This series is pretty heartwarming with the mangaka coming to terms with his insecurities. The idea of a book signing would give me anxiety too, so I thought Naruhiko's fears were relatable. It's so satisfyingly to see how everything turns out.

If the little girl character didn't exist (I get that kids can be annoying, but she could simmer down a bit), this manga would be that much better.

Tema-tema slice of life seperti ini sungguh saya sukai. Di beberapa halamannya relatable bahkan sampai menitikkan air mata. Hal paling menonjol dari volume ini adalah bagaimana pengembangan karakter yang disuntikkan kepada sang tokoh utama. Tidak terburu-buru, tapi menohok.

Was a little bummed that Toshi-bou didn't go to the Tokyo book signing with Tohno - and that we only got a very vague hint at his motivations for becoming this mangaka recluse's assistant to begin with, particularly since he's on the cover art - but it was the right narrative choice to send Tohno alone.

It made for a lot of funny and relatable scenes about a country guy getting lost in and overwhelmed by a big city, but also gradually finding his footing and new people to interact and get along with. He's a hermit on his island but actually a pretty social guy who had good friends and a solid amount of self-confidence in his school days, so it'd be nice to see him blossoming more.

I liked Toshi-bou's firm belief in Tohno - and the letter he was too embarrassed to say out loud! - and how supportive Tohno's editor turned out to be. Honestly, the fact that this series is complete in 3 volumes was starting to make me kind of sad, because Barakamon was 19 volumes, and it seems like there's a ton of story opportunity left here, so did it get...cancelled? Seems particularly awful if so, for a storyline that's about a mangaka who's gone through so many failed series that he doesn't really believe his current one is a big success, or that his publishers will keep him around for long.

Still kind of wish that we were getting more of the story-within-a-story. I'm honestly the least interested in Hii-niichan - and we didn't even find out what happened with the teacher's visit??? - but it was funny and very true-to-life to see a side character exploding in popularity, much to the creator's dismay.

If that had been a bigger part of the series - a chapter at the start of each volume continuing the boys' story - then showing the Tohno & Toshi-bou parts - it feels like this could've been a pretty long and satisfying series. But we'll see how it wraps up in the final volume. I still want to learn more about Toshi-bou and about Tohno's old classmates.

The story begins as a cute, slice-of-life story about 4 teenage boys on a rural island in Japan living their lives and reminiscing about their kindergarten teacher that they all had a crush on. It's sweet, but then you realize that this is the story within the story. This is the story about the manga artist who writes Wakkamon, Japanese for youngsters.

It's cute how Naruhiko Tohno and his assistant, Toshibou, navigate island life, collect research material, deal with fans, nosy neighbors, and even a cat. It's very chill, but fun.

As a mature manga reader, the text was a little larger in most cases, so I didn't have to read with high-powered lights on it all the time.

I like to see the character development! I also really enjoy seeing where the different real life people influenced the main lead's cast of fictional characters. Like, Hii-chan is most obvious: a manifestation of his old classmate Tadachin - easily talented and wins a lot while still being a down to earth young man. Ryon is his assistant. Rowdy and full of life, while fully dragging him along to learn and experience new things.

Surprise manga of the year!

I really, really love Yoshi no Zuikara volume 2. There was a book signing, and I feel that our mangaka has grown in this story. I'm already a fan of the art, but now there's these little end pages of just HANDS? Simply gorgeous. I'm so glad this is also getting physical, because I think I need to upgrade my ebook copy.

Also, Toshi-bu is simply a hilarious friend.

I literally love this series. It’s so fun and cute and wholesome. Tohno is adorable, like literally so cute and Toshi-bou is just so funny.
I didn’t know this was a Barakamon inspired manga but I love it cuz that’s literally one of my favorite anime’s.
Anyways I’m definitely going to read the next volume when I get it. It’s so wholesome it warms my heart.

I'm really enjoying this series. Since I don't have a copy of volume 3 yet, I was going to take my time with this one but I was so engrossed in the story that I ended up finishing a lot sooner than I intended. I can't wait to get my hands on volume 3!

I just love this manga so much. It really encapsulates a sense of small town community that is so important to me. I love the characters and how they don’t fall into typical manga tropes but seem like genuine people. Seriously the best cozy manga ever.

Naruhiko travels to Tokyo for a book signing for his new series. Major hurdles being his terrible sense of direction and anxiety. I liked that the book signing event didn't do the standard otaku stereotypes/caricatures. They were just regular people that liked the book.

I LOVE this manga. All of the characters and their relationships with each other are amazing, and I loved being able to read more of Wakkamon. I'm eagerly looking forward to reading the 3rd volume in the series, as well as hoping there will be a 4th edition!

This is probably the best thing I'll read all year. This series is so beautiful. If you are seeing this update, I ask that you read this short manga. Please.
