Heal from yesterday's pain and find hope for tomorrow with this inspirational guide -- and learn how God's faithfulness is working for your good, even when times are tough.
If we are truly blessed to be a blessing, then we can take the lessons we learn in hardships and turn them around to help others navigate through their seasons of struggle. Hope and healing are the two words God has given us. Hope for tomorrow and healing from yesterday. Shaun Nepstad believes God wants to use our stories to bring hope and healing to others.
When it comes to life, we've all asked, "Is there more?" We want to believe there's more to life than what we're currently experiencing. But the problem is, so much in life promises more but doesn't deliver. There's actually only One who can deliver the "more" we need, and that is Jesus. He delivers more than what we ask for or can even imagine. Consistently. Without fail. No matter what our situation looks like. Don't Quit in the Dip inspires us to keep fighting. To keep believing. And to keep helping us experience God's full blessing.
You might feel like you've been backed into a corner and it seems there is no way out. Nepstad encourages you to see from God's perspective. Don't quit, he says, God's got a way to see you through.
Nepstad uses personal stories and ones from the Bible to illustrate his teaching. He encourages you to pray, to trust Jesus is seeing your condition and knows what is happening to you. He also knows your real need. Run to Him, not away from Him. Don't settle. Believe God will give you the wisdom to get out of the dip.
My favorite chapter was “God Uses Everything.” If you've done any baking, you know the individual ingredients of a dessert may taste terrible. Combined, however, they create a food with a wonderful taste. Nepstad relates that to life. If you look at just one event in your life, it may not have been very enjoyable. But God uses all the events of our life to make a masterpiece. You might have to be sifted. You might have to stay in the oven until you're done but people will be lined up to hear what God has done in your life. (Loc. 1527/2828)
This book contains good encouragement. It contains some humor and interesting information about hamsters too. There were no questions to journal nor suggestions for group discussion included in the egalley I read.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
This book is so important. It’s your go-to guide when you feel discouraged, like giving up, throwing in the towel and forfeiting your dreams. We all have rough seasons, even excruciating seasons sometimes. This book is for those moments. It’s packed with tools and encouragement to help you reach your destiny, whatever that may be. And after you read it, you’ll want to keep it for the next time you feel less than motivated. Cause that time will come and you need to be ready.
In Don’t Quit in the Dip, Shaun Nepstad explored the topic of the dip and how we can learn not to quit and give up when we face different challenges in our lives. Often times we feel stuck, and in the dip we’re unable to believe and reach for our dreams and goals. The dips in life can be our dreams, health, career, marriage, and any other area that we feel stuck in. In the book, he explained the importance of not quitting in the dip and he reminded us about God’s thoughts and how His ways our higher. He used an illustration about chess and how God has written the Bible like a checkmate between Him and satan. He starts with satan being banned from heaven and this starts a chess game. Next, he looks at Adam and Eve and how they were influenced by satan and sinned and was kicked out of the garden and satan was able to made a countermove. Shaun goes into detail about the different moves that was played throughout the Bible and the dips they experienced and how they overcame the dips and fulfilled their calling and purpose.
Throughout the chapters, he opened up about how he became a preacher and started their own church. At first, it started with only 22 members and they were meeting in a cafetorium and how in three months, the school kicked them out. He shared how they dealt with having to move schools every year per California rules. He also shared how he dealt with severe stomach pains since the age of 13. He was diagnosed as having ulcerative colitis and how he struggled with wanting to in the dip when he was trying to grow the church and how God changed him and healed him. He explained the process of the church growing and what he learned through the dips he experienced and he guided readers into hanging in there to overcome their own dips. In the book, he explored the story of Joseph, Jesus, Peter, Jonah, the Israelites, Paul, Moses, and much more and how they experienced dips and what we can learn by looking at their stories.
I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who is ready to learn how to not quit in their dips and how to reach forward and to keep striving and running your race. I immensely liked how in depth Shaun went into at looking at the dips of people from scripture and how they didn’t quit when they easily could have went they faced challenging situations. I appreciated how open he was in sharing how he went from building the church from 22 people to thousands of members and how he faced setback along the way and it wasn’t a quick and easy journey. I liked how he looked at the stories of Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Henry Ford, The Formula 409 cleaner, and Winston Churchill and how they choose to not quit in their dips and how they were able to accomplish their dreams. If you’re looking for an inspiration book, then read this book and learn how to not quit in your dips!
"I received this book free from the publisher, Faithwords/ Worthy Publishers for my honest review.”
Pastor Shaun Nepstad shares about the ups and mostly downs of life – what he calls “the dip” – and how God makes it possible for His children to not give up and to grow in many ways when the dips in life come. In a winsome and self-effacing manner, Nepstad shares all of the trials and challenges of starting a brand-new church when he was fresh out of college. As one might imagine, there were a lot more dips than highs in the early years of his ministry, but each trial and setback was always an occasion to learn from mistakes, as well as to see the faithfulness and incredible timing of God to bring good things out of troublesome circumstances.
People without Christ face as many dips in life as Christians, but non-believers do not have the resources available to Christians, and so many give up and stay in the dip for months or years. Christians can easily succumb to the difficulties of a fearful and defeatist attitudes like the rest of the world, but with a willingness to humble themselves before God and to seek for His help, a hope can be ignited in the heart of any believer who is willing to use whatever little faith they have and then see God go to work.
The dips in life can be personal, vocational, relational, financial, medical and spiritual. This book is very clear in communicating that these dips are not perhaps all due directly to sin on the part of the believer, but the Bible never promised that life for followers of God would be easy and successful in worldly terms. But believers can be sure that God sees every event in the lives of His children, and can use even the biggest and most prolonged dips to redeem and strengthen His people. For Nepstad, the bottom line is that if a person is in God and is not yet dead, then God has not and will not give up on us, and we should not give up our hope in God. A recommended book for those looking for assurance of the goodness and faithfulness of God.
i picked this book up when i felt like giving up on my calling. i’d been working continuously for about half a year on what God had called me to do, but i didn’t see any fruit of my labour. i felt so discouraged and helpless, planting seeds daily with no sight or sign of a garden... but this book reminded me of this: what we see as The Dip is the opportunity for God to work!
funnily enough, i finally started to see the results i had longed for, to bring glory to the Lord, a few weeks before i finally finished the second half of this book. though i don’t think this book was the contributing factor to God’s blessing and establishing the work of my hands, my life did parallel what this book talks about.
it brings up stories from the Bible and the author’s personal life, all driving home one point, which is this:
you do not have to quit in The Dip.
your Dip does not have to be your final destination. if you have air in your lungs, God is not done with you yet. God will always have the final WINNING move. believe it.
other than that, one of my favourite takeaways would have to be this (even though it’s not the author’s words):
“Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” — Winston Churchill
in my Dip during the initial pursuit of my calling, i had experienced resistance from others… my previous audience and even some of my closest friends. but this book put it into words really well…
“When you are chosen by God, be prepared to be anointed but not accepted.”
i’m glad i kept on and had faith in God’s promises, even when it was hard. this book was a great reminder of that.
For many people, 2020 has been a year of challenges and hardships. Maybe you are struggling even without the unique challenges of this year. If you are, Don't Quit in the Dip by Shaun Nepstad is an encouraging read.
Nepstad shares from his experiences and the Bible about how to move forward to get out of "the dip." What is the dip, you ask? Nepstad says it is when you are in a place in life where you are feeling slumped down and ready to give up. One of my favorite motivational speakers and writers, John Maxwell, writes the forward to this inspiring book. Don't Quit in the Dip is divided in to six sections that follow the steps of being in the dip and climbing your way out.
Don't Quit in the Dip was an uplifting read and would be a source of encouragement for those who are struggling and feeling discouraged right now. I felt like Nepstad was a man who had been there with the stories he shared from his own life and the church that he pastors. I could also relate to the stories of the Bible of men who had struggled through hard things like Jonah and Joseph in the Old Testament and Peter in the New Testament. I have heard some of these things before but it always helps to have a reminder when you are down but not yet out. If you need a reminder of why you need to keep moving forward in your Christian walk and through your life challenges, I would encourage you to read Don't Quit in the Dip.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
This is a wonderful book for those that are in a rut or are struggling with something in life and not sure how to get out of it. The Christian pastor uses humor and real life struggles to help out in his topics about getting out of "The Dip," which is defined as "where you can see where you want to be, but no matter how hard you try, it seems you can't get there." The author uses references from the Bible from people like Peter, Solomon, and Jesus, along with references to working out at the gym, George from Seinfeld, and how many people carry an invisible shovel with them to dig up past events. Each chapter is different under the banner, but still had relevance to the overall theme, and several chapters in a row dealt with something I was dealing with for that actual day. This is a book that will be read many times, and not just stay on a shelf, because of the insight and humor, and positive outlook while still being realistic to Christian's struggles. Let’s start at the beginning. If anyone from my church reads this review, no I am not thinking of quitting. I received a copy of this book from the publisher as a review copy, and I am really glad I did. This book is wall to wall encouragement and is great for anyone who has ever found themselves in a “dip” a tough spot that make you want to give up. Combining personal examples with many stories from the Bible, (including many of my favorites) Nepstad makes a compelling argument for keeping on keeping on. While I am not thinking of quitting my ministry, I have to admit to having received this book right after something pretty discouraging happened in my life and I have to admit the encouragement in this book, made me realize I could not just survive but thrive. I will not quit in the dip. You shouldn’t either. If you find yourself in need of encouragement, read this book.
...for someone who is about to quit. We all have had low times in our lives when we may have asked, "What's the use?" Nepstad provides encouragement for those of us in the "dip."
My one criticism is that at times it feels as though the author is trying to be too cute or funny, when the subject matter at the moment does not call for it. That may just be his writing style, but if I am in the dip, I am not looking for a joke. I want real substance.
For sure, though, there are some brilliant flashes of insight which definitely make the book worth reading.
This book came at exactly the right time in my own life. When I started it, I hit a wall! That was about 6 mos ago. I took my time reading this, soaking in little bits at a time. Everytime I can back to it, it alone right to where I was!
Whatever you do! Don’t quit in the dip! The Gospel puzzle is not complete without you!
