This has such an interesting premise and I've liked what I've read so far. It's hard to believe that a group of four can get anywhere against bad guys who've been around for years. It'll be interesting to see where Davis takes this story.

This is a series starter by an author I really like and one I’ve never read before, which I really like to read new authors. To add to that, it’s a YA/NA genre book which I will admit is a genre I’m ambivalent about. I have teens of my own, and that affects my reading about them in a not good way. Anyway, this book was very interesting. I love the plot, the characters are interesting, and the action is great. I found some of the decisions that Quinn made a little frustrating; she seemed too smart and savvy to make such irrational and immature decisions…one of the reasons I am reluctant to read YA/NA books. LOL! However, this was still a good book, and I am definitely looking forward to finding out what happens next. 4 ½ stars. Recommend, and I was provided a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Look. This is Gamelit-lite. To the point that I was hesitant throwing it up on my litrpg shelf (which might still come off).

This is a pretty standard "chosen one initiation book". There's not a lot of new concepts or ideas, but it does do a nice integration between a VR game and the main story arc of the series.

It's a fairly quick read as well, so I would recommend this for anyone that wants something more of a popcorn style read.

This is book is a combination of Urban Fantasy, with a very light touch of the new Genre on the Block – LitRPG (only a smidge though). It is fast paced, compelling, with some fun characters, good dialogue, and an interesting storyline that keeps adding bits to increase both the tension and the enthralling nature of the story.
The story follows a young woman called Quinn Faust. Quinn was abandoned as a baby with only an amulet and a note that had her name on it. She has always thought that the amulet has provided her with some protective abilities, some foresight to when danger is coming.
Quinn and her friend Taylor have just graduated, and have been offered paid internships at a new IT company called VirSync. Taylor is what one could only call a complete computer geek, but in the nicest possible way, as she has mad skills when it comes to computer programming. Quinn on the other hand is ok, but she is incredibly athletic, loves sport, and martial arts, so both of them made good candidates for the internship as it has a strong athletic component as it is to train new soldiers.
However, on their first ‘training’ night, things go horribly wrong for Quinn, and when they are tasked to hunt down and ‘kill’ a target in a supposed game with Vampires and Werewolves, her target actually becomes a person, and her amulet starts to strange things.
It is from here that the book goes from being about two College Grads trying out at there first job, to a story about mysterious legends of Hunters, amulets of protection and power, and Magic that can bring forth Demons, including those that can inhabit the bodies of those with unclean souls.
There is an outstanding amount of world building that has gone into this book, from the detail that has gone into the magic system, the items, the Hunter Clans, and the Mages, Demons and the magic associated with them. It makes for a great read when the Author has put so much thought into the background of the story and their characters.
Quinn is a great character, again, the Author has made a lot of effort to build her up slowly, giving us some decent background, enough to keep us interested, but certainly wanting more (I know I want book 2 now, like NOW), Clark and Miranda are brilliant, I do have to admit, I did find Taylor a little annoying at times, but that could just be her personality, and the fact I work with a lot of this type of person.
Quinn definitely makes up for any short-comings in characters though, with the quick fire attitude and comments, there are times when you are just laughing out loud at her.
This is developing into a fun, fast paced and excellent book with a lot of really fascinating qualities that just draw you and keep you riveted to the book, until you realise it is 4am and you have to get up in 2hrs for work.
I think this has something for everyone, especially if you like anything with the prefix ‘Urban”. I’m generally a Sci-Fi person, but I love Jamie Davis’ books, and this does not disappoint, he continues to write exceptional character driven stories that are just a lot of fun to read – get into it now!!

The use of VR to perform assassinations was an interesting premise and I was intrigued right from the start. However I started to feel uneasy about a third of the way into the book and eventually realised I really didn't like the story. I'm not sure why, but it didn't help that I really don't like mind control and possession stories.

Went in a different direction than I was expecting

I thought this story would be one thing, but it was a tricksy little thing and wiggled off in another direction. Not a bad thing, but not quite was I was looking for.

ok

This book started out so boring. I didn’t even think that I was going to finish it. This book didn’t actually start getting really interesting until close to the end. This is the only reason I did not give this book a two star rating. Quinn and her best friend went to work for this company that used a lot of virtual reality game playing. When they started getting into the VR I thought it was pretty boring. I thought maybe Quinn was supposed to have some other types of powers, but apparently most of her powers are through the VR And a pendant that she has from her parents. This book reminded me of the movie the matrix where the people get plugged into the VR and that is where they would get all of their super powers and stuff. Quinn was also kind of stupid in this book where she thought she had to try and rescue her friend all by herself, because she was too stubborn and pigheaded to wait for anybody else to help her. I don’t think I’m going to read the next book in the series.

Huntress Initiate - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Quinn Faust was left on a police station doorstep as a baby, by her parents who were fleeing for their lives from a deadly nemesis, desperate to save their child from a similar fate.

Her only link to her unknown heritage is the amulet she had from her mother and even that seems like little more than a sentimental memento, of loved ones she was too young ever to have known about.

Things change rapidly, when a job Quinn takes with a VR testing company leads to soul-destroying danger, not only for the eponymous Huntress, but also friends old and new she's made while at the facility, where reality and fantasy seem to trade places at random.

To find out the truth about Quinn's backstory, her new purpose and the means of securing the Hunter Legacy while starting her Initiate training, you'll have to get a copy of Jamie Davies' Huntress Initiate, (The Huntress Clan Saga Book 1).

Don't delay - the future of our Planet and everyone on it depends on you helping Quinn, Taylor, Melinda and Clark to provide the answer to a great mystery!

Jamie Davis is one of my favorite authors and the reason why is stories such as Huntress Initiate, first in his new Huntress Clan Saga series. I love Quinn Faust. She’s just the sort of kick-a** gal in the making that I adore in my sci-fi and fantasy tales, and she’s beautifully complex to boot. Add in a great plot that’s perfectly written and a well-built supporting cast and story universe. The result is a definite winner. I am very much looking forward to book 2 and am happy to strongly recommend this book.

A little bit of madness

What will happen to a teenager orphan who doesn’t know what she is? Left on a fire station door step as a baby with only a first name and a necklace, she grows up in the foster care system. Damaged and headstrong, she’s recruited into a game company to test a new virtual reality device. A good read.

Good opener

Characters are well developed, but the techno magic thing needs a bit of work or more explanation... the book could work without it which makes me think its not central to the plot in its current form...

Good

Good enough, but I honestly lost interest after a while. The story just seemed to follow the same cook cutter parrern as so many other stories published during the last few months. There was nothing special hat made it stand out from all the others in the genre.

Good start

Enjoyed reading about Quinn and company. The premise is interesting although cloaked in an obvious good versus evil storyline. Good character development and am willing to keep reading to see where this goes.

Vol. #1, YA. Magic and technology mix with demons to fight - with a talent-filled 18-year-old girl and her BFF to take them on. Action story, just follow the three color stripes on the floor (( not really significant at all)). Purchased $0.99from Amazon Prime vol. 1 - 6 Kindle

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book and have already started the second in the series. It has similarities to Davis' Accidental Thief books, especially in how magic and technology were intertwined, yet each series did it differently. A light, fun read that I recommend!

Quinn irritated me so much and then I remembered, she’s a teenager!! This was a quick read, VR meets the paranormal. Quinn is sent away by her parents as a baby in order to be saved. Ow on her 18th birthday she’s coming into her huntress legacy, all because of a VR game.

I liked the combination of fantasy and science fiction, but I think it was not enough fast-paced that I got lost into the story. I won't be continuing this series, but it's still an interesting ones for those who are more patient than I am.
