Melissa

After the shock is over, it is time to get on with her new responsibilities which comes with changes... including moving to the city to take up a job as a waitress in a mid-level hotel. An altogether daunting idea since she’s lived on a farm all her life.
Tom
Having grown up in a family of chefs, Tom is keen to keep the tradition going. His dream is to be like his grandfather who owns a chain of fine dining restaurants across the state. Quite the charmer but with no time for anything but to make a career for himself he has all the girls longing for him but does not seem to notice.
None have managed to catch his fancy until the petite new girl known as Melissa comes to work at the hotel.
At first, it is sheer pity for the quiet girl who appears lost amidst the rest that draws him to her. With time, however, he realizes what a sweet-natured person she is and begins to fall in love with her.
Find out if the hunky sous chef manages to win the new girl.

Chiltren hotel series book 1 breaking Barriers. I saw this book on amzon and got me curious I bought the whole series. Basically it’s about Melissa and her brother lost her parents down the line they went to the city she got a job. Not everything was totally different from the country to the city she met Tom from my job he’s a chef. Let’s just say he was very protective for her. The characters were amazing the story well written the intimate was a classic I loved it I’m looking forward reading the next book 2 I recommend this 5/5
This was my first book by this author and it was not a bad short story. I would normally like a bit more detail but this certainly worked. I’d like to read a full novel to be able to see how this author develops a full plot.
The idea for the plot was great, but this story is in need of some tough love editing. There are too many places where needless information is repeated in several sentences in a row but with different wording, as well as places where the same words are used over and over again, plus things like Melissa would obviously not have to tell her 8 year old brother that ”Lorna Petterson ( a long term family friend) from next door” was here to see them. Essentially this book was mainly drudge and boring details.... Also the relationship between Melissa, Kyle, & Lorna felt sterile, even though Lorna supposedly took over the mother role and dedicated her life to them. Not once did they ever call her or act like they were even thankful for her help and love. And I admit that I mainly (ok, only) downloaded it because of the promising description that ”This is a Steamy, Sweet, Short Romance Story... No Cliffhangers! If you love short and sweet romances with insta love, hot steamy sexy scenes, and happily ever afters, you will definitely enjoy this one.” Ha! 85% of the book was over before even the 1st kiss came along, then nothing for several more pages until a shower scene that owed the majority of its steam to the hot water usage. Then it was over!
Seriously, this is the only ”steam” in the entire book:
”Surprised at her reaction, he joined her, and the two of them stood together under the shower enjoying the warm water. The scene was right out of the movies, and no inhibitions were standing between them. Not even when he reached out a hand to pull her to him was there any sign of resistance. Instead, she melted into his arms as he slowly pulled her in for a kiss. There was no hurry, and he worked his way slowly over her entire body with his lips. Warm water cascaded down their bodies as they intimately discovered each other. The feel of ecstasy had her moaning with desire for more. Sensing her need he lifted her, then carried her to one of the beds and proceeded to explore the rest of her body. There was no stopping now, and the two bodies entwined together in the grip of passion. She let out a loud moan when he kissed her twin crests, and the sound drove him out of control. Both were panting now as she gave in to allow him access to her body. The only sounds in the room were sighs and whimpers as they explored each other before reaching for the heights of ecstasy. The weekend had begun, and this was just the beginning.”
And that is the end of the story!
This is me rolling my eyes @@
I prefer to encourage authors and would have given it 3 stars despite the bad writing if not for the titillating promises in the description.
I received a free copy of Breaking Barriers, but that did not affect my review.
SHORT story! Antiquated words added with a country girl straight from the 1930's? No plot, no character development, corny, repetitive.. yes, I read it all the way to the end. It picked up just a "tad". The Heroine went away for the weekend with the sou chef Tom ( who was so dreamy; I can't remember anything but his blue eyes) then he got into the shower with her "gasp". Oh no spoilers - This book is not romantic, sexy, original or good. Take a hard pass wish I had.
This is a really sweet romance story. It is something that could be relatable to any family. Children are orphaned because their parents die in a car accident. They live on a ranch and although they have help from their neighbor, a nice older lady and some relatives, Melissa knew she needed to get a job somewhere in her field. She had finished college while trying to be mother to her brother. Her neighbor Lorna helped her obtain a place and a job at the Chiltern Hotel. Even though she was a waitress she had a chance to move from their farm get into society and a chance for her brother to go to school somewhere else and make friends. Tom was the Sous chef at the Chiltern Hotel. He was a loner, happy to be a force behind the scenes to the daily functioning of the hotel. Melissa was a new server at the establishment. She and her brother moved to town recently for a new start following the death of her parents ad the decline of their family's ranch business. Tom and Melissa met only in passing on her first day, but they left mutual impressions. Melissa never talked about her life while at work, and never socialized. Eventually, he decided he needed to get to know Melissa, because he was drawn to her. It was a good short read. I had read a book by Avery North on Booksprout as an ARC.
Melissa and her brother Kyle Jones are not able to continue living on the farm they grew up on after their parents were killed in a car accident the neighbor Lorna helped to take care of them and after college Melissa has gotten a job at the Chiltern Hotel as a waitress in the big city they have an apartment and Kyle will be starting school soon. Melissa meets Paula when she arrives for her first day she meets everyone the weeks pass and she finds herself having a problem with her supervisor she finds herself on the receiving end of his snarky complaints about work or on this day she was a little late and he went off in front of everyone and she is very upset but the Sous Chef comes through the one that is so handsome and he looks at her and speaks to her supervisor. His name is Tom and he finds himself interested and protective of this sweet young woman. After that things get better on the job and one day she was leaving work and ask if she wanted a ride she agreed hesitantly. Interesting storyline Instalove the characters were fun. Book 1 of series. I own this book. I am providing an honest review.
Melissa, who lost her parents and is guardian to her teenaged brother, moves them to the city to make enough money to live on. She runs into Tom, a sous chef, her first day of work. As the story progresses their thoughts are jumbled, a friendship develops, and they must determine if the thoughts of others will control their actions. Braking Barriers is a nice sweet romance read you can take in on your lunch break.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
A true "feel good" story. From the depths of heartbreak, to the life of true love, this short, but warm story will have your heart breaking, only to find the way to mend it back up again. Melissa has had her fair share of heartbreak, but a chance meeting to the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on, just may be the turning point, giving her broken heart all the mending it could possibly require. I loved this book. Short and sweet, a delectable love story. I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
Very disappointing. Liked the idea and storyline and at the beginning the reader gets background on Melissa and her brother. But when she and Tom finally get together, there's no mention of her being a virgin or it being her 1st time. The story just jumps then to them getting married a month later. What happened to their farm? Why were they not married there? Or make it their home for their business? What became of her brother? Did he stay with them? Too many loose ends and questions unanswered.
This is a quick read about Melissa and how her life changes once her parents die. Both Melissa and Tom are the main characters and they have a sweet relationship. I like how the author presents these two characters and lets the reader in to how each one is thinking. Both characters are relatable and have realistic dialogue. I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to more books in the series.
This one I enjoyed the most! However it felt too short especially the ending. I think the reason I liked it is because it wasn't instant love. Like he cared for her then fell in love.
SPOILERS
I mean we were just getting to see them fall in love and then bam! We have an epilogue. :( I wish we had gotten more of their story.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Wow so worth reading. Once I started I could not put the book down from start to finish you just could not get enough left you wanting more Melissa and Tom. It was hot and steamy with emotions that makes you want more. The chemistry between them was intense. Thank you for allowing me to review your book.

This is the first book in the Chiltern Hotel Series and starts the series off with a bang. Well written with strong, well-defined characters who are likable and interesting. This is Tom and Melissa's story. Her life changed when her parents died and she became the caregiver for her brother. She's only nineteen and he is eight. Steamy and emotional, this story is hard to put down once you begin. I read an arc copy and voluntarily chose to review.
After losing her parents in an accident, Melissa takes care of her little brother and to have their necessities covered, she starts to work at the Chiltern Hotel. Tom is the sous chef at the hotel and since the first time he lays eyes on Melissa, he can’t think of anything else. I liked how Tom takes care of Melissa even when they are not together yet. And I also liked how Melissa cares about her little brother without complaining. Three stars and a half.
Being a teenager is hard enough, but when life throws the worst possible thing at her, Melissa must struggle to care for her brother and herself. When they can't afford the farm that they live on five years later, Melissa decides to move to the city to get a job. She has to make sure that she doesn't lose her job and take care of her brother. She doesn't have time for dates or men, but there was somthing different about him...
She is needs to care for her brother when their parents did and she takes a job in the city. She is used to the country so feels out of place. All he wants is to be like his grandfather but all the women wanting him. He sees her and knows she feels out of place. Will a friendship form? Will it ever become more? See if it will

Tragedy hits Melissa at the age of 19. She’s now the guardian of her brother age 8. Melissa is a shy reserved girl who takes a job in the city. While there Tom, a chef, takes great interest in her from the first time he sees her. He sticks up for her at work and continues to break down her barriers. From tragedy to uncertainty to romance to happiness.
This is the 1st book in this series. This book is short and sweet. the characters are well developed and enjoyable. When Melissa loses her parents she moves her and her brother to town and meets Tom till their attraction last?

This book did not run smoothly, or develop plot or characters very well. I felt I had whiplash from the constant jumping around of the plot and direction.... it was like a jack rabbit hyped on caffeine! The tautology drove me a tad crazy! To be fair, I did get his as a complimentary copy from Bookfunnel.
Short and sweet, it will take about an hour to read. Although the mechanics and grammar of the story were impeccable, the story lacked zest or significant tension. It is a good, solid story. I liked the characters' inner dialogue with themselves. There were some cheesy descriptions, though, like "the heights of ecstasy." I rolled my eyes, Barbara Cartland.
This story is seriously lacking in character, and I don't just mean the main characters. It's written in a very sophomoric style that just runs on and on. I found it very boring and juvenile. The premise is good and I was really looking forward to the story, but it just fell flat. Maybe a lot of editing and/or a rewrite could put some life in it. As it is, DOA.
This is such a sweet romance story. When Tom and Melissa got a glimpse of each other, they are attracted to each other but they took their time to start on this romantic journey. Tom is definitely a protector and cherishes Melissa, and some of his gestures/actions will make any woman swoon.

Melissa and Kyle lost their parents five years ago. Since then, the farm has been declining. Needing an income, Melissa moves to the city to work in a hotel. There, she meets Tom, the chef. He tries to go through Melissa’s walls and wants to get to know her. The characters are sweet, and the story is short. The plot flows easily. This is an easy and relaxing story, nice to read in between.
I'm sorry, but I did not enjoy this book. It has great potential, and the story, though a bit cliche was quite interesting, but it feels as if there are so many pages missing. Where are the details, the extra that gets us readers hooked to a story? Maybe if I knew more about the characters, I could commit to them. As it is, no way...
This is a great quiet morning with coffee quick sweet read. Melissa is a character I can admire and relate to. And who wouldn't love the patience Tom exudes to break down the walls surrounding Melissa
Good read. She is thrown into a new world through no fault of her own. He is there to help and things develop. It has excitement, emotional situations and much more. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved the fact that you would of never guessed that they would of gotten together after everything that she had gone through without her parents and raising her baby brother.
This was an easy read with a great set of characters that grabbed and kept my attention with how well developed and engaging they were written. The storyline flowed smoothly from beginning to the end.
