The critically acclaimed manga adaptation of Sherlock hits Season Two, introducing the iconic Irene Adler! Fresh from facing down Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) are called in to assist the royal family in a very delicate matter… only to find that the Great Detective may have met his match!
I would've liked it better if it was in full color, maybe the copy I read was only black and white for reasons but I didn't so that was a ding for me. I love Sherlock, the TV show has been an easy rewatch for the last few years its been on Netflix so I thought maybe this will add a couple lines or something. Nope, it's an exact replica to the word of the show so if you've already memorized this episode you'll be kind of bored with this. Honestly? I'd skip this.
This might have worked except I read it in Hoopla and the damn thing wouldn't work. Also, this wasn't a complete story. Sometimes the pages wouldn't turn. Sometimes the pages turn without being asked. The fit on the screen cuts off the bottom of the images and sometimes dialogue is lost. Ugh!
This was exactly the sort of read that reminds me why I keep coming back to books like this. The tension and investigation elements are what carried it for me, especially when the story leans into suspicion, motive, and the uneasy feeling that someone is always hiding something. Jay. gives it enough control and personality that it feels like more than just a premise on a page. The pacing, mood, and central ideas all came together well enough that I was happy to keep turning pages. It had the right mix of substance and entertainment, which is always the sweet spot for me. Five stars because it delivered the kind of reading experience I always hope for.
