Welcome to Chipping Cheddar, where supernaturals are hidden in plain sight.
This box set contains the first 3 books in the Federal Bureau of Magic cozy mystery series, including:
GREAT BALLS OF FURY Annoying but loving family? Check. Picturesque small town with a hot police chief? Check. A rescue hellhound, a black cat with attitude, and a pet python that thinks he’s a puppy? Triple check.
My story has all the hallmarks of a sweet and cozy supernatural tale, but there’s a twist - I am evil.
Well, I’m supposed to be evil thanks to both nature and nurture, but I fight it with every fiber of my being. I just want to live a normal life. I even joined the FBI instead of the Federal Bureau of Magic, until my powers reared their ugly head and the agency sent me packing back to my hometown to fight magical crimes instead.
Now I’m back in Chipping Cheddar, living with my evil family, with a new job and all my old baggage. Oh, and there’s a dead body, which was definitely not an accident. So there you have it. Welcome to my world.
FURY GODMOTHER Be careful what you wish for... I've only been back home a few weeks and already strange events are happening all over town. Wishes are coming true to the delight of those affected. Despite the seemingly good fortune, I need to put on my Federal Bureau of Magic badge and get to work. I can't let supernatural shenanigans disrupt the natural order of life here, no matter how awesome they seem.
When their good luck starts to take a dark turn, I have to kick my efforts into overdrive. Can I crack the case before these dreams-come-true turn into nightmares?
NO GUTS, NO FURY I'm less than thrilled when the Federal Bureau of Magic sends a training instructor to make sure my skills are up to snuff. Agent Quinn Redmond is an uptight fae with a rigid approach to rules and regulations that even a do-gooder like me finds stifling. When an eerie fog settles over the town, residents begin acting out in response, resulting in overtime hours for Chief Fox and local law enforcement. Things take a deadly turn when one of the residents ends up dead and I worry his death is only the beginning.
Will I manage to shine a light on the situation or is the whole town destined to remain in a fog?
Annabel Chase is the author of urban fantasy and cozy mystery novels. She would love to live in a magical town where she can shop at Ready-to-Were for the the perfect outfit, flirt with hot angels and vampires, and cook gourmet meals without exerting any effort. Visit her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Annabel-Chas... or on her website at www.annabelchase.com.
Meh, you really don't see her fighting her "evil" side. Her internal monolog is no different from most of us? So her fear of being overwhelmed by her nature seems extremely unfounded and seems whining after 3 books. May return if I get bored, but for now moving on.
We have a powerful, but conflicted heroine. We have supernatural mysteries--not so much who done it, but what done it. The stakes aren't too high. While there is a body count, it isn't among the main characters, except that one time, and she got better. There is a romantic interest, but if they're ever going to get together, it's the slowest of slow burns.
If you want a fun fantasy story that doesn't get too dark or end up in the bedroom every three chapters, you might like this one.
An enjoyable humorous cozy mystery with a reluctant Fury
Loved this set of 3 books in 1. Read the first book ages ago and it was still enjoyable on a re-read with 2 more books in addition. FBI agent Eden Fury temporarily and with reluctance siphons powers of other supernaturals and after an oopsie on a job is sent back to her home town of Chipping Cheddar to work for FBM=the Federal Buraeu of Magic. Spats with her dark side of family ar entertaining as is the veeeery slow burn romance with the new Chief of Police - I know the predicament, yet I’m still hopeful. Case after case of supernatural occurrences in a small town riddled with supernaturals - what fun. This is like Wednesday but with more burhhahaaa humour and for adults. The dialogues are witty, the pace is great, the characters are lovable, even Grandma, especially Grandma and Den’s dilemmas tug at your heartstrings - what’s not to like?
Recommended for lovers of cosy witchy murder mysteries, actioney special supernatural agent fiction with dry humour and snappy dialogue, slow burn romance with naughty references - all rolled into one.
I had high hopes for this, and I did like Agent Fury, her loveable Hellhound, Princess Buttercup, and the smexy Chief Fox. However, her family is a dysfunctional mess! Her mother and Grandmother are constantly ragging on her - and not in a loving joking way and I just wanted her to fury out and banish them to the underworld. Agent Fury is a dedicated agent, but thanks to her family she does suffer from a lack of confidence. That, plus her struggles against giving in to the darker ways her family follow are the plots that I enjoyed the most.
Then there are the three murder mysteries. They were fine. Individual enough that I wasn’t reading the same plot over. Nothing overly taxing mind you, but they still had me guessing. Yet even though I sped through them I’m not sure if I’ll continue on.
A really great read! Eden is a wonderful character: she feels doomed to be evil because of her family, but is fighting it with everything she has. She doesn’t want to be a fury, as she sees them as an evil entity. Unfortunately, she needs her fury powers to keep her town safe, and whenever she uses one, she seems to gain more powers.
I would like to see the relationship with the Chief move faster, and I’m definitely curious to see how the author handles it. A fury with a human….
The series is fun, funny, emotional. It has its moments of angst, and then something funny happens. It’s a wonderful example of a paranormal cozy. Can’t wait to continue the series.
Aww, poor Eden. Totally beats herself up for something she can't change. An FBI agent, a supernatural in hiding who makes a mistake that leads her back to her home town. Now an agent for the magical branch of law enforcement, she'll not only need to solve demonic issues, but also coexist with her dysfunctional family. Eden has spent her entire life fighting against being a Fury. Her new job may require she embrace that side of herself, if she wants to protect her town. Too many deaths otherwise.
I love this series. It’s quirky, funny, and keeps you wanting more. Every book you understand this wacky family and the heroine’s need to be normal more and more, but you look forward to the family interactions.
I really enjoyed the first three books in this series. Eden is an interesting character and her family is hysterical. I'm looking for to reading more books in this series.
Enjoyed the stories and characters in each book. The only complaint I have is the romance between Eden and the Chief is way tooo slow. I'm starting on the next book in the series and hoping the relationship will pick up.
At times this series felt like a 3 star set but I went with four stars because it has good flow and fun characters. I’m frustrated with the main character and her dynamics with her family. She seems overly righteous which can get tedious. I like the mysteries and funny characters overall.
Thank goodness for non problematic authors who wrote quality fiction! A great, fun series, heavy on the family and light on the romance, just the way I like it.
What a wonderful series! So looking forward to it continuing on as the other series have as well. Want to see where the play between characters progresses to.
