Okay, so I really loved this book, the author is really with you. I've not read anything like this before, and having had NO kids of my own and not even expecting at the moment, I wanted to get some background on what it would be like from a mother's perspective, prep mainly before I decided to go for it with no actual pressure from myself.
Really interestingly, the author had a lot of experience and having read this book and I REALLY enjoyed the activities that were in each section of the book, this is definitely one I would be looking to buy if/ when I concieve. The author knew her stuff, she had a lot of information to share and I really liked that, I felt comforted by her style of writing and how she talked with the reader rather than AT like so many books do for self help or educatory works.
She talks about so much that I wasn't aware of and celebrates new Mothers and I loved that so completely. I love that she discusses breast feeding which is the norm nowadays but also didn't make it feel like it was the only way, and also shared tips such as letting the baby suck your nipple, to encourage its appetite and take the first bit of breast milk which is supposed to be the best. This interested me and I wanted to know more and learn more and this book definitely gives it to you.
I'm so impressed, I'm going to find her other works on Hypnobirthing.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and of course, Hollie de Cruz, I am so glad I got to read this free copy in return for my honest review!
I love the focus this book has on self-care for the mother in the first few months after the birth of a child. That is an area that is often overlooked but should be covered much more frequently, particularly in books aimed toward new mothers. Although there are practical tips and advice included, the crux of the text is aimed towards finding peace through affirmations, asking for help, and trusting your own maternal instincts. This is a great book for first time mothers or those who are returning to the land of babyhood after a hiatus. It reminds us of the pragmatic things to consider but also emphasizes what's truly important and will make a lasting difference in these early days with a newborn. The activities she includes throughout the book are great tools for inspiring inner peace, affirmations, and rediscovering your passions.
I really wish I had read or listened to this book before giving birth to my baby. The author (gently) provides practical advice and useful exercises to help new mums navigate the challenges and obstacles throughout the first 6 months of their baby’s life. I often find the world to be riddled with (overwhelming and competing) advice around how to care for a new baby, but have often found it (extremely) lacking in advice for caring for yourself within this new role. De Cruz doesn’t minimize the feelings and needs of new mums, but instead stresses the importance of maintaining and nurturing oneself while also working toward a harmonic relationship between mum and baby. And what’s more, she illustrates *how* to do this effectively with pragmatic activities and exercises that can be repeated as much or as little as needed. I’d highly recommend this book to any expecting parent.
Absolutely brilliant book for anyone going through the first year of motherhood. With little activities and ideas to try to focus on your own Wellbeing and a very open look at how each stage feels. I found it a wonderful book to have beside me during the early days and at transition times in particular. I am still using some of the ideas 10 months on and loved the writers warmth and reassurance.
Absolutely loved this booked. It has been a true little companion of support, inspiration and encouragement in the first 6 months of becoming a new Mum. Highly recommend this book to any first time Mums, especially. I didn't want it to end really, Hollie can write another book please? Thank you.
Short and sweet introduction to becoming a mum. I read it as a mum to a 6-month old, but it would be more useful a bit earlier. Still a pleasant read though.
Second book I've read by Hollie and really enjoyed it. She has such a warm way of writing and I'm thankful I read this before baby got here - covering pain post pregnancy, breastfeeding, and all.
