5 hours and 46 minutes Book 3 Stockton Wolves series – can be read as standalone. Complete story.
Roan didn’t expect to be put in a jail cell by the man who was meant to be his mate. But it wasn’t as though his life had ever been easy. In his world Omega wolves were sold as soon as they became useful, and he’d been trained his whole life in the arts of keeping a clean house and a Master happy. Unfortunately for him, being looked after was the last thing his mate seemed to want or need.
Mace was happy enough in his life. Women seemed attracted to his bad boy looks and his surly attitude. They never stuck around, but then he was married to his job, so he didn’t mind being alone at nights. And he had a pack. Okay, that wasn’t something he’d been raised to believe in, but he’d spent enough time with Shane and Dimitri and the rest of the guys to know they were like anyone else. They just sprouted fur on occasion, and ran on four legs instead of two. So when Dimitri confronted him with the fact that the cute little shifter he’d booked the day before was his mate, he had a lot of thinking to do – dealing with man bits was the least of his problems. He was pretty sure he didn't want or need a mate, period.
A serial killer with blond women in his sights, a whole host of misunderstandings, and the protective antics of Kalel, the cutest little cat shifter in existence, are just some of the hurdles these two men are going to have to overcome before they can have their HEA.
Warning: contains an Omega shifter who will break your heart, a gruff human detective who has a lot to learn about mates, and a pack that works overtime to keep their members safe. Contains M/M intimate situations and off page references to child abuse. If these are triggers for you, please don’t buy. As always, no cheating, no cliffhangers and an HEA guaranteed.

Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. Another lovely read from Lisa Oliver. This is come-out-forcefully-out-of-closet-you-have-never-been-in story. I don't normally like GFY stories but this one had all my favorite characters and I could not help but root for Roan, sweet sweet young man - so misguided and used by everybody...just heart-breaking. Mace the silent type is somewhat of a mean b....d in the beginning but I can see where he was coming from. So the fact that he took his time and thought things through was very good and responsible. I liked that, no rush to mate.
There were plenty misunderstandings and sweet moments that made this book a very satisfying read. It was the pack itself as much as the MCs that made this book special - their bonds and just that family feel were very comforting. A wonderful book!
Mace was deliberately careless and quite hurtful to Roan to where I lost patience and sympathy for him. He took advantage of Roan's omega and conditioned submissiveness just one too many times. Along with his inability to sympathize, Mace wasn't able to relate emotionally to Roan. The story was very unromantic. Mace just never got his shit together for their relationship to develop.
This was a really bad gay for you story with a weak mating pull. The sexual chemistry was low between Mace and Roan. Roan was a really hot little number and even attracted attention in public. But Mace wasn't that sexually attracted to Roan and was still ogling boobs on other women. The sex was really boring and featured Mace penetrating Roan without much foreplay. Even with that, Mace didn't seem attracted to Roan's twinkie butt either. He wasn't an ass man even with women.
I really didn't care for Mace. His character went from bad to worse, especially with what happened with Trent. Mace could have done a lot of damage since he had a mate and was already claimed. He already had enhanced smell and was getting stronger, he could have really hurt his supposed BFF.
I felt bad for Roan but I didn't care all that much for him either.
I'm looking forward to Trent getting his book, he deserves it!!
As always, the romance and smexiness of the book deserve five stars. I only deducted half a star due to some unanswered questions, but I guess I'm picky.
The story works great with the others in the series, and I can't wait for Trent's turn to happiness.
I can't stand Mace. His whole attitude is "meh". He doesn't like guys and even after he changes his mind and mates with Roan he's still not really into it. He just doesn't seem to care, at all.
I started this series with book 4 then 5. I then went to the beginning with book 1 and carried on from there. I have loved every book in this series. 🥰
1.5 stars This one had too many problems for my liking, apart from very poor psychology, lack of research and ignoring cultural variation, what bothered me the most was Roan's contradicting style of speech. Some times he was using sophisticated language and other times he wouldn't even know simple idioms and every day expressions in his own language! His behavior also lacked any logical patterns. And even worse the resolution to the last conflict, the prosecution officer, was beyond simplistic and extremely flawed. In my opinion it had a lot of potential but the plot execution was rather poor.
This was an amazing read and the chemistry between Mace and Roan was sizzling!! It was hilarious to see the big bad Mace be brought down not only by an omega but a male as well. I LOVED this story and I was glad to see Roan had a back bone and was feisty when protecting his mate. I enjoyed Roans friendship with Kalel who we also got to know better in this book and found he was quite a character himself. ;-) Looking forward to Trent's story.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Roan was a very immature, sexually abused naive young man. He falls for brusque, clueless, straight cop Mace. They not only don't understand eachother, but didn't seem to be a very good fit. I honestly prefer characters with more chemistry where the relationship was balanced. This isn't one of those books. Mace pretty much acts and behaves straight, right down to oggling women. His excuse being he doesn't know how to behave is just a bit silly.
Roan, might've interested me, once he was on the way to recovery but I felt he needed to be more independent and mature before engaging in a relationship. He seemed an abused child which made the story feel somewhat... Creepy.
His refusal to try to bring down his old alpha... Was inexplicable.
Overall, it was nice to see some of the old characters but felt that Roan had more in common with Kalel the cat, than either of them had with their own mates.
I felt the story wasn't very hot, due to this weird relationship imbalance.

Mace works with two wolf shifters in homicide so he knows about shifters and is even a honorary pack member. Unknowingly he arrests and jails a homeless young wolf shifter who turns out to be his mate. While visiting pack members they smell the wolf on him and go with Mace to get him out of jail. Roan is an omega wolf and wants to stay with Mace but is sent off to the pack house and really feels upset by his mate's rejection. Mace, a really hard boiled detective feels the mating pull and can't stay away. Mace hasn't got a romantic bone in his body and keeps saying the wrong thing. It is almost painful for the reader to see how inept Mace is at loving his mate but he does get there. There is definitely angst and danger but we do get our HEA.
I always enjoy Lisa Oliver's stories - easily read books that allow one to forget the day and dwell in a fantasy world for a while. This one passed all too quickly and set the scene for the next in the series. In this book, Mace (human) is attracted to a young shifter but even though he has shifter friends, he doesn't see himself with one as a partner - especially a twink!! But hormones take charge and Mace and Roan become an item or would if Mace didn't keep putting his foot in it. While hiding from the world and Mace who doesn't seem to want him, Roan sees a serial murderer that Mace and his fellow cops are hunting. Unfortunately Roan is in shifter form at the time - did he see, smell and hear enough to help? 4 stars
This was the first book of the series I have ever read, but I wasn't the slightest bit confused. I am going to be going back and reading the first two because I enjoyed this one a lot. Mace is a cop and human, but he is no stranger to the shifter world. But it is a little surprising to him that the shoplifter he arrests says that he is his mate. Roan is an omega and was born to be sold as a slave. Meeting Mace and his friends throw everything he believes out of control. He now has a mate and friends, instead of a Master. It was a little insta-love, but I love mating and OFY, so this was perfect! Throw in the little murder mystery in the background and it was a great book! Hot, sweet, romantic, it had it all.
Someone could easily wonder why did I read this book knowing I dnf'ed the first book last year and skipped book 2 (which is a menage book and it's not my thing). Why? Because sometimes I want a simple plot with my favourite tropes turned on 11. Lisa Oliver's books are that kind of books for me because I never go for her books expecting an amazing plot and et cetera. No, I go for them for the romance, the shifters, the insta-love, the Fated Mates, the sex scenes. And this book delivered that! There are better gay shifter romance or gay paranormal books in general out there (i.e. The Demon's in the Details by Meghan Maslow, the Soulbound series by Hailey Turner) but I guess you could say most of Lisa Oliver's books are my guilty pleasure reads.
1.5 stars audio book: Audio quality: Good, Narration Good This book had too many problems for my liking, apart from very poor psychology, lack of research and ignoring cultural variation, what bothered me the most was Roan's contradicting style of speech.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I really liked that Mace and Roan didn't just jump in and have a successful relationship because there were things they needed to work out. They were able to work through the kinks they had and that made it very realistic. While I kind of liked the serial killer subplot there were times it just didn't fit with the story and felt forced when Roan became so involved in the case. Other than those certain points I really enjoyed reading this book and seeing more of the other Stockton Wolves.
This book is absolutely 100% (in my opinion) the author writing her fantasies.
A notorious skirt chasing cop suddenly finds himself with a male fated mate. Not once has he ever looked at a guy and thought Mmmm. But somehow overcomes his own problems of ideas of men and claims the guy.
A very typical early Lisa Oliver work.
Just painful reading about straight men being forced to turn gay. It honestly makes no sense.
K, I see the reasoning behind not pursuing the old Roan pack Alpha. But I see it as a total cop out. It is not because I think revenge would solve anything. I am happy for Roan. But the other victims? No way can their suffering be ignored by good people, and this pack is good people. Well good non human people.
This was an awesome read, and I'm definitely going to be reading the next book in this series. My heart felt for Roan , and I truly understood why the Dates chose Mace as his mate. Their backgrounds made them perfect for each other. It was so well written that it kept me engrossed and I hated to put it down for even a second.
Hard not to judge Mace really hard. Stuff like stumbling over coming out and fated mates made sense. But if I had a fated mate who had spent his life as a slave, I would be really careful about sex and relationship dynamics. Mace was almost intentionally ignorant when it came to how much Roan struggled with their relationship.

It was ok. Mace was almost unredeemable to me, because even though you can give him a pass for not knowing wolfy things, he still acted annoying even from human standards. But things came together at the end, so yay for the HFN. The story could also have benefited from some grammar/typo checking.
Mace was such an ass in the beginning and I wanted to crawl into my e-reader and smack the crap out of him. But he owned and he made right by his mate. Okay he did screw up a couple of times. He was the perfect mate for Roan!!!! Off to the next one.
Personnages unidimensionnels, histoire basique et précipitée. On n'a ni le temps de s'attacher à un personnage, ni de ressentir une émotion avant que le récit n'avance. Sans parler de la traduction française qui est horrible. Je regrette beaucoup mon achat.
Excellent read. This story is with a Human and a Wolf Shifter, where they are learning about each other and how they fit. Its delightful! Hopefully more stories in this Series.
