They say deep in the dark, unexplored woods of the United States exist monsters that creep in the night; some living, others not, yet still able to creep upon the earth, their tentacles of malice strangling whomever they touch. Are these tales of death and evil just mere ramblings of old men whose vulnerable minds twist into fear after they've had one too many drinks? Or are these stories of dread more fact than fantasy?
Destination Death is a horror anthology that does exactly what it says on the tin - brings everyone closer to death. Four stories mainly centered around mysterious and mythical forests and the urban legends surrounding them, Liberty takes Japanese, American, and Native American myths and gives them his own make over, his characters experiencing bloody and violent deaths at every turn. He doesn't shy away from violence but it isn't gratuitous either, suiting the supernatural characters he's dealing with. Not your usual collection - this one has more bite.
Very fun book. There are 4 short stories, with Death Forest as the anchor of the book, but the Wendigo story was also real fun as were the other two. If you want a fun time reading horror stories, I'd suggest giving this a read. It's on the short side, and I read it in 2 days because my girlfriend got it for me as a Valentine's day gift since I'm a horror nerd.
