When fourth-graders Billy Hamilton and Sam Baptiste make a batch of super-secret slime for the upcoming AMERICA'S GOT SCIENCE auditions, everything goes horribly awry. Now they must find a way to stop their amateur science experiment from taking over all the adults in town and turning everyone into mindless "slimebies".
Billy's favorite part of the school day is the end of it, but to make sure he doesn't fail 4th grade he has to enter the America's Got Science audition with a partner to bring up his grade. His partner, Sam, is the opposite of Billy. She's the principal's daughter, loves school, and wants to meet her hero, Professor Quandry, who's hosting the competition. After procrastinating the project, Billy and Sam find science supplies from Billy's grandmother in the attic, including a lab book with different experiments! They decide to make the World's Best Slime with some strange ingredients like pickle juice and sunflowers. Their experiment goes well, and they box up the slime to save for the auditions. The next day, Billy can't find it where he left it in his room. His mom washed it down the drain, but that's the worst of Billy's problems. His parents start acting weird, telling him he doesn't have to go to school, making a green soup made out of spinach and honey, and acting like zombies or slimebies. Includes great examples of the scientific method. It's a fast-paced story where kids save the day by working together. For fans of zombies and gross stuff.
Read with my daughter. It’s a silly book about an elementary school science fair. The unlikely pair find his grandmothers old experiment log and make some amazing slime. Overnight, the slime disappears and the adults start acting strangely.
Evelynn and I really enjoyed this crazy ride. It had a little "Coraline" feeling at one point. Kind of a cliff hanger at the end though...we need another installment!!
