Okay, but disjointed

This men's daily devotional, a collection of snippets from several of Arterburn's other books, is good for men seeking a closer relationship with God. The readings focus on relying on God to find a sense of peace and balance in a man's spiritual, sexual, and familial life. These readings are good, but the drawback is that they don't always flow from one to the next. As they're pulled from a number of Arterburn's books, the readings' intended audience often varies (young men, single men, married men, etc.). Some readings include a supporting Bible verse, but most do not. I did appreciate that one or two readings a month consisted of a prayer instead of an excerpt. This helped to break things up, and in some cases did serve to tie together the disparate readings, but this result was not consistent.

This book has been a great way for me to start my day, keeping me focused on purity and encouraging me to continue to stay in the fight. I (and probably most guys) am wired to easily fall into thought patterns that do not fit who I am in Christ. I have trouble keeping my eyes on my true desires, and this daily devotion keeps feeding my "why" and strengthening my resolve. I don't think I will (ever?) mark this book as read; when I finish I will simply re-start at the beginning and read it again. I find myself having to restrict myself from reading more than one day since I am anxious to see the next day's thought. That tells me I am really enjoying it's wisdom.

This book is very different from the series above. There is a page or less per day. Every page is an excerpt from one of the many books in the ‘Everyman’s’ series. The list of books drawn from is:

Every Man’s Battle
Every Heart Restored
Every Man’s Challenge
Every Man, God’s Man
Every Man’s Marriage
Every Young Man’s Battle

Each of these readings is specifically geared towards a man who is desiring to be growing and becoming the man God has called him to be, in area’s of love and service to his wife and children, work, self control … These readings though small will provoke thought and challenge one to step up and make changes in their lives for the better.

This devotional on a daily basis is mediocre at best. It's theology is weak. It is a one minute stir of a thought regarding your life and how God fits into the grand scheme. It's redeeming value is that it really drives home a mans, especially a married mans sexual purity in every aspect of his sexuality. The book titled Every Mans Battle, one of the handful of books this devotional draws from is probably a good-read!

This book is really good. It helps keep me focused on being a Godly man. The only reason I give this 4 and not 5 stars is that there isn't scripture suggestions every day. Many days DO include related verses, but not every day. This was a little disappointing, but not enough that I wouldn't suggest this book to any man I know.
