I wish I had found this book as soon as it was published but am delighted that I have found it now. I am grateful to Donne Davis, founder of the Gaga Sisterhood, a group of grandmas in love with their grandchildren, for pointing me in the direction of this book. Apparently, many women of a certain age around the world are searching for ways to deepen their own practice of mindfulness at the same time they help their grandchildren learn skills of noticing and attentiveness, forgiveness and non-judgment. As we do so, we not only teach valuable lessons, but we learn FROM our grandchildren, who have natural beginner's minds and who love to notice. They come into the world like Wordsworth's originals, "trailing clouds of glory."

The connection between grandparents in the Third Age of life and these precious new children may yet be the means of saving us. The authors of this book make no such claims, but one can imagine, reading it, what would happen if millions of people engaged this deeply with the rising generation. Could it be a way to strengthen human resilience by grounding families every more deeply in Love? One can hope. And even if the outcomes are more modest, one can benefit so much from applying even a fraction of the good ideas in this book.

I loved the many mentions of anonymous grandparents who contributed tales of woe or triumph or just plain everyday connection. It made the book seem accessible and not just written for scholars or elite practitioners of Buddhist practices.

In May of 2022 Marilyn McEntyre and I will be celebrating the arrival of our book The Mindful Grandparent: The Art of Loving Our Children's Children. When we speak to audiences, we will definitely recommend this book also. It gives many suggestions that will help readers understand mindfulness better, and it comes from the same source of love for all our grandchildren that inspired my co-author and me.

Amazing Book for the Grandparent Generation

What a simple but beautiful book! Grandparenting is such a complex role, unique to each family and circumstance. But there are some commonalities, and this book strives to help the reader be more mindful and deliberate in their approach to the role. Now, this isn't in any way a judgmental book, as that comment may suggest. Rather, the authors encourage grandparents to not only instill values and provide humor, gravitas, and perspective but to also see the role as a way for the grandparent to grow and appreciate life as well. The authors show that there can be true reciprocity in the grandparent-grandchild relationship; each has much to give the other. The relationship is not a one-way street. The book offers 52 brief ideas to get the grandparent to think about interactions and activities to do with their grandchildren. They are simple but still profound, and they are augmented by stories from grandparents that beautifully illustrate the points the authors are trying to make. Both the ideas from the authors and the quotes brought to mind my memories of the time I spent with my nephew when he was a baby and a toddler. Reading the book brought back the wonder of those times. I think parents and other family members who interact with children could benefit from reading this book as well. We could all do well to remember the gifts given and received in our treasured relationships. Certainly, if you are about to become a grandparent, you should read this book as it will inspire you to create a relationship that will be beneficial for both you and your grandchild. A wonderful book that I heartily recommend.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I am not a grandparent yet nor is a grandchild looming on the horizon but I enjoyed. my kids so much that as the last one graduates this year and the older one becomes more involved and serious with his girlfriend, I am looking forward to grandkids. I love this book. How could I resist since the information is timeless and really applies to life in general? Thanks so much for this book.

I loved the book. I am a first time grandparent and many of the suggestions made me recalibrate my interaction with my grandchild. The book will be helpful to all grandparents who want a better and positive relationship with their grandkids.
