In a flash, an EMP blast disables North America's entire east coast.
Separated from her husband and daughter, thirty-nine-year-old psychologist Naomi Baxter finds herself trapped on the streets of Philadelphia. The brutal February cold gnaws at her skin as she strives to reunite with her family. Having a keen understanding of the human condition, Naomi knows that she must find her daughter before anarchy consumes the city.
I do not know why I like to read dystopian books but I really do. This one, by one of my favorite authors, is really good. The main character, Naomi, is an awesomely described character and the story is compelling. Great read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I dislike leaving bad reviews but I’ve given this 3 stars because the author needs to know if required some work - basic simple work that would improve the story. This needs an edit badly. I pushed through reading this because I liked the story - the plot had so much potential. Yet when author can’t even work out what character they are talking about and gives them different names - to the point one character was given a completely different name. Whoever you had edit your work needs to be fired and get yourself someone new who actually knows what they are doing. So many wrong words were used eg she instead of the. Misspelled words abounded. I hope the author takes note bad fixes this. The plot is good - I have to say that while we have no idea what would happen during a real emp I don’t think it would happen as fast as the events in this book. There are a few other things but I hate spoilers. If you can push through it is a good story especially if you are prepared for all that is wrong with it which can be easily fixed.
This story follows a small family group after an EMP attack on the east coast of the United States. Honestly, it was not one of my favorites, being filled with a lot of grammatical errors, continuity issues and misspellings or missing words. Too, the characters were not particularly likeable, even the good ones, and the attitudes displayed by the Ryan family as well as Naomi had me gnashing my teeth many times over. But the author was brave enough to try and for that deserves credit. I will not, however purchase any further stories.
"Aftermath: A Tale of Survival in a Powerless World" by J.S. Donovan. It was a good read, loved the main characters, The conflicts between them. But the book needs some serious editing done. I found myself putting in the correct words or changing the words in my mind, so it made sense. I strongly suggest you go back and have this edited so future readers don't have to figure out what they just read. Other than than.................. Good book, storyline. I can visualize this in my mind and think that's what I would do.
The story line was good and took some thought to work out the people involved. It was probably close to the way people would be put into the situation. I was extremely disappointed in the writing of the book. Many, many words were left out, wrong words used, doe instead of dough. Partial words were also used as hand instead of handle. Please edit this and I'm sure readers will enjoy it.
The basic story was good but the author insisted on the retelling of the beginning of the story over and over. I just read it , I didn't need a reminder in every other chapter. And although the main character meant well, she couldn't get past her own liberal thinking, until the very end. I found myself very frustrated with her and almost didn't finish the book. Not my favorite.
After an EMP, the city turned into chaos. Naomi and her family had no choice but to leave the city and try to reach her brother, an ex navy seal and survivalist. Though the story was great, the many editorial errors were extremely annoying. Would it really take a lot to read it and fix the errors? Is English not the authors native language?
The lights go out, the subway stops running, cars die in the streets and the city of brotherly love to the city of chaos and death. Naomi and her husband and daughter plan to leave. On the way out of the city they run into the family friends needing their. Helping others is good but inviting them to her brother’s compound turns into disaster.
This was an excellent book. Read it from start to finish without putting it down. Grabbed you right from the start. A few mistakes here in there with names of people. Cathleen was Carmella at one point. Well written. Loved it.
I gave this book four stars instead of five due to so many auto correct errors in the middle of the book. Needs a good proof reading by a real person. Good characterization and lots of action.
You don't show mercy to a bunch of thugs and keep them chained up in a basement. Thugs that raped kids and killed people for supplies they didn't even need. Very disappointed in this book.
It is like And addiction, reading these end of the world books but I enjoyed this one tremendously end it distinguished itself by being somewhat different from the genre. I highly recommend it and I hope you will enjoy
This was a fun book But I think you need to invest in a proofreader...Spelling errors and grammar errors may not bother everyone but it really breaks my concentration And makes the story a little less enjoyable
I did not like this one ax much as the previous ones but I have to give credit for a really good story. I would recommend it and the previous ones to anyone looking for post apocalypse Emp stories.
Surviving is not easy and often impossible in unthinkable times. The motivation behind the fight is either good or evil. Choosing sides sounds easy, but not so evidently. Hard to accept some choices in this book.
I really enjoyed the story, and I admire the strong, female character! it’s a winner for preppers, EMP, survival story enthusiast, and people who want to see women in a stronger role!
I read these books before. Forgot to write a review. Loved it. Normal family surviving. Just surviving. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
The everyman ,or woman rises up, yet the seasoned warfighter fails, not using his tactical skills? Come on! We expect more, especially with a character like that.
I really enjoyed this book. It pulled you in and allowed you to be o.e captivated by the characters . Good vs. Evil & as always good always wins in the end.
Book held my attention and indicated how ordinary outsole are capable of extraordinary things. Would've liked to hear closure on the nature of the emp.
I like EMP books and J. S. did not disappoint. Great characters and a great story. Each story is the story from a different main character and seems to be well thought out. I will be reading more of them.
My one issue is that there are some misspelled words throughout the books. I would have given the series 5 stars but there were a lot of spelling and sentence issues with the books. Why don’t authors and editors catch these?
I really like this book it was just a different way of getting the things done and it was exciting and mysterious at times but very interesting to read.
