OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

So far, I lived in 5 and visited many more countries described in this book. I have to say, the descriptions are way too positive.

If you read this book, take it as nice words of wisdom to apply to your daily life.
Don’t take it as a real guide to visit fairyland or you would get disappointed.

Since one can't go travelling at the moment, I saw this book and thought, hmmm, goes with my love of travelling and culture learning. Nice, interesting snippets (and probably more interesting reading my own country's 'cultural' stuff, just to see what they had to say and whether or not I agreed - interesting and yes, I did, though not sure that everyone follows that line of thought), but still, lovely pics, interesting cultural snippets, and easy read, that one can dip into.

A delightful and relaxing way to spend time. The pictures in the book are lovely and I like the fact that they choose to focus on what each culture add on to the world.
What i think is a minus is the fact that didn’t include Cambodia in Asian countries. It’s hard to believe “Angkor Watt” didn’t qualify. Another missing piece is Guatemala. Which is again puzzling for me.
Overall a good book and an excellent present for someone who enjoys travels.

Although I expected something different prior to reading it, I enjoyed getting to know better the world's cultures.
I would have liked for there to have been a couple of pages about each country in the world.
