While I really enjoyed the solid mystery and the relationship between the two characters, it simply didn't catch me and sweep me off my feet. It could easily be a problem with my mood. However, it's a solid story and I really in particular enjoyed the adult relationship the two leads have: instead of pouting and weeping like kids, they have real conversations about issues. They meet problems head-on.

The one gripe I have is the semi-pedantic reiteration of the supposed position that "legalized drugs will make marijuana less profitable to gangs" which is not proven by the numbers in states with legal drugs and was rather laughable in a gang which was transporting heroin. I live in a state that legalized two years ago and the only result is the consumption of an extra few tons of weed. There was also a very alarming suggestion of someone wanting to take it legally for seizures, which is not a suggested use (is actually dangerous) and the studies about seizures are done with an extract, not with "medical marijuana" which is not standardized and is warned against by the American Epilepsy Association. There was no end note to specify where the author sourced her data on this opinion.

Drug issue considered, I'd recommend this book to those over 18 because of the drug aspect.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free reading copy. My review is based on a final copy from my library.

Patricia Bradley has become another of my favorite suspense authors. Packed with intrigue from start to finish, her books always keep me up reading late at night because I can't put them down.

Set in Natchez, Mississippi in one of the state parks, Brooke Danvers is a park ranger who is transferring from the interpretive division to the law enforcement division. But before she can even be sworn in, murders begin occurring in the park. Luke Fereday, Brooke's high school love, has returned to Natchez and unbeknownst to Brooke is working an undercover case that begins to intersect with the murders. She is currently engaged to Jeremy Steele, but there are two men after the same woman yet both keeping secrets.

Bradley did an excellent job of showing the extreme difficulty for officers who have to work in real life situations while at the same time playing an undercover role. She also put the suspense foremost and any romance played in the background. With plenty of red herrings, I wasn't sure until the very end who really was behind the drugs and murders; but I had a strong feeling about one character who ended up being involved. Lots of twists and turns kept this book flying from start to finish.

Standoff is the first of the new series, Natchez Trace Park Rangers, by Patricia Bradley. I enjoyed the fast pace of the book that starts it off and continues to the end. The backdrop of the story is very interesting with descriptions of the historical Natchez Trace, old antebellum homes in Natchez, the scenes along the Mississippi River, and small town closeness.
Brooke Danvers is about to move from a position as an interpretive ranger to one as a law enforcement officer with the Park Service on the Trace land. Her father John is to be her boss but he is killed at the beginning of the story, at first ruled as a suicide. Brooke does not believe her father killed himself nor does an old neighbor Luke Fereday. He is in working undercover on a drug case and also checking into John's death. His excuse for being there is to visit his grandmother.
It soon becomes clear that there is a dirty cop with either the police, sheriff's office, or park service. So who to trust? Brooke and Luke do trust each other but no one else. There are lots of characters to keep straight and I had a hard time at first. Many of them had reason to seem suspicious.
Standoff has suspense, mystery with twists and turns, action, danger, and some light romance. There is complicated family dynamics and issues to add depth to the story as well as local and state politics.
I enjoyed this first book in the new series and look forward to Brooke's friend, Emma's story, in the next book.

A fabulous start to Patricia Bradley’s new Natchez Trace Park Rangers series! Standoff has the perfect blend of romance and suspense, so fans of romantic suspense will thoroughly enjoy this latest novel by award-winning author Patricia Bradley.

In Standoff, park ranger Brooke Danvers is determined to find answers to her father’s suicide, which she is convinced was, in fact, murder. Luke Fereday is back in town with a mission to take down an extensive drug ring. As both cases appear to be linked, will Brooke and Luke become the killer’s next targets?

There are many new characters introduced at the beginning of the novel, which is typical in the first book of a new series, but readers will find themselves immersed in the storyline and trying to determine who the killer is. Patricia Bradley expertly sets up the storyline with numerous possible suspects to keep the readers guessing until the very end.

Standoff is highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense, and readers who enjoy books by authors such as Lynette Eason, Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Rachel Dylan.

The rating is wavering between a 3.5 and 4. There were parts I thoroughly enjoyed, yet there were some things I was not fond of.

What I Liked
- The main male character was well fleshed-out and his character arc was well-done.
- The suspense in the book was excellent.
- I found the description of the heroin drug trade particularly fascinating.
- The grandma, Daisy, was a neat character and I really liked her.
- The plot is quick paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- Bradley has a good writing style that keeps you reading.

What I Wasn't Fond of
- I respectfully disagree with Bradley's approval of medical marijuana. Due to living near a state where this is allowed, I've thoroughly researched this issue. What struck me as particularly ironic is this is a book about the dangers of drugs, yet marijuana is a gateway drug. There was a disconnect there in the drug aspect.
- I neither connected with nor liked Brooke. She came across as self-centered, whiny, and lacking in compassion.
- I would have preferred to have seen a few more details fleshed out, as the ending felt rushed, but that is a personal opinion.

Conclusion
Overall, it was a good book. Not a genre I usually read, but I did enjoy it for the most part. Readers of Christian romantic suspense will enjoy Standoff.

Patricia Bradley starts her newest series Natchez Trace Park Rangers with a bang in this book. The plot is complex with many twists and turns and the author will have you guessing at the unnamed villain until the very end of the book. The suspense and mystery components are top-notch though the secondary characters are sometimes difficult to separate out because there are many (but I'm guessing that was on purpose so that the villain is not as obvious). I know nothing about the National Park Service or the Rangers who work within the system so it was fascinating to learn about this world.

The romance component fell a little flat for me. Brooke, in her independence, fear, and bravery, and Luke, in his protective tender ways, are both likable but I did not feel drawn into their heartaches and longings. How Brooke handled two men's attention and affection had me confused for the most part and how it all resolved felt rushed and unexplained.

If you enjoy a good suspense with a complex mystery, you will absolutely enjoy this book. I received a copy of the book from Baker Publishing Group via Interviews & Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

4.5 stars for this romantic suspense thriller by Patricia Bradley. Ms. Bradley has been on my "want to read" list of authors for a while, and winning a copy of this book got me to move her up on my tbr. While this is my first book by this author, it definitely won't be the last!

This book follows Brooke Danvers, who has long awaited the day when she can follow in her father's footsteps and be a law enforcement park ranger. A few days before her swearing in, a completely chaotic series of events follows Brooke as she struggles to make sense of it all. While there was definitely a romance thread, it took a backseat to the suspense, which is how I like my romantic suspense novels to be. The characters also had history, which made the romance feel more natural. The faith thread in this one was minimal, but still present. There are a lot of twists and turns, both in the suspense and in Brooke's interpersonal relationships. While I had my suspicions, I wasn't sure who the bad guy was, or the major plot twist till the end. This is one that will keep you guessing and turning pages!

The only reason for not giving this a full 5 stars is that the characters (and therefore the author) seemed to take a pretty firm stance on the legalization of marijuana. While this is a big topic that can go either way, and it made for an important part of the story-line, I felt like the Christian characters took the wrong stance on this one. There will be some who disagree with me, but it felt a bit like a political platform. It was a minor concern of mine, but I thought it worth stating in case that is a major issue for a reader. Other than this small nuance, this is a stellar suspense novel. I would strongly recommend to fans of romantic suspense.

Special thanks to the author and Baker Publishing group for an advanced copy of this book. I was under no obligation to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

In Standoff we travel to Mississippi and have the opportunity to explore Natchez. The heroine works for the National Park Service and is ready to move from interpreter to law enforcement officer with the park service. Then her dad dies. She stumbles across a state senator who's been shot, and everything is falling a part. There are many twists in this book and the characters were engaging. I also felt like I was plopped into the heat and humidity of the deep south. I already can't wait to read book 2. Oh, and the hero? A fascinating character in his own right. This is a book that will be a great read for lovers of romantic suspense reads. The fact it's a vacation in a book only makes it better yet.

Standoff
Natchez Trace Park Rangers #1
By: Patricia Bradley

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆☆
I've always thought park rangers have such an interesting job, so I was very glad to see a book about a female park ranger. Brooke is a rookie law enforcement park ranger for the Natchez Trace park. When her father dies from an apparent suicide, Brooke doesn't believe it's true. She intends to find the person who killed her father. Unbeknownst to her, an old flame, Luke, is in town. He was a friend of Brooke's father and finds his death suspicious, too. Luke is also working undercover to infiltrate a drug ring using the Natchez Trace Parkway to move drugs. Of course, Brooke and Luke have a bit of chemistry and possibly more. They have other things to worry about, though, because Brooke is in danger now. Who is the killer? I was surprised at the end! This story is an excellent read with mystery, action, romance and drama in a unique setting. I like Brooke and Luke together. They make a dynamic couple. It is a beautifully depicted yet sharp and thrilling story that will have you guessing all the way to the end. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Patricia Bradley has long been a favorite of mine for authentic, sure-fire suspense. The start to her new series is right on target with the mystique of the Natchez Trace. This one is unique because of the focus on the Park Ranger Service and its different branches.
Brooke Danvers has made a career change within the Ranger Service. She has passed her qualifications and is waiting to be sworn in as a Law Enforcement Ranger, following in her dad’s footsteps. Unfortunately, Ranger John Danvers is found dead in a remote place. Brooke is determined to find his killer, although she is not assigned to the case.
Luke Fereday is undercover to get close to a drug kingpin who is moving product up the Trace. He is equally determined to find out who killed John and see if there is any connection to his case.
Danger is ever present and so is the question of who to trust. Ms. Bradley has captured the atmosphere of the Trace and of Natchez and its residents. She keeps you guessing who the villains could be, leaving subtle clues along the way that culminate in a heart-stopping ending.
Drugs and murder are not the only things to discover in this book. Brooke and Luke learn how their faith can be strengthened through tough times. And if they can come to terms with their shared background and growing attraction. Each quandary is expertly summed up in this thrilling novel.

Standoff is the first book in a new series by Patricia Bradley, and it just may be, in my opinion, one of her best books so far.

Standoff just jumps off at the beginning and it doesn’t slow down. It is chockful of action and non-stop suspense. The two main characters Luke Fereday and Brooke Danvers have a lot going on with each other and everything else going on in the book. I really didn’t have any idea who was the lone gunman so to speak, and I was still surprised as to who it was, even though it was hinted at throughout.

I really liked Luke’s character and normally I don’t necessarily feel any closeness to the lead male characters in Ms. Bradley’s previous novels. He was well fleshed out as a character and I really liked him. I got the sense that he really cared about what he did, and of course, he cares about Brooke, and even though he didn’t think he was good enough for her, he owned up to it. Brooke and Luke had great chemistry together and I could see them in another novel solving another crime together, they worked well together.
My gratitude to NetGalley and Revell for a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are mine.

Standoff by Patricia Bradley is book one of her new series, Natchez Trace Park Rangers. I’ve never read Patricia Bradley and thought this would be a good one to try because of the unusual setting, Natchez, Mississippi along the Natchez Trace National Parkway. I was also interested in the storyline due to the Park ranger aspect.

Sadly, this story just didn’t work for me. I had trouble keeping track of all of the characters. In my opinion, there were just too many. I was never able to really connect with Brooke. She was too bossy for me and she never really acted like a person who had just lost her dad. This really took me out of the story. I also felt like the way the story played out was too predictable. That being said, there was some good action and the romance was satisfying.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The suspense started from the first chapter and was really good throughout the story right till the end, though there was a time it did feel a bit slow (dragged out).

The author did do a great job of giving me a few options of who might be involved, though my main guess were correct, but there were times I doubted and someone I didn’t really wanted involved.

The story did end a bit abruptly to me. Almost as if the author was forced to end the book and thus some things were sorted out too quickly - I think of some of the slower parts were removed and time spend on the ending, it would have felt more rounded for me.

Between the two main characters, I enjoyed Luke more. His character felt a bit more grounded than Brooke. And Brooke’s best friend, Emma, was a bit annoying at one stage with her nosiness.

I did enjoy this and do think the series will get better with each book and as we get to know the characters (there was a lot) a bit more.

Fans of Romantic Suspense will like this story.

Patricia Bradley is one of those authors that is a bit hit-or-miss for me, but I greatly enjoyed her Memphis Cold Case series, so I decided to give her newest release a shot. And I'm glad I did! Standoff is one wild ride from chapter one.

Brooke Danvers is a very convincing lead character, and I enjoyed following her story. I did find it hard to relate to her at times--whether this was because her character wasn't fleshed out well enough or because we're so dissimilar, I'm not sure. I did find myself empathizing with her, especially as she dealt with the grief over losing her dad. Luke Fereday, Brooke's counterpart, was a great character, and for some reason I found myself liking him as a main character more than I did Brooke. The details of his job were fascinating and I could feel his struggle as he tried to balance his job and his life\relationships.

As I said, from chapter one, the story doesn't stop! With dramatic suspense and a plethora of action scenes, I couldn't put this one down until I finished it. Bradley is a veteran writer, and that shows in Standoff. I love her laid-back, yet still engaging writing style. I enjoyed Brooke and Luke's romance, although at times I wanted to slap both characters upside their heads. Honestly, the ex-boyfriend-wh0-never-stopped-loving-her trope can bug me most times, but I didn't mind it much in Standoff. It just worked.

Overall, Standoff is in engaging and suspenseful read that you won't be able to put down! If you love romantic suspense, this one definitely needs to be on your to-read list!

"What had he gotten himself into?"

Just about every character in this book could ask themselves the same question. . . what? . . . and why?

When questionable deaths keep popping up in Natchez, Mississippi, park ranger Brooke Danvers is overwhelmed with evidence that doesn't make any sense. One of those deaths happened to be her own father, and she is adamant that he did not take his own life as the crime scene seemed to suggest. And what about Luke Fereday; he keeps turning up every time she needs moral, or in one case physical, support. Why is he back in Natchez, why is he sticking so close, and why does what he tells her about himself not match up with the kind of Luke that she knew, and cared a lot about, once upon a time. The sight of that man still turns her head and gives her a heart a swirl.

As Luke and Brooke cautiously fall back into a camaraderie of sorts, there's so much they don't know . . . and the unknown can certainly cause a lot of damage. A drug cartel is operating with reckless abandon up and down the Natchez Trace and eventually the two of them will knowingly, or in Brooke's case unknowingly, find themselves in the epicenter.

At times, the plotting in this book seemed a bit forced, and thus rushed. The main characters were wonderful, but the secondary characters were often confusing to identify; adding to the mystique, but also adding to the reader's uncertainty as to how to integrate them fully into the story. First books in series have a lot to accomplish, and "Standoff" accomplished a lot!

I received this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

I have never read a Patrica Bradley book, but I really liked the premise and location of this book. I love national parks and though I have never been to Natchez Trace National Parkway, it was still super cool to read about. I honestly really wanted to love this book, I really did but there were so many things that felt slightly off for me. I really didn't have a solid connection to the story, I felt like there were too many characters to keep track of and that things moved rather slowly. There were really fast-paced parts and then rather slow parts that seemed to drag.

I had a very difficult time relating to Brooke. I agree with another reviewer on Goodreads, that at times she did not act like she recently lost her father. That really didn't help me connect with her, I know that she used it as motivation to figure out the case, but there was just too much lack of emotion. I liked Luke's character a lot, but the chemistry between Brooke and Luke I felt was too fast and not super realistic. I understand that every person and couple is different in real life, but 14 years of not seeing each other and then almost immediately jumping into love seemed too fast for me.

All this being said, I enjoyed the story as a whole, and though there were a few other things that I could've done without, I am still overall enjoyed the read.

I just finished reading Standoff by Patricia Bradley. It was full of twists and turns, suspense, romance, and relatable characters. At some points, I felt like it was moving a little bit too slowly. Sometimes there would be chapters before something big happened. But I still enjoyed it and was always wondering what would happen next. I really liked all of the plot twists. And Luke. Luke was great. I totally ship him and Brooke.
This wasn't my favorite suspense book that I've read, but I still enjoyed it and I am excited to read book 2. I liked the author's writing style and I would like to read more by her.

STANDOFF is book one in Ms. Bradley's explosive new series. Set in the deep south, it will leave you experiencing the heat in more ways than one.

There is a host of characters that is overwhelmingly confusing at first, but if you keep reading you should be able to sort them all out. There is also a host of characters that might be "who-dun-it" and that kept me guessing though I did narrow it down to two.

I really liked Brooke and Luke.

I enjoyed this new series and it wasn't overwhelmingly scary. I can't wait to read more about this team of park rangers. Recommended.

My hat goes off to Patricia Bradley. In Standoff, she takes readers on a wild ride involving a series of murders in a small town, as well as a drug cartel. The plot was fast paced right from the gecko and I couldn’t tell who the murderer was until close to the end. She will keep you guessing through most of the novel, with plenty of twists and turns throughout. This is the first novel I’ve read by this author but it will not be my last. Can’t wait for book two, but it doesn’t come out until February. So far away...

Great start to a new series! I especially loved the information included about cartels, drug companies and marijuana legalization - interesting.

Everything in the pages seemed plausible and while there were a few candidates for the villain, I was surprised by some of the final details.

Brooke Danvers father’s death was ruled a suicide. As an almost newly minted Park ranger investigative officer she's out to prove otherwise. Little does she know she'll find more than she bargained for! Luke Fereday is sent undercover to nail drug runners up the Natchez Trace in Mississippi when he finds John Danvers murdered. Too late to stop it, he'll work with Brooke to find the culprit and stop the drug ring.

This is the first suspense I've read from Patricia Bradley but it won't be my last! One of the things I enjoy most in stories like this is the police procedural and Bradley included plenty of that. Trying to figure out who was behind everything was next to impossible; I had a few suspicions but was still shocked at the end. Armchair sleuthing at its best! Also, both Brooke & Luke have a past history and watching the romance develop between them was fun. There are many twists and turns to keep me on my toes, lots of layers to unravel, and the story drew me in from the beginning. What I also loved, the tension was keep at a high level to keep me turning pages to find out what happens next. This is romantic suspense at its best that will keep me coming back for more! I can't wait for the next story in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series.

This was my first time to read Patricia Bradley, and it definitely won’t be my last! I instantly connected with this story, because I’m a Louisiana/Mississippi girl myself, so the Natchez Trace automatically swept me in.

There were several twists and turns I wasn’t expecting (some were heart-wrenching!). Some that I did guess, so it was a balance between the two. And yes, I did know who the “bad guys” were from the first third of the book, but I did still enjoy reading how everything played out. I thought the suspense was solid and well-written and the mystery element was pretty good too.

The Christian content was more in the form of Daisy’s mentorship than the actual two main character’s personal Christian walk. It mentioned Brooke going to church, but Luke didn’t because of dangerous work—which, I’m not faulting it for that. There was a moral lesson, more from Brooke’s side than Luke’s (now that I think of it, I don’t really know of a big “lesson” Luke learned other than not being afraid to settle down). Personally, I felt it was more of a moral read than a Christian read.

The chemistry between Brooke and Luke was great. There was a sort of love triangle going on with Jeremy added as well. Judging it just based on that, it was very well done. However, when my seventeen-year-old sister asked if she could read this, I was hesitant, because it did focus a lot on the physical attractions. There was only one kiss, but it was semi-detailed.

Gripping writing is a definitely 5-star for me.
Christian/romance theme makes it more of a 4-star. So we’ll go with the invisible 4.5 star.

This definitely has me looking forward to the next book in the series!

Standoff by Patricia Bradley is the first book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series and it is the first book that I have read by this author.

Luke Fereday and Brooke Danvers are old friends and neighbors. Luke arrives back in Natchez too late to save Brooke's father, John, from being killed as he tries to stop a drug deal. Brooke is determined to find out who her father's murderer is--but she may not be safe either. Together, can they find the culprit?

There are quite a few secondary characters in Standoff. One of which is Daisy, Luke's grandmother. I liked her a lot. She was the one person who most reflected her faith and it felt authentic. I also liked that Bradley gave a nod to author Rachel Hauck through her. Otherwise, I struggled to connect with many of the characters. I especially didn't like Brooke's over protective friend, Emma. Honestly, while I did root for Luke and Brooke, I didn't feel real warm about them. I wanted them to find the killer because I did really enjoy the plot. I wasn't sure who the killer was until the end of Standoff. The plot was fast moving with a few side tracks so I wasn't sure at all how it would turn out until the very end. I thought the story was quite well done. The cover is a real draw too. It gives me a sense that Brooke is looking over her shoulder to watch her back, which she definitely needed to do. In the back of Standoff, there is a preview to the next book in the series that features Emma--and maybe I will like her more as the series goes along. I do look forward to finding out in the next book.

Standoff by author Patricia Bradley is set in Mississippi around the Natchez Trace Parkway. This is the first of a new series featuring the Natchez Trace Park Rangers. There are a number of different characters the reader becomes familiar with from the beginning.
Brandon is an accountant with an unfortunate talent. His hacking skills lead to information that has him asking for help from his dad. Soon Brandon is dead of a drug overdose!
Brooke Danvers is excitedly waiting for a ride-along with her park ranger father when she receives a message that he has been called away and he will see her the next day. Although she is disappointed, she accepts this as part of the job. Brooke is just a few days away from being sworn in as a new park ranger, on the parkway close to Natchez. Tragedy strikes Brooke's family which turns her world upside-down. I won't post spoilers, but the suspense and action will keep the reader looking for clues as to who is responsible for recent crimes on the parkway. Brooke also must decide whom to trust as her heart is leading her toward her future. Will it be Jeremy or Luke?
I appreciate a very good suspense story which is also faith-based I am looking forward to reading more of this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

First off... I wish I'd read this novel before I said to my husband, "Don't worry, he's a park ranger. It's not like he can pull you over for speeding." :)

While we didn't get a ticket that day, heroine Brooke Danvers of the Natchez Trace Park Rangers handed out a few. She also found herself in the middle of a murder investigation after a local man breathes his last words to her. Luke Fereday is a former love interest of Brooke's and finds himself pulled in three directions, protecting Brooke, investigating a murder, and working undercover.

I enjoyed this suspense novel for the twist and turns of the investigation, but mostly because of the characters. I loved Luke's grandmother and her love of Rachel Hauck's romance novels. :) I found myself empathizing with Brooke over her losses and anxious for Luke to win the girl.

My only criticism is that parts of the story were set up so blatantly that it was so easy to see where the story was going. But because of the characters, I was happy to go along for the ride.

I like finding books where the characters are in a profession I don't know much about, and this book definitely scratched that itch. As the story begins, Brooke is an interpretive park ranger, on the verge of being commissioned a law enforcement park ranger. I had no idea there was more than one kind of park ranger! I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series and reading more about park rangers.

Brooke's father is a law enforcement ranger, or was – in the first chapter he dies under mysterious circumstances. Ruled a suicide by the medical examiner, Brooke is convinced he was murdered and is determined to find his killer. She's surprised to learn that her childhood sweetheart, Luke, is in town, and had apparently been close to her father. When Luke left town after high school he broke Brooke's heart, and she's had no contact with him since then.

As the book started out, I got a little confused with all the characters being introduced, especially since one has not been identified and we, the reader, don't know who he is. But I quickly became swept up in Brooke's life as she deals with her father's death, her fledgling relationship with Jeremy, a local politician, and her feelings for Luke. Not to mention secrets coming to light that throw her for a loop. She and Luke's characters are well written, and my heart hurt for Brooke as her life kept getting turned upside down again and again. The action feels pretty non-stop, yet there is still characterization in between the action.

This is my first time reading Patricia Bradley, and her writing flows. Despite all the action and characterization there is still a lot of dialogue, natural and realistic, with no info dumping. Revell is a Christian publisher, but most of their romantic suspense titles will still appeal to non-religious readers – there's no beating you over the head with scripture or religious references here, while still being a clean read. (Unless you have issues with drug references – an undercover drug investigation plays pretty heavily in the narrative.)

Solid suspense, light romance, and a mystery that I did not figure out on my own. Revell has another winner.

Wbiplash suspense paired with an angsty reunion romance are the foundation of the unputdownable first book in Patricia Bradley's new series, Natchez Trace Park Rangers. Gobsmackingly good!

Absolutely love the park rangers angle which is something fresh and new for a romantic suspense and Bradley brings out interesting details of the profession and training and the way multiple agencies come together to fight organized crime. The suspense plot is intense and complex with enough hairpin turns to throw an unsuspecting reader into a tailspin of bibliophile delight! We're even given terse, intermittent perspectives from a villain who has Brooke in his crosshairs. It got to the point where I suspected nearly everyone in the book except Luke! And I like the way the short chapters created a sense of urgency. Each one ending on a high note that compelled me to read 'just one more chapter.' Like I said, Unputdownable.

Luke and Brooke were high school friends on the cusp of turning into something more when Luke did a sudden about-face and left town. Now he's back, deep undercover investigating a drug smuggling operation. Only Brooke, a newly minted law enforcement ranger, keeps getting in the way. Their romance is all kinds of complicated. Sometimes funny, often frustrating and occasionally toe-curling...in between dodging violent attacks, of course. :-)

An incredible start to an exciting new series. Can't wait until Obsession comes out in February 2021!

This is the first book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series by Patricia Bradley.

Basic premise: A veteran park ranger is killed after coming upon a drug buy. His daughter wants answers and begins looking into his death. Luke Fereday came upon the body of his friend but he is undercover and can’t reveal what he knows. A photographer also had a view of the scene and has photos that incriminate the guilty party. Then he also ends up dead.

I almost didn’t think these two would ever get together. Brooke lives next door to Luke’s grandmother. Luke was asked by Brooke’s father to go undercover and now that he’s dead, Luke has to be really careful who he trusts… for his grandmother’s sake and Brooke’s as well.

Brooke had to fight to get herself in with the Natchez Rangers and now that she has reached her goal, she is determined to find her father’s killer even more. It was real hard to figure out who the bad guy was since there were so many viable suspects around.

This is definitely a series I want to continue to follow.

If you are looking for a good romantic suspense book, definitely check this one out.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
