From the fairytale forest of Snow White to the contemporary world of Toy Story, Disney and Pixar movies do an amazing job of introducing unique worlds. Those worlds have now been mapped out. Each of the twenty-four beautifully illustrated maps brings to life the movies we know and love, and each comes with further information about the movie and the characters. This is a book of maps that will please fans young and old!
Note: The decision was made to consolidate all Disney publications under the name Walt Disney Company. This profile is for Walt Disney, the characters he created, and the company he founded. Any questions, please ask in the Librarian's Group.
Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
Thank you Scholastic Australia for sending me this beautiful book!
This book was so much fun! I absolutely loved it!
There is something exciting about a map, something that promises adventures and buried treasure, and these Disney Maps are just that.
This book brings back all the happy memories and nostalgia from some Disney favourites. The illustrations are are vibrant and beautifully drawn, sparking imagination and fun. Out of the 25 maps my favourite was the Peter Pan one of Neverland.
I highly recommend this book, it is a must have for Disney fans of all ages!
If you love Disney movies this book is for you! The beautiful colorful artwork brings the maps of each of the twenty-four Disney movies to life. Furthermore, enjoyed the additional factoids and story moments to remember.
Disappointing. Not really an atlas of actual maps at all. Each movie gets a double-page spread collage of scenes from the film. Sometimes they're arranged in a loose map like the island of Neverland from Peter Pan, but most of the time it's just a bunch of images randomly scattered on a page. There are no details or new information or anything to spark the imagination.
Each movie also has a double-page spread of "information" from the film, but they're just lists of memorable moments and characters and whatnot. Very much a book for kids with little to interest adults.
I thoroughly enjoyed looking at this book little by little as I had the time. The artwork is stunning! It really brought every single Disney movie to life in the most magical way! I also enjoyed learning some fun facts about each movie; some of them I didn’t know! Just a really nice book for the viewing pleasure of any Disney fan!
What a beautiful book! I loved getting the visual look at how the different lands were laid out. I would’ve preferred more “Easter egg” info on the pages than such a huge recap of the movie.
Cute, well-illustrated maps laying out the landscape of your favorite Disney movies. No real surprises here, just a nice-looking book to skim through.
Presumably to pad out the pages, each map is accompanied by an odd bullet point list of highlights from the movie (which is basically the movie's plot) and images of the main characters (so you can find them on the accompanying map?). Unnecessary, but gotta get that page count somehow, I suppose.
Since I between reads last night I decided to pick up the Disney Maps book from the Walt Disney Company! This was a very quick little read but an intriguing read that no Disney lover should be without. It's a collection of specially drawn maps for 24 Disney movies. Some places we know well, some not as much. But the illustrations were just darling and it was fun to see the stretch of land where the well-known characters traveled on their movie journeys.
The maps were of a simple variety that showed all the key places the characters encountered during the movie. But it wasn't just a book of colorful maps, there was also a page that would give you the "blurb" for the movie, plus a short summary of key points, and then a column of something fun and interesting! This tended to vary upon the movie, like items you might have seen in Ariel's grotto, or fun facts about the Sydney Harbour from Finding Nemo. Then of course there was a page that was a key of characters.
Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorites naturally! Just seeing the familiar village and castle, it was an enjoyable read. Now I find myself wanting Disney to create a similar book but one that maps out the Disney princess' castles! Like getting a picture of the castle from the inside that maps out where the library is, the ballroom, the kitchen, dining room, etc. Of course I'm thinking Beauty and the Beast with that one, but the other castles would be fun too! Like even detailing where the secret corridor is that the hypnotized Aurora traveled to find the spinning wheel. Of course this book doesn't exist. I just want it to!
All in all, this is a super quick little read and is meant for the true Disney lover who likes that little inside look into their favorite movies! The added "fun facts" from each map were a delight to read as they sometimes gave you something new to see or learn about a beloved movie.
When it comes to letting your eyes roam and explore, who doesn't love a map?
In a beautiful, colorful and undeniably magical new book from Disney Books, 'Maps: A Magical Altas of the Movies We Know and Love' is a fun and adventurous read for those ready to explore the unique worlds of some of Disney's classic films in a unique way.
Mapping out 24 of Disney's films, and with an exciting foreword by Pete Docter (Director of Monsters, Inc.; Up and Inside Out and Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios), this book is a visual feast. It provides not only maps to famous story locations, but also includes 'moments to remember', character keys and trivia checklists unique to each film.
A beautifully finished large hardcover book, it will add a little magic to your coffee table or bookshelf and equip you with all the necessary tools for your adventure down memory lane!
The cover of ᴅɪsɴᴇʏ ᴍᴀᴘs is just as gorgeous as the rest of this book. It gives you some little sneak peeks from the maps included and it even has beautiful metallic blue edges. The quality of the whole book is definitely next level.
This atlas features an overview of the various Disney movies and the year they have been released in form of a timeline map. Every movie then got some pages with a beautifully curated map as well as quite a few infos about the content of each movie, the characters, as well as some little special features.
This book is definitely one of our biggest treasures on our shelves and we love it dearly. It’s great how it lets you relive the precious moments of your childhood as it brings up memories every time you open it. We highly recommend this book to all you Disney lovers out there.
Enjoyable, cute illustrations. I understand not every movie could be included but I do wish that Tangled and Mulan had been as well as the Land of the Dead from Coco since that was where the main plot of the movie took place.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book, and I am not sure what to think of it after I read it as well. The book contains "maps" of areas in the Disney movies, but I'm not sure where they got the topography for said maps. Each entry features the map, a list of moments, along with the cast of characters from the film. The book was written for young children and I think it would be a nice book to share with a kid but as an adult, there wasn't much really to get out of it.
Beautiful pics, fond way to enjoy the memories from the movies without having to watch them. Only two 2-page spreads per movie its fast to absorb or skip the ones you dont like. The pics are so enjoyable you'll read at leisure. Guaranteed smiles 100%. It doesn't have cinderella though. Or sleeping Beauty. Or lady and the tramp, aristocats, oliver, prob a few more. Still gets 5 stars

A fun book for your Disney/Pixar obsessed children. A short synopsis of each of the selected movies (animation from Snow White through Coco) helps refresh the memory of the reader as to the plot and characters of the movies as well as piquing renewed interest.
This could have been so much more! Disappointed by the lack of detail to the locations chosen; although the Pixar lands were clearly so well imagined and well executed within these pages.
The illustrations were 5 stars, but the info included for each movie was off for me. I would have loved to know more about the real locations that inspired the movies. It was still a cute book.
