Or at least that’s what it feels like when my twin sister and I are pitted against a dozen ruthless Fae females in a competition to marry the Spring Court prince. On live television.
If we can survive eight weeks on Royally Hitched, we’ll earn our freedom and a one-way ticket home to the human world.
All we have to do is play nice with the mean girls and stuck up ice prince. Oh, did I mention we shouldn’t even be here since we’re not actually Fae? Well, no one knows that—yet.
As girls are eliminated and the competition heats up, things take a lethal turn. Someone wants the prince dead, and we all become targets. When he’s almost killed, unexpected feelings come over me. Panic. Pain. Sadness. The idea of losing him actually hurts.
And what’s worse… my sister feels the same way.
Author's This series takes place in the world of Azar, along with (in reading order) Hitched and Darkblood Academy. While it's not necessary to read either of these series first, there may be some spoilers, so be warned :)
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.
What did I just read....? *bangs book against wall screaming, whyyyyyy*
Honestly, I didn't have high expectations. :P But it was about Fae and I got it for free (apparently I'm into Fae worlds now....?). So. It was junk. It was cliche. AND THE CHARACTERS.....BLEH. BLEH. BLEH. OKAY?
This is Royally Hitched in a nut shell.... A Winter Court Prince who doesn't want to get married but has been forced into this live-streamed "romantic game". He has to choose from twelve girls. Twin sisters half human / half fae show up to spy on the Fae court, but they don't want to be there. The Prince is interested in these two girls because they aren't interested in him. The girls fall for him because OH MY WORD he's just so hot and charming.
*dryly* Basically what we have here is a horrible replay of The Selection. -_- Except. EXCEPT IT'S A LOVE TRIANGLE GENDER SWAP. *dies because the drama*
Prince Drake ~ Floppy, cliche, dry main character. Apparently his abs are stacked tighter than a Hershey's bar and his butt is sculpted perfectly. *rolls eyes while gagging* BASICALLY HE'S A SQUASHED TOMATO. Also, did I neglect to mention he's SO POWERFUL?! 0.0 UGH.
Adorbella ~ (Isn't that how you spell her name...?? *doesn't care anyway*) Oh, here we have our perfect Angel who can never do wrong. She's so courageous and sweet....apparently she also gorgeous, sexy, and powerful. I'm gonna call her WET LETTUCE.
Tempest ~ Our bad*ss MC who's naughty and doesn't give a care. She says all the crude stuff and drinks like you've never seen. I hear she's super sexy in a bikini. :P Besides being one of the most powerful witches in the Fae kingdoms, she's also cliche and annoying. EMPTY POTATO SACK.
SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THE SQUASHED TOMATO IS IN LOVE WITH BOTH WET LETTUCE AND EMPTY POTATO SACK WHO ARE COMPLETELY OPPOSITE PERSONALITIES!!!!
He's contradicting his own personality by falling in love with them. OH MY LANTA. *groans*
Content ~ Well the 60% I read was seductive, violent, and crude. NOT a children's story. Definitely YA. PG-13. People got drunk on Fae wine (basically alcohol). There was a lot of bad language, although some of the cuss words they used were made up. B*tch, f*ck were suggested many times...D*mnt was used. The acronym for What The F*ck was used. So. :P Sexual suggestions were made often and the Prince had the option of having sex with the girls before choosing a wife....however he was very persistent in resisting this idea in the part I read.
The details and setting were the only thing amazing about this story. But I don't what to talk about what I liked. I wanna rant about the time I WASTED reading this trash.
Here's an overview of what I did through the whole process. . . . . .
*studies cover with raised brow*
*groans* What have I committed myself to...?
*reads first chapter* *smacks lips together unhappily*
*frowns*
*reads more*
*raises eyebrows BECAUSE DRAMA*
*groans* Why did DeRosa think it was a good idea to rewrite The Selection?
*four chapters later*
WHYYYYYYYYY DOES THIS BOOK EVEN EXIST?????
Stop. Just Stop.
The Selection wasn't even good the first time. Why do you think you can make it better?
*reads more*
*looks over at sister who's reading too*
THIS BOOK IS ALL DRAMA AND CLICHES!!!!
Sister: *laughs at me* Stop reading it then. *keeps reading her own book*
Me: *frowns* **thinks*
Ehhh. The author's voice is kinda interesting. . . .
*reads more chapters*
*looks up horrified*
They just compared his abs to a chocolate bar. O.O
Sister: *raises eyebrows*
Me: *dies laughing* This book is awful.
*reads another chapter of it anyways*
*suddenly becomes annoyed as love triangle grows stronger*
*yawns*
*Is not impressed*
I'm done.
*DNFs*
*rubs hands together while chuckling relieved-ly*
Now all I have to do is write a review.
*grins evily to self*
This will be the best part of reading that stupid book.
There you have it. Squashed Tomato has fallen in love with Potato Sack and Wet Lettuce. #problems Cuz their twins to they look identical. :P
Overall ~ Don't read this book. It's a waste of time and rather annoying.
**FTC DISCLOSURE** I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is my opinion so if anything offended you I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't take it personally. Thanks!! :)
I received a free copy for an honest review. I like Drake and I missed him a lot so that was enough to get me to try this. It’s just not my cup of tea. I love this author and what she writes but I don’t like “The Bachelorette” type of things. Plus I have my own issues but that shouldn’t stop you from reading it yourself. Who knows? You might love it. I wish I did like it. I’ll probably try again at a later date and see if I can work out my issues with it. Get a cup of tea to mediate.
I don't think there will ever be a GK Derosa book I don't like. Seriously, they're all amazing.
Drake was my favorite character from the previous series and I was SO EXCITED he got his own series. And can't go wrong with Hitched after the earlier series. Soooo, Drake is even better than I thought he'd be. He's suave and dark and oh so perfect. I have no problem seeing how Arabella and Tempest are both falling for him.
This book is written in the easy-flow style I love from this author, where nothing is a chore to read and everything moves quickly. The characters are well-developed and intriguing and all the fae stuff is oh so swoony. It's a unique twist on fae and I can't wait to see what comes next!
I quite enjoyed it except for when I came to the end and there was no conclusion to the story. That really annoys me. I have no problem with a series, but each book should come to some kind of conclusion.
Wow. Trying to win against many other Fae to be the one to win the Prince isn’t as easy as it seems. Just wanting a one way ticket home is the important part. It’s definitely worth the read.
A culmination of two amazing series! Tempest and Arabella are twins--and witches--who infiltrate the Fae kingdom to spy on the nobles for their father. Their way inside? A matchmaking reality TV show created to find Prince Drake a new wife. As usual, G.K. Derosa has hit a home run with this story. Action, mystery, sassy characters, and heart-bending romance make this first book in her new series un-put-downable! Just when you think you KNOW what's going to happen...BAM! The story twists and takes you in another direction, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Written in triple-POV, you really get to the heart of what's going on inside Tempe, Bella, and Drake, and the angst is palpable. Throw in a little Fae Court intrigue, and the surprises just keep coming. I can not wait to get my hot little hands on book two! If you haven't read the Hitched series or Darkblood Academy series before this one, that's okay, but you're totally missing out! Some of these characters transcend all three series, so get to reading!! You're gonna love it.
Note: Royally Hitched takes place four years after the events at Darkblood Academy and five years after Hitched. There are characters from both shows in this series, and there ARE spoilers for each, so continue reading at your own peril. The choice is yours.
I have been waiting for this series!
Although I adored the series Hitched and Darkblood Academy, I will say I was disappointed that neither Prince Elrian nor Prince Drake of the Winter Court received their HEAs. Both men were willing to give up their right to rule for Kimmie-Jayne and Luna, but for some reason I don’t understand, they were not chosen. I would have chosen them. And since, of course, it’s all about me, that’s my focus.
Four years ago, Prince Drake was forced by royal duty to marry the Princess of the Spring Court, a woman he didn’t love and who didn’t love him. For in all his years, he had only ever loved one girl, the half Warlock Luna whom he met at Darkhen Academy.
With his wife dead, his brother, King Elrian, is forcing Drake to star in a remake of the smash reality show Hitched - Royally Hitched, where 12 Fae women will try to win his hand. Drake has no interest as his chance at happiness ended when Luna chose someone else to love.
Twins Tempest and Arabella are just two of the ladies attempting to win the Prince’s favor, though they aren’t really interested in Drake at all. And they aren’t Fae either; they are half Witch and have to pretend to be Fae. They are being sent by their father to spy on the Fae royals for a few weeks before being allowed to return to live in the human world.
But as always in the supe realm, all is not as it seems. Assassination attempts on Drake during filming have his old Supe Slayer Squad hackles raised. Meanwhile, Tempest and Arabella are caught up in some of the deathly threats, all while trying not to be found out as fake Fae.
Coming off of the previous two series, I have to say, show me the Fae love! Finally, the Winter Court gets some attention! I love the twins, and of course Drake. Other familiar characters also make appearances, and there are plenty of flashbacks! This is a bloody competition, so it’s not for the squeamish.
Prince Drake is moving on from his life at Darkhen Academy and has found a life after his love of Luna. He married the Spring court princess Miranda, but due to her untimely death he is now looking for a new wife. He has agreed to star on Royally Hitched and choose from one of twelve fae, two whom are lesser fae which should help quill unrest in the Spring kingdom. King Seris is tricky one and there are plots and deceptions everywhere. Most of the ladies are downright evil except for twins Arabella and Tempest who have an agenda of their own. There are a few familiar faces from other series that pop in which is nice. The writing is excellent and it will keep you on the edge. I would recommend reading the Academy series first for a fuller experience, but you could read this series and still be ok. I volunteered to read this book.
Fantastic I love this. The Author has done a fantastic job at bringing the story to fruition. I would love to see this on a movie screen or netflix. This read grabbed me from start to finish, and is a major page turner. With lots of twists and turns. This is more than a 5 star read. Its an Epic read. And I definitely recommend. Shauna Joesten
I loved this one so much. I hadn't read any of the other series beforehand, but found it very easy to slip into this world. Fantastic characters, Tempe and Arabella are wonderful and Drake is such a complex character! I loved the interaction between the three of them and the whole TV reality show aspect too. Can't wait for more!
Super love this book. I have always loved Drake! There is a small cliff hanger so be prepared. This one kept me hooked from the moment I started until I finished. I enjoy reading anything that has to with the world of Azar and the characters involved. If you loved Hitched you will love this one too!
This is a quick, enjoyable read and shown from 3 different characters' POV, alternating chapters.
Take one Fae prince in need of a wife, twins out to gain information, and one reality TV show called Royally Hitched which strives to get Drake, the prince, married off. Mix well and prepare to read an entertaining adventure that takes place in the Spring Court of the Fae.
Author DeRosa has created a complex reading universe and this shows one part of it. (Prior reading of her work is suggested but not needed for enjoyment of this series.) The shifting point of view allows readers to see the unfolding events from various perspectives and the characters are well-written and solid. Dialogue is enjoyable to read and the reality TV show portions are entertaining.
Rather abrupt ending that should be concluded in the next book (I hope).
I was given a copy of this book and have chosen to review it.
This book is fantastic. I absolutely love Tempe and Bella. And I was always team Drake, so having him back in my life is a huge plus! I love the setting for the story, how all 3 MCs dislike the idea of the game, but all are there for alternative reasons. And no matter how much they fight it, they all are drawn together. I definitely have a few hopes going into book 2. I could see some sibling rivalry for sure. And I hope a few of my suspicions are correct.
Fantastic story. Great character building and plot development. Everything I've come to love and expect from G.K. DeRosa and more!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed reading this book, the interaction and chemistry between the characters is great, the storyline is entertaining and filled with action, and intrigue. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
So, I'm a little unsure with this one. Let me start by saying GK DeRosa is an instant read author for me as I love a few of her other series (Hitched, Magic Bound and of course Darkblood Academy). GK really knows how to do love triangles well (IMO) and so far with each series I have read I could predict who would end up together (and haven't been disappointed).
Overall this was a pretty good read. It follows the same sort of set up as Hitched (obviously) and we know the love triangle is going to be between Drake and the twins. There are some really cliche elements to this - mean girls, stereotypical characters etc - but I was okay with that. I haven't got much more to add without getting into spoilers. Below I'm going to specify what didn't work for me and why, as well as some possible predictions (so spoilers below).
Now, I adored Drake in Darkblood Academy. Drake and Luna were great together (team Ryder FYI), but we really got to know Drake's character especially in book 3 of Darkblood. This series takes place years later so of course the character's are going to be different and yet Drake just felt off to me. He is still the icy prince we know and love, however, I think what gets to me most is the fact that he is developing feelings for both of the sisters. Let me explain.
One twin is the sweet little angel (Arabella) and the other is the IDGAF badass (Tempest). When I first was reading Tempest I honestly believed she is going to be the one to end up with Drake. Arabella is sweet and all, and Drake mention's himself her kindness is part of what draws him to her, but I don't think this will be enough. Ultimately too (if we are following cliches and such) Tempest is more fire and Drake is ice. Fire + Ice is usually a pretty wicked, angsty combo for romance. We also get hints at fae mates playing a part (just a guess on my part but why bring it up if it won't be a thing right?). There is also some foreshadowing of Arabella liking someone else, and none of that for Tempest.
SO, with those facts in mind, what bothers me is how much Drake and Arabella are getting on. I get that this is meant to be angsty (twins competing for the same guy - duh) but it just feels like too much. The descriptions for when Arabella is with Drake makes it almost seem like they are going to mates, when in my head it should be Tempest. I get that this is one of those 'me things' which is fine, but I'm just not into the whole siblings fighting for the same guy trope. There is definately going to be some sibling rivalry and fighting coming up so I'm interested to see how DeRosa spins this.
Final thoughts: I hope in the next book it gets a little clearer who Drake is leaning towards. I'm all for that angst but I believe in his head Drake knows who he wants however he's scared of making a choice, being rejected again (i.e. Luna) and at least this way he has options. I don't like the idea of the sisters being pitted against each other, and ultimately that's what is pissing me off. He's leading them on and it just feels very un-Drake. Maybe it's just me, and I'm completely wrong about who he will end up with, but I've been right with all the other books so far. Also, there is one sure fire way to tell who he will choose - when he sleeps with one and not the other you know that's who he will pick ;)
One last petty thought - Arabella is sort of rubbing me the wrong way with the ‘I like him so you can’t’ almost vibes, where Tempest at least is trying to put distance between her and Drake (hello forbidden love type trope?). Whatever, I know there is going to be jealousy but that’s how I’m reading it and I’m not a huge fan.
Love the Winter Prince!! The twins are so entertaining and will definitely give Drake a chase. And all the upheaval in teh court not to mention the Fae *itchyness! All this and competing to win Drake’s heart without breaking your twin’s. Just Wow another amazing story!!
This new series seems just as promising as all of the author's other series. I love the world building and the intrigue. I would definitely recommend this book, this series, and all of the other series from this author if anyone were to ask
Prince Drake is now looking for a new wife after his arranged marriage his brother set up, the Princess was poisoned but they don't know who done it. His brother and his father in law the King has set up a Hitched show just for him. He still hasn't got over losing Luna and has closed off his heart. He finds not only one but two girls he's interested in and their twins. He can't explain why he's drawn to them and they're keeping more than one secret.
Frustrating & Heartless!!😡💔👎 *I DNF SO PLEASE IGNORE MY RATING & READ MY REVIEW, PLEASE!🙏💕* Royally Hitched: The Fae Prince: (The Dark Fae Series, Book 1)
I enjoyed Prince Drake's character in 'The Darken Academy' series, so I was excited he was going to be a main character in this version of 'Hitched'!!😍 I wasn't so happy to learn Garrix was interfering in things, yet again, by using his own children!!😡 Arabella & Tempest are half Witch twins, spelled to look like Fae & sent on the show, undercover, to find out any information they can for their Dad. He's dangling the promise to go home to Earth permanently, so they can finally see their Mum again!!😲😢 Neither are prepared for the ruthlessness of the Fae. Attempts are made on their lives within the first week!!😱💥
I love this Author's work & anticipated loving this series too. However after multiple attempts I finally gave up reading it at 70%!😭 I couldn't connect with Tempest, one of the twins. I didn't find her fiesty, I found her bolshy, unsympathetic & quite self centred!😡 Arabella was far & away a much easier & kinder character to like & connect with.💕 They aren't really Fae so if either or both fell for the Prince how would that work? They'd have to be his true 'fated mates' some how but with all of the drama, murder plots etc in all the Fae Court's I just didn't see that being enough?! Plus they're identical twins so - Eeww!!😱 And he hates being a Prince & they want to go home to earth!!🙈 It all just seemed too much of a stretch for me!!😲😔😢 So that's the point I finally had to pull the plug I'm afraid!!😔
I hope others connect with it better than I did because, as always, the description & writing is beautiful!😍 I'll still read other work by her in the future too because I'm pretty sure this is just a one off disconnect, for this series, for me!!🙏
Elizabeth Dragina said exactly what I was thinking. It was a great idea poorly executed. I would like to see it rewritten: * Better pacing * Action before 45% of the way in. * Competition between the sisters and make him choose. Otherwise there is no point to this novel. * There is a plot but you would never know. * Reluctant prince? Change that to prince who uses the camera to increase his ability to influence his brother and father. Seriously, stop letting yourself be puppeted by your family. Lettuce leaf.
Oh Drake… I fell in love with his character in Darkblood Academy and now that he’s the star of the show (literally) I can’t get enough of the ice prince!
I read the first Hitched series (you don’t have to read it before this one) so I knew I’d like Royally Hitched. It has a similar premise, a supernatural dating show, but there’s a twist of course. The twin sister contestants aren’t really there to win the prince’s heart… Corruption and chaos are brewing in the Fae world.
The twins are awesome. Arabella is sweet, kind, and level-headed while Tempest is sassy and sarcastic. Tempe’s my fav and her interactions with Drake make me laugh (and swoon a little!). What would a supernatural dating show be without danger around every corner? Those Fae girls are ruthless! After that ending (did NOT see that coming) I am dying for book 2 ; )
If you like the Bachelor or Bachelorette you would like this book. Big difference is that Supernatural people exist and the Royal Fae don't like anyone beneath them. The whole love triangle thing is weird. Unless the Prince is going to end up with both, the story line is annoying who it is going with the twins. Just pick on and don't string both along. Also the Fae are violent people. There is also an uprising happening. Oh and the book ends on a cliff-hanger.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Royally Hitched is a spinoff of G.K. DeRosa’s, Darkblood Academy, which is a spinoff of Hitched. Though you could read these separately, it’s much better to read them in order since there are references and connections to other characters in a shared universe, as well as backstory. Plus they’re all amazing, so there’s that too.
In Royally Hitched we catch up with Drake Wintersbee, who’s now widowed, and forced to be on a reality dating show to find a new wife. But not everything is as it seems. People aren’t who they say they are, political parties have their own agenda, and secrets and conspiracies are around every corner, but despite all this, maybe just maybe, the Ice Prince’s heart might melt a little.
I absolutely loved Royally Hitched, and after that ending…wow, let’s just say I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what happens next.
I really enjoyed the Bachelor style theme of this book and the fact that while Tempest and Arabella (twins) infiltrate the Fae kingdom to spy for their father. While being witches under glamor to look Fae they must get information that their father is wanting all while competing in the trials to become the Prince's wife. I love how they all try to figure out the mystery on why certain things are happening and can't wait to see if there will be more to this series.
Tempest and Annabel find themselves contestants on a reality tv show to meet and compete for the chance to marry a Fae prince. Their father is the president of the United States and is also not human! When an assassin attempts to kill the fae prince, all bets are off! Great characters and plot with fast paced action and twists.
Love the extension from the first two series, Hitched and Darkblood Academy. Literally couldn’t put them down and this was the same, just sad that I have to wait until April to read how this continues. Good stories
