He was mine for ten years, and now he belongs to Hollywood.

Spencer Lowe, Hollywood’s newest golden boy, has hit the big time. Coming from a small town in England, he never imagined starring in a movie or becoming a household name. Offers from producers come as fast as offers from women.

Indie has been in love with her best friend for years, and their short-lived love affair was the best time of her life, but she had let him go so he could follow his dreams. Now she’s alone, stuck inside a nightmare she keeps hidden.

With the premiere of Spencer’s first movie coming up, he books a ticket for Indie and takes her to LA. She wants to give in to their chemistry and dive back into a relationship with Spencer, but if she does, she risks exposing the family secret she’s been guarding her whole life.

Just like the movies is a sweet romance with a secret. Spencer and Indie are best friends.

Spencer has made the big time and his acting career has taken off. He’s staying in LA while filming his debut. Indie is the girl he left behind. There almost relationship never happened. Now he’s trying to rekindle what they once had. Could these two still have feelings for each other? Can two people in different places both in life and location find the connection they both long for?

Indie has a secret and she doesn’t share it with anyone including Spencer. Her home life isn’t as perfect as her best friends and she doesn’t want him to see the ugly. Can Indie accept Spencer’s love when her home life is a secret?

This is the second book in the series but can easily be read as a standalone. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

I struggled with rating this book. It’s a strong 4 or a 5 if you like the deeper story. I’m not really an emotional reader and this has a great family side story to the romance.

Just like the movies is sweet and endearing.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

‘I would love nothing more than to be with him again. To be his officially. I want him so badly but there is no way to have him and not have everything that comes with dating a movie star.’

Just Like The movies is a new Hollywood friends to lovers romance from Natasha Preston which we couldn’t wait to dive in to. The friends to lovers’ aspect was brilliantly written, especially from Spencer’s pov. This man loved hard and there was literally no drama or angst from his voice. He was such a wonderful character and a rising Hollywood star whose career is just beginning but whose fame is already widespread. How can two friends, one being a movie star and the other an emotionally damaged Uni student possibly have a romantic relationship without the world interfering?

‘Our lives are going in two different directions. It’s been like that for a while. I hate having an expiration date on our relationship. I’m on borrowed time.’

Spencer and Indie have been best friends for ten years, yet Indie has never in all that time divulged her home conditions, playing the avoidance game to keep him removed from this important part of her life. We were really surprised that this secret had been kept buried in a ‘best friend’ relationship and had to question the strength of friendship and honesty. The connection was written with strength and conviction in everything but that.

‘They can’t understand why I broke up with Spencer. It had to happen. He can’t be chained to the train wreck girl from his childhood.’

‘I’ve spent every day since I was six wondering why my parents love alcohol more than me.’

Spencer moves to Hollywood when he secures a part in a big upcoming movie, leaving a heartbroken Indie behind. A few years pass with barely any communication, however, neither has forgotten the love that lies within their hearts. Spencer stole our hearts, his literally made of gold. He was rational and logical about his life as a movie star, his family values and he placed the importance of love, and happiness in the top of ranked importance. He was also gorgeous and so swoon-worthy! Indie misses her friend, the man she’s fallen in love with, however, she’s not brave enough to tell him just how she feels and she’s not willing to enter a fan frenzy where her secrets can be exposed.

‘When you love someone more than anything in the world, you don’t let them give up their dream.’

Indie was a tough nut to crack. Our hearts felt her struggle, the tragedy of her childhood and the fight she had on her hands. Having had that very brief ‘more than friends’ relationship with Spencer before he flew off to chase his dream, marked her. Her home-life and her love leaving the country, broke the pieces not already broken by her mum and dad. We will admit to having a bit of a ‘love-hate’ relationship with Indie at times. The broken became a tad too repetitive and the secret staying a secret wore us out a bit. However, we were championing her through every page to get her love and happiness.

“They can throw what they want, Indie. I’ll be coming home to you.”

So many aspects of Just Like the Movies felt unique. The way in which Spencer was written was super refreshing as was the easy drama free friendships and Hollywood life. Natasha Preston nailed the friends to lovers and whilst there was high angst and some drama it was also a super sweet and hot romance between soul mates.

“I’m not letting go, Indie. I’m here, and I’m going to make everything right, baby. I promise. I’ve got you.”

Spencer and Indie have been best friends since they were 11. They dated for a brief time. Indie is hiding a secret from everyone, living a double and tiring life. Spencer is a hit movie star. It was cute. But it had an awesome plot.

I knew when I started reading this book that I'd have to finish it in one go. Apart from a few interruptions to adult, this book consumed me for a good few hours.
Indie and Spencer story was gripping and beautiful.
This book was hard to read at points and I just wanted to shout at Indie and help her.
Spencer was just adorable.
As usual Natasha has written a beautiful story and has developed the characters with great care.
Now to wait patiently for the next book!!!

~ 3.5 Hollywood Stars ~

I haven’t read many books by Natasha Preston, but I have enjoyed each of them.

Just Like the Movies was an enjoyable friends to lovers Hollywood themed story. I just wish it WOW’ed me more. I absolutely LOVED Spencer and Indie’s BFF’s, but for some reason I really couldn’t connect as well with Indie (h) herself.

I think I just didn’t get the emotional connection with her like the author wanted us to. As the story went on I really just wanted to smack her and tell her wake up. I also didn’t feel she should’ve kept her secret about her home life a secret for as long as she did.

Like I said I enjoyed the friends to lovers storyline and I am a fan of the Hollywood movie star romance. I enjoyed this one because we didn’t see the normal stuff we usually seen in that type of story. It made this story feel unique and different from others I have read in this genre.

Just Like the Movies is the second book in her series of standalones. This book can be read as a complete standalone. We do see past characters from book one, but this book is in NO way a spoiler for that book, if read out of order. This story is told in Dual POV!! I will say that I felt the story dragged a little too much for my liking. I thought the story could’ve been shortened and not taken anything away from the book. Sometimes, in my opinion, a longer book isn’t always a better book. But just because this wasn’t a 5 star read for me, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go.

I have read two different sides to Natasha’s writing and I would say Just Like the Movies is her lighter side. If you like a great friends to lovers story this is one to read, but you should also try her suspenseful side!!

I would recommend this book to all romance readers. If you are looking for a low angst, little drama, but still has some of the emotional depth romance readers look for, give this book a try!!!

WHERE DO I START?!

Firstly, I love Spencer.

Secondly, I love Indie.

Thirdly, I love Spencer < < yes, he deserves a second mention.

Despite some heavy topics, their love and relationship, heck even their friendship, was an absolute joy to read. I loved the banter and flirting between them and how easy it is for them to be their true self with one another.

Spencer doesn't have to be "on" as the up and coming movie star and Indie doesn't need to be the poster child for a perfect upbringing and family-life.

This book has it all - swoon, sass, heartbreak, gut wrenching heartache, happiness, love and so much lust!!

And Mila. God love her straight talking! I am sooooo excited for her book next!! I love me a nerdy hero!!

Just like the movies

Wow wow wow, 🤩 Spencer and Indie’s story blew me away!!! you're in for a treat when it’s realised on the 3 July. I have read all of Natasha’s romance books and they just keep getting better!!

Spencer’s and indie’s story is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. (I’d recommend reading Wren and Brody’s story it’s amazing) Just like the movies was a fantastic emotional read filled with heartbreak, love and friendship that made me laugh and cry throughout. Natasha really makes you feel apart of the story I couldn’t put it down.

I loved the chemistry between Spencer and Indie Spencer is completely swoon-worthy.
Indies home life has been tough and she has kept it hidden from her friends including her best friend and true love Spencer Lowe since she met him at age eleven they have been inseparable, but when Spencer’s pursues a career in Hollywood they slowly drift apart but when Spencer hits big time he wants her by his side. But being Hollywoods golden boy brings media attention that threatened they’re relationship can they’re love hold up. Indie has a fantastic friendship group and the relationship between the 3 girls was awesome everyone needs a Mila to fight in their corner.

I loved seeing Wren and Brody return it was lovely to see how their relationship has grown. Mila’s story is next and I can’t wait!! Highly recommended this series

I laughed with the characters, felt the love of the characters and even cried along with them.

I love all of Natasha's books but this one has to be the best yet!!

I can't wait to read Mila's story!!

Indie & Spencer have been close friends for years, and the happiest time in her life is when they acted on the chemistry they had, but she let him go to follow his dreams of Hollywood. Now that Spencer has made it big, he wants her to be at his side, and while Indie wants that badly, she's also holding on to a dark secret about her family that she's not willing to reveal. I love romance with a Hollywood kicker as it just makes it that more intense since there are always paps involved to get my BP up adding in drama to the mix! These two people really had me emotional in several different ways since there was some stubbornness to keep the push & pull crazy frustrating. The cast of secondaries almost stole the whole show for me since they were so amazing, especially Indie's circle of friends. So, hit those one click buttons to experience this story to see if Indie & Spencer are making a go of a relationship! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Oh, Spencer. Spencer, Spencer, Spencer.

^^ That’s it. That’s my review. 😂

Okay, kidding, but I really love him. He’s so dreamy, down to earth, and so secure in who he is that you can’t HELP but love him. I want to run my hands through those curls of his. Swoon.

JLTM is the perfect partner to Waking Up in Vegas. I love this series and all the characters within, but I was really looking forward to this book because Indie and Spencer are perfect for each other. But that’s not enough in some love stories, and Indie is hiding secrets on top of secrets that no one can figure out.

What should be a simple relationship is complicated by outside forces, and nothing pisses me off more than other people getting in the way of true love, which is why I was glued to this story, desperate to know the outcome.

There are so many twists and turns that you won’t see coming. Your head spins for Indie and your heart aches for Spencer. It’s brilliant. And so are those sex scenes. Y-U-M-M-Y.

This book has everything from romance, drama, suspense, adventure, and steam, and while I know Tash Preston is better known for her YA thrillers, there’s no doubt that this girl knows how to write romance, too!

Loved it. Now give me the next book! I want to see what happens to Mila and Reid, god dammit.

I had all the feels in this book; pure, selfless, love, heartbreak, secrets and suffering in silence. All of this made for a maddeningly compulsive read that I just couldn’t put down. The story just flowed off the pages and into my heart, it was written that well.

Indie has two lives. She keeps her home life a complete secret from her friends and has done for years! I felt so desperately empathetic for poor Indie but I also couldn’t understand her not sharing her burden. What a wonderful character.

Spencer is what all men should be. He’s been Indie’s best friend for over a decade and is head over heels for this girl. She pushed him to become the movie star he is and I adore the way he loves her and all that he does for her.

There are so many triggers in this book which, to me, means it’s going to rip my heart open and I really love this kind of deep, meaningful story. It made my heart full and my head hurt at times. So, in other words; read this book!

"Just like in the movies the story ends in a HEA. Swoon. ""We're doomed to be side stories in each other's movies."" ~ Spenser

Indie and Spenser, best friends who will sacrifice everything for the other. Indie sent him away to follow his dream while she hid her secrets. Now Spenser is back and ready to claim Indie as his. The story has many heartbreaking moments and Indie is such a mentally strong character but emotionally wants to ""be enough"". I had moments when I just wanted to shake Indie to wake up, and luckily for us readers Indie's friends Mila and Wren only want what is best for Indie. Spenser's parents are also a good role model and support for both Spenser and Indie. This is an emotional, swoony second chance love story."

So I would like to thank Natasha and Kim her PA for sending me an e-arc of this book it is very much appreciated. I read the first book Waking Up In Vegas and loved it I fell in love with Brody and Wren's story and we saw a little bit of Indie and her trouble with Spencer and I was very excited when it came to Spencer and Indie's story I was there I was ready to read it because I was hooked.

Indie was an interesting character she was willing to do anything for anyone and be there for everyone. I think what breaks my heart is that behind Indie's kindness and loving she's hurting, she's in so much pain and nobody knows just how much pain she is in. It shows just how easy she manages to hide it and cover it all up pretending nothing was wrong. Honestly she is amazing and my heart was breaking for her all the way throughout this novel. I just wanted to jump in and hug her and hold her tight.

Spencer I liked his character I loved that although he was still a movie star and entering Hollywood he was still down to earth. That despite getting into the life when it comes to his coworkers/movie stars that he still talks about Indie and they all know how he feels about her and I love it.

I loved that we got dual point of view in this book it was so interesting seeing both Spencer and Indie's point of view. I love Natasha's writing and always will, it always grips me and keeps me hooked to her stories and I am always there whenever a new book is released.

One of my favourite scenes was seeing Spencer show Indie round L.A. and just how as soon as they were back together they finally told each other how they felt. I loved their relationship and how they felt about each other, I loved their ice skating date, the movie premiere it was all so cute. I loved their relationship.

Indie broke my heart through this she kept her home life a secret from everyone and just tried to push it away and not let anyone know about her home life, and honestly the stuff she had to deal with broke my heart and then when her dad died, and on top of dealing with that her mum goes to rehab and then the papers finding out about her home life which is how half of her friends hear. Then her mum dies and honestly it all just breaks my heart and I just wanted to wrap her in a ball and protect her from the world.

I think my only issue about this was that we never find out who leaked Indie's home life to the press.

When Indie tries to push away Spencer and all her friends it breaks my heart and it did make me cry. This book made me cry so many times whilst I was reading this. Natasha made me cry but yet again with this author that is not a surprise (especially if you've read Reliving Fate (still not over it, never will be over it) you know).

On another side note I loved seeing Wren and Brody again being all married and cute I live for it. I love that we got to see them again.

Overall a fantastic story that kept me hooked and I loved reading Indie and Spencer's story and I can't wait to read more from Natasha.

Five ‘must read’ stars is what I award Just Like the Movies. I have never not thoroughly enjoyed reading a book that Natasha Preston has written but this story is definitely one of my favourites.

I wasn’t prepared for all the emotions that this story would bring out in me and I found myself reaching for the tissues multiple times. I didn’t expect so many tears if I’m honest but how could I not get emotionally attached to these amazing characters, especially Indie who has been through so much over the years.

I have so much love and admiration for Indie. Her strength, love, commitment and determination are just some of the qualities I wish to highlight about this incredible young lady. What I learned about Indie broke my heart at times and I’m certain that you will feel the same way too.

Spencer is an amazing guy and I absolutely loved getting to know him. You could see just how perfect Indie and Spencer are for each other. They adore one another; they only have eyes for each other and I absolutely loved witnessing their interactions. They have a special connection that only the best of friends share. However, the deeper feelings that they have for each other are so much more than friendship, and I hoped that they would take the chance to become a couple and find the happiness that they both truly deserve.

Just Like the Movies is the second book in this series of standalones - Waking Up in Vegas being the first. Brody and Wren’s story is also incredible and I have loved spending some time with them again. The strong friendship that Indie, Wren and Mila have, showed me the importance of having someone in your life who will be there for you through the good times and the bad. I love the times when they are together, they ensured that I laughed and smiled lots too.

I recommend this fabulous story without hesitation. I was unable to put my kindle down once I started reading and I am certain that you will love Indie and Spencer’s story just as much as I do. I could spend all my time in the company of this group of friends and I cannot wait to read Mila’s story when it releases.

Spencer and Indie have been friends since the age of 11 and somehow has kept her home life a secret from everyone. How can she be in Spencers life now that he is a movie star, with all the media and attention from Hollywood? Will it reveal her true upbringing and how miserable she is being at home?

They both vowed to stay in close touch being so far away. It all seems like it's going downhill. Read and see how they rekindle their relationship with the obstacles they must overcome.

What a lovely book! With a charming friends to lovers storyline, Just Like the Movies made some difficult days infinitely more endurable. Spencer and Indie both needed a pinch on their bums to overcome their shyness and anxieties about admitting their feeling but in India's case, I could understand her trepidation about acknowledging the state of her home life to those around her. This has held her life in thrall for many years and she richly deserves to have more than a day in the sun.
With humour, sensitive acknowledgement of difficult issues, Just Like the Movies won me over and gave me the good times I expect from a read. Now: bring on Mila! 😍💖💖💖💖💖

Just Like The Movies is the second standalone book in Natasha Preston’s The One series. This can be read alone but I recommend you meet Brody and Wren first in Waking Up In Vegas because it’s fantastic!

I absolutely adored Indie and Spencer’s story! After having met Indie in Waking Up In Vegas I couldn’t wait to find out more about her and her famous friend Spencer!

Natasha Preston put my heart through the ringer with this book. This is 100 times more emotional than Waking Up In Vegas and I loved every minute! Even the times I couldn’t see for tears pouring down my face.

Spencer is utterly amazing and gorgeous and the only person he has eyes for is Indie! Indie has such a heartbreaking story to tell and yet she won’t let anyone in. I love Indie, I just wanted to pull her from the pages to give her a hug.

Just Like The Movies is an unputdownable five star read and I cannot wait for another standalone in this series! Can’t recommend this book enough!

Thoroughly enjoyable best friends to lovers story about Indie and Spencer. This is the second book in "The One" series and it was nice to catch up with Wren and Brody from "Waking Up In Vegas'.
Spencer is adorable and absolutely loves Indie but he's currently the hottest actor in Hollywood which causes Indie all sorts of worries because she has kept a secret from not only him but also her friends.
The story flows well with the alternating POV and their chemistry is as strong as Indie proves to be. It is an emotional read as the author slowly reveals the extent of Indie's secret, the effect it has had on her and how it continues to rule her life. I liked how down to earth Spencer was, unaffected by his fame and so considerate especially when Indie needed him the most.
Even after everything that happens, this book shows what the love of a good man and having great friends can achieve and leaves the reader with the feel-good factor.
Mila was hilarious and I am looking forward to reading her story next as the end of this book has left me full of hope and optimism for these three girls.

Another great book by this author.

If you loved waking up in Vegas you will love this one.

This time we see Spencer and indies story. We see them progress from friends to lovers, with a few trials along the way.

You may shed a few tears along the way. I know I did at some scenes. And you may get a bit frustrated with indie in some scenes too.

I would love to read more about these two.

If you liked Brody and Wrens story in waking up in Vegas! Then you will absolutely love Spencer and Indie in just like the movies Natasha Preston has nailed this book and I just couldn’t get enough this story is phenomenal!

Spencer is Hollywood’s hottest new star who has just hit the big time with his latest movie! Indie and Spencer have been best friends since they were young! And Indie has always been in love with Spencer! Indie and Spencer had a short brief relationship when they were younger but Indie let him go so he could pursue his career in acting! Will Spencer and Indie remain in the “friend-zone” or will they give into their temptation and their attraction towards each other?

I am totally in love with this story! I absolutely loved Spencer and his devotion towards Indie! Indie has not had it easy in her life she’s been forced to grow up quick and she hides her troubled family life from everyone including her friends! I admired Indies strength in this book and I was rooting for both Spencer and Indie right from the first page! This book took a turn of events that I had not anticipated

I loved catching up with wren and brody from waking up in Vegas and I adored the the friendship Indie, Wren and Milla have and I’m looking forward to reading Millas story later on in the year!

If you love emotionally charged friends to lovers romances then I highly recommend you add this to your tbr pile and order and release day! This series by Natasha Preston has been an amazing ride she has made every stand alone unique and she has poured her heart and soul into these stories and I can’t wait to read more!

I received an early advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

I had moments when I just wanted to shake Indie to wake up, and luckily for us readers Indie's friends Mila and Wren only want what is best for Indie. Spenser's parents are also a good role model and support for both Spenser and Indie. This is an emotional, swoony second chance love story.

Ever since I read Waking Up in Vegas, the first (standalone) book in Natasha’s The One series, I couldn’t wait to read Just Like the Movies! We first meet Indie and get introduced to her and Spencer’s story, and since I especially love books set in the Hollywood world (even though this mostly takes place in the UK), I was excited!

While there is still a lot of cute, fun moments like in WUIV, JLTM also has a much more somber and traumatic storyline that runs through. Indie has to deal with an unsupportive and tumultuous home life where her parents are alcoholics that she hides from her friends, which becomes more and more of an issue as book progresses.

I liked that there was no love triangle and not too much jealousy between Indie and Spencer’s costars. I hate that trope, but Indie and Spencer were both clearly in love with each other from the beginning, so it wasn’t an issue!

Spencer and Indie had a great dynamic, and they complemented each other perfectly. I love Spencer — he’s sweet and supportive, and always puts Indie first. They’re so cute together, and I’m especially glad that we got to see the two of them interacting with Wren and Brody from WUIV!! I love it when we get to see characters from previous books. We also get to know Wren and Indie’s other best friend, Mila a lot more, especially through her interactions with Spencer, and I can’t wait to read the book about her and Reid this November!

Overall, this was a really great book, and I’m so thankful to Natasha for giving me an ARC! It’s such a sweet and heartfelt friends-to-lovers romance. JLTM is available now at the link below, and was just released today, July 3, 2020! Since it is new adult, I’d recommend it for older teens due to sexual content/adult themes, but I’ll let y’all be the judge of that.

Some trigger warnings (this will include a spoiler, so read at your own risk) are alcoholism and suicide.

Just Like the Movies
by Natasha Preston

3,5/5⭐️

This is the first book I read by Natasha Preston, I had briefly read the blurb before I started the book, and I was surprised over how much I liked the novel.
It really catches your attention from the beginning to the end , it’s more than just a love story. There are some delicate themes that makes this novel stand out , and in a way more real.

One of the reason why I didn’t give it a higher note was that it was a bit too long and on occasion repeatedly.
Another reason was that the secret that Indie holds is kind of doubtful that not a single adult around her didn’t notice, I know it’s fiction but it would made the story more credible if people would have suspicions of what was happening with her family.

Blurb:

Spencer and Indie have been friends for years and both of them are secretly in love with each other.

They did try the relationship thing three years ago but it wasn’t really their time .. Spencer was on his way to Hollywood and Indie was just staring the University.

But Indie has a secret she’s been hiding for years that could change so many things , maybe even the friendship with Spencer.

I am so confused about my reading tastes recently. Like have I truly changed that much.

There was not much wrong with the book, but I just don't understand why I keep ending up reading this types of books. I don't even know how to explain the style. Like it's sometimes overly sweet, has some random angst that doesn't make a lot of sense, the sentences and characters' emotions are very ephemeral and it goes like 'this happens. that happens. I feel this. I feel that.' It's almost like there is no actual deeper emotion behind the emotion they are trying to describe with really basic words.

And I feel so bizarre, cause I don't understand how this book can have 5 stars. It was an okay book and I am not particularly picky about tropes or randomness of characters, but this type of style where the characters are quite one-dimensional is just bumming me out. Cause I can't not read it once I started yet I'm not satisfied when I finish it.

I liked the sound of it, but it just ended up falling short.

I loved Waking up in Vegas and i was so excited to get into this book as we met Indie in the first book but we learnt not much baking her except she had secrets about her family and a best friend who was starting out in Hollywood.

This thing i loved about this book was that it was one sided and one loved the other but they both loved each other and they needed a second chance at love.

When we find out what Indie is hiding it doesn’t surprise me but what she goes through during this book you just want to get right inside this book and give her a cuddle.

Spencer was not what i expected either and that’s what made me live him more, his loyal and love for indie was just so special. I loved Wren and Brody in this book might not have been in it much but enough to have a reminder of their story and i loved Mila she is the kind of friend you need around sometimes and i can’t wait for her story next.

I really loved this story it was sweet and sexy and i must admit i shed something tears in this one for Indie she and Spencer are really special characters.

So I will admit this is not quite like how I thought it would be... I was expecting hilarity.. craziness and fun, instead we got such a beautiful story full of emotions and heart warming moments that makes this even better than I thought it would be!

Indie and Spencer are perfect for each other and after being best friends for so long all they need is that final step to be there totally for each other but with Indie not quite admitting to all that is happening in her life this cant quite happen.
Spencer is beyond swoon worthy in every single way.. every woman needs a Spencer in their lives fighting in their corner!
So many parts of this made my heart happy and so many parts equally made my heart sad both making me flip the pages to devour the words to find out what was next for this pair.
Love the friendship with Indie, Wren and Mila and cant wait for the next book!
