Read It

This book surprised me. With a slow start that built the tension, I thought it was going to be an okay book. Then came the second half like a speeding car on ice. I'm so happy I stayed with it. It's not a gory haunting. There wasn't anything that made me think, this story is only for certain readers. Nor is there anything I feel I needed to warn anyone about. It's just a good old fashioned haunting.

This book about a married couple whom were down on their finances and decide to buy a lodge was a very realistic story. The author draws you in with the love shared by Max and Simon. This story is very entertaining and yet not very scary. I loved it none the less. There was still a mystery to solve and the pursuit to find a happily ever after. The characters were fleshed out dramatically which made this story very relatable. Read this book you will love it.

Take me to Silver Creek

In the beginning and the middle all seemed a little bleak in Max and Simon's life. With the help of their best friends Sienna and Christian they got a leg up and then all seemed to start collapsing around them. Their relationship and life bond seemed to be straining against their new purchase in Silver Creek. The lodge has potential but it also has an eerie pull to it. Soon after starting renovations the stress starts to pile on and nosy neighbors takes on a new meaning. Be ready to unravel all the small town mystery that comes out of Silver Creek. My favorite characters are Lily and Bubbles.

The Haunting of Silver Creek Lodge” by Alexandra Clarke is a tale of a newlywed couple ...Maxine Finch and Simon York...whose investment in a Silver Ridge, Colorado...foreclosed ski lodge ...which once they take possession of the lodge...something or someone endeavors to take possession of THEM. Tempers fly...danger abounds....and otherworldly occurrences happen...all without seemly a causation. What the...IS going on?!? And as the once loving couple find solace in others...the horrors escalate. My advice...devour these pages...WITH the lights ON....Read & see...WHY!!!
Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.

Books of Alexandria Clarke that I've read and enjoyed so far:

The Haunting of Winchester Mansion Omnibus
The Haunting of Abram Mansion
The Haunting of Riley Watson

All three of which I enjoyed, some more than the others. So I decided to go look for more of her books. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There was no dull moment, and as with her other books I was able to guess who the villain was around 40% into the book. But this did not cause me to appreciate the book less. Despite knowing who the villain was, I was still confused by all the other ghosts that she encountered and was not sure who was bad and good. And that added to the excitement. A big part of the plot is connected to and I think it was amazing how this only came out towards the end.

Here is what I am going to read today:

Hope it's as good as the other books! Will definitely leave my review once I'm done. Cheers!

Is cozy horror a genre? Because this isn't horror in the sense of being terrifed (or horrified), and while there are definitely ghosts, none of them are the malevolent sort. This book is, at its core, a warm fluffy blanket on a cold day.

One subplot I do want to mention is the conflict between Max and Simon, in which they are both very human. They are both sympathetic, they both want what is best for everyone, and they do not agree on how to get there. One of them is clearly wrong, by the end of the book, but the conflict is resolved in a generally satisfying way, and seeing their loving relationship with ups and downs was really nice.

The rest of the review might be spoilery with regard to themes and general statements about the final fates of the characters, although it will not go into specifics, so proceed at your own risk.

The characters are neatly divided into three categories - Good, Evil, and Hapless Dupes Of Evil. HEA applies in spades, with the villains receiving their just desserts and the heroes coming out on top. The central theme of the book is, essentially, that if you have good intentions and take care of the land, it will take care of you in return.

Given the general state of the world in 2023 (particularly with regard to climate change, but also with social upheaval in my home country), the idea that The Universe looks out for good people is the ultimate fantasy and honestly right now it's comforting.

The Haunting of Silver Creek Lodge - very interesting read

I believe this is my first book by author Alexandria Clarke. I am fairly confident that it will not be my last. I am a fan of creepy stories and good vs. evil plot lines. The Haunting of Silver Creek Lodge satisfied all of my expectations. The story flo ws well with no jumps in continuity. Once I started the book, I found it hard to put down. I don't know about her other books, but I was very pleased at not having to skip over profane rants or shoe-horned agendas that have become the norm in so many books. This book has been out a few years, but if you are looking for a good book to read around the fireplace or if you're snowed in at some mountain resort, keep this book handy.

A pleasant surprise

This was such a good read. As someone who enjoys when a storyline pulls me in deep, I’m glad this book popped up when it did. If you’re into adventure and a little bit of strange then this one is worth the read. Parts of it felt a little bit like an episode of supernatural or charmed which can be good if you’re into that kinda stuff, which I am. But the cover does not do this book justice it was a pleasant surprise to be drawn into the characters and their stories despite seeing the cover and thinking it would be a boring book.

Better than I thought!

At first I thought we were going the way of The Shining. It quickly changed and made me feel better about continuing. This will be a spoiler alert for you, but glad it turned out well. Was there no police investigation due to his disappearance due to the fact the police were owned by Boyce?

Good book. I was not ready for the changes and was so glad about them. I have not read any of your other books, but if this is a sample, please keep writing. Don’t give them away for free. You’re worth more.

I really like this one. The author took the worst of the normally scary ghosts and power hungry human monsters and made them real. She is on point. And this is the way I believe it is.

There will always be dark, scary, gory phantasmagorical entities to frighten and bewilder. But I truly enjoyed the different, positive take on what happens to us after we leave this body and this life behind.

I found this to be a very uplifting ghost story. And I do have a love for all things positive and uplifting. Especially with an HEA ending 🥰

Good Ghosts

I thought the use of the ghosts as benevolent with some depth of their circumstances was rather refreshing. Not scary as much as leaving you to want to know more about them. Loved the Bubbles character. A little more about fighting her abuse would have been an enlightening and meaningful message. One critical point: quite a few typos the kind a spell check doesn't find. For example at one point he meant to say "storm" but the word "store" was used. Good story.

Couldn't put it down

Max and Simon decide to buy a fixer upper lodge in the middle of the woods. It makes the towns self proclaimed mayor mad. He wants Simon to let him invest in the lodge. Max feels an energy and starts seeing dead people that are stuck in the lodge. Can they figure out the lodges secret before another person needs to be sacrificed? Loved this book. Will find others from this author.

This is a solid and quick horror read. I liked the mix of hauntings/ghosts with real life evil, as well as the small town atmosphere.
The setting was naturally creepy and the main characters were likable. I thought their relationship was well written too. I don't read much ghost-based horror but this was a good story that kept me interested.
The ending felt a bit twee but overall I enjoyed the book.

In The Haunting of Silver Creek Lodge, newlyweds Simon and Max buy an old, abandoned lodge, intending to fix it up and reopen. Soon after moving in, the property seems to take hold of the couple, causing strife in their marriage. Max begins seeing strange things, and the mystery of why and how begins. This ghost story isn't terrifying; it's more about finding oneself and helping others do the same.

Great book!

I loved this book. The story starts off with a couple buying an old lodge in a quaint town. They wanted to fix it up and back to its former glory. The story surprises you with twists and turns when you least expect them.
The characters are great, with a few evil jerks thrown in, but every good story has them. They give the heroes and heroines a purpose. Lol. Read the book. You won’t be sorry.

Not your typical ghost story, in a good way

I have been looking for decent stories in the horror or haunting genre but until now I hadn't found anything I liked. I'm not into slashers, vampires, or anything overtly evil or violent. This book checked all the right boxes for me. No gratuitous sex, violence, or language. Very refreshing. I'll keep following the author and watching for more like this.

This was a good, quick read. It could definitely use better editing. No huge plot holes were present, but there were blatant discrepancies. For example, early on in the book the main characters are offered free muffins for life if they buy the lodge. A couple of chapters later, free muffins became free coffee. There were also grammatical errors throughout, including wrong words, that made the reading rather difficult at times.

The story is captivating to say the least and you're drawn in to the story line from start to finish. Strong characters that are well developed as well help with keeping you turning the pages til you finish the book. Highly recommend.

When Max and Simon, a newlywed couple, buy a foreclosed inn they didn't know what they were getting themselves into. This is one of those stories that once I started reading it I couldn't put it down until the last page. This author writes great haunting stories with believable characters. Amazing

It took a minute for me to get involved. I instantly loved the characters and wanted to read more, but the middle had me skipping pages. As it turned out I was just anxious. Once I was able to read the remainder I was hooked. Page for page I kept myself involved. The only thing missing was what happened to the spirits?

A good ghost story

I enjoyed book and the story line. it was a quick read. I read it on a Sunday afternoon. It's not a horror story so if that's what you're looking for this is definitely not for you. It got a little too descriptive sometimes but other than that, I enjoyed the suspense and a few plot twists.

Ghostly Fantastic

This book does not have the usual vengeful ghosts we read about in most stories. These ghosts are fun. Alive...literally. The characters pop. The story is extremely interesting and moves at a fast pace. Don't miss out on a great book. Five stars, Alexandria Clarke!

What a fun supernatural story. I have never read anything by this author and was pleasantly surprised. The character were well developed and the mystery unraveled slowly, with more and more pieces falling into place. It was a hard book to put down, it flowed quickly and was finished before I realized it. There was never a dull moment nor did the book drag anywhere. What a great find.

Loved it. A couple that both had a troubled childhood survives through the love they have for each other. When they invest in a ski lodge in beautiful Colorado they run into more problems than they bargained for. Diverse characters, ghosts, magical energy. What I like most is the ability to bring out the positive over the negative.

Unexpectedly great!

This story was unexpected in several ways, not just a base for the story and maybe a background on the main character but this story gave backgrounds of several characters and that was woven so intricately together that each chapter was enjoyable and suspenseful. I wish there would be a part 2.
