This book was made for middle-grade and older readers to inspire them to learn about the histories of important women that have done ground-breaking things, have sacrificed, and contributed in many ways. Through thought-provoking questions, quizzes, challenges, projects, and more, kids will be inspired to learn more about some really fascinating women and maybe be inspired to be like them.

The book takes readers through the alphabet, starting with Ava Lovelace, a British mathematician, and ending with Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi architect. The book is full of plenty of women we do know like Anne Frank, J.K. Rowling, and Venus and Serena Williams and many women we don’t know like Mary Sherman Morgan, an American Rocket Scientist, and Jessica Watson, an Australian sailor. Every few pages, I had heard of the “wonder woman” and then more that I had never heard of but were just as amazing.

Each woman’s page offers a brief biography, sometimes in paragraph form and other times with word bubbles or fact boxes. Then the next page offers a type of activity for the reader to do. For the Amna Haddad page, a weightlifter from the United Arab Emirates, the activity page offers a list of sports with columns “would like to try it”, “try it”, and “loved it”. Some of the sports listed include archery, fencing, golf, judo, sailing, swimming, tennis, and weightlifting. It encourages readers to try a new activity and maybe, just find a new passion while trying it out. Other activity pages encourage readers to write a poem, learn sign language, or complete a math theorem,

With March 1st being the first day of Women’s History Month, I encourage you to share this book with your daughters AND your sons and remember that we can do many great things just by working hard and having a dream – just like these women did!

I was very impressed with I Am a Wonder Woman. The editors brought some incredible women to the forefront of history. They incorporated their stories with activities in our aging middle school girls to use their imagination to reach beyond themselves. I'm looking forward to sharing this book with my young granddaughters.
I received this book through a goodreads giveaway and read it the day it came in. I hope they will do a similar book for boys.

My nine year-old daughter has been a little firecracker since she was old enough to express an opinion. With five brothers (four of them older), she has learned to hold her own; we call her the pink sparkly ninja pirate princess. Despite her penchant for parkour and sword fighting, I have noticed that although she enjoys those things, she doesn't always believe that she can be anything she wants to be as long as she works hard enough at it. So, when the opportunity arose to review I Am a Wonder Woman with my daughter, I was especially eager to get my hands on it.

I Am a Wonder Woman brims with mini-biographies of some of the world's most interesting and accomplished women. Each woman is given a two-page spread; the left page gives a brief introduction to the woman's life and work, while the right page contains activities for the reader to explore her relationship to the themes, challenges, and successes of that woman's life. My daughter and I read the book and worked through a number of the activities together. She loved learning about the incredible things other women (some of them teenagers!) had done, and she enjoyed the related activities even more than I suspected she would. I could easily see Girl Scout troops and women-in-STEM groups, as well as individuals, using this book to inspire girls to dream big and set goals.

I did have a few small frustrations with I Am a Wonder Woman. To begin, the biographies are in alphabetical order by first name, which felt very odd to me. It would have been more useful to me to have them organized by time period, field of accomplishment, or by last name. Second, although many women of color of numerous nationalities are included, the only one whose picture (a drawing) reflects her actual skin tone is Mae Jemison. It was oddly jarring to see other amazing black, Hispanic, and Asian women (like Michele Obama, the Williams sisters and others) drawn with the same skin tone as their white counterparts. If it was an artistic choice, why single out Jemison? Finally, though the book's use of multiple fonts adds to its upbeat feel, one in particular was difficult to read against darker backgrounds.

Regardless of those issues, I absolutely loved this book and will be recommending it to every mom and teacher of upper elementary and middle school girls I know!

Do you have a wonder woman in your family? Of course you do. There are plenty of women you know who have made sacrifices, struggled and came out on top, and who have managed to accomplish extraordinary things. In this guide readers will find some very famous women who have inspired and strengthened the female presence across the globe.

Young readers will learn about a plethora of famous women but they will also learn a lot about themselves. This is not an ordinary book filled with history, but a workbook with activities, quizzes, questions, drawing projects and so much more. While readers are learning about Jane Goodall, the famous primatologist, they can also learn a bit of sign language. While learning about Fadumo Dayib, a Somali activists, readers will be asked what five things they would take with them if they were forced to flee their country.

The diversity of these woman is astounding and there is something here everyone can learn and possibly enhance their own lives. It is always good to see non-fiction in works for young readers and to have it presented in an entertaining way that captures their attention and encourages them to pursue reading.

Girls growing up need to see that girls and women who live long ago and who are currently living have been able to pursue careers and achieve greatness. They need to see that they, too, can reach for the stars in their life.

Each short, very limited biography of these women has an activity that helps the young reader think about the achievement of the individual. This is definitely a "hands on" book; or if that is not quite what the reader wishes to do, they can simply read the short bios.

An interesting book. The illustrations are quirky or simplistic.

I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone, and freely given.

This is an exceptional book. While I understand its premise is to empower and inspire young women, I believe it important for all adults to read it. The editors did an excellent job researching the people included and creating the accompanying worksheets. I like that this a global selection and varying ages and cultures are represented. I plan on doing some additional research of my own to expand my knowledge. This is a book which I definitely plan on sharing with my granddaughters. Thank you, Bathroom Institute, for sponsoring this giveaway.

We have seen a slew of books targeted towards girls at all ages and stages. Following the success of books such as the Confidence code for girls and Rebel Girls, comes this activity book,"I am Wonder Woman". This 120+ page book is a great companion book for your young tween or teen girls.

"I am Wonder Woman" introduces over 50 women from across the globe. The authors and collaborators invites the young reader to step into the life of each of these inspiring women through different kinds of activities. Each activity is carefully chosen, closely related to the woman highlighted on the section. Each double spread page covers a mini-biography and their accomplishments during their lifetime. Activities are thought provoking and creative. Some activities are fun involving either drawing, doodling or expressing creativity in your own way. Others are more thoughtful, building empathy and engaging the reader at much depth.

A double spread on Helen Keller is an excellent example of what you will find inside the book. The left side highlights Hellen's life in brief snippets. The right hand side includes an activity that is related to the personality on the page. In this case, the first activity asks you to imagine and express your feeling if you were to hypothetically wake up in a world where you can't express yourself in words or language. I found this an interesting way to build empathy for the hearing or visually impaired people. The second activity challenges you to then think creatively on how you would try and actually communicate with someone who can't understand your spoken language.

I love that the author decided to include inspirational quotes. On J.K. Rowling's page, there is a famous quote which grabs your attention "We do not need magic to change the world..." J.K Rowling's journey is a classic example of never giving up on your dreams. The activity bar on the side asks you to imagine and express failure from J.K Rowling's point of view if you were to step into her shoes. Another activity asks you to write out your next book project.

I loved reading through this book. While some of the personalities covered are women we all know, there are quite a few other personalities that i was delighted to discover and read about. For example, there was a page on Anandibai Joshi, who went on to become the first woman doctor in India. I also appreciate the overall breadth of women and the cultural diversity included in this book. The collaborators on this book have thought about the variety of professions and breadth of talent. From every walk of life, the reader will find a woman who has accomplished so much.

I would highly recommend this book, whether you decide to read it by itself or pair it with either Confidence code for girls or a biography of women such as Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls.

I liked that the book included such a variety of women to discover (there are historical and modern day women to admire!). The women included had a wide variety of backgrounds: in the sciences and mathematics, politics, medicine, sports. There were doctors and nurses, astronauts and activists. Some of the women are very well-known; others are far less well-known, though equally inspiring.
