TW: suicidal thoughts, depression
Mikoto Ochiai wants to end her life after she got rejected by the person she likes. But on the roof of her school, she meets her teacher Jin Haiba, who comes up with a proposition. That before she dies, she tries to live a love story with him.
I’ve previously read The Story of Our Unlikely Love which is a short two volumes series by the author. I’ve liked it enough, even though it wasn’t groundbreaking, to try to read another one of her series. I’m really peculiar when it comes to art style, but I remember liking hers, so I was down for another of her series. When I picked it up, I didn’t know that the manga portrayed a relationship between a high school student and her teacher (that’s my fault for not reading the synopsis before buying something). I was just curious when I saw that this one was translated into French.
I’m not going to lie, I think I would have enjoyed the story if it was between two teenagers. I just can’t condone a manga that portrays a relationship between an underage girl and her adult teacher. If only it was the sole issue. A couple of pages in and Haiba already talks about her breast. Basically saying that the guy who rejected her is an idiot because she got big breasts. Really?! What am I supposed to feel except being grossed out by this behavior? There is nothing romantic whatsoever here. Moreover, he confesses later on that he is in love with her and that he wants to seduce her. All of this is occurring while she is about to jump from the rooftop of her school. What is Sora Mizuki trying to convey exactly here? That it’s okay for a teacher and student to be in a relationship if the teacher is in love with her? If it wasn’t enough, he is a controlling person who tells her not to hang out with guys who are her age (they might try to seduce her) and to quit the play she is doing. There is really nothing redeemable about this character. I’m horrified that this manga got translated.
The dialogues weren’t good either. They are dull. We are dealing with someone who is depressed and wants to kill herself and yet, Haiba is talking about it in a light way as if it wasn’t a big deal, which I didn’t like.
I really don’t understand the hype surrounding it and all the high ratings because, except for the art style, there was nothing good at all.

I have mixed emotions about Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoushi (Love Me Before You Die). However, I won’t give this less than 3 stars since I’ve read more upsetting age-gap romances. It seems like there’s no real reason to make the male lead the girl’s teacher, outside of making it a more taboo romance. The story could’ve easily worked if he was simply another student in her class, or from a different class.
I have mixed emotions about the teacher is being a flirt and doing inappropriate things to his female student, but, he doesn’t put any real pressure on the girl or use his position of power against her.
Also, I read this first volume through online translated scans since there’s no official English translation.

Ma soeur est totalement fan de cette série et m'a encouragé a l'essayer aussi. Si les dessins sont plutôt joli, je dois dire que je ressens un malaise en lisant le manga ? Alors ce n'est pas que je sois sensible plus que de mesure, je lis mon lot de truc tordu, mais un manga destiné aux jeunes filles, qui relate l'histoire d'un enseignant draguant son étudiante, afin de l'empêcher de se suicider suite a un rejet de la part d'un camarade de classe... C'est un peu limite pour moi. Encore que si c'était elle qui c'était intéressé a lui, suite a son aide, ça ne me dérangerait pas ? Mais dans ce cas ci, c'est l'adulte qui propose a son étudiante de tomber amoureuse de lui et qui passe son temps a flirter avec les limites de ce qui est acceptable. 😅

Une lecture sympa et de beaux dessins mais je n'ai pas toujours été à l'aise avec cette relation et les attitudes vraiment limites du prof à l'encontre de son élève. Ma fille voulait que je le lise, c'est chose faite... Il y a des moments drôles et touchants et d'autres assez malaisants à mon sens.

3,5 étoiles - L’histoire démarre de manière douce et est vraiment intéressante à suivre avec des héros aux différentes aspérités que l’on a envie de gratter pour découvrir ce qui se cache derrière. Et pour parfaire tout ça, je trouve les graphismes très plaisants, même si ça manque un peu de décors à mon goût.
En bref, j’ai bien aimé et ça m’a donné envie d’enchainer avec le tome 2 qui était déjà dans ma PAL.

No os voy a mentir, empecé a leer este manga porque me salió una de las páginas en Pinterest y me pareció divertido. Y no me arrepiento de haberlo leído, porque me ha parecido bastante interesante y tiene sus momentos divertidos. En verdad, es un tanto diferente, ya que es una relación entre un profesor y una alumna, y si mal no voy, en todo el mundo es algo que no puede pasar. Pero des de mi punto de vista, y si defender ninguna de las dos posturas, los sentimientos son muy difíciles de controlar, y en este primer tomo, como mínimo, no parece solo una atracción carnal, e incluso diría que los pasados de ambos protagonistas son bastante más profundos de lo que parece.
El caso, que no es una historia muy seria, pero sin embargo sí que aparecen temas muy serios. Da la sensación que intenta quitarle un poco de peso, pero al mismo tiempo sin ser temas tabúes.
Bueno, estos son mis pensamientos sobre el primer tomo, muchos pueden estar equivocados, y a lo mejor no me sigue gustando, pero por el momento voy a seguir leyendo el siguiente tomo.

Sebenernya manga ini udah aku baca tahun lalu, tapi karena saking serunya aku baca ulang dan astaga ternyata masih seru, nangis banget:( terlepas dari romance antara Haijin dan JK yang sweet abis, humor yang selalu terselip pun emang selalu bisa bikin aku heran kenapa lucu banget, humor berbalut ironi kehidpan, rasa depresi dan satir ini malah lebih efektif untuk memberitahu bagaimana sih sebenarnya makna dari perjalanan hidup, bertumbuh dan berkembang, serta berteman dengan seseorang yang baru.
Genre shoujo yang bener-bener fresh! nggak se-klise lainnya. Sampe tamat aku bakal tetep ngeship Haijin x JK kok :)))
TAPI. Meskipun aku kasih 5 dari 5, beberapa hal emang mungkin perlu diperhatikan, seperti sifat Haijin yang agak-agak nyerempet manipulatif, dan maksa yang berkedok kindess dan mungkin beberapa hal mesti ada peringatan suicidal warningnya agar supaya nggak begitu mengejutkan pembaca.

Mich hat die Romanze zwischen Mikoto und ihrem Lehrer ziemlich schnell abgeschreckt. Jede Annäherung seinerseits hat sich verboten und falsch angefühlt, aber gerade das scheint zu dem Erfolg des Mangas beizutragen. Sein Verhalten ist in meinen Augen einfach nur unheimlich und abstoßend. Einmal zum Beispiel, spaziert er unangemeldet in ihre Wohnung, da sie vergessen hat abzuschließen. In einem anderen Kapitel redet er ihr den Umgang mit einem gleichaltrigen Schüler aus, da es ihn eifersüchtig macht. Von seinem Stalking will ich gar nicht erst anfangen. Dennoch macht mich die verworrene Vergangenheit des Lehrers neugierig. Ich frage mich, ob es nicht einen Grund für sein Verhalten gibt.

Mikoto will sich aus Liebeskummer vom Dach stürzen, doch da taucht ihr Lehrer Jin Haiba auf und hält sie davon ab. Dabei lässt er den Spruch “Lieb mich noch, bevor du wirst” fallen und seitdem drehen sich Mikotos Gedanken sehr viel um ihn.
Ja, so fängt diese Lehrer-Schüler-Beziehung an. Für einige ist sowas ja oft ein No-Go, ich find's bei fiktiven Geschichten nicht weiter schlimm. Außerdem kommt's auch noch ein wenig auf den weiteren Context an - bisher ist das eher ziemlich harmlos.
Mikoto hat einen eher düsteren Charakter und Jin scheint früher sehr ähnlich gewesen zu sein - weswegen er sie sehr gut versteht und sich wohl auch zu ihr hingezogen fühlt!? So ganz ersichtlich ist es bisher noch nicht. Dazu gibt's auch ne Prise (schwarzen) Humor, was einen sehr zum Schmunzeln bringt, haha.

Je me baladais sur piccoma et j'ai vu le tome 1 gratuit alors j'ai lu. Vraiment par ennui et ça me donne une bonne raison de me faire un avis dessus. L'auteur est fort... il réussi par l'humour à rendre une histoire assez malsaine plutôt appréciable en un sens. Les relations profs/élèves ne sont et ne seront jamais saines surtout que là les deux sont à la base pas très sains d'esprit...
En toute honnêteté je ne sais pas trop ce que j'en pense. Bien que ce ne soit pas déroutant il reste un malaise vis à vis du comportement du prof. Je ne pense pas lire la suite un jour mais c'est pas si mauvais (si quelqu'un me dit qu'ils ne sortiront jamais ensemble peut être que je lirais)

Coup de cœur ! Ça faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas autant apprécié une histoire dans un manga ! Celle-ci est touchante, amusante mais également mature. C'est très agréable à lire. Les histoires d'amour dans les mangas ont tendance à être rapide, sans saveurs et naïve. Pour le moment ici c'est bien le contraire. Les personnages principaux sont incroyables ! Je les adore tous les deux. Ils ont un caractère très opposé qui leur va si bien ! On est qu'au premier tome et pourtant la complicité est déjà très présente. J'ai bien fait d'acheter les 9 premiers tomes avant de lire ce tome 1 ! Je sais que je peux enchaîner quand je veux maintenant !

I don't like teacher-student romances anymore.. I think when I was younger I did, not sure. But the LA series of this drama had a great reception so I watched it and I liked it.
I think it is because it does not necessarily romanticize this trope.. it is about something as heavy as suicide and depression but it also has a dark humor. So everything works. Yes, the teacher is flirty but most of the times the student cuts him off with a deadpan expression, and I don't know, both heal each other in some way.

Je ne suis pas fan de la trope prof x élève de base mais j'ai trouvé les sept premiers tomes de cette saga en vide grenier à 7€ alors j'ai voulu tenter.
En lisant le résumé je pensais qu'on parlerai davantage de la mort et des conséquences de celle-ci, des pensées noires et des agissements maladifs qui vont avec, au final on en parle mais de façon assez détachée donc j'avoue être un peu mitigée...
J'ai pour le moment un peu de mal a entrer dans l'histoire mais je pense qu'elle a un vrai potentiel, plus humoristique que sérieux au final mais j'attends de voir la suite.

Schon bissl befremdlich. Eine Liebeskomödie mit Schülerin und Lehrer. Auch das ganze mit der Suizidthematik ist heikel. Sollte vermutlich von Jugendlichen nicht gelesen werden 🤷 wenn man den Altersunterschied außer Acht lässt, ist's aber sehr unterhaltsam. Ich hab aber auch keinerlei psychische Probleme, was Suizidgedanken oder Depressionen angeht. Wer da beeinträchtigt ist, sollte den Manga nicht aufnehmen.

Une romance élève / professeur. Je pense que dans un roman, une telle différence d'âge m'aurait perturbée mais dans ce manga, je n'en avais pas tant conscience. Si on devine l'âge d'une lycéenne, celui de son prof reste à déduire. Je suppose que cela m'a aidé à me détacher de ce trope (âge gap) que je n'aime pas trop.
Le fait que ce soit un prof et une élève (de lycée de surcroît, probablement mineure donc) peut choquer je suppose. Une fois encore, le format manga fait que je ne me suis pas arrêtée à ça. Alors ok dans la vraie vie, ça me ferait tiquer mais la littérature est là pour ça, chacun a le droit de fantasmer à sa guise. Ici, l'envie de l'auteur de mettre en scène un tel couple m'a fait passer un bon moment.
Que l'histoire prenne appui sur la dépression de la jeune fille me plaît également. Je comprends que ce soit plaisant d'avoir quelqu'un qui te distrait de ta morosité. Le côté intrusif et possessif pourrait être ressenti comme malsain. Perso, je trouve que son “forcing” est plutôt de la bonne intention maladroite. Pour la possessivité, beaucoup de lectrices adorent ça dans les romans, alors pourquoi pas dans les mangas. Pour ma part, je trouve que c'est plus un côté protecteur, j'ai l'impression qu'il cherche à lui éviter de nouvelles déconvenues qui la blesseraient alors qu'elle est encore fragile. Il est quand même satisfait de cette exclusivité mais je ne la vois pas comme malsaine.
Chaque tome contient plusieurs épisodes et chaque épisode tourne autour d'une anecdote qui nous permet d'apprendre à connaître ce duo et de voir évoluer leur relation. C'est sympa.

Picked it up in my teens. Still love it.
Absolutely condoning a relationship between an adult and an underage girl.
But! The Manga clearly points out the intentional creepy behaviour of Jin, tbh the only reason I love this manga is because it‘s SO FUNNY LMAO
Mikoto constantly roasts him (so does everyone else)

My absolute favorite piece of paper to ever exist, nothing will ever be better than the story of those two beautiful souls. Their thinking is so deep and relatable, the art is immaculate and I fell in love with both of them.
PS: I know some people are against age gap things but sometimes y’all are really missing out and I hope you can be more open one day when it’s about fictional characters that are not real.

Un gros coup de coeur! Mon tout premier sojo et j'ai tellement aimer.
J'ai beaucoup aimer la relation des deux personnages, la sensibilité, le sujet qu'on aborde qui est le suicide et l'amour prof-élève.
J'ai hâte de voir évoluer leurs relation.
Un manga très addictif.
J'ai pas envie de lire tout de suite le tome 2 car je sais que je n'ai pas la suite .

If you can get pass the ridiculous premise of “suicide cause of love” and “student-teacher romance”, you might actually enjoy this manga.
I watched the live action first, didn’t expect anything, but ended up loving every episodes.
The manga is also great, I enjoy it thoroughly 🖤

J'ai trouvé certains passages un peu malaisant: le prof qui s'impose autant dans la vie de son élève et qui débarque chez elle comme ça.... Visuellement ce shojo est très agréable, même si je ne vois pas une grande différence d'âge entre les deux protagonistes. J'ai quand même envie de laisser sa chance à la saga, je pense qu'il y a matière à creuser au sujet de la dépression et du suicide.

2,5 Sterne. Um ehrlich zu sein ist es nicht kacke. Aber ich find die Lehrer Sache so weird. Wie alt soll er sein? 30?! Und sie 17?! Das ist so weird und macht mir bisschen den Spaß am Lesen kaputt. Es hätte doch auch einfach ein anderer Dude von ihrer Schule sein können, anstatt ihr Lehrer. Very mixed feelings.
