Goodwood has been the home of English sport for centuries. The story of how a small hunting lodge became the iconic location for the globally-renowned Festival of Speed, Glorious Goodwood and Goodwood Revival events is inextricably intertwined with the tale of the Dukes of Richmond. The Dukes were, variously, patrons of the arts, political influencers, royal confidantes, architectural innovators, horticultural enthusiasts and stewards of the community. Loved this. As a motorsport fan I picked this up to learn more about the motor circuit but it took me much further back than the automobile to the building of the dynasty from which Goodwood developed. Through the centuries of marriages and alliances, the world wars and the sporting history of the estate. A fascinating insight.
