About the author

LINDA SOLE also writes under the names of Anne Herries, Emma Quincey, Lynn Granville and one as Juliana Linden.

Linda was born in Swindon. Her family moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire when she was nine, and Linda attended the local school but left at fifteen to work as a hairdresser in her father's business. She was married at eighteen and ran her own hairdressing business for some years before moving to Cambridge, although Linda has now moved to somewhere a bit quieter in Cambridgeshire. She started writing in 1976, combining this with helping her husband to run his antique shop.

Writing as Anne Herries, Linda won the 2004 RNA Romance Award and the Betty Neels Trophy. She lives in Cambridgeshire. After many happy years of taking their holidays in Spain she and her husband, now have a second home in Norfolk. Being only a short drive, they can visit for a few days at a time, which suits their busy lifestyle these days. They are only just across the road from the sea, and can see it from their windows. At home and at the sea they enjoy watching the wildlife and have many visitors to their gardens, particularly squirrels. Anne loves watching their antics and spoils both them and her birds shamelessly. She also loves to see the flocks of geese and other birds flying in over the sea during the autumn, to winter in the milder climes of this country. Anne loves to write about the beauty of nature and sometimes puts a little into her books, though they are mostly about love and romance. She writes for her own enjoyment and to give pleasure to her readers.

[Harlequin Historical]

Josephine and Hal's story.

Josephine is a caring young woman who only wants to help others. This gets her into trouble though and her reputation is ruined. She was seen leaving town with a "fallen woman" and Hal, a gentleman who is beginning to cherish Jo and their friendship. The trouble is, she had no chaperone, had to go into hiding, all to help her new friend feel safe during the last month's of her pregnancy. Of course she couldn't expect Hal to over look her ruined reputation. He needs to find a young chit with a squeeky clean name and marry her. So it doesn't matter if she wants him or not. A future between them is impossible.

Entertaining read. The little twists and turns in the plot kept me turning the pages long past my bedtime.

Καλός ο Χριστουγεννιάτικος έρωτας, μου έκανε μια χαρά παρέα δύο μέρες. Βέβαια σαν ρομάντζο είναι πολύ pg-13 και τα πάθη που ξυπνάνε μεταξύ τους οι χαρακτήρες μένουν μόνο στις σκέψεις τους μέχρι την τελευταία στιγμή. Πάντως θυμίζει λίγο αυτό το σκάλωμα των χαρακτήρων στο Downton Abbey που είναι όλο "δεν είναι της τάξης μου", "τι νομίζουν οι γονείς", "τι θα πει η γειτονιά" και το βρίσκω αξιαγάπητο. Επίσης έχει ωραιότατες περιγραφές από τα ρούχα των χαρακτήρων και τα σπίτια τους. Σε βάζει στην εποχή πολύ οργανικά, και μπράβο στη μεταφράστρια Έφη Αποστόλου που έδωσε το κλίμα της περιόδου.

Not sure whether to give this 2 or 3 stars. There were times when the pace was too slow and others when the plot became more interesting. I also don't care too much for the dialogue when the couple becomes "too mushy" with each other with their "my darling "s. This story is also a little too restrained and mannered for my tastes. I was just thankful to finally completed this book because I had almost given up at the beginning of chapter three.

Πρώτο βιβλίο για το ΄24, με την προσδοκία να διαβάσω μια ωραία χριστουγεννιάτικη ιστορία με μια ατμοσφαιρική ιστορία αγάπης εποχής. Έχω όμως κι εγώ κάτι προσδοκίες ώρες-ώρες...!
Καμία αίσθηση Χριστουγέννων, αφού η πλοκή διαδραματίζεται αρκετά πριν και αμέσως μετά από αυτά, καμία εορταστική ατμόσφαιρα, κανένα πάθος ανάμεσα στο πρωταγωνιστικό ζευγάρι. Μα τι πάθος, λέω... Ούτε καν προσέγγιση, φλερτ, ένα αίσθημα τέλος πάντων. Ο έρωτας είχε τον τελευταίο λόγο σ' αυτό το βιβλίο και παρόλο που μου άρεσε η φιλική σχέση που ανέπτυξε η Τζο με την Έλεν, όπως και η σχέση της με την οικογένειά της και οι... προχωρημένες -για την εποχή- αντιλήψεις και ελευθερίες τους, δεν επέλεξα το βιβλίο για να διαβάσω κάτι τέτοιο! Πραγματικά, οι σκηνές ανάμεσα στην Τζο και τον Χαλ ήταν πιο αδιάφορες και νερόβραστες κι από μπαγιάτικο τσάι που ξέμεινε στην τσαγιέρα για μια εβδομάδα.
Πρώτο βιβλίο για το '24 και πρώτη αναγνωστική φόλα για τη νέα χρονιά. Ελπίζω η συνέχεια να αποδειχτεί πολύ πολύ καλύτερη!

This book is part of a series about the Horne sisters, 3 sisters who are the daughter of a Clergyman. Marianne’s story was told in Marianne and Marquis and Lucy’s story is told in Marrying Captain, this is the middle sister Joanne’s story.

Joanne has accompanied her aunt to Bath for a few weeks and she meets Hal Beverley and falls in love. It is not smooth running but love wins in the end. It was a nice little story, not the best Mills and Boon I have read but good enough.
