One New York Christmas is the second christmassy book written by Mandy Baggot that I have read, and I can officially say that her festive novels are must have during winter.
I loved the previous one (One Christmas in Paris) and I adored this one too.
The story follows Lara who spends her holidays in New York, trying to heal her broken heart.
On the other side there is Seth, a good looking actor with a kind heart, who tries his best to succeed in the acting career, and make his parents proud of him.
At first, I thought this will be a romantic, funny story, and it was, but it was also so much more.
The story explores some complex topics like adoption and unknownness of one’s own origin.
Then, it also talks about being homeless and how there are more then few reasons how one can end up on the streets, even when he’s trying to do something with his life.
The story also talks about family, friendships and human relationships, and it well inquires those aspects.
But at the same time, while talking about such serious subjects, it manages to entertain readers, make them laugh, relax then and put them into Christmas Spirit.
I liked almost all the characters, Seth and Lara, their best friends and their family members. There are only few “unlikeable” characters, which were ment to be “bad guys” of the story, but I didn’t mind them.
However, I have to stress out that one character I admired the most was New York itself.
Yes, you’ve read it right! Mandy Baggot described that city and it’s atmosphere during December so well, that it got his own role in the story, and I as a reader couldn’t forget that we were in New York.
That, my friends, is what I call amazing writing ability!
I loved almost everything about this story, but there is one (probably not that important) thing that made me feel a bit uncomfortable, and I will tell you what it is, because I’m always honest in my reviews. However, I think most people wouldn’t even notice that thing.
I didn’t like how Lara called her brother Aldo, who is adopted, her “almost-brother”. It happened 12 times in the story, and it made me feel like she was trying to separate herself from him, like stressing out that he was not her brother by blood was so important, she had to call him almost-brother instead just calling him brother instead?
I don’t know, we have one adopted family member (my father’s cousin) and I can imagine if his sister was calling him almost-brother it would hurt his feelings. It would make him feel like he wasn’t genuine part of the family, and it would be wrong.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading One New York Christmas and I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys festive chick lits and Christmas stories.
I can’t wait to see what other books Mandy Bagott has written/will write because this author is definitely on my tbr!

Mandy, you’ve done it again! I think it may be my favourite Mandy Baggot Christmas book ever!
Mandy’s books always have this effect on me, so well described that I feel I’m there. Seeing the sights, eating the food, feeling the emotions. They always give me a giggle too.
I loved the main characters of Lara and Seth.
At first Lara keeps thinking about her ex-boyfriend, but there’s no denying the chemistry with Seth. He may seem out of reach for her, I mean he’s the star of her favourite TV show, but he really is an ordinary guy. He’s just a jobbing actor after his next role.
There are some hilarious scenes as Seth’s ‘agent’ sets him up with some events that are supposed to promote him. The zoo and the ‘winter wonderland’ are classic examples.
The supporting roles of Susie and her boyfriend David, Seth’s parents and Lara’s family back home in rural England blended in beautifully to create such a lovely story.
Lara and Seth make every moment count while they spend some wonderful days together in New York. They discover the importance of being true to themselves, and truly learn how to follow their hearts.
It’s an amazing book and I will keep it in my heart.

I really enjoyed Mandy's Notting Hill story and couldn't wait to read this one. Choosing to read the book on my plane journey to New York and a little after. It didn't disappoint.
Lara heads with her friend to New York around Christmas time wondering if she'll ever be Dan's again. At first it's all about winning Dan back but in time discovers a man called Seth. Central park zoo was one of my favourite locations in NY and was happy to read about the park in this book. Lemur girl is such a cute nickname. I found Seth and Laras story quite predictable but an enjoyable one.
The writing really captures New York to me just like she did with Notting Hill. It helps the story when the setting is being described so well. The characters are so relatable and likeable that does make the story.
I can't wait to read more of Mandy Baggots stories they are so heartwarming.

It just wouldn't be the run up to Christmas without a Mandy Baggot Christmas book, and this one is as good as it gets. Who doesn't love reading about New York at Christmas, and add in some fabulous animal escapades, a red carpet, and some utterly fabulous characters, and you have a fabulous story.
That's not forgetting the slightly deeper story line surrounding Seth, who has his own journey of discovery to go on, which coincides with him auditioning for a part that he really wants. Oh and then there is Seth and his mum Kozzy and the shelter storyline, and a couple of really interesting homeless people that use the shelter.
Not to mention Lara who is in New York for the first time ever, well first time she has been abroad at all, all in an effort to get over her broken heart. She is a kick ass female lead, she drive a truck, thinks nothing of climbing tress, rescuing animals or standing up for what she believe in. It was fabulous to see New York through her eyes, and I especially related to her hatred of tights, and dressing up, and her reactions to all the shopping he best friend wants to do are fabulous.
Given the two different worlds that Lara and Seth inhabit, they wouldn't' normally have met each other had it not been for for their best friends. What does become apparent is their instant connection, they are clearly made for each other, but whether they will work it out is something you will need to read to find out.
This is just perfect festive reading, its warm and cosy, its funny, it has a bit of Christmas magic, realistic and likeable characters, snow, a round the world trip in food, some hilarious moments, great setting and just an all around wonderful book. Whether you are a fan of Mandy Baggot or new to the author, you can't go wrong with this book.

Mandy Baggot's Christmas offerings are always a treat, well, there wouldn't be Christmas without her book, no? "One New York Christmas" has exceptionally gorgeous cover and it teams together two of the best things: well, yes - Christmas, and New York. It takes us on a journey from a rural, peaceful Appleshaw in Wiltshire to the city that never sleeps, and moreover, at the most wonderful time of the year. Lara, our main character, loves her town and she also loves Christmas, and is looking towards it, especially as she's going to spend it with her boyfriend, Dan. Dan, however, has other plans and decides they need "a break", during which he's going to travel to Scotland. With another woman. Here you go. Lara's best friend Susie decides that Lara needs to make Dan jealous, and to do she needs to start tweeting some celebrities and get a reply from them (this is the bit that I didn't fully get, to be honest, as I wasn't sure how should it help). They both end in New York, in the company of Seth, an actor from Lara's favourite series, who's much more than meets the eye.
Lara was such a colourful, interesting character, and I liked her from the very first mention that she's a lorry driver. I mean, how clever? How many lorry driver female characters have you met? Exactly! What I also liked in her was the fact that she just bitten the bullet and wasn't afraid of trying, confronting, seeing - it was so refreshing, after so many heroines that simply bury their heads in the sand and wait for the problems to somehow disappear. Also, she was not a skinny - minnie swishing her blond hair around type of character, she was more of a tomboy - the lorry driving! - which made her seem a much more stronger person that she in fact was, but she wanted us to see the stronger version of her as well. I adored her passion and her love to her family. If you think about it, she's really a kick ass, our Lara, fierce, bouncy and almost fearless. She's not afraid of climbing trees, she rescues animals and she stands for herself or the things she believes in. Well, unless it comes to her love life. Then she lost her head, which is only understandable.
I also really appreciated the character of Seth, who, for once, was full of uncertainty and vulnerability, and was not a macho or too full of himself. There was warmth to him and I truly fell for him and I just wanted all the good things happen to him. His story added tons of seriousness to the book but the way Mandy Baggot tackled his issues was really great and she brilliantly captured him, and his coming out of comfort zones and confronting the past.
The supporting characters, both in the US and back in England, blend in brilliantly and complement each other in a great way.
I simply loved the descriptions of New York. They were so vivid and full of details and the fact that the city was seen through Lara's eyes for the first time made it even more exciting and beautiful. The author has so easily transported us to New York, brought this place to life, made it jump off the pages.
The story, however, dragged a little too much for my liking. I wanted action and things happening, and I got too much of the characters' inner indecisions and monologues, and it bothered me a little. Lara was also an adult and well, I just don't get this whole checking and showing and posting your life to the social media, to looking for comfort there, looking on Facebook at what it is your boyfriend is doing, checking there your relationship status - I mean, do I live in reality or do I live through social media? No, thank you. And I also missed this Christmas vibe - yes, the book was festive enough but this sparkle, this vibe wasn't there. It was also this little bit too predictable, you could see things coming a mile off, but oh well, yes, I could live with this. Also, referring to Aldo as "almost - brother" made me grit my teeth - either he was a brother, or not, no matter if he was adopted or not. And the regular reminders of Lara being so unusually a truck driver were not so necessary.
Mandy Baggot's writing style is like a hot chocolate, drawing you in and you simply want more and more of it. It's easy to follow, inviting and full of humour - though it took me some time to get into the book, no reason probably, just one of the things, and as I've already mentioned, it was a little too slow, especially at the beginning. It gained speed a little more in New York, when Lara and Seth started sight - seeing.
Altogether, "One New York Christmas" was a festive, funny and romantic read, full of unforgettable scenes, both funny and poignant. It's not as good as Mandy Baggot's "One Wish in Manhattan" that was a fantastic, festive novel that I loved with all my heart, but it's a nice enough, light - hearted book with a hidden depth. A lovely story about family dynamics and following your heart, full of heartbreak, hope, romance and happiness, it's a great way to cosy yourself in a blanket on a dark, cold evening. Recommended!

Well what can I say another fantastic book from one of my go to authors!
Christmas books are my favourite no matter what time of the year, yes I am also one of those people who watches Christmas films all year round 🤪. So I always look forward to getting my hands on a new one
A heroine who is a lorry driver you just don’t read that every day but it is indicative of Mandy’s willingness to step outside of the box with her ideas. You never quite know what will happen but one thing you can guarantee is laughs and a good dose of romance.
Seth and Lara had me laughing from the minute they met at the zoo and I loved getting to know them through their developing romance. Mandy’s descriptions of New York are immersive and made me want to go back there!
Was there anything I didn’t like - nope it’s Christmas with a hot guy in New York and a feisty heroine what more could you ask for? Perfect for snuggling up on a cold winters day with a blanket and a hot chocolate or, if you are like me perfect to read at any time of year 😉.

Wow, I have absolutely fallen in love with this book, it has been a truly wonderful heartwarming, entertaining Christmas read and it being set in New York was the cherry on top, perfect. I literally didn't want it to end.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the two main characters Lara and Seth, discovering their bond and chemistry was great fun and I may have fallen in love with Seth myself lol.
The scenes with Seth and Lara and the cute little Lemur at the zoo did half crack me up and had me in a fit of giggles, not to mention the scene where they rescued the reindeer. There was so many scenes to love in this story.
What also made the story perfect and enjoyable was the supporting cast i.e. all of the other characters as in Susie, David, Kossy, Ted, Candy, Trent, Tina the Truck, Felice, Earl, Mad Maggie and the completely lovable Aldo, he really was a star of a character. All of whom has their own little storylines going on which fitted perfectly into the rest of the story.
Completely random but this sentence which was in the story, truly had me in a fit of giggles 'Cow down, shift the gorilla into first and go easy on the ant'. If you want to know the context of that sentence, then you'll just have to read this book as I've no intention of giving out spoilers in my review.
There were plenty of other scenes throughout the story that gave me little giggles too. Also there were a couple of emotional moments/scenes that made my eyes water a little bit too.
I'm a massive fan of Mandy Baggot books, so I'm always recommending her books to my friends and other readers and this one will now also be included.

This is the first book I've read by Mandy Baggot and I loved it. Lara the main character is fearless and will throw herself into any situation without thinking about it too much. Then the main guy Seth, is a lovely character who also has a few things going on in the background. I found myself giggling at some of the scenes and overall the book gave me a nice warm and fuzzy glow. I would say that this is more than your normal 'chicklit' and 'fairytale' story it has warmth, courage and fun along the way. A really good book to settle down with and gets you in the mood for Christmas.

Mandy Baggot is an absolute GENIUS when it comes to creating a smashing set of characters, and One New York Christmas is no exception!
Lara's long-term boyfriend dumps her out of the blue and she has no idea what to do. Her small village and her relationship with him is all she knows. But her best friend, Susie, somehow convinces her to fly to New York and, once there, meet up with a dreamy actor she tweeted after a bit too much whisky. And so begins Lara's adventures in New York, which include major tourist attractions, some animal escapades, and even a little incident involving a spork. When in America, right?
There are so many moments where I laughed out loud, moments where I couldn't stop a tear from rolling down my cheek, and moments where I was so wrapped up in the adventures of Lara, Susie, Seth, Trent, and the others that I honestly wanted to be a part of the story myself. This is a romance novel, but it's also so much more than that. It's about discovering yourself and getting out of your comfort zone, and also features some relationships that aren't romantic, but are equally as charming to read about.
Mandy Baggot impressed me last year with One Christmas Kiss in Notting Hill, and she's done it again with One New York Christmas. It's impossible not to fall in love with Mandy's characters and stories. I can't wait to read more from her!

I've always enjoyed Mandy's books and she didn't let me down again at all as this book was so good I was hooked from the first page the characters are brilliant and story line is so good and has you laughing and crying at times as so brilliant. It's easy to read and of course full of Christmas time which is brilliant. It shows how sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and do something you wouldn't usually do and go with it am deathly you can have fun. Full of heartbreak and romance and happiness and such a warm read and worth more than the five stars.

She's so upset but her best friend susie suggests making him jealous and to contact famous people on twitter and show him she can speak with famous people and susie does this for her and someone called Seth who is from New York who is an actor contacts her and they get chatting he says if she's ever over his way to contact him. Susie quickly acts on this and says they can go to New York but of course she's is unsure due to work and not having money to go but susie contacts her boyfriend who live so out there and they soon have flights out there so is it the right step to make Dan jealous and want her back. Once she is out ere she's learns Seth is going to be at a zoo and she goes along and she makes a fool of herself as she falls out of a tree in front of se but they get chatting and start seeing quite a bit of each other and she takes photos of herself with Seth to post on twitter to make Dan think. They soon get very friendly ans realise they have things in common as she can't remember hire mum and he was adopted and is thinking of getting in contact with his real mother. She suggest how to do this and they start going out to places she never dreamt she would go even attending a red carpet event. Sadly she learns that when they first chatted it wasn't with him it was with his agent and she isn't happy at all so storms off and can they make it up before she is due to go home and does she get some other surprises along the way. When Dan messages saying he made a mistake what does she think who will she decide to be with and will she be happy ever after or not. Also where will she spend Christmas and will she be with her family or not.

I really enjoyed One New York Christmas. Mandy’s books are usually set on the island of Corfu so it was nice to have a change of continent.

I absolutely enjoyed this new one by Mandy! I’m a sucker for a good Christmas story but this one had so much depth to it as well as being a fun story! The book follows English country girl Lara and her best friend Susie on their trip across the pond to enjoy the Christmas season in New York. Lara is on a mission to escape her troubled relationship with boyfriend Dan. This mission causes her to cross paths with television actor crush Seth Hunt. The story follows the two as they navigate their budding friendship through misadventures, Christmas sight seeing and the occasional firework. The book brings in more complexity as Seth begins the process of learning more about his birth mother. Overall this book is the perfect blend of light hearted Christmas fun with the heavier adoption topic and a sprinkle of comedy with a dash or 3 of romance! Thanks to Mandy for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Buddy-read/buddy-groaned my way through this one with Lenya on the lead-up to christmas.
I‘m sure many will enjoy this but I just can not deal with these chiclit tropes and stereotypes anymore, gosh. Just bored.
Definitely very British and cozy in style but nothing really happens that you couldn‘t foretell.

Our main male lead Seth is an actor, having known success (Lara is a fan before New York is even mentioned) he is now a jobbing actor on the hunt for his next big role and has his sights set on a role that is perfect for him. His best friend, now acting as his agent, starts something on Twitter that has unexpected consequences for all involved. Seth is kind, caring and gets swept away in Trent’s crazy, but well intended plans that lead him to a chance encounter with Lara. The connection between the two characters is instant, although they are from two completely different worlds. I enjoyed seeing how they developed and hoped that we could see each character get the happy ending they deserved.
Mandy Baggot’s writing is descriptive and draws you in but it did take a few chapters to be fully invested but, once I was there was no stopping me - I read quickly as I was so keen to see how things were going for both Lara and Seth. The additional characters in this book are funny and you will like them – Susie and her boyfriend; Kossy, all the characters from the shelter, Trent; each adding something interesting to the story and helping Lara and Seth discover themselves (and each other!) I feel like I would have liked to hear more about some of them, not a criticism more of me being greedy to have more.
I giggled a lot reading this book, especially thanks to some interesting animal escapades and was enticed to consider many new holiday destinations. I found it emotional in some places, especially in terms of Seth when he was searching for answers, not fully knowing if he really wanted to discover the truth. There's a very simple explanation for why I decided to read this book, being how the synopsis says "If you love Josie Silver's One Day In December, you'll love this one". Long story short: I absolutely loved it. But did I love this one as much?
If I have to be absolutely honest with myself, the answer to that question is no. I liked One New York Christmas tons, but I didn't get the unique vibe One Day in December gave me and that's absolutely okay! There will never be two books that have the exact same impact on a person and I don't expected it either.
But was it good? Yes, it definitely was! I loved the characters Baggot created. From heart-broken, but adventurous Lara to struggling Seth, to shopping-addicted Susie and caring Kossy. I loved them all. They all felt unique and actually added to the story in their own ways which was a beautiful thing to see.
Baggot's writing? Yes, please! If there's one thing I pretty much demand when reading chick lits, it's a writing style that draws me in and makes me forget how much I'm reading in a short period of time. I flew through this book, finished it in no time and was ready for more. That's what a book like this one is supposed to do, right?
As for the story.. Sure, I could see things coming a mile off but there are such fun events and encounters that made it all worthwhile! The situations Lara got herself into are funny and lightened the entire novel.
But there's one thing I didn't really like. I already had a bit of an issue with it while reading, but afterwards it got worse. While our two main characters, Lara and Seth, feel pretty fleshed out.. That isn't the case for the side characters. I feel like their relationships and friendships are pushed to the back a bit too much. I wish I knew more about Susie and David, about Lara's brother Aldo and.. maybe even some more about Seth's parents. I really think having that would've added so much to this novel for me.
That isn't to say I didn't enjoy reading it, because I most definitely did! It wasn't a five star book, but still a very enjoyable read if you feel like cozying up for the festive season.

I’m going to start by saying that Lara isn’t your stereotypical female lead. Yes, she has emotional barriers, but she just gets on with life. That’s not to say she’s doesn’t feel emotions. For me she came across as resilient (perhaps something she has learnt growing up with her dad and her ‘almost’ brother Aldo). Her skills, in our culture, we would place firmly in the domain of males. I loved how physical she was and not at all bothered by the scrapes she found herself in! She does have limitations she’s set for herself and throughout the story, her experiences in NY have a direct affect on expanding those boundaries, opening up to other possibilities and plans for what she wants to do. I loved her! Best friend Susie compliments her perfectly.
Seth IS emotional. He’s sensitive and thoughtful without coming across as a wimp. Who wouldn’t want to help this gorgeous and vulnerable man! The acting scene in Cafe Cluny was pure class. I could feel the emotion rolling off in waves, clapping enthusiastically myself at the end! I adored his mum Kossy, not only for the years of selfless giving at the shelter but also how she supports him emotionally in his need to find out more.
Fabulous scenes in New York provide plenty of emotions both laughter and tears. Loved Seth’s inspired idea for travelling the world 🙂

I’ve lost track of how many Mandy Baggot books I’ve read but what I will say is that you know exactly what you are going to get with them.
Writing that is easy to read, likeable and engaging characters, wonderfully descriptive of the locations in the book and a warm, fuzzy, and yes cheesy, storyline.
Enjoyable and reliable.

What a wonderful book. It maybe cold and chilly in New York, but the story leaves you feeling warm inside. I loved this book, curled up on the sofa with the rain beating down outside. I just kept reading and reading, eager to see what would happen between Lara and Seth. I was transported to New York, the detail of the City was great, felt like I was back there again. This is a book that leaves you with a real good feel factor. Just what we all need on these dark so her evenings.

This book is one of the best Christmas books I have read so far this year and I couldn't put it down.
A superb easy feel good story which I absolutely loved reading curled up in the warm. I felt I had been transported back to “chilly Christmassy” New York thanks to the author’s fantastic detailed descriptions of the city and people.
The characters in the story are all unique in their own way and not your usual type of people that you generally find in this genre of book.
The story is filled with some hilarious moments (especially the zoo and the Winter Wonderland scenes) and lots of serious ones too but the morale behind the story is sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone and do something we wouldn't usually do. So be like Lara and just do it.

I've read and enjoyed quite a few of Mandy Baggot's other books and enjoyed them, this fell into the same category of having enjoyed it. Mandy has the ability to transport you to other countries and immerses you in the lives of her characters. It was the perfect feel good book for the Christmas season with plenty of romance and secrets to keep you engaged in it.

I always love a new book from Mandy Baggot. She transports you right into another world with wonderful characters that you get to know so well.
Lara takes a holiday to New York with her best friend after a break up. Her friend hatches a plan to make her ex jealous and Lara ends up meeting a wonderful character who is a real dreamboat. He’s an actor looking for a big break and he has a heart of gold and a wonderful family who help the homeless. There is a huge attraction between them but is the timing right for either? Can Lara , who is a homebird get used to the red carpet trappings that Seth’s world introduces her to.
I wanted to hop on a plane to New York to see the sights at Christmas. It is on my wishlist and this book just transported me straight there and made me want to move this right to the top of my list.

I really didn’t want this book to end, it was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. It tells the story of newly single Lara, who with her best friend, flies to New York on a quest to meet Dr Mike/Seth Hunter in the hope he can help win her boyfriend back. It was quite obvious that the gorgeous Seth was not going to only help mend her heart but also steal it!

With the book world currently dominated by psychological thrillers.....which I absolutely love by the way, it is so refreshing after chills and thrills and shivers down your spine to pick up a Mandy Baggot book and have a lighthearted, laugh out loud read.
If I'm honest this book didn't grab me straight away as Mandy's books usually do but as I got a few more pages in I soon realised that Mandy was once again creating fantastic characters and brilliantly setting the scenes for where her books are set. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Lara when she took herself off for a trip of a lifetime. With her best friend Susie and Trent, the best friend of actor Seth, doing some social media stirring, the two are brought together in unlikely circumstances. Will Lara's heart stay back at home with unfaithful Dan, or will she take a chance on someone she's only just met? Lara is stupidly loyal...I wanted to shout at the pages for her when she was considering Dan....this is how you get about Mandy's characters...every time....you feel an instant connection. The storyline flows, the characters are brilliantly funny, and it's the sort of book you remember, and can't wait to recommend to your friends.
New York has never been a place I have wanted to visit.......until now. This book made me want to visit new York at Christmas with all the brilliantly written scenes and descriptions. Mandy had done it again with another fab book....a absolute Christmas cracker of a read..
If I'm honest this book didn't grab me straight away as Mandy's books usually do but as I got a few more pages in I soon realised that Mandy was once again creating fantastic characters and brilliantly setting the scenes for where her books are set. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Lara when she took herself off for a trip of a lifetime. With her best friend Susie and Trent, the best friend of actor Seth, doing some social media stirring, the two are brought together in unlikely circumstances. Will Lara's heart stay back at home with unfaithful Dan, or will she take a chance on someone she's only just met? Lara is stupidly loyal...I wanted to shout at the pages for her when she was considering Dan....this is how you get about Mandy's characters...every time....you feel an instant connection. The storyline flows, the characters are brilliantly funny, and it's the sort of book you remember, and can't wait to recommend to your friends.

Lara's practical, no-nonsense attitude to life hides a certain emotional vulnerability. A contemporary romantic heroine, she drives trucks for a living but also finds time to look after her father, and as she describes him'nearly brother Aldo. Travelling to New York for Christmas isn't on her festive agenda until her boyfriend betrays her and her supportive friend Susie makes her an offer too tempting to turn down.
Lara is a likeable character and her fun-filled adventures in New York are romantic and thought-provoking. Seth is on an emotional journey of his own, and meeting Lara is unexpected but perfectly timed. Both characters are trying to find out what life has in store for them and together they experience a romantic, poignant Christmas experience in New York.
The descriptions of New York are detailed and vivid, letting the reader experience the city's vibrancy at this special time of year.
