When Katherine Collins interviews for an executive position with the Nielsen Agency’s CEO, Vincent Juliano, she meets a man who is just as devilishly handsome as he is successful. Katherine soon embarks in a full-blown affair with her new boss, only to find that he holds a dominant, dark side that knows no boundaries.
Unable to resist this sexy, mysterious man, Katherine finds herself wrapped up in a seductive world that she never knew existed, and powerless to escape. But when the lines between business and pleasure begin to blur, Juliano makes Katherine an offer she can’t refuse, forcing her to choose between her career and the man she can’t give up.
This was unlike any romance I have ever read. I didn’t like most of it, but it was well written. The book didn’t have a lot of spelling error or grammatical issues, but I thought I was getting one thing and I got something different. Maybe that was my fault for assuming, but overall I didn’t really like the characters.
The blurb mentions that Vincent Juliano has a dark dominant side, so I incorrectly assumed the the the title referred to the BDSM type of Mistress. It does say that Katherine Collins gets involved in an affair with her boss. However, I’ve seen a lot of books where the terms mistress and affair are used to describe any type of taboo relationship, such as a boss/employee romance.
Though this time those terms were used in the traditional sense, meaning relationship with a married man. I guess I didn’t immediately think that because most romance readers, including me, don’t like to read about the heroine getting romantically involved with a married man. A lot of books even specify in the blurb, that there is no cheating.
I personally don’t like it because I think that the couple involved shouldn’t do it and it is cruel. I mean, divorce is so common these days that if you don’t want to be with someone, just divorce them before you get with someone else, and couples that stay together for the children should know that the children will probably be much better off if they aren’t living with unhappy and/or fighting parents.
I get that Kat started to fall for her boss before he told her he was married, but after he tells her, he still doesn’t tell her anything about his wife or his marriage and she still gets intimately involved with him. Though Vincent does eventually tell Kat why he doesn’t divorce his wife, he is not overly forthcoming and is kind of a jerk most of the time.
The dominance and BDSM scenes were extremely steamy. I just couldn’t get over how weak Katherine was to give in to Victor and how much of prick he was. Everything was on his time, she waited to hear from him, and he was inappropriate to her at the office (not sexually, because that was consensual), but in ways that would be considered sexual harassment. There was possessiveness and jealousy, which I usually like in a romance novel, but it went to far for my comfort.
The book does have a great ending with an HEA, but a small part of it didn’t make sense to me. I know this review sounds pretty negative, but most of it was my personal preference and might not be the same for all readers. Some readers might not mind the fact that he is married.
I know that a lot of classic romance novels involved married men. Mr. Rochester was married in Jane Eyre and in Anna Karenina was involved in an affair with a Count Vronsky. Jane Eyre is one of my favorites but Jane didn’t know that Rochester was married for a great deal of the book, and I never really like Rochester. I mean what kind of person locks a madwoman in the attic?
So if you don’t mind adultery, jerks and if you like BDSM, then you will probably like this book. As I said, the intimate scenes were spicy (5 out of 5 hot peppers 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶), and the ending was good. For myself I give it 2.5 stars out of five, rounded up to 3.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When Catherine gets a job at Nielsen Agency she doesn't expect to get involved with her boss, but that's exactly what happens. Unfortunately, I find this story lacking and unrealistic. Vincent is self-called dominant but he is a jerk, there was no negotiation, nothing safe, sane or consensual with his BDSM games, he was possessive and not a bit emotionally involved. He just takes what he wants and playing dominating jealous boyfriend, while being married is just unfair. He is very selfish and buying his way out of his guilt. I expected more suspense, some twist or at least some more drama with his wife. Some characters (like Molly) could have a potential plot there but is bypassed. Catherine is quite immature about her decisions. Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me, despite liking that genre and themes.
Thank you Netgalley and author for the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The book is not as expected. For some reason I thought the book would be darker, I didn't expect to read something that is borderline amateurish. The writer's writing style is not my cup of tea and I don't like any of the characters in the book. While the characters are all adults, they certainly don't act like one. Neither the hero nor the heroine are likeable and while I am no moral police, the relationship that they are involved in is absolutely abhorrent and one that I just cannot get on board with.
Intriguing read but be advised that Vincent is married in this book and not to Katherine. Katherine begins working for Vincent Juliano and sparks fly between them. He is dark and dominant and Katherine can’t seem to stay away from him. This is a fast-paced read with lots of drama and suspense. The chemistry is intense and the story is off the charts hot. I really liked it.
While this is a bdsm novel, the title is a reference to the fact that Vincent is married. Katherine is well aware of this fact when they embark and their affair and becomes a kept woman. Vincent pays her for her time.
This is not your typical romance, in fact, there is a point in the novel when I feel the sex turns into rape, and this is not for everyone. While this book wasn't what I expected, I was drawn into the story, and I wanted to know how it ended. Unfortunately, I didn't get my ending as it ends on a cliff hanger, but I will definitely be seeking out the next book to find out what happens, I recommend this book to anyone who likes something different.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Unfortunately this was not a good book. Catherine is childish and immature, and Vincent is just a bully. The ending is not convincing, and it really did not work for me.
If you like erotica you’ll like this, you’ll find characters you’ll love and maybe even a charity you may not not love at all.......but then again who knows ...... I don’t think it went the direction I thought it would so I was pleasantly surprised in the end
A steamy sexy, smoking hot romance book. I loved the characters. Great steamy storyline. I loved the sexy romance scenes. I'm not normally interested in stories about cheating but I found myself loving the fluad characters.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for giving me the chance to read and review this book. First and foremost this is a good first try in the erotica genre for this author, and I think with good direction and influence she will be a great addition to this bdsm/erotica world. We were introduced to Katherine who when on an interview at Vincent's' agency, and at fist sight she felt some form of attraction towards him. The relationship between the main character and her boss started off awkward and forced. it's like the author wants to establish an attraction between the two but is hesitant. To me it was uncomfortable on how forced this attraction was, and at time I felt as if I missed something major in the story in regards to the inter-office flirting. The Character mentioned something about heavy office flirting, but that was something that me, the reader, was never shown. The sex scenes between the two didn't seem to be organic at all, and I wouldn't even call what they did to be bdsm. towards the end of the book the author finally let the reader know that there were sex toys involved, and it left me wondering why did she incorporate that into there sex scenes. I mean that is the whole point of the character having handcuffs and other toys. Overall this was an okay read, but the story had potential to be so much more.
Mistress isn’t a bad book. I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Not too sure if I liked it. I’m literally in limbo.
Let’s start with the positives. Mistress is R. Katz first erotica and I must say she DELIVERED. Those pages were hot. Steaming. Scalding. I wanted more. You guys know I’m greedy. All in all, the premise & the storyline itself had a lot of potential. Even though by the end I could guess where it was going by pulling the threads. I can handle predictability, my issues are with the execution.
First off, I think it moved so fast to the point where some things felt abrupt. Others made me roll my eyes… e.g. she claimed to have fallen for her boss after knowing him for like two weeks ffs!! Some of you might have an issue with the whole affair thing but my morals aren’t that straight. I’m just disappointed that Katz didn’t exploit this aspect of her story. She could have given us brimstone, fire & drama. I didn’t see none of that.
As the name suggests, our female protagonist finds herself becoming the "other one in the relationship" to a devilishly handsome and older guy. At first, everything is hot and humid but Kat(the protagonist) uncovers sides of the guy(Vincent) that she's not sure are healthy. Let me just start of by saying I really liked it. All opinions stated below are my own and genuine. I would like to thank Netgalley and the author for the review copy.
Let me start of by saying that I loved the heroin because I could totally relate to her. The beginning had Fifty Shades vibes but thankfully it didn't copy any aspects of the other books in its genre. There were no dull moment in it. Since I am a hardcore fan of erotic books, I did feel the scenes weren't that steamy but that's beside the point. Also I didn't know it was a series when I requested the copy, I wasn't ready for the ending hence wise. But other than those two things, I liked it a lot and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next books.
I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going into when I jumped into this book. I often like going in blind. I’m so glad I did! I feel I could relate to Kat in many ways throughout this book. Not necessarily geographically or career wise (until the end). But her experiences that she goes through during the book. The book has some erotica but also a good love story as well in it. It’s different but a good different. I definitely recommend!
This was a steamy erotica novel. I would recommend this if your interested in wild hot sex. I felt like Katherine wanted to walk on the wild side and Vincent, her boss and lover, literally gave her a run for her money. I don’t think Katherine had a lot of chemistry with Vincent and you definitely do not expect where the book takes you... I could see this being a series. I would rate this a three out of five. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This was ARC was provided by Netgalley.
Katherine Collins takes on an executive position at the Nielsen Agency and falls fast and hard for CEO Vincent Juliano. Vincent has a dark, possessive side that Katherine can not resist. When Katherine loses an important client, Vincent makes her an offer, which has her choosing between her career or carrying on with the affair.
This novel was nothing like anything I have read before, so I have to give the author credit for her ingenuity. The writing in the book was smooth which made it easy to read, but sadly, very predictable.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion This book was so intense in parts. I hurt for the main character and the choices she made. It was a good and realistic read.
This storyline grabs you from the start. You become connected with the main character and fun yourself on a roller coaster. This isn't your typical not meets girl story. The only thing I didn't like was the ending was abrupt. But it didn't take away from the storyline at all.
An ok book but it lack a bit of the usual spice you should get out of this style. I liked the main character Kat, but I felt like sometimes she had backbone and sometimes she didn’t. And the abruptness that it ended over a text message just didn’t sit right. Nice try though, if there is a sequel maybe I’ll read it but I’m not committing.
