Wrecked car, wrecked movie, wrecked image. That’s Christopher Lawton: Hollywood’s latest celebrity wreck. After decking Hollywood’s most powerful producer in the face for blacklisting his movie, he’s hidden himself away at a secluded mountain resort called the Constellation Lodge to avoid media attention until the whole thing blows over. He expected to be bored out of his mind. He didn’t expect to meet Jackson.
Jackson Baker hates the film industry. His whole family is big in the business, but he wants nothing to do with the hollow, toxic world behind the glitz and glam. Self-exiled to the Constellation Lodge, he needs to finish his second novel and prove that he can succeed without the assistance of his well-connected family.
Christopher loves that Jackson has no clue of who he is, but he can’t keep his celebrity a secret forever. Will the truth ruin a connection that seems to be written in the stars?
“Adapted” from Celeste Lake’s lesbian romance Falling Stars. Adapted apparently means the author changed up the character names, pronouns, and sex scenes to market it as m/m under another pen name. 😒
Chasing Stars by Cody Ryder is a sweet and romantic story about celebrity Christopher Lawton and Jackson Baker who hates the film industry. When they meet at secluded mountain resort Jackson doesn't know who Christopher is. Christopher loves that he doesn't know who he is.
I liked this story and the characters. They were so sweet together.
I really enjoyed this book. Christopher and Jackson are both products of the film industry. Christopher is having difficulty in his career and Jackson has distanced himself from it. He's written a book and is struggling to follow up with another. It doesn't help that his father doesn't seem to have faith in his abilities, which causes him an immense amount of self-doubt. Both men are hiding their true selves from the world at large. Christopher is terrified he'll lose his career and Jackson's almost certain his father will never accept him. When they're caught in the midst of a natural disaster, sparks fly and they become close . Their situation becomes complicated when they realize that there's a common denominator causing their problems. They both come to the realization that they'll have to brave and expose themselves if they want a shot at happiness. The epilogue was a sweet glimpse into their future where they've realized their dream for a well deserved HEA.
Chasing Stars is a fun Hollywood romance by Cody Ryder. If you enjoy actor romances, you'll definitely enjoy this one.
Christopher is a troubled actor who meets troubled writer, Jackson during
a much needed break. Both being involved in Hollywood, their story includes some of the issues involved in that demanding lifestyle.
Their story is one of falling for one another during forced proximity. Both characters are well developed, complex, and troubled. I enjoyed the writing and the sweet storyline. They're so darn cute together; hot too.
Chasing Stars is a great reminder to choose what you want from life and to live life for yourself.
Christopher and Jackson are so good together I loved reading their story. This story is about these two guys and finding their own path in life while finding their true love in each other. Just a wonderful read!!!
Wow! I really enjoyed this book. The story between Christopher and Jackson was super good. The angst on this book was wow. But In the end it was worth wait. I highly recommend this story!!
“’Cause when I look at my life, how the pieces fall into place, it just wouldn't rhyme without you. And when I see how my path seems to end up before your face, the state of my heart, the place where we are, was written in the stars...” ~ Westlife ‘Written in the Stars’
Christopher Lawton, of ‘Chasing Stars’ by Cody Ryder, is hiding out at the Constellation Lodge, far from the public eye, hoping his last debacle will soon be forgotten and he will be able to resume his acting career. If he hadn’t been able to have his dog with him, he would have been bored to tears. Still, since Chris is used to having an active lifestyle, the slow pace of the lodge is beginning to get to him. Chris can hardly wait to be able to return to his old life, that is, until he drops his cell phone off his balcony and hits a young man, Jackson, sitting below. Chris rushes down to apologize and after meeting Jackson, he is not as anxious to leave as he was before.
Chris is mortified by the incident, but Jackson downplays it. He is at the lodge hoping the peace and quiet will help him overcome his writer’s block and enable him to finish his latest book. Jackson is anxious to prove to his overbearing father that he is wrong. Jackson’s father is a famous but bigoted movie producer and, because Jackson is not following in his footsteps constantly criticizes him, particularly about his writing which his father considers a waste of time. Jackson is gay, but doesn’t dare tell his bigoted father because he already knows what his reaction will be. Also, it will only add to his disdain of Jackson and his dreams of being an author. Since Jackson avoids anything and everything to do with the movie industry, he has no idea who Chris is.
Chris is absolutely delighted to discover that Jackson doesn’t recognize him. It’s an absolute pleasure to have the freedom to be himself, without any expectations. He and Jackson become friends, but since neither of them are out, sex never comes up. Eventually Chris tells Jackson about his career, but Jackson remains unphased; he’s just “plain old Chris” to him. As they get to know each other, Jackson tells Chris about his writing and shares his frustration of not being able to make any significant progress on his current WIP (work in progress). Of course, Chris encourages him. Chris knows he is bisexual, but, because of his acting career, keeps it under wraps. He begins to realize that he is attracted to Jackson; the closer he gets to Jackson, the harder it is for him to hide his feelings. The thing is, he doesn’t know whether Jackson is gay or not. Chris wants to pursue his desire for him, but doesn’t want to jeopardize their friendship.
This an endearing friends-to-lovers story. Jackson and Chris are victims of their environment, stifled by other people’s unrealistic expectations. Both men wanted to be free to express their creativity as well as their sexuality; I admire them for finding the courage to break down the barriers that restrict them. Thanks, Cody, for giving Jackson and Chris their path to happiness.
