I received a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
"Flight Path" by Lisa Wilkes was such a joy to read! I don't even know how to express all of my emotions because this is like a low-key emotional roller coaster! From reading the very first chapter, I just knew this was going to be a great book, and I was absolutely excited!
The protagonist of this lovely story is Callie Schneider. She is a flight attendant, but also a gifted writer. Callie's love interest is the sweet, caring Andrew Goldberg. Callie and Andrew were right off the bat such likable characters. I really liked Callie's sense of humor in the beginning of the story. Almost every funny line she said, I would chuckle. I wish I could have seen more of her sense of humor, but I do understand why the humor was toned down as the plot progressed because things were getting very serious in her life. First impression of Andrew was that he was very hot and sweet. His little moments of being shy and cute were very endearing. I feel that a lot of fictional love interests need to act more like Andrew. Andrew truly cherished Callie and supported all of her choices. When Andrew first called Callie babe, I literally made a happy squeal sound. I felt that their relationship was so genuine. Maintaining a long distance relationship can be very difficult for people, but Callie and Andrew stayed strong. This quote melted my heart, "This handsome stranger on Clematis Street was supposed to be a one-night stand, yet he's become my lifeline."
One of the golden moments in the story was Callie's writing. The author really shaped Callie into becoming a soulful writer. Her inner dialogue addressing her special person was quite endearing and showed that she really cared about them. The words that Callie created were incredible. It's hard for me to even describe how beautiful and compelling her writing was. Callie's blogs were full of emotion, and I felt all of it. You can tell that Callie put her heart and soul into her writing. The author really knows how to evoke emotion in her characters.
I loved how this story can relate to a lot of people in terms of figuring out difficult life choices, prioritizing one's responsibilities, and having to grow up. Callie was 28 years old, and she had some growing up to do. This shows that even adults are still capable of needing to grow up and evolve to being better people than what they once were. There was one quote in the story that demonstrated this: "I stare at myself, at the age of someone approaching thirty and still struggling to make choices that aren't self-destructive."
Another great part of this book was that the author incorporated her personal knowledge from being in the aviation industry into her book. As strange as this may sound, it's like the author is giving a little piece of her life into her work (if that makes any sense), and I think that's beautiful. Like her character Callie, Lisa Wilkes is truly a wonderful writer. This book is something special and something realistic that can connect with so many readers. I highly recommend reading "Flight Path" by Lisa Wilkes! Overall rating is 5 stars!
