The Travel Mishaps of Caity Shaw #6

When in Doubt Don't Chicken Out

Rate this book
What’s a girl to do with her unruly dog, a rogue chicken, and a foster bunny named Stew?

Caity Shaw is settling into her new life in Dublin. She is now juggling two event planner jobs, but she hopes the family clan gathering she is organizing will launch her genealogy business. Over the past year, Caity has transformed from an insecure victim of emotional abuse into a confident woman thanks largely to Declan, her Irish boyfriend.

When Declan accepts a caretaker position at the home of her Coffey family’s archenemy, Caity and Declan’s relationship becomes strained. Even her faithful companion Mac abandons her in Dublin for life in the country. Caity goes to Killybog to try to mend their relationship, but she unexpectedly takes over the caretaker duties. Mischievous animals and a mysterious man searching for an abandoned IRA hideout are just a few of the challenges she faces. When a popular soap opera films at her uncle’s home, Caity’s sister Rachel hopes to get the English estate out of massive debt by organizing a slew of fan events while also planning a family wedding. Once again, Caity’s dream of becoming a genealogist is put on hold.

That is until she takes on a wealthy but unsavory genealogy client. As Caity tracks the family’s history, and the client disputes the nefarious findings, Caity finds herself in a real-life soap opera!

“Rachel shook her head. “Screw the bitch.”
“Take that slag down,” Fanny added.
George gave a definitive nod. “May she burn in hell.”
So much for being rational.
My life had become a bigger flippin’ soap opera than Sunnyvale!”

Ahhhh! Absolutely devastated that I’ve finished book six and need to wait until JANUARY for another Caity and Declan instalment! I loved this so much. There was a lot of family reunions in this book, probably more so than each of the others in the Caity Shaw series, and especially the IRA link was something really different that shone a massive light on this book!

This story was so much more about Caity’s personal journey with debt, abuse from her ex and her need for independence, but how in actuality, this was holding her back from her new life she was building. The messages about these things that Eliza Watson manages to get across in her writing is really incredible. In this series the link to debt has been just a small part of the journey, but it’s written about in a way that isn’t blaming the debtor, and dives below these feelings. At one point Eliza wrote about hiding debt letters in your desk, and it really hit home. Been there done that. I have felt a real connection to these books for that exact reason. It’s not written about enough in fiction, with most authors instead focusing on billionaires and our want for them, so HAIL ELIZA WATSON 🙌🏻

I happened on the Travel Mishaps of Caity Shaw series on accident. I immediately fell in love with the characters. I flew through the first 5 books. I have connected with Eliza Watson on Facebook and she is so interactive with her fans. And so very appreciative of them.

I was so excited when she had announced there was going to be a 6th book. I preordered it immediately and anxiously awaited the release date.

Once it was released I tore right through it. I love the characters, I love the story. I feel like I am a part of their lives. It isn't every day that a book and a whole series engages me that much that I cannot wait for the next one.

I am HOPEFUL this is not the end of Caity's story. But if it is - then I will forever cherish the time we had together.

Caity's growing..

As she deals with two event planning jobs and her slowly increasing genealogy business Caity needs to make some tough decisions..

Should she continue to work part-time for Breckers Irish arm when Gemma continues to undermine her and make mistakes that Caity gets the blame for?

Should she risk it all and start her new business venture without having got the qualifications first?

Most importantly should she move in with Declan? And can she understand that supporting one another isn't controlling one another and stop rejecting Declan's help?

Bit disappointed with the ending, thought it a little abrupt, and had rather hoped for another episode in the story.

I have so enjoyed this series. This final (maybe?) book in the Caity Shaw series was everything I could have wanted ending on a high note of family resolutions and love all around.

I recently had my DNA tested for ethnicity expecting mostly Scottish and English roots. Surprisingly, Irish showed up in a high percentage even narrowed down to County Cork! So this series having the theme of genealogical research really appealed to me. I wish I could hire Caity to track down some of those Irish relatives!

Finally! Caity Shaw gets her Irish family together!

Great work on part of author who manages to bring all the characters from the five preceding books together for a positive ending. Caity, the main character, is finally in charge of her future and ready to charge into a genealogy career, working alongside the love of her life. Her family knows more about how English and Irish history touched their previous generations and Are ready to share the future together. Great description of genealogy "sleuthing".

I consider all in this series to be 3.5. I loved them all and hated that I just completed this final one. I do encourage any nre readers to buy them all and settle in to a ling weekend if binging, starting with the first in the series. Not only did they provide for me the satisfaction of an Irish setting but most important they are properly edited. I was not forever cringing over spelling and grammar. They are totally entertaining light reading.

I thought I had read the entire series and was surprised to find this in the unread section on my kindle. I enjoyed this one as much as the others and I hope it’s not the last we see of Caity.

A lot of genealogy research in this one and I got a little bogged down with it all. But I loved the ending
