Pine Ridge Pack #1

Mine to Save

Rate this book
Phoenix - Though our beginning was marred by tragedy and our number is small, I couldn’t be prouder to be the alpha of the Pine Ridge Pack of wolf shifters. We protect each other and our land, where we reside in homes built by our own hands. Our job gives us pride and purpose, and we get everything we need from the land and the nearby town. Everything except one. Every shifter has one true soulmate granted to them by Fate; one person they are to love, protect and cherish for all time. Once we find our destined match, we dedicate our lives to protecting them, providing for them and ensuring their happiness. When I find mine, I’m captivated by his intoxicating scent and struck by his incomparable beauty. But his circumstances are dire, and I pray I’m not too late.

Rory - After being kicked out of my house for being gay, I moved to the city with my best friend Dax in search of a fresh start and acceptance. He’s my family and supports me in everything I do. He’s all I have in life; well, besides my crappy, low-paying job and my love of photography. That love pushed me to save every penny possible for months to purchase a new camera. I decide to take it into the forest to capture the beauty of nature, even though I have a terrible sense of direction. And a body that’s not built for hiking. And zero endurance. What could go wrong?

*This M/M paranormal romance is for readers 18 and up! It has no cliffhangers or cheating and a very happy HEA. It contains a sexy wolf shifter, his devoted pack and his lovable fated mate. Look out for lurking dangers, heartwarming moments and steamy scenes! My books are low angst and insta-love. They’re full of sexy moments, sweetness and a healthy dose of humor.

I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!

Re-read December 2023

When I want something fluffy and sweet I grab a Jayda Marx book. They're extremely cheesy, but there's something about them that makes me coming back for more.

Rory has just bought a new camera and is taking pictures out on a trail in the woods when he accidentally falls down a steep hill. Lucky for him his destined mate is nearby. Not that Rory knows about mates, or shifters.

Phoenix is the Alpha of a small pack. There is only him and his two best friends who went with him when he left his old pack. The three of them take care of the park and no one needs to know that the park rangers are actually wolf shifters.

When Phoenix smells his mate one day, he knows he has to follow the sweet scent. But when he finds Rory he sees his mate is injured and needs his help.

With the help of Rowan and Stone, Phoenix finally gets Rory inside his cabin, where he is planning on taking care of his small mate.

But of course Rory has no idea what is happening and who Phoenix is….

I really liked this. Yes, it was a bit too corny at times, but I didn’t really mind overall.

This had insta-love on crack. So if you're not a fan, don't read this book.

I kept thinking it was strange that Rory already loved Phoenix after two days. Yes, they're fated mates, but Rory didn't know that at that time, so for him it was super fast. But hey, paranormal shifter book, who cares!

Jayda Marx seems to follow the same formula with her books. Strong man needs to love and protect small sweet man. I don't really get tired of that formula tbh, so just keep on writing Ms Marx!

And I can't wait to read about Rowan and Dax!

God, this book was so chessy and sweet and gooey and soft. Hella dramatic at times but at this point, it's Jayda's charm.

(low-key more interested in stone's story 😩)

Is this perfect? Nope
But I had a smile on my face from beginning to end. This is fluff galore with corny dialogue and insta-love. I enjoyed every second of Mine to Save.😉

This is the second story I've read in days where fated mates meet while one has a concussion. *snicker* I guess this is a thing?

What's not to love?
Alpha wolf saves his mate, shelters him, nurses him back to health with his magic dick all the while falling deeply in lust *cough* I meant love . *happy content sigh*
Insta-love/Fated mate at it's best.

I really adored Rory and his wide eyed innocent, his pleasant attitude and his willingness to love so fully and openly despite not knowing anything about Phoenix. And Phoenix is the perfect Alpha, instantly devoted, protective, supportive and caring *gush-worthy*.

Rory does fall very fast for a human but his innocence and lack of experience is enough justification for moi to explain how willing he is to get swept up by the romance of it all and to trust his instincts. But ok, if I was being honest it's totally crazy fast but I expected that and wanted that.
This is one story where believability is better left at the door.
A delightful, fun read and I can't wait to get Dax's story, if anyone deserves romance it's him ^_^

Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun read without much realism, who wants to be swept up in the world of shifters and fated mates.

I’ve recently discovered Jayda Marx and I’m breezing through her books. They’re low angst (read almost zero) and insta love on steroids. But who cares 🤷‍♀️ They’re sweet and fun, feel good type stories.

I didn’t like this one as much as the last one I read, Head Over Wheels but it was still a cute shifter book. I’m really looking forward to Rowan and Dax. Rowan wants a mate so bad and Dax needs someone to love and cherish him like he deserves.

2.5/5.
“Maybe he’s some crazed mountain man who hasn’t had contact with another person in years. I mentally shrugged. Eh, nobody’s perfect. Besides, apart from Dax, this is the most attention a man has given me in...ever!”

ETA: As I was reviewing a more recent book I read by her I was remembering that she mentions the use of “smudging” here too. That is a specific indigenous ritualistic practice, and she could’ve easily used “smoke cleansing”. Not to mention white sage is endangered because of over-commercialization and cultural appropriation. I’m knocking down my review stars for this.

———
As usual, Jayda Marx is hilarious and I really enjoy her writing. Part of her humor to me is some of the things she’ll say mention casually — like “oh yeah if he rejects me my life will spiral into a depressive abyss I can’t recover from but you know, whatever”. Lmfao. She sometimes was repetitive here and there, but the fact is I’ve read so many of her books I’m bound to notice such things popping up more often!

Rory and Phoenix were pretty cute - this wolf shifter universe works a little different than her other shifter books, such as how once two fated mates meet, they will essentially get pushed into a heat until they mate and bond. I liked that idea a lot, although there is no omegaverse/mpreg shenanigans here. As usual they fell together pretty quickly, and I liked how they met from Rory being physically hurt. It’s some sweet hurt/comfort trope without it being super angsty.

Marx has a bit of a formula she uses sometimes - tall big protective guy and virgin twink - that was here, and I loved it regardless. These two were hot under the sheets and had some great scenes, such as the intercrural one. Overall, I’m very happy with this read and can’t wait for Dax’s book!

This was very sweet.

I wanted something with no angst, and that's exactly what I got with this extremely cheesy, fated mates story.

This is my third Jayda Marx book in a couple of days. While there are a couple of things that give me pause, I’m enjoying them.

Mine to Save is your classic fated mates/insta-love story. The alpha scents his mate only to find him injured. He takes him to his home and nurses him back to health, desperate to complete the mate bond. His mate is a human, Rory. An amateur photographer, Rory had saved for months to buy a fancy new camera. When his best friend Dax isn’t able to go hiking with him to take photos, he goes by himself. But trying to get that perfect picture almost gets him killed when he leans over a wooden barrier to take a photo and the wood breaks. Rory falls thirty feet, convinced he’s going to die. He wakes up at some point to see a wolf leaning over him. After telling the wolf to wait until he falls back asleep to eat him, he passes out again. The next time he wakes up – with the exception of opening his eyes once and telling Phoenix (in his human form) that he has beautiful eyes – he’s in a strange bed, stripped down to his underwear, and being held by a total stranger who’s also in his underwear. After freaking out a little, Rory knows somehow that he’s not in danger.

This is a sweet fated mates story. I liked all the characters but my favorite has to be Dax, a secondary one. His story is up next. I can't wait to read it.

Super cute and fluffy insta-insta-love. In fact I would consider this incredibly cheesy...

Considering I’ve been sick I’m a bed for a few days it was kind of perfect, as it didn’t take a lot of thought. One thing it did do was make me really want to read the next book.

Really enjoyable read!!

I loved the whole book. I loved how they saved him when he went over the ridge. Finally a book that has mates front and center and not being put somewhere when they go off to fight. Anyway I enjoyed the book. Will continue to buy them. Thank you Jayda.

I love Jayda Marx's books because of how absolutely sweet they are. They have their own kind of troubles but I love how in tune and loving the couple is towards each other.

I adored Phoenix's pack and loved their dynamics. I'm looking forward to reading Book 2.

Nice introduction to this new pack

This was a sweet shifter/human romance. Nothing was particularly different, or remarkable, but it was just a fun, relaxing read.

I liked that Phoenix didn’t want to fight Raven, despite everything that Raven has done to deserve retribution. But when Raven provoked, Phoenix proved that he was willing to stand up for what was right. I also have to wonder what happens to Raven’s pack now? Or was he, and his cronies, already ousted from their place and they had come to Pine Ridge to hide from their defeat?

I just can’t read another page 😫 This is beyond sweet and fluffy to the point there’s nothing to keep me engaged in the story. These two guys say “I’m sorry” and “it’s okay don’t be sorry because I’m sorry you felt the need to say sorry in the first place” more than 40 times. There’s nothing enjoyable about this for me. Calling it quits at 43% and it took me 4 days to get that far.

When Phoenix tells Rory he’s a shifter…..
“I believe that you believe it. 🤭 Rory’s thinking his new mans DELULU 😅
“I wondered if he’d act like a wolf in front of me or if he’d get upset when his delusions didn’t play out.😂🤣
I loved this so much !!! so cheesy OTT and adorable.

This was a cute little story. No angst or major build up - things moved along pretty quickly. Typical gated mates type story. Mindless reading.
