Every unit of the FBI has those cases that just make an agent think, make them feel, and make them wonder why people treat others the way they do. PAVAD—the Prevention & Analysis of Violent Acts Division of the FBI—was no different. This was one of those cases. Members of the Complex Crimes Unit Team Three, one of the best FBI investigative teams in the nation, had to stop a stalker before he destroys one Texas family from within.
Gillian Birch was a successful children’s book novelist and part-time librarian. She’d never hurt anyone, never done anything to draw the attention of an obsessive madman. But what he’d threatened to do to her terrified her and she had no one else to turn to but the police. They’d called in the PAVAD division of the FBI.
But could Team Three stop the stalker, before he harmed Gillian? Team Three wasn’t so sure… _____________________________________
Case File #0001 is the first in a series of mystery novellas featuring characters from the PAVAD: FBI Romantic Suspense series. These novellas feature complete suspense stories and can be read in any order.
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
3½⭐ A nice filler in the series. I hadn't read any if the Spin Offs yet because I didn't want to have any spoilers, but I needed something lighter to read and felt I was far enough in the main series that I wouldn't encounter any. I was right. Not a full length novel, not quite a novella, this was still a good read.
The first case is set after the novella Stalking and features CCU Team 3 which is led by Sebastian and currently has Al, Paige, Jaz and Hernandez on it. The team are requested by the Garrity post of the Texas State Police. The man in charge is Chief Elliot Marshall who is the main character in Her Best Friend's Keeper, the first Finley Creek novel.
This was a quick read. It's not the best procedural I've ever read but it delivered what it promised and it gave a bit of a look into Team 3 and more specifically, Paige and Al's partnership. There was a bit too much reminiscing on who's who - I would've liked to see more investigation but there was a bit of a twist and I liked the ending. 3 stars.
This book assumed the reader knew a LOT about the characters.. Obviously there had been something significant happen to a bunch of them and that colours their reactions to this case. I knew nothing as I picked this book because it was free… to gauge whether to buy more in the series.. It seems all of Callie’s books are interconnected in some way either by characters or location or profession. This FBI team are investigating a series of threatening letters sent to a quiet unassuming librarian.. And what they find leads them to conclude that there is a very personal aspect to the threats.. but the book ends abruptly and there are still outstanding threads of stories to discover.. Of course, they are explored in another book.

This books was okay but when it got to the telling of whose who was so confusing, She was married to her best friend brother and this one was married to this one. The whole police station seemed all one big family. Anyhow there trying to find out whose stalking this lady. She a quite lady who writes books doesn't date have no enemies so she thought. She lived in town while her parents and siblings like out of town . Each had a piece of land or a home that the parents owned. She chose not to do that . The FBI got involved .People get greedy when someone dies , most get their hand out right away with "whats mine" Family or not- when it comes to money
A quick and intense read about a young woman from a small town who is being stalked. She is a writer of children's novels and part time librarian. She asked the PAVAD special crimes unit for help as the letters are getting more threatening. During the investigation the Team start to question her relationship to get family.
This story was a big let down to me. I had figured out her the culprits were as soon as thE sister enter the scene. There were way to much family on the FIB side. Totally not kosher. I was really disappointed in the story so easy to see through. There was more suspense in the FIB family.
Knocked out is a short novella which focuses on a team within the PAVAD that work together. Gillian is a writer and works elsewhere too and comes from a close knit family. However, someone is stalking her and trying to scare her. Not willing to be intimidated, she takes her issues to the police and they pull in the team from PAVAD to help.
I have to admit...I am ALWAYS waiting for another PAVAD book to come out, so when i found out that these were out, and that i had somehow missed reading them, I had to buy it. As usual, I thought it was well written, with great consistency in characters and situations...my only dislike was that it wasnt longer.
I quick intro to team 3 of the FBI PAVAD team. There is a lot of familial relationships, and the author needs to repeat them to help the reader keep it straight.
The team is immediately working as a case comes up which requires their expertise. Then it's connect the dots to track down the problem and help the victim. Some action and gun play before it's all over.
I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I want to. This is really cool book. There are a lot of interesting things about how the unit works. A woman being stalked draws attention of a special cases unit of the government highly recommended Ed.
I liked the story line, but it had too many earlier clues! If course, the man felt threatened, and denied his rightful, in his thinking, position in the family.
The PAVAD group where off to a small town in Texas about a stalking case. Single woman who really find do anything wrong, she worked at the local library and wrote & illustrated children's book. But she moved away from her family ranch. See what happens.
This was a great story by Calle J. Brooks! Wonderful characters, interesting plot and satisfaction at the end when the bad guys get their comeuppance. I have read almost all of the PAVAD stories and am looking forward to many more.
This was a good book and a fast reading one. Thanks for that. I started getting confused as to who each was married to. Nothing like making one huge family at work, literally. Not sure I could work like that. Thank you, I did enjoy this story.
I love the case file series to see a case start to finish. This was no exception. Great storyline and nice to see updates on our favorite characters while seeing them working out in the field.
I dislike her writing style. Too much time is spent on this or that family member association and gets the story too convoluted. I struggled through one book, this one I quit on chapter six and deleted the other one I had downloaded. Do not recommend.
Disappointed in this one. There wasn’t a lot happening, and that’s okay, but too much time was taken in thinking about family. A little would have set the scene but this just became confusing. Additionally, there were several grammatical errors that should have been picked up when editing.
there are too many characters and they’re relationships are too confusing, like why is everyone married to each other. they all ended up mushing together and most of them were very bland. the plot was boring and predictable.
Callie Brookes' books read like a high quality crime show such as Criminal Minds on tv. This novella is no exception. It features characters from her PAVAD series so personalities and backstory are familiar. Great case file story.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Started reading the book and was so lost. Felt like I'd missed something but this says it's book1. It just seems to jump right into a whole lot of stuff and it put me off.
