This is a review of the audiobook narrated by Sarah Mollo-Christensen.

The narrator did a good job of narrating the book. Her tone was educational, the pace was good, and very much fitting to the book. I was contemplating between 3 stars or 4 stars for the audiobook and decided to give it 4 stars because of the narrator's performance. The book was just three stars for me.

Good thing was that the author was writing in a "list" form on how we should be that unicorn. I think I might have finished sooner if I read it but the narrator did such an amazing job, I just couldn't continue without her. A lot of the things mentioned in the book are positive and I do feel positive about myself at the end of the book. However, it was getting quite repetitive and it felt as if I had someone nagging at me at more than one point of the book. There was nothing new or inspirational or intriguing that blew my mind. But then, it was still awesome to listen as it kind of boost my confidence and reminding me how we should always be ourselves and look at ourselves in a positive manner.

I would recommend this for audiobook listeners who are looking for something to boost themselves up.

LOVED this!! A great, quick pick me up book about being authentic and happy. The format really worked for me (10 chapters, 10 bullet points in each chapter with short, concise points). It’s a short, great read.

I first came across BE THAT UNICORN when I interviewed author Jenny Block for Book Party Chat, an event designed to raise awareness for recent releases whose launches had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Talking to Jenny was a delight, and her enthusiasm for the subject this book is on made me go out and order a copy right away.

I don't really read a lot of self-help books, but BE THAT UNICORN is one I'll definitely be returning to, dipping in and out of it when needed. It's a pocket-sized book that can easily fit in a bag, and it's all about teaching the reader to be happy and accepting of who they are. As the book says, "being That Unicorn isn't about being perfect. It isn't about glossing over the hard stuff or the sad stuff. It's about being true to yourself".

I particularly liked how this book acknowledges that life does throw bad things at us. Being "the unicorn" doesn't mean we're permanently happy and unaffected by bad events. Jenny Block shows us how we can "be amazing" even though "things are going to get messed up now and again". She concentrates on the importance of getting back up and not wallowing, and really focusing on strength.

Authenticity is such a big thing in this book. Jenny Block really shows us how important it is to be authentic and how authenticity is linked to self-esteem. Other topics included in this book include the concept of "the one" and dating, trust, work, and caring for others--and how all these things can be done while still being that unicorn, being the best and most authentic versions of ourselves.

There really are so many gems of wisdom in this book, and the whole thing is written in an easy-to-engage manner. It feels neither preachy nor instructional, but rather like a friend speaking to us.

Jenny Block gives practical and EASY advice to follow in a magical way. She takes readers on a journey and in the end, the last part ties it all together to reveal the most empowering wisdom of all. DON'T skip ahead, you won't be able to spot it if you don't take the whole journey. You need all the rest of the book for the last piece to resonate the way it's meant to. Though I think there is something for everyone in this book, I really wish I had it when I was just coming into the adulthood. The book is FILLED with so many amazing seeds of wisdom for thriving. The book even covers school stuff, relationships, and work life. I know I will be getting it as a gift for some of graduating high school and college students in my life! Enjoy the journey, it's a magical one.

“Sometimes being a unicorn is lonely. After all, we’re pretty unique creatures. We’re smart and sassy and fun and, well, weird! The trick to BTU is embracing our weirdness (it’s our magic after all) and finding our band of other spectacular unicorns. Jenny Block teaches us all how to embrace our inner unicorn, let our magic shine, and find our herd. And remember, the best brown horse can win the Kentucky Derby, but he’ll never be a unicorn!”

This is truly written for a female audience. While I did find some great insights and a few nuggets about the importance of showing up, it just wasn't speaking to me. Also, I think that Jenny Block is an excellent writer but the messages were not aligned to what I needed right now. However, I think that young women may be better suited to the messages.

Be That Unicorn is a pep talk in a book to be yourself and also to allow others in your life to be themselves as well. [You can't be the only weird or quirky one in the world.] Being a unicorn, also means that you should accept who you are, and if you don't like it, change.

I received a complimentary copy.

A great way to pick yourself up out of a negative mind space. The shorter sections are easy to consume.

This book isn't for me. The repetition of that unicorn drove me nuts.

My last read of 2022 and one that sets principles of how I want my 2023 to turn out. I'd give it 5 stars but some of the advice is redundant.

Cute. Positive. But the target audience is middle class Americans. I wish my problems were organizing trip to Disneyland...

Nothing original here. Might be good for someone starting their self discovery and self respect journey but for me it was trite and boring. Returned without finishing.

A quick read about being authentic. It was filled with helpful tips to live your best life. Nothing new or groundbreaking, but it was uplifting and left me with a smile.

I discovered this book as a free audiobook (in album format) on Spotify. The narrator is relaxing to listen to and tone is welcoming; pacing is easy to follow with and makes the context fun to listen to. I enjoyed the variety of topics discussed throughout the book and found myself relating on so many levels, both personal and professional. I could easily see that I was indeed a "Unicorn" and learned new approaches to the more challenging aspects of my life. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a quick read/listen pick-me-up, assurance they are on the right path for their desires (and that it's okay to go against what other's want you to be), and/or needing some guidance on what to do next in their life after getting lost.

I think the author was stalking me and just wrote a book about me, but in all seriousness, I loved this book. It is a great little pick-me-up.
