, that worked, but than adding their real names & going back & forth between the names, I couldn't keep track of who was who when using their real names. I am looking forward to book 2.
If you're looking for a quick read full of all of the above, this book may well fit the bill for you!
I'm not going to summarize the book blurb but this engaging UF has supernatural criminals behind bars in a United States where the supernatural is known and believed in... the problem is, sometimes a person can commit a crime with powers they didn't know they had. Um... whoops.
The plot is fast-paced and moves at a good clip. The characters are engaging and fun. The dialogue? One of my favorite parts!
Action, adventure, character development, some romance, and more make this a book I will want to return to. I've never read any of Author Renee's works before; I will definitely want to change that.
There are more books coming in the series, but this story can be read as a standalone. No cliffhanger but I sure do want to read the next one!
I have to admit that I had my doubts about the whole prison thing but it was extremely well accomplished. And if I'm being honest me and Cara are practically the same person...
Cara is stubborn with a capital S, funny, caring and strong. She lost her parents as a child and has been alone ever since so she, understandably, developed a few defense mechanisms.
The Fabled Four are the definition of the word alpha. They all have different but complementary personalities that just fit.
The Fabled Four: - Hawk: the leader, unknown species for most of the book, dark, tall and handsome; - Yeti: the emphat with a twist; - Gunner: fae, he's the clown of the group, but don't piss him off; - Ace: the quiet one, unknown species for most of the book.
The writing is easily understandable, without any complicated words.
Cara is an amazing, badass FMC, who had an awful upbringing which turned her out in a fierce, speak her mind, stubborn as a mule, do what I want, wonderful woman 😁😅 Her world is suddenly upside down when she's thrown into prison, without any explanation and, even worse, in the men wing... What??? 🤔😰 Now she must face the famous Fabled Four, the most terrible, cranky, violent, hot as hell men she has ever seen before, whom just happen to notice her 😲🙈 Will Cara survive her time in prison?, will her heart??? 😩💔 With wonderful characters, amazing world building and story line, this start of the series is a must read... Can't wait for the next book!!! 😍❤️
If u like the supernatural and a mystery than this is the series for you, its based in a prison and full of strong characters and few prisoners who actually dont belong there, when cara is taken there for god knows what shes thrown into the mens block.being the only female causes afew problems but cara is stronger than she even knows when the fabled four save her in the bathroom they end up protecting her.. cara learns alot about herself and the supernatural she had no idea about, i enjoyed this one sooo much its different its exciting and its full of mystery.. dont be fooled it does have humor and some sadness i cried at one stage.. looking forward to the next one
I need the next book in this series now! I always love this author's books, but this one dragged me in and had me devouring it from start to finish as fast as I could. Cara is just awesome. I love that she is a strong female, even if she is confused as can be.
The FF are completely drool worthy. The end of the blurb says it isn't a RH, but it is perfectly set up for one! I'm not sure which of the guys is better suited for her. I love the dialogue and snappy comebacks throughout. Overall, it is a great read that I couldn't put down.
It was a 5/5 for me. I'm waiting impatiently for the next one.
Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Cara makes me want to smack her so much! She never thinks before she speaks. She usually makes matters worse by her stupid choices. Ugh, she is the kind of character I wouldn't want to be friends with. Part of her problem is she knows nothing about the supernatural world! Yes, her life in prison started out bad, however it has ended up good. If she screws up what she has with the fabulous four for Owen, in the next book I will stop reading! Unless she does it & the guys know she's doing it to spy on Owen. I love the Fabulous Four they are sexy and cool. I just feel sorry for them, the warden is really taken advantage of them!
Cara is a 5 foot nothing, orphaned witch with lots of snark and plenty of attitude...you know the type...fake it till you make it. She's imprisoned on trumped up charges by a power hungry warden and thrown in with the male population on Cell block B so what could go wrong? Cara knew that to survive she needed to befriend the biggest and baddest for protection so ignoring her cell mates advice she throws caution into the wind and proceeds to staredown the worst of the prison, the Fabled 4. This was a very enjoyable ride and thankfully I already have book 2 to continue in the fun.
Once you get past the initial chapters, this book takes off. It's pretty all consuming and a VERY quick read, I read it in less than one day. I won't lie, some of the writing was a tad hard to get through due to its awkward nature and wording. It felt like once the author caught her stride though it was a lot smoother. I enjoyed the vast world of all the different types of supernatural beings. The story could have been a little more flushed out as parts felt rushed. But it was an enjoyable story and I will probably continue the series. If you are looking for a quick fun and sassy read, this is your pick.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and had some unique elements I loved. I loved the fact that there are multiple sexy men in the book without them all falling in love with the MC. Most of the MC's interactions with the men are of a friendly nature with only one potential love interest. The MC is strong and independent but she's still growing into herself. I'm excited to see how her relationships develop between everyone in the next book and how powerful she'll become.
This took me less than 8 hours of reading between tasks at work. The story starts out strong and interesting. I'm eager to read more. By the 40% mark, I'm hoping something will start happening. At the 60% mark, I'm skimming versus fully reading. At the 75% mark, I'm actively skipping several pages now. 90% in and the only reason I'm reading it is to say I finished it. Now that it's finished... I feel... I don't know. Cheated maybe? Like there wasn't more. It was a bit of a let down and I'm not sure I read another book of this.
