Knife's Edge

Finding her could kill me

Nature created the five of us to save this dying planet and forge a balance between mankind and nature.
Now we’re pitted against each other. War and me, against Famine and Death.
We tried to talk to them, bring them over to our side.
They refused… then they made it personal.

Now I need to find the only one who can fix all this and stop the apocalypse.
Primal; the most powerful of Mother Nature’s Forces.
She disappeared, went off the grid decades ago with a very clear warning. “Don’t try to find me!”
Well, I’m trying.
I have no choice, I have to locate her.
Then comes the real challenge:
I have to stay alive long enough to convince her to come back.

Wow. Didn’t think it could get any better, but it did. Intriguing, action to make you keep on reading. Loved the characters and the roles they played in the story. Too bad it’s the last.

Monique Singleton has given us a fantastic series and now provided us with a magnificent ending. The balance between mother nature and humanity has been wrecked, so much so that the mother can hardly appear any more, she is so weakened. Her forces of death and famine are out there wrecking havoc through pestilence, poverty and hunger and becoming richer through massive selling of drugs. Jess, who was the Primal had gone rogue and disappeared off the grid after she lost her partner Panat in the massacre which Joseph had unleashed. Now the two other forces, War and Conquest were under threat, Kane had already lost his wife and his baby daughter was in a coma infected by the black plague and he needed to find Jess before he lost Lani. Kane knew that he was risking his own life when he went in search of Jess who did not want to be found but he put his child's life before his own. When Jess returned to the mother she knew she had to accept the role she had been chosen for and act accordingly. The mother needed her forces and her forces needed the mother, balance had to be regained for the planet and humanity to survive. Thank you Monique Singleton for this beautiful and strong series which is so in tune with today's ecological problems, portraying this through such a strong cast of characters, using the myth of the forces of the apocalypse and turning these into the forces of nature and then giving us such a strong finale. Well done.

The Forces of Nature!

Kane has a score to settle in his old life before he can move on with his new one as Conquest, a Force of Mother Nature’s. Revenging his mother’s death should be more satisfying but all it does is point out how much he has lost, and for such a pathetic reason. Saving the world and restoring Mother’s strength at least gives him a real purpose, but to accomplish that he will need the help of Adam - War – and the other two Riders that are incognito somewhere on earth. It will also mean bringing Jess – Primal – back into the fold and she has the power and skills to kill anyone who violates her mandate for privacy; even immortals like the four Forces.

This is a unique plot with action and heroics as well as good characters. The protagonists are strong with a strong element of humanity’s best traits but enough weaknesses to allow the reader to sympathize and identify with them. The ending left room for one more book since there is a gap in the Forces left by Famine.

The end

This was the first time reading the author's work, I found her storyline different with originality the first four books was about Jess this book started of with kane for most of the book. It is very deep and complexed at times with them being long lived immortals time pass a lot could be 4 years or 40 sometimes that was unclear until later but then unsure at times (could of done a little more fine tuning on timelines for us mortals) for me plenty of crying in this book the pain felt real so much I sobbed plenty the loneliness is felt though the pages and pain. I guess there was a slow burn love story in the end but had to be with others first.(lucky them get more than one lifetime)

My only problem was what was her name she was born with? She picked Jess in the end the name Jack gave her. (Because she would not give her friend her real birth name)

I enjoyed this series this author do think outside the box with storylines, I will read more from Monique again.

The ending did end so they could come back, continue the series.

best series in a long time

I’ve been searching for another good series for a while. Imagine my delight when I found a fantastic one! Great depth of character development, the books do NOT repeat any of the scenarios as so many series do. It’s one long, intertwined story, with interesting and amazing twists and turns all along the way. Read the whole series in three days, only put it down to sleep. Well, ok, and vacuuming the house for my wife, but you know how that is.

Thanks, Monique! I’ll have to check out the next series.

Great series

This was an awesome ending(?) to a great seriies of books. But us it truly the end? Doesn't balance require all of the Forces? How can there be balance without another Famine? Can't wait to see where this goes.
