FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE TEAM REAPER SERIES COMES KANE…
When John ‘Reaper’ Kane is forced to gun down a fourteen-year-old boy in self-defense, the combat-weary warrior becomes disillusioned with the endless cycle of blood and violence his life has become.
He goes off-grid in the remote mountain town of Vesper Lake for a week of soul-searching, but when he steps in to help a young woman from being molested, his two-fisted interference finds him running afoul of the local sheriff. In the violent aftermath, he discovers that the town suffers under the crushing stranglehold of Nazareno ‘The Nazarene Dragon’ Pedregon, a ruthless drug lord commanding his criminal empire from inside Black Bog Federal Prison, a cesspool of death and corruption.
Framed for murder, Kane is dragged into the prison and forced to fight for his life when Nazareno finds out who he really is. After surviving a series of brutal, kill-or-be-killed battles, Kane pulls off a brazen escape and flees into the deep, unforgiving woods of the Adirondack Mountains, hunted by both a prison special operations team and cartel kill-squads.
Alone, exhausted, and outgunned, with enemies closing in on all sides, the odds are stacked against him. But when the hunt turns primal, Kane knows that the only way to survive is by tooth and nail.
“Visceral, unforgiving violence that takes no prisoners.”

Familiar plot. Highly trained operator takes on corrupt sheriff and drug cartel leader. Lots of action without much of a real story. A lot of "skip over" material.
Those who like action thrillers with a high body count, very evil villains, and a protagonist who befriends both a wolf and a grizzly, this is right up your alley. A couple of interesting side characters give a little bit of humor to the story.
"Tooth and Nail" by Mark Allen, the first installment of the "Fear the Reaper" series, thrusts readers into a relentless world of adrenaline-pumping action. Protagonist John Kane, also known as Reaper, is a special operative seeking a break from the chaos of his life, but he quickly finds himself ensnared in a web of guns, drugs, and a vengeful local sheriff.
Allen masterfully weaves a gripping narrative as Sheriff's vendetta leads to Reaper being framed for murder, landing him in a nightmarish prison run by a sadistic warden. From the outset, the novel is a rollercoaster ride filled with relentless combat, unapologetic violence, and an escalating body count.
Readers who revel in no-holds-barred action thrillers will be in their element as they accompany Reaper on his relentless quest for survival. "Tooth and Nail" delivers unrelenting suspense and high-octane excitement from start to finish, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.
Another ball hit out of the ballpark from Mark Allen. This new series appears to concentrate on stories about Kane without his Reaper team.
You can't go wrong with a crooked cop, a prison run by a notorious drug lord, killer sicarios, gunfights and unusual friends. And here is Kane in the middle of it all.
Can he survive it all? Read it to find out. And if you haven't yet read any of the books in the Reaper series, you will soon after reading this book. You won't be disappointed in any of these books!
Talk about action. WOW. I'm a 67 year old woman that loves a good vigilante book. Doesn't matter how much blood and guts, if the good guys win I'm a happy reader. In this book he made me feel his anger and rage. I was right there with him. He had some delightful kooky characters that I truly enjoyed and some of the worst evil characters that I've ever read. I recommend to anyone who enjoys a fast pace action killer book.
“Tooth & Nail”isn’t Kipling”, Yet its message is the same, For it’s still about the carnage, Yet again the “Reaper”, shoulders all the blame.
Now the bodies have been buried, The villains all laid to rest, Now it’s a time for the author’s to do what they do best, Send forth again the “Reaper” on yet another quest.
Yes. I recommend this book with its interesting storyline. A storyline used by many authors, however authors Mark Allen & Brent Towns have used it to perfection.
The first Reaper solo book. He justed wanted to clear his head after he had to kill a boy and rented a cabin in the woods near a small town. However the town is ruled by a druglord and even the sheriff works for him and John Kane gets into their crosshairs...They chose the wrong man. A very violent and entertaining novel awaits the reader.
I really wish this is the start of a new series. And going by the title of the book it looks like it just might be. This was one action packed book from almost the first page right up to the last page, and I finished it in an afternoon. I really enjoyed it that much.
If you love John Wick then would absolutely love this book. Non stop action. Love that Reaper has his own book. Looking forward to reading more in this series
Definitely a page turner for me . John Kane aka Reaper has a conscience and moral compass and after his last mission he needs to decompress a little . His vacation to a cabin back in the woods , doesn't exactly turn out like he planned . What follows is a series of " wrong place wrong time " situations that only Kane can handle .
What a suspenseful book from an author that just keeps getting better all the time. Getting tired of fighting, Kane goes to clear his head. Unfortunately trouble always follows. The characters and the plot are totally intriguing. Don’t miss out once it’s released.
John "Reaper" Kane goes off on a single retreat to think about his life and whether or not he still has "it" to succeed in his line of work. Unfortunately, there is no solace to be found here, and instead, he finds himself fighting for his life in the mountains of New York. A cartel kingpin is living in luxury - in prison - and continues to run his successful business from there; the warden, local Sheriff, government officials, and enforcers are all on his payroll. The local populace is afraid and continues to do what they are told. On his first night in town, Kane comes to the aid of a waitress who is harassed by two men. His action places a giant bullseye on his back, and the drug czar wants Kane dead. The war is about to start.
This was my first foray into John Kane's world and I was thrilled by what this man accomplished here. I am definitely a fan at this point and can't wait to read the next chapter in his life.
I like Reaper but this tale was unbelievable from the get go. Kane goes away to find himself and of course ends up in a mountain town controlled by a crooked sheriff, his evil sons and the Cartel. Gore galore and pure fiction. Twenty years in corrections and the prison scenes were laughable, insulting and stupid. The cast of characters was also a joke, the kind hearted cannibal mountain man with the pet wolf, the grizzly bear who had some mental connection with Kane and the cabin landlord who just happened to have an arsenal in the basement plus the cartel chief with his Jesus complex. I don't like not finishing a book so I did finish this but it wasn't fun. I expect better from the authors.
Think you can be a law enforcement officer and in the course of your job you are forced, in a kill-or-be-killed scenario, to shoot a teenager? You might think you could but the Reaper couldn't. He needed some time away to decompress and deal with his grief. While decompressing Kane stumbles into a town run by a corrupt Sheriff and a penitentiary being ruled by a Cartel boss that has turned the prison into his own killing field and base of operations. Kane can only do so much about all the violence and corruption but when a woman who befriends his is raped and murdered by the Sheriff and his son he cannot stand idly by, he has to take action.
Reaper with or without his team is a deadly force and the bad guys are going to find out the hard way. Justice must be upheld when Kane finds himself in a little town with a major drug problem and the local prison is run by a major player in the drug cartels who has the warden and prison officers under control. The local sheriff stirs up trouble when he arrests Kane for a crime he did not commit and puts him in the prison , expecting him to be killed, but he does not know Kane and his abilities.
Lots of excitement and anticipation. Kane (Reaper) is a bona fide badass. Ethically murderous, and physically superior to all who dare challenge him or harm those that are near. Probably not the best role model but honorable enough for me. Enjoyed the book. Only disappointment was the far too quick death of the Nazarene. He didn't suffer nearly enough.
This was a bit over the top silly. Excess gore and violence, really bad guys, a fun prison environment, cartels, and mental healing with a sexy red head. This was predictable, and quite silly. Keep the expectations low, and this will be fun, albeit overly gory. Bad guys all die, Kane takes on the world, blah, blah.
A very dumb book. Full of graphic violence, rape (horrible treatment of women) and really awful plot lines and scenes (I highlighted one where Kane faced off vs. A grizzly. Hall of fame bad)
Dumber. Yes, I am dumber for reading it. Should of Been a dnf. But it became so bad I had to finish.
'Kane: Tooth & Nail' really had my emotions running haywire. I've never felt so much hated for characters as I have reading this book. That's great writing to me. I truly enjoyed the start to a new series for Kane. Definitely a good add to your tbr list.
I loved this first book in the John Kane series. The action keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. Looking forward to reading more of them.
