What happens when you mix Lightning and Hurricanes? You get a combustible mix. Hockey Wars 4 takes the reader to the long-awaited championships. There our team learn about the value of friendship and good sportsmanship. Sam Lawrence and Ben Jackson understand the nuances of the pre-teen psyche. For the glory – and more!

Australian author Ben Jackson has two homes - Tasmania, Australia (his birth place) and Ontario, Canada where he now lives with his Canadian born wife and co-author Sam Lawrence. Ben is a tradesman by day and a writer with Sam by night. Some of their books include HOW TO SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, DIVORCE RECOVERY: GUIDE F0R PARENTS & COUPLES, LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS, BEING A MAN, their children’s book series (and for adults in need of some humor!) THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED ME HOME, THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED ME TO HOCKEY, THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED ME TO SOCCER, THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED SANTA UP THE CHIMNEY, THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED ME TO THE DENTIST, THE DAY MY FART FOLLOWED ME TO THE ZOO, IT’S NOT EASY BEING A LITTLE FART. Stepping away from that pure humor set, Ben and Sam offer a bit of a twist toward reality with HOCKEY WARS, HOCKEY WARS 2: THE NEW GIRL, HOCKEY WARS 3: THE TOURNAMEN and now HOCKEU WARS 4: CHAMPIONSHIPS – with fine illustrations by Danko Herrera.

Sam and Ben take us back to the small town of Dakota and write the following: “It had been three weeks since the boys and girls of the Dakota Lightning and Hurricanes hockey teams took the win in their first away tournament, and both teams were still celebrating. The only problem was that one of the boys’ senior players, Linkin, had broken his arm, and the rest of the boys’ team was nervously awaiting the news from his doctor about whether or not he’d be able to play again for the rest of the season. The boys were out on the field playing their own version of soccer. Snow soccer. It had the same rules as regular soccer, except you played it in the snow and got a whole lot wetter, dirtier, and colder than regular soccer…’

The game goes on – ‘It’s the end of the regular hockey season, and that means only one thing, it’s championship time! The girls and boys of the Dakota Hurricanes and Lightning have been working hard all season to qualify for championships, and now the big weekend has finally arrived. Will Cameron and the boys steal the show and take the championship trophy? Or will it be the girls that steal their thunder? There’s a weekend of hockey, and everyone is putting it all on the line until the final buzzer sounds. These two teams battle it out against the best teams in their state for the glory of winning the championship trophy!

There’s the drama and the resolution is left to those fortunate enough to come across this book! The rivalry produces some fine sportsmanship lessons and the series is directed toward the ages 8 - 14. Aside from the entertainment and laughs the book presents, there are lessons about friendship and the shared love and pleasures of being close. Another winner from Ben and Sam! Highly recommended.

It’s Championship Time!

More often than not children relate themselves with the characters of a good story. In such circumstances, reading fiction can help them to get inspiration from the characters. These stories often portray real life implications through anecdotes, and as such makes it easier for them to understand the complex aspects of life. Moreover, reading these stories at regular intervals can actually help them to develop a positive outlook towards life, which eventually proves beneficial for good character development.

Hockey Wars 4: Championships is Book 4 of 4 in Hockey Wars series. Authors Sam Lawrence and Ben Jackson deliver again with this early reader chapter book that both boys and girls will enjoy.

The book description gives a sneak preview: ‘It’s the end of the regular hockey season, and that means only one thing, it’s championship time! Will Cameron and the boys steal the show and take the championship trophy? Or will it be the girls that steal their thunder? There’s a weekend of hockey, and everyone is putting it all on the line until the final buzzer sounds.

If you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! I’ve been following these authors for some time now and their work just gets better and better. My grand kids love it, and so do I!

Authors Sam Lawrence and Ben Jackson write in a wonderful, simple and imaginative style that will guarantee the attention of young minds. If you ever wanted to bond even more with your children or grandchildren, this would be a lovely story to share with them. Special mention also to Danko Herrera for the wonderful illustrations.

It seems to me that this book was created with a lot of love and joy and it’s clear that the authors really enjoy creating such wonderful stories. Thank you for sharing with us the gift that you have obviously worked so hard to refine. We’ll be looking forward to seeing what’s coming next. A well-deserved five stars from us!
